With both Peyton and Marco advancing in their careers, they look forward to a future that has never seemed more secure. However, huge decisions face the couple as they begin the next, exciting chapter of their lives. As Marco settles into his role as captain and Peyton navigates the complicated process of becoming the lead in the Hate Crimes Division, Peyton’s first case as an FBI agent suddenly dominates her world once more. Lance Corporal Daws died of a drug overdose in a sleazy Las Vegas hotel room with a mysterious coin and two napkins with random numbers written on them. Although the case was pulled back to the Las Vegas field office, Peyton has been getting cryptic messages from Enigma, a man who speaks in riddles. With the help of her team, Peyton has never been as close as she is now to cracking the case... ...and she’s never been in so much danger.

Book 11 of the Peyton Brooks series will find her ending one career and beginning two more. San Francisco has never been safer then with the husband and wife team of D’Anglo and Brooks. Add all of their cohorts and friends and someone is always solving crime. This one solves a cold case and ends with a surprise.
What a fantastic ending to this mystery! It was fun to get together with the gang again. I'm glad to hear the series will continue on for a while longer. I can't wait for the next book.
I cannot even begin to say what an incredible journey the recording of M.L. Hamilton's Pirates in Las Vegas turned out to be. If you have checked in on any of our Hamilton & Hazen: Behind the Mic YouTube series, you know that PIRATES IN LAS VEGAS was scheduled to be the final adventure for Peyton Brooks. M.L. is a thoughtful writer, a meticulous planner. She is an author who is quite concerned with giving her audience a completely compelling and satisfying experience. If this was indeed the end, we had a lot on our plates. An intricately plotted web that began in Mermaids in the Pacific Book Two of the The Peyton Brooks, FBI Box Set: Volume One: Books 1-5 (PIRATES... is Book 11!) had to be resolved. As well, listeners and readers could not be left hanging on tenterhooks regarding Peyton's family situation. Marco's career aspirations had to be solidified. And goodness gracious sakes, what is to become of the Ghost Squad? And, of course, no Hamilton 'Peyton Brooks' mystery is complete without new challenges for the characters to face. The suggestion that another serial killer might be on the horizon is a weighty undertaking for Marco's SFPD homicide squad. Its gravity balances perfectly the order for Peyton to testify as a Special Agent for the FBI before the United States Senate Committee on Ethics in Washington, DC. Hamilton as always cuts the 'wedding cake'd tension perfectly with hilarious moments between Maria, Abe, Tag and her fiance' Amber as Peyton attempts to referee a not so flawless wedding plan. And I have two additional words for you - 'Ferret's Army'. The Senate Ethics hearings are a brilliant device used by Hamilton to remind us of the backstory concerning the murder of Corporal Issac Daws and the subsequent killings and mysteries that surround him. It also gives context to understand the various time fronts to which this story careens. This shift in time became a focal point for M.L. and myself as we developed the concept for the 'heard' audiobook to accompany the 'seen' paperback/ebook. Thanks to producer/engineer Bruce Carver we think we created an effective way to keep the listener on track. At the same time, this particular production detail adds a unique aural experience found only in the audiobook. It makes it a special listen. As for my narration duties, I didn't have to speak Russian - okay, I know that joke is getting a bit tired (see Goblins in San Francisco, but I was required to pull out the stops for an inordinate number of psychopaths. With 4+ killers woven into Pirates in Las Vegas I feel like I have done some of my best work in Chapter 18. I leave it to the listeners to confirm. There is a Very Important Author's Note at the start of this fantastic mystery that alerts the listener to the road ahead. And if you want to know the fate of Peyton Brooks, Marco DeAngelo, Jake, Abe, Harper, Devan and all the rest of the riveting characters that populate this remarkable series you will just have to listen to the teaser following the Epilogue. Or watch Episode 10 of Hamilton & Hazen: Behind the Mic. At the end of the day, or the end of this series, there's not a moment of work I have done with M.L. Hamilton that I would not do again. Pirates in Las Vegas is an wild and exceptional ride, equal to the high standard set by all the Peyton Brooks Mysteries. I continue to be honored to be a part of it.
Another great book in the series...:) It's been a while since my last meeting with Peyton and Marco and I seem to have forgotten how fast-paced and engaging the books are:) The plot as always is full of surprises, twists, complications and mysteries; as always, a lot happens also in Peyton's private life - this time she's expecting her first baby, an adventure in itself both for her and Marco. That also adds to the tension - will the elusive enemy attack her while she's carrying or will he be hesitant because of her pregnancy? That is the question we constantly ask ourselves... I like the structure of the book - coming back and forth in time makes you follow the plotline more intensely as you have to keep up with where you are in the investigation. As always, the characters are well-defined and well-described, although it definitely would be helpful if you knew previous books in the series: there are a lot of characters that appear for one or two scenes only. As they are all part of Peyton and Marco's circle of co-workers and friends, introduced to us before, their presence in this installment is plausible and logical. But that really huge number of individuals may be confusing for those readers/listeners who are new to the series - and that's the only flaw of the book I can pinpoint:)
Narration by Ms Hazen is very good, as usual, although this time I did not really like some of the voices she's given a few characters (I just remembered these were the ones I didn't like in the previous books either - Ms Hazen is very meticulous about maintaining the same voicing of particular characters throughout a series - which I love about her narrations:)). That said, she's a great interpreter of emotions the characters feel and she carries those emotions to us and brings the whole books to life with her wonderful interpretations.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and enjoyed it very much. As with all the other books in this series, this book was hard to turn off. Great characters, with suspense and humor made you want to listen to it to the very end. Peyton and Marco are waiting for the birth of their first child as they continue solving crimes with the help of the friends. The trip to the delivery room had twists and turns to get there, but is was an extremely enjoyable trip. Many mysteries are answered in this book, but the foundation of a new series is also started. Which means we will get to listen to this great combination of author and narrator again. I'm eagerly waiting for the first book in this new series.
Pirates in Las Vegas (Peyton Brooks, FBI Book 11) was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. Marco and Peyton are both advancing in their careers. Their future seems secure and they are looking forward to it. Marco settles into his role as captain, while Peyton navigates the process of becoming the lead in the Hate Crimes Division. Peyton has still been getting cryptic messages from Enigma, a man who speaks in riddles about the Lance Corporal Daws case. Not only is Peyton close to ending the case, but she's also in incredible danger. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
All my favorite characters are back and the story kept me on the edge of my seat. All the answers have finally been revealed and it was as great as I expected it to be.
I have been following M.L. Hamilton’s stories for years and I am never disappointed. She has a way with words and can pull you right in to any story she writes. I can’t wait to see what’s to come next.
The right narrator can really take a story to the next level. Kelley Hazen is that narrator. Her timing is impeccable and she consistently portrays the characters across all the books in the series.

So much fun to read, I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the weaving of multiple cases, and jumping back and forth in time. The usual cast of characters were like old friends, but I think this book would work well even if you haven't followed Peyton's past adventures. Glad to read that this series will continue.
This was very interesting and enjoyable. It is sad when you read about soldiers coming home and have a hard time dealing with society. Also when your own government doesn't acknowledge you only when they need you. It was great when Peyton and Marco embraced their little one. It was a close call but Peyton was strong. Looking forward to the next book. Loved the storyline. Great story.
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I am so glad Peyton, Marco and their new baby are ok. Such an exciting heart stopping book!!! Thanks ML. So sad to see the Peyton Brooks books ending! This was an excellent series!!
