Two of a Kind was a book I stumbled across in my quest to find a comfort listen. Low angst and Abby Craden. Bingo. Plus, a couple of writers who always deliver on the humour/romance/sex side of things.
Maisie just wants to keep a promise she made to her dad; get her college degree. Life however has other plans. She is under appreciated at work, but she is relying on a promotion to make the money she needs. When that job sends her to Vegas for a weekend of work, she ends up meeting a woman she can’t get out of her head.
Drew is in Vegas for a horse competition, traveling from her ranch, with high expectations of taking home the big chunk of prize money that accompanies first place. It’s in the bag, because she is the best at what she does. Plus, the future of the ranch is depending on her. When her hat flies off during her ride, and she comes face to face with Maisie, the course of both of their lives is set to change.
Both women are left devastated and emotionally drained after their night in Vegas, for completely different reasons, and it isn’t for a few months until the truth about what happened comes out, and they are pushed together once again. The instant chemistry they had to begin with is still very much there, and they laugh and banter their way back to Drew’s ranch. On a mission to help save it, Maisie realizes she loves the country life, and Drew finds it hard to imagine a time when she wasn’t around.
Stuff happens in true light romance style, a little miscommunication, heartbreak, the grand gesture and the inevitable happily ever after.
Markinson and MacLeod are seasoned writers who know how to create sweet lovable femes, and broody soft butches, with story arcs that ensure a fast paced, humorous, and sexy ride. With Abby Craden narrating, Two of a Kind is not to be missed.
