Deacon Saint’s father told him once that anything that gets his blood racing is worth the risk doing. He doesn’t factor in that he would have to face the tragic loss of a best friend, discover that his mother has Alzheimer and come face to face with a girl who broke his heart all those years ago. Nevertheless, coming back to my hometown in Tennessee after being gone for ten years—leaving behind a racing career in the MotoGP world—that Deacon would have to deal with the trials set before him in this small town. He’d rather take on the track, lose skin, break bones, and tear muscle than choose to open his heart.
Olivia Bane thought her life is perfect. Working as a nurse, a boyfriend who’s a doctor, and friends she cherishes. However, the second Deacon Saint comes back home, her ideal life shifts to utter chaos. Someone broke into her barn and a fire is set in Deacon’s, all the while learning a hard lesson of trust.
Deacon shattered Olivia before he left town and now he thinks it’s water under the bridge and is determined to reclaim her heart. She might be throwing off mixed messages, but it’s going to take more than sweet talkin’, fast motorcycles, and good old Southern country charm to win her back. #smalltownromance #southernromance #smalltowntennessee #contemporaryromance #secondchanceromance #backwoodsracing #motorcycles #illegalraces #disciples #bmx #motogp #motorcross #deaconandolivia #saintsvssinnersseries #Deacon #cjwarrant
This one is a powerful book that makes you come to terms with what the characters experience in your own life. It definitely brought tears to my eyes at multiple points in the book and yet I couldn’t stop reading. I just needed to know what happened next.
Deacon who left his home town and never looked back to pursue his career in racing returns home battered and a little more broken than when he left. He returns to attend his best friend's funeral and figure out just what to do with his life and that of his mother who has been diagnosed with alzheimers. As if that is not enough on his plate he runs into the one person who turned him inside out in the past and left a bitter, angry taste in his mouth, Olivia. Meanwhile, Olivia has found herself a new life after the heartbreak of the past. She is a nurse in Nashville, with a pediatric doctor as her boyfriend, all the pieces seem to be falling in line for her. That is until a trip home for a friend’s funeral makes her confront the one person who broke her heart and left without a word. The longer Deacon and Olivia spend in their home town of Alama the more problems come their way. With so many trials and tribulations will they ever find their happily ever after? Can the past really be forgiven or is there too much water under the bridge to move past?
There was a lot of action packed into this book and plenty of cliff hangers. Most of which were answered in the end but there are several openings for the author to close in books about the other characters. There are also highly difficult topics confronted in this book like physical assault, sexual assault, and dealing with a loved one that has alzheimers. Most people have faced these topics as they happened to them or someone they loved and the author does a great job with showing care in how they are presented while remaining true to the characters' experience. This was a fantastic novel and I will wait with bated breath to see about following future release dates from this author in this series. After all, I would like to close the rest of the cliffhangers left open in this book!
I enjoyed this romance story. It has some dark parts and may cause some triggers but if you get past those spots, you will find a great story that is worth reading. I enjoyed how the author’s writing style and attention to details made the story realistic. The characters are relatable and have great chemistry. They made the story pop which made it easy to read. This is a story about Deacon and Olivia. They have a past together but now fate is giving them a second chance. Is Olivia too hurt to forgive Deacon? You don’t want to miss what happens with these two. I enjoyed their growth as well as the plot growth throughout that made it entertaining. They made me come back for more, I needed to know what happened to them. They are great characters that made the story for me. I highly recommend reading this book, find out if Olivia gives Deacon a second chance.
This book makes you dream of days gone by when everything was simple and made sense. Deacon is home from a long absents, for the funeral of his friend, while home he reconnects with his friends and the woman who got away, through misunderstandings,. This shows the dynamics between people who have been together from basically birth, til they all went on to spread their wings and to try to make it on their own. Fast forward to now, they are all back in their hometown and it hurts them all in different ways. Deacon, because he set his friend home on bad terms, and feels really bad about it and for not being here for him. Olivia is trying to. Move on with her life, but it takes a turn for the worst, when her new Doctor boyfriend turns out to be an abuser and worst. Everyone finally comes together and starts to rebuild that what was broken, and also trying to find out who is destroying and stealing from both Deacon and Olivia.
I enjoyed this story but I can honestly say it took a few chapters to actually get into it. I loved Deacon but found Olivia a bit of hard work, how she constantly put Deacon down, mind they could've both had their heads banged together for not talking to each other, and as for Christopher, boy, she should've listened to her friends. All in all though once I got passed it, I loved it and couldn't put it down.
Deacon is an enjoyable and engaging second-chance romance story. The male camaraderie between Deacon as his group of friends is so utterly joyous and comforting to see. It’s all the more poignant given the book begins with Deacon’s return to Alama after the untimely death of one of his childhood friends, Randy.
Knowing he’ll soon have to face his childhood sweetheart, Olivia, at Randy’s funeral Deacon steels himself for further rejection and heartache, by giving her the cold shoulder. His life already is a far cry from what it once was, after a Motor GP accident left him with challenging injuries and a lengthy stint in PT, forcing him into early retirement. The last thing he feels he needs is more humiliation, especially when old rivalries begin to surface.
As the story progresses Olivia and Deacon struggle with their rekindled affection for one another, as well as growing suspicions relating to the death of their friend.
This book has a huge number of things going for it, starting with relatable and likeable characters. Mixed with suspense, action and a peppering of spice Deacon is well deserving of a solid four star rating. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more books in the Saints Vs Sinners series.
A thoroughly enjoyable second chance at love romance which had me hooked from start to finish. When Deacon Saint returns to his hometown, Alama, Tennessee, having left ten years before to start his MotoGP racing career, he knew things could get difficult. After all, he's mourning the tragic loss of his best friend, leaving behind his racing career, and dealing with his mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. However, he did not expect to come face to face with the girl he’s always loved and who broke his heart, Olivia Bane. Meanwhile, Olivia was enjoying her perfect life, working as a nurse, having a group of great friends and a boyfriend who’s a doctor, and then Deacon returns and her life turns chaotic. Suddenly, her boyfriend turns out to be a monster, she’s at risk of loosing her job, and worse of all, she’s at risk of falling in love with the person who previously broke her heart, Deacon. Deacon will need more than his, ‘good old Southern country charm’ if he’s to win her back! I loved the main characters, independent Olivia and, ‘smooth talkin’’ Deacon, and although their past has made them wary of one another, which comes across in the narrative, their chemistry also sizzled off the page. I felt immersed in the storyline, which had plenty of plot twists to keep me happily turning the pages, and I was hoping the couple would get their HEA. An entertaining and engaging read, which I recommend.
Deacon (Saints vs Sinners Series #1) by CJ Warrant
This is the first book by the author that I've read. Warrant has a way of drawing in readers and keeping them. Deacon is an amazing read and you'll love it. It is the first book in the Saints vs Sinners Series.
Deacon is back for a friend's funeral and learns about his father's friend's passing. He wants to stick around town, but with his ex being there it's hard. On top of his mom being sick he doesn't know what to do. The quote I chose for Deacon is: “I don’t know. Maybe. It’s a little too strange for me to think that Falcon, who was so anal about his motorcycles, would race someone like Dog and not make sure his bike was safe. I don’t know the details of that day, but I can’t buy into the fact that his engine blew during the race. Something had to have caused it without catching Falcon’s attention.”
Olivia is attending a funeral once again. First her father and now a friend. Deacon is back in town and she isn't sure how to feel about that. Now her boyfriend wants her to give all that up. The quote I chose for Olivia is: “Christopher, Deacon and the rest of the guys sitting at that table are like my brothers. I grew up with them. They hung around my daddy’s place. They have been a part of my life forever, and to ignore them—”
Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.
Deacon suffered in his life, more than most all he needs to do is escape the town he grew up in. Years later he is brought back to his hometown to bury his best friend but hopefully he does not dig up old memories.
Olivia was broken when Deacon left one night forever wondering if their friendship ever was as solid as she thought, but time has passed, and she moved away and made a life for herself but coming back home will hurt especially if she sees him.
Once they meet up old feelings and insecurities come flooding back but with the pressures, they are both under can they rekindle what they had lost years before.
This is the first book I have read by this author and OMG what a book to start with. The story was well written and fully of emotion in each chapter written. I loved these two main characters and the emotional struggle they have been through with each other and apart and that they are a little jade around the edges but still truly believe they can be there for each other.
The story around the struggles with his mother’s Alzheimer’s is thought provoking and written with dignity and empathy and you are drawn into the decisions he must make. This story is about survival and strength and with the story meandering through with twists and turns, cliff hangers I can not wait to read the next book in this series.
There are moments in life that take us to a place in our minds that we never wish to revisit. Loss tends to take away our ability to see the sunshine, rainbows and silver linings of this life. This seems to very much be the problem that Deacon, our main man in this experience, suffers from and the hits just keep coming. Luckily for him, he has his Disciples, his chosen family to have his back through the good and the bad. They seem to really keep him in check and do whatever they can to help me regain his footing. The author does an immaculate job at portraying the hardships of life, the emotional roller coaster, and the personality of an overall incredibly loving and caring man and his family throughout. I couldn’t put the novel down, and let it eat up most of this past weekend, without complaint, of course!
Now, Olivia, or Liv as her nearest and dearest refer to her as, has many of the same hardships, losses and issues that Deacon has been experiencing, both having lost their fathers, and feeling like the weight of the world rest on their shoulders. Liv’s issues continue to develop as the story moves forward, and things start to get really unclear as to what she is to deem right, and wrong in her choices. Luckily for these two, they know that when times get extraordinarily tough, they will be there for each other, too, no matter what. This story was fantastic from start to finish what with the character development, world building, and suspense, and I cannot wait to continue this series, an find out more about Sinner’s back story. Highly recommend!
This was my first MC romance book and boy did the author deliver! I absolutely loved that there was more than just *spicy* romance. You really get to know the characters, especially Deacon and Olivia, and the good, bad, and ugly of them. This was an amazing way to start off the series and I cannot wait for the next book! I'm totally hooked! Deacon Saint comes home after being away for 10 year for a funeral he doesn't want to attend. While grappling with his feelings over losing one of his best friends, finding out his mother has Alzheimer's, and a life-changing job decision, Deacon runs into Olivia Bane, the former love of his life. He still hasn't forgiven her for what she did 10 years ago and she hasn't forgiven him either. Still reeling from the loss of her father, Olivia doesn't want to deal with Deacon, but she has too...per her father's will. There's definitely more to the story with these two and there's no denying the fireworks and electricity between them. But there are trials and tribulations that they have to overcome together and on their own. Deacon and Olivia's story is full of twists and turns, but well worth it! C.J. Warrant definitely knows how to hook her readers in and keep them coming back for more!
This is a great second chance romance/enemies to lovers contemporary romance novel that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I had never read any of this author’s work previously but was very intrigued by the blurb and decided to give it a chance. I’m so glad that I did. If this book is anything to go by then I’m going to read more of this author’s work. I’m already excited to read the next instalment as Kyle is made out to be an unsavoury character, so I’m wondering how his story will go. Getting back to this book, I adored Deacon and Olivia. Both are amazing characters that I could really relate to. This book just oozed angst and I’m a sucker for an angsty book. These two just needed to give into their feelings. But then the story would be over too soon and we wouldn’t get this emotional read that had me gripped from beginning to end. There is a great storyline running alongside the romance. Set in the motorbiking world there is a lot of drama, danger and intrigue to keep you engrossed and very entertained. I loved the closeness and camaraderie between Deacon and his group of friends ‘the disciples’ and can’t wait to find out more about these guys as the series continues.
This was an emotional 5 star read. Deacon returns home to attend his best friend's funeral and to take care of his mother. He also needs to work on getting things straight but when someone from his past shows up things get interesting. Olivia returns home to attend a funeral, when she sees Deacon the past comes crashing back on her along with the heartbreak. They both have hurt feelings and the more time they spend together the more old feelings start to come back. Can they finally work out their history? Will they get a HEA?
Overall this was a great read with lots of twists and turns. There is so much packed into this read my head was spinning. I really enjoyed their story, their chemistry came off the pages. The author does a great job with her writing and pulls you right in. If you're looking for a great 2nd chance romance 1-click and get started today. I look forward to reading more from this author.
If you love Sons of Anarchy this book is for you. Be warned this does have mature content including abuse. This is my first book by this author and CJ Warrant did not disappoint with the first book in the Saint vs Sinners Series. The male MC Deacon gives all the best Jax Teller vibes and Olivia the female MC is defiantly a bad ass in her own right. Deacon left the town of Alama and Olivia, his first and only love, years ago to pursue his dream of MotoGP racing. After losing his racing career A tragic death brings him home to the woman he loved but lost years ago and the friends he never realized how much he needed. Deacon and Olivia both have to figure out how to move forward in their lives while attempting to solve some mysteries along the way. Once I picked it up, I wasn’t able to put it down and defiantly found myself reading this early in to the morning. It is a happy ending but does leave a lot of unanswered questions that already have me craving the next instalment.
Deacon had my heart from the very first time I laid eyes on him and then my heart shatters for as him and his brothers lay one of their own to rest …. There’s been way to much loss for these guys and I think something is up ….,
So not only does Deacon come home to death and mayhem but his mamma has a debilitating disease and my heart shatters for him , I’ve walked that path and it’s so very sad …..
Olivia and Deacon were made for each other and no matter how much time has passed that bond will always be there ❣️
One would think with a MC book you wouldn’t really cry because there’s so much action but I beg to differ I had a real snot fest with this one but I also had my blood boiling with murderous thoughts and had to fan myself to cool down the hormonal hot mess these two had me in !
I loved every page of this read and it’s one to shout from rooftops ❣️📕
Deacon is book one in the Saints vs. Sinners series and it is an emotional rollercoaster. This book is an unpredictable ride that has danger at every turn. I can't wait to see what's next.
Deacon (Saints vs Sinners Series) by CJ Warrant. This is a great start to a series! I can't wait to read the next book. This is the story of Deacon who left his home town to become a professional race car driver. He returns home beat and battered and broken hearted because he's here to attend his best friends funeral. His mom has also been diagnosed with Alzheimers. Olivia returns home for the same friends funeral after leaving town to become a successful nurse in Nashville and she also has a pediatric doctor as her boyfriend. So when Olivia returns home and knows she is going to see Deacon the man who broke her heart before she left town she is kind of excited to see him and rub in his face all she has going for her. As Deacon and Olivia spend more time together they begin to realize that those feelings are still there and maybe Olivia's not as happy as she thinks she is. Will they be able to forget the past and move on together? Read Deacon to find out!
What a ride! Wow this story is filled with action, action, action and suspense. I loved it and could hardly put it down! It starts off with a bang and lets me get to know the Disciples, which I loved. This made me feel for each of the characters….even Randy.
The secondary characters are just as fun and interesting as the main ones. It seems everyone has a secret and ten years is too long to be gone and expect everything to be the same. I enjoy all the secrets as they unravel..so fun trying to figure them out beforehand.
This book is extremely well written. The story flows quickly and smoothly. The characters are memorable and relatable. I do have a ton of notes on every character as they all have numerous quirks, loves and ideals. I can not wait for more from this author or this series!
A Bad Boy, Doctor, and Southern Belle walk in a bar….
Well maybe not into a bar. Deacon Saint has been gone for 10 years and so much has changed. His family, friends, and love of his life are all grown up and moved on… So he thought.
Olivia Bane…. She definitely didn’t think she’d see Deacon again.. especially at one of his best friends funerals… But.. there he was.. Just as perfect as she remembered… What would her boyfriend think of this…
Dr. Martin is an outstanding Doctor… but is that all he uses his hands for?
If I could give this book more then 5 stars I definitely would! I LOVE the multi POV between the two main characters. The plot and the way everything ran together was AMAZING! It was sweet, sultry, real, emotional story will have you laughing, crying, and yelling all o the same page! I would definitely recommend this book to everyone to read!
Deacon might just be one of my favorite male main characters so far this year. Right from page one I was completely hooked and knew I was in for a great read. Olivia is also an amazing character. Each one has been through so much and I loved their second Chance story. This book is filled with steam, tough but well written situations, mystery and drama. The friendships in this book are strong and will definitely grab your heart. It’s got everything you need in a second Chance type story! It’s definitely one that I’m going to remember. I’m excited to read what’s next from this author. Five stars all the way and highly recommended!
Deacon Saint is back home for a funeral after 10 years. Nothing is going how he thought it would. His mom has Alzheimer’s, he just lost one of his best friends, and he has a life changing job that he must decide if he will take. Now she has run into his long lost love Olivia Bane. Can they both get past their past? Are there still feelings or is it too late? This was such a great book. So well written and the characters were just awesome! If you have never read a MC book, I would highly recommend it!
This is my first-time reading CJ Warrant, and it is a great way to start off a series. I don’t usually read books without a supernatural something in it, but this one was good. I was hooked to the well written characters in this book. It was hard for me to put down. This book is full of twists that I couldn’t wait to see where it was going to go. I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next with Deacon and Olivia. This book does have triggers, but this author has a well written storyline. I will definitely be on the look out for the next installment to this series.
This former lovers to enemies finding their way back to love again story was very good. The HEA comes back into town after being gone for 10 years for a funeral and runs into his former girlfriend. Both he and she are mad at past situations and don’t want to forgive each other, but a will stipulations won’t let them walk away. There’s great character development and the story line is good. Will be on the lookout for the next in this series.
Lord have mercy was this a real page turner. I loved that this was more than a romance story. The author gave you mystery, tragedy, humor and romance all rolled into one.
I thought it was pretty cool that Deacon and Olivia come from a small town where everyone knows everyone. I love that they grew up together and were really good friends that fell in love.
The author did a phenomenal job keeping you guessing whether or not that love they felt for each other, all these years, is enough to get past the hurt they have both endured.
I absolutely loved this book and what an introduction it was to a new author! I was hooked from the very first page. The writing was exciting and so easy to read. I loved Deacon and Olivia, both of their past gave them reason to resent each other, they both held painful memories. There were some really emotional parts to the story and I really was wrapped up in Deacon and Olivia’s story and I was definitely rooting for them the whole way through. The author did an amazing job with this story and I am really looking forward to reading more from them in the future.
Great story. It had it all, new lives and old lives combining back up. It had me hooked from the beginning. I loved how well written all the characters were and I can’t wait to read the next ones.
This book really blew me away. I went into this expecting your typical second chance romance story and honestly I was taken aback at how kuchen I connected with these characters. They journey was so turbulent but completely realistic. The author had such a good grasp on their development throughout the book. It felt quite fast paced for a romance as well which I think added to the overall effect. I read this book so fast because I simply couldn't put it down. This is a great story and one I would highly recommend.
This was a first from this author for me and what an engaging read! Great mix of chemistry and suspense to leave us on the edge of our seats! I believe this is the first book in the series and I will certainly be looking for the others! I really liked how easily the book flowed from one point to the next making it such an easy read. I read from start to finish in one sitting because I couldn't stop!
Enemies to lovers in a big way. Deacon comes home after a long stint away, for a funeral no less. He bumps into Olivia and those old sparks fly. This story had the best and the worst of the characters. They were so detailed and in depth you really get a great sense of who they are. Both the characters and the story line are a driving force to this novel and truly make it one story you won’t be able to put down!
This is such a powerful story the characters are brought to life before your eyes. Olivia and Deacon have both a painful history which effect them now and in the past. There is many trigger in this book as it haz some dark points. Running into a former lover is harder enough add in death. A great read.
Deacon returns home after a career in racing, that didn’t end well. We follow him as he tries to deal with the challenges that life has thrown at him.
Olivia turns Deacon’s head and turns his life upside down again.
Are they destined for happily ever after or fated to break each other apart?
Well that was a rollercoaster of a book! Full of action, cliff hangers and a few tear jerker moments. This was a fantastic first book in the series and I will be continuing in the series.
