As a mental health professional, working with victimsof sex-trafficking and sexual violence, I am aware of thecomplexities of this modern day form of slavery, threateningthe dignity and security of millions throughout the world.Hence a special interest in picking this novel for review. The novel, Trafficked, explores the stark fears andinsecurities of women forced into prostitution, experiencingelusive love, sexual perils, adventures of grief, jealousy andtrauma in each of the chapters. Vien Singh explores thedifficult geometry of human relations and the continued questfor meaning and connection through intricate descriptionof people and places. His characters moving throughfascinating trajectories, speak for themselves, sometimes inwhispers, but also, through loud screams, in the context of abrothel, where societal norms are often upended and justiceand coherence flounder. This is a deeply felt and beautifullywritten book, which will prove a rewarding read.
