He'd rather walk away than let the darkness inside him tarnish her light.
Meadow Smith's yearning to belong led her to make a terrible decision, one she regrets but can never take back. Now she’s on the run and has to decide if she can put her trust in another man or if it's safer to keep moving. Problem is, she can't run from her mistakes forever.
Abe Black tries to forget the haunting things he witnessed while serving his country by immersing himself in his role as Sherrif in the small town of River's End. But as soon as he spots Meadow, he knows she’s in trouble, and that brings the nightmares flooding back. Meadow needs saving and Abe wants to save her, but neither of them can afford these growing feelings. Not with her secrets, and not when he's been burned before. Badly.
Can Abe settle for just trying to keep her alive and then walk away? Or will avoiding the truth of their feelings only put them both in more danger?
USA Today bestselling author Jane Blythe writes action-packed romantic suspense and military romance featuring protective heroes and heroines who are survivors. One of Jane's most popular series includes Prey Security, part of Susan Stoker's OPERATION ALPHA world! Writing in that world alongside authors such as Janie Crouch and Riley Edwards has been a blast, and she looks forward to bringing more books to this genre, both within and outside of Stoker's world. When Jane isn't binge-reading she's counting down to Christmas and adding to her 200+ teddy bear collection!
Some Regrets Are Forever is the classic abused wife fleeing from her abusive husband with a bit of a twist. The husband is an extremely sadistic psychopath who will stop at nothing to get his wife back which he views as his property. However, the way this story in particular plays out is way too far fetched even for fiction with regards to how everything plays out for the victim. 2/5
This author never disappoints!! This one hooked me immediately. It was emotional and exciting from beginning to end. My heart ached for Meadow and everything she had endured but then Abe comes into the picture and changes everything
Looking at the cover, I thought this may be a bit on the tame side, but I should never have second guessed Jane Blythe. I immediately connected to Meadow, a woman on the run…
She had just enough money to get her to River’s End.
From the moment Abe Black, the sheriff of River’s End, saw her at the diner, he became her protector. Seeing this is a romantic suspense novel, I don’t think it will stay that way. LOL
Abe had grown up in River’s End, and after the war in Afghanistan, he came home to the peace and quiet of the small town of River’s End. He became the sheriff and settled on his own plot of land. He determined it was his lot in life, to maintain a peaceful place for those to come.
I love stories that take place in small towns, a damsel in distress, and a hunkaclicious man who will save her. We quickly meet the characters that live there and they appear as if they could be our own neighbors and friends.
Abe made Meadow an offer…to stay with him until she got on her feet. It felt safe to her. It felt right, and she wondered….
She was running…from a psychopathic husband that wants what belongs to him and will stop at nothing to get IT back.
Jane Blythe has the ability to create characters and worlds that quickly draw me in, never letting me go. I loved that she found a way to write romantic suspense without the woman making some boner move that has her walking into danger. I know it’s hard to come up with new ways to create danger and suspense in the last half of the book without the woman looking like a dumbass and making a stupid move, running straight into trouble, but Jane Blythe did a bang up job of doing just that.
I highly recommend Jane Blythe’s work and can hardly wait to see what she comes up with for the next book in the River’s End Rescues series.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Some Regrets Are Forever by Jane Blythe.
I was hooked immediately by this story and desperately wanted to know all about Meadow Smith. Then when Abe Black came on the scene things became even more interesting. I can honestly say this story was filled with lots of drama and action that keeps you, not only entertained but also emotionally charged as well. Talk about sitting on the edge of your seat with your heart pumping as fast as possible.
Meadow was a delightful character and one who was absolutely perfect for Abe. Abe was an upstanding guy who lived to protect others as well as his heart. I liked both characters immediately and my empathy for Meadow was immense. On the flip side, this author is well known for her detailed descriptions of the criminals and their crimes in her books, she certainly doesn’t disappoint in this book either. She leaves you wanting to slam the cell door on his face or worse!
As stated, the emotions you experience with the characters were so real in a couple of scenes I nearly looked behind me to check for danger myself! 😆 Great character and setting descriptions also help to build vivid images to go along with this story.
I can’t wait for Theo’s story next, this exciting new series at River’s End should be on everyone’s must-read list.
I get so excited every time I get to dive into a new book by this author, as I know she'd never let this self proclaimed suspense junkie down. Yet again I was proven right. This was a fantastic way to start a series, full of new characters for us to fall in love with. This story certainly wasn't easy, especially for the female main character, so even though you wanted to (gently) shake her at times, you'll still find yourself transfixed from cover to cover.
Meadow never thought she’d be on the run but when she meets Abe she knows she shouldn’t trust him but is in desperate need for help. Abe takes one look at Meadow and knows she’s in trouble and the connection he feels toward her makes him want to protect her. Abe and Meadow were such sweet characters and there story was enjoyable
Wow - what a great start to a series! I really wanted to understand Meadow Smith and why she was running. Abe was an absolute terrific protector! There is so much drama and action, it keeps you on the seat of your pants! The story is so engaging and emotional. Meadow is just looking for someone to love and to love her, you can feel her emotions as the story unfolds. Abe tried to stay emotionally unattached but in the end, he knew that Meadow is the one for him! I just love Meadow and Abe together.
The story is very graphic as the author really gets into the villian's mind and actions, that you just want to scream! You may want to sleep with the light on for a night or two.
As usual, the author did not disappoint in this romantic thriller! I am ready for the next story about Theo!
Meadow Smith is 24 years old and on the run for her life and that of her unborn baby. She only has a few dollars left to survive on but she knows she has to keep running before he finds her.
Sheriff Abe Black is 33 years old and loves his solitary life after a past relationship has left him bitter towards love. When he sees Meadow inside the diner he can tell she is alone and could use a helping hand.
Yet soon Abe realizes that trouble has followed Meadow to River's End and he has to decide if he's going to help protect Meadow and in turn risk his heart once again.
I'm excited that the author has a new series and I am liking where this one is headed already!
I felt horrible for Meadow as you could tell she was on the run and was extremely afraid for what would happen to her if she was caught. She had no money yet at the same time she didn't want to ask for any handouts. I was definitely scared for where she went her first night and I was so grateful that Abe found her.
Abe was a great character who had been burned in the past but was still willing to help out when it was required. He really helped Meadow out and I was glad that she had someone in her corner.
As soon as Abe and Julian get to the first crime scene you know that there is a link to Meadow but it was just a matter of what Meadow was aware of. I felt awful for her when she began to discover the truth as she really had no clue up until then. I loved that she finally told Abe everything that she knew as she knew that was her bet chance at survival.
There was a certain part of the book that my heart broke a little for Meadow as she really had her hopes up with Abe but he wasn't looking for anything which leads to a not good situation. I was super curious on how he kept finding her but then everything fell into place and didn't feel over the top.
The end was actually awesome with what Meadow did and I was so proud of her for taking that chance! I was proud of her for running but I was also very worried for her. I was so happy that it really made Abe realize what he wanted in his life!
Meadow Smith, 24, is alone, five months pregnant, and homeless after arriving in a new town called River's End. She's taken in by the local Sheriff, Abe Black - "a gruff, emotionally distant bachelor who enjoyed his privacy" - he's doomed! He has a penchant for one nights stands, she's just looking for someone to love her - he's doubly doomed! He knows she's running from someone or something but gives her the space she need to pull her life together. And then the peaceful town is rocked by two murders, killings that seem linked to Meadow. Her psychopath husband, amazingly named John Smith, will stop at nothing to get Meadow back under his control. And if that means killing everyone in River's End, then so be it. "Some regrets are Forever" is overly simplistic much of the time but it does have a lot of heart and a very sappy, though satisfying, ending. 2.5 Stars raised to 3 Stars.
I’m sorry, I have never given a one star review. First, TRIGGER WARNINGS. I’m telling you right now, even someone who hasn’t experienced traumatic events could be triggered by this book. I read the sample and thought I’d give it a shot. Nope. Rape, abuse, assault, and more. It was disturbing. And I’ve read difficult material before but the story is not there. The characters are incredibly flat. It’s very cliched and repetitive. And it’s clear that the person who put together this book… was not writing what they know. A person who suffered the kind of trauma this woman did… would not be jumping into bed with the first guy she met two days later. And if she did… sorry it’s just not good. The whole thing. I had to finish it because I needed to see where the train wreck ended. And I feel bad… but it was really really not good. Do not recommend.
Meadow Smith is broke, pregnant and on the run from her abusive husband. When she reaches a small town called River’s End, it’s supposed to be a stopover to … nowhere, however….
Sheriff Abe Black knows his little town very well. He also knows that the beautiful young woman, who is obviously pregnant, is in trouble. He helps out and sends her on her way, believing that this is the end of it - but….
A nice and entertaining romantic suspense novel. The plot was solid, well elaborated and equally balanced between romance/ suspense part. Both main characters were well portrayed and there was an oversee-able set of sub characters to embellish the storyline. I loved the descriptions of landscape, especially because they immersed me immediately into the mood of the scene.
I have my own set of “quality standards” when it comes to reading a book and I nearly ticked off all the boxes that would keep my happy. However, somehow and despite all the “right criteria” (LOL for me, of course!) the book didn’t really sit well with me. I sometimes missed the atmosphere although there was a perfectly fine description and I sometimes felt that I was reading a report instead of a book. Maybe this was because the main characters often expressed their thoughts at the expense of dialogue, which let the text appear more compact. I’m any case, I did enjoy the book and would most definitely recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.
First off I'm going to pile on with other reviews and state this absolutely needs a trigger warning for SA. That being said the FLC has the emotional maturity of a tween. The MLC has the emotional depth of a puddle. Together they make an absolutely ridiculous pair and certainly shouldn't be the lead characters in a romance. Now I'll take you through some seriously troubling issues with the storyline. I would say spoiler alert but it would be impossible to spoil this trash heap of a story. The sheriff knows the FLC is being hunted by her violent despicable SERIAL KILLER husband and yet.....he doesn't contact the state police, FBI or even warn the general public in this ridiculously small town. The coupld actually walk down main street. At night. Giggling in the snow!!! Complete with FLC spinning and making snow angels and snowmen. Then they are utterly shocked when serial killer husband tracks them to his brothers house. The immaturity and sheer stupidity of these characters had me rooting for Darwin to just thin the herd and relieve society from these pathetic souls. Honestly, there are so many examples of bad decisions and poor life choices I could write an entire paper about it. In closing, if I could give zero stars I absolutely would have. With any luck I would have saved at least one soul from wasting their time with this book.

Excuse me while I catch my breath after finishing Some Regrets are Forever. This was my very first book from Jane Blythe and it was equal parts suspenseful, gruesome and empowering.
I really liked Meadow. She was so strong and brave and resilient. Even on the run for her life and not sure where to turn or who to trust, she never counted herself down. And when she stumbled her way into Rivers End, she had no clue what she would find but she was determined to make the most of it. Enter Abe Black. I adored this gentle yet protective man. His relationship with his family. His dedication to his town. The way he opened up his home and heart to Meadow. Shared his painful past and the moments that still haunt him with her.
She brought out all of his protective instincts and as the danger around her grew closer and more sinister it was all he could do to try and stay one step ahead of a madman. But somehow, the danger kept finding her. I knew it was coming, it was inevitable but my heart was still pounding as those tense moments played out.
I will say that I found a few parts of the story repeated themselves but it wasn't enough to detract from the overall feel of things. Meadow and Abe's whirlwind romance was full of danger and feelings. And that ending! JUST YES! I am looking forward to seeing what Jane Blythe has in store for the small town of River's End next.
What a beautiful story. I loved And and Meadow from the get go. Abe is such a strong character, a protector with goodness ingrained into his soul. I found his character very relatable. It's human nature to protect yourself once hurt, and I felt my heart ache for what he was missing out on. Meadow blew me away. Despite all the pain, fear, terror and heartache she had been subjected to she still had an aura of innocence about her. A light without that refused to burn out. My heart aches for these two characters as they navigated the tough waters of fear to find a love that was perfect for them. The evil bearing down on them was a living, breathing entity that keeps you on your toes throughout the whole journey. Jane Blythe has an inate talent of creating relatable characters and scenarios that we can really get our teeth into. Her stories are written with an obvious love for her art which shines like a beacon through the magical worlds she creates. This story invited me in from the first word, offered me a chair to relax into as I joined them on their rollercoaster ride. Definitely recommend. 5 stars just aren't enough to fully appreciate how wonderful and heart warming this story is
Jane Blythe is brilliant at writing suspense with heroines who are so strong, but have been through so much, and she pens them realistically to boot so my emotions are always running amok during this experience that I live through with the heroines. Some Regrets are Forever is her latest book about Meadow, a woman who went through so much in a short period of time that was so desperate, she would rather sleep on the cold streets than go back to where she came from. She lands in River's End, a small town where everyone knows your business before you even have time to process anything, and luckily for her, she comes across the Sheriff, Abe, who isn't on the market for a relationship after getting his heart shattered, but maybe just maybe, Meadow is just what the doctor ordered. He doesn't necessarily handle it well, while she always worries about upsetting someone so there were a few hiccups along the way. Oh, and then there's the situation that Meadow is on the lamb from, who isn't happy that she got away making for serious f-bomb worthy twists to get your blood pressure up! I'm super excited for this new series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
5 star review Some Regrets Are Forever (River’s End Rescues #1) by Jane Blythe Jane Blythe is a new author to me and I have no idea why I have not come across this author and her books before. This was a gripping romantic suspense story that ticked the boxes for me. Set in the small town of River’s End, Meadow Smith is on the run, trusting no one until she has no choice but to trust Sheriff Abe Black. From the moment that Abe meets Meadow, he knows that she is in trouble and wants to do whatever he can to protect her and keep her safe. Complicating matters for Abe is his growing attraction to Meadow. He has been burnt before and doesn’t want to open his heart again, particularly as he knows there is a whole lot more to Meadow’s story that he knows. There were so many twists and turns that I was on the edge of my seat whilst reading and I feared that there might not be a happily ever after for Meadow and Abe. The writing was strong and the characters were complex. I cannot wait to read more in this series.

Just when you thought he couldn't get any more depraved
Meadow's abuse is haunting. Her abuser is chillingly sadistic. And still she has hope, she may be nervous, anxious and unsure, but she is willing to trust, because she knows in her heart there are good people out there...even if she hasn't found them yet! The strength of character that Meadow shows throughout this book is humbling, she may be battered, and physically broken, but she is determined to recover and find a better life. Abe has always thought of himself as a gruff, emotionally distant bachelor who enjoyed his privacy, but his every thought and action show him to be a white knight, a protector. And whilst he tries to convince himself he would do the same for anyone, deep in his heart he knows Meadow is special, she is his....it just takes his head a little longer to catch up! A fantastic first book in the series, this was gripping from page one and I read it in one sitting. I am looking forward to book two, out in April, here we get to meet Abe's other brother and I am sure he will be just as yummy as Abe!
Running with nothing but her clothes, three dollars, and the baby in her belly. Still, anything was better than what had been. Could she escape?
He'd been in the military. Now he wanted to serve but in a much quieter manner. The small town of River's End was just right--until an evil presence started a vicious crime spree. In the meantime, he spots a young woman in trouble. She needs help and is afraid. He can't leave her in the cold. His one evening of safety becomes much more. She's in trouble and afraid. Can he let her go or will he protect her?
He doesn't trust women or relationships. What he feels is different and scares him but her fear and needs overcome those other feelings or do they.
Can she trust another man? She ran after years of abuse. Hiding, starting fresh, staying safe. Is this the place? Or should she just keep moving?
The story is sometimes touching, sometimes steamy, sometimes evil, and intense for readers who are affected by graphic scenes of torture and rape. A good read. Reviewed for Words Turn Me On
Oh my gosh! What have I just read? This is my first read by Jane Blythe but it certainly won't be my last. This had me on the edge of my seat whilst still bringing the emotion and the characters.
Meadow arrives in River's End with nothing but the clothes on her back and enough money for a cup of tea. She is scared, alone and untrusting. But when Sheriff Abe steps in and provides her with food and a roof of her head, her luck appears to be changing. Abe recognises that she is in trouble and so wants to help her but she is so jumpy that he needs to go slowly. Unfortunately her past has caught up with her and going slowly isn't an option.
This was difficult to read at times as some of the scenes were graphic. Meadow is desperate to rebuild her life but the fear of her being dragged back to her old life keeps her from truly moving forward. She needs someone like Abe to show her how she should be and deserves to be treated. She needs the community of River's End to help her heal.
This is a suspense filled thriller plus romance story that will keep you on the edge of Meadow Smith has only ever wanted to be loved but it has lead to her making bad decisions .Now shes on the run ,she's decided to put her trust in another man Abe Black is Rivers Ends Sheriff. As soon as he spots Meadow he knows she's in trouble.First he served his Country now he protects his town.He wants to help her he takes her into his home but after being burned in the past he's fighting his growing feelings toward her. There is danger coming for Meadow, will the Sheriff be able save her? There are so many twists an turns to this story you will be riveted until the very last page an leave you begging for more. I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain. I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.
NOTE: Possible triggers (Abuse, Rape) Meadow Smith was cold, hungry, penniless, homeless and pregnant when sheriff Abe Black saw her and bought her a meal. Later, he found her sleeping behind a dumpster and took her home for safety. Though scared, Meadow decides she should trust Abe, within hours the small town is aware Abe has a pretty houseguest that’s pregnant.
Meadow had a cruel life from the outset; she’d spent her life wanting just one person to care about her and found herself quickly developing feelings for Abe. A bad relationship had Abe trying to protect his heart and Meadow while getting information she was reluctant to relive and provide.
An unprecedented uptick in crime that Abe is certain involves Meadow is confirmed when her abuser finds her and confronts Abe. This quickly paced read is not what this reader expected but it is a good though dark read. Rating: 4.25stars
Ya’all ... Jane has done it again!! Some Regrets are Forever is a thriller that will have your heart break and tears stream. Some parts were a little hard to read through because all I wanted to do was hug Meadow and save her. But her should never broke and she was stronger than she believed.
Abe has this pull and need to help Meadow. The chemistry with these two were instant. There isn’t much of a slow burn. But when you start hearing from Meadow’s past, you will literally get the chills.
This books is not for everyone. Sensitive subjects are touched on and I had to take a couple of breathers. This story was down right raw and will keep you stuck to these characters like glue!
This was a very gripping and haunting read by Jane Blythe. I had goosebumps the further I got into this book and I kept looking over shoulder with every page I read. Full of suspense and a thriller to the very last page Ms Blythe has outdone herself with this book. We are introduced to Meadow who is abused by her husband and she manages to escape and make her way to River’s End where she is rescued from living on the street by the Sheriff Abe Black. Unfortunately Meadow’s husband finds her and begins his trail of destruction on the residents of River’s End. I loved the characters but especially Meadow who appears to be meek but in reality is a very strong woman. This book has it all and it will keep you enthralled. 5 stars for a wonderful read.
I received an arc copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review
This is the first story I have read by Blythe and its very good. Somethings were confusing and I would of liked names of chapters instead of time and dates but maybe the time and dates will continue with the series and make more sense in the end. This story does have triggers, Meadow the female lead is on the run from an abusive spouse. Abe is the male lead, sheriff of Rivers End and is trying to catch a serial killer. Blythe does not sugar coat the evil of this story. The reason I am not giving the story five stars is I felt these couples story is not finished and I felt Meadow had a dreamy crush on Abe. Abe fought his attraction but he didn't seem in love with Meadow. Maybe their relationship will progress in future books. I will be reading the next book in series. Happy Reading!!
Jane always writes with brutal and blunt honesty. Up to about halfway this book is brilliant. Then it goes a bit off course. Some questions. How can meadow justify not sharing her husbands details with the sheriff especially after they discover the murdered girl and old man? Why does she continue to resist seeing as doctor when her baby could be at risk? How can Abe and her go on a date while said murderer has kidnapped a new victim and be laughing and frolicking in the snow? How do the two of them have sex while they know the husband has a victim he is torturing and murdering? It seems massively callous behaviour by both of them. Also, There is a lot of repetition of waffle not action, repetition of past stuff that slows down the action. In summary it starts great and ends up super annoying.
This is the 1st in a new series and once again this talented author has weaved a tale which is all-consuming and intriguing. Meadow is on the run for her life and she trusts nobody, and Abe is the sheriff of the small-town River’s End, and from the moment he sees Meadow he knowns she is in trouble and needs help. Meadow has no choice but to trust Abe, especially when her past comes back to haunt her, but can Abe protect her and keep her safe? This is a well written story which is a thrilling tale, with suspense, twists, emotions, and love. I was completely enthralled throughout this gripping tale which had me on tenterhooks, I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I highly recommend for all readers.
Some Regrets Are Forever is a raw, twisted, dark, suspenseful, action packed, and yet beautiful story that will have you instantly hooked and unable to put this story down. As I devoured this story I found myself reaching for the tissues, needing a strong drink or 10, gasping in shock and surprise, swooning during the touching moments, and on the edge of my seat with my heart in my throat beat profusely with anticipation. An element I loved in this book is the third POV (the villain). I mean these parts oh my!!!!
I have no idea how I have never read this author before but me and my romantic suspense loving heart will most definitely be back for more!!
Jane Blythe is back with an all new series and this book will have you holding on to the edge of your seat. It's impossible to put down as you get invested in Abe and Meadow's story. There are some pretty violent acts against women, so be forewarned if you have triggers.
Meadow arrives in Rivers End with just the clothes on her back. After catching the town’s sheriff's attention in the diner, he finds her sleeping behind a dumpster. He decides to help her and she goes with him, but she’s super scared and skittish. It takes a lot of coaxing just to find out she’s on the run from someone.
Will Meadow's stalker find her? And can Abe protect Meadow from a man he doesn’t know? Pick up a copy of this super suspense novel sure to grab your attention and not let go until the end.
