Kingman Ranch #1
Charming a Texas Beast
Once upon a time in Texas . . . there was a ranch with a castle. In this castle lived a beast, a sleeping beauty, a big bad wolf, a Cinderella, and a lost prince. But these are no fairytale characters. These wild cowboys and cowgirls are about to raise some Texas hell on the way to their happily ever afters.
The Beauty: Growing up, Lily Daltry was the shy, introverted gardener’s daughter who had nothing in common with the five siblings who lived in the fairytale castle on Kingman Ranch. Especially Stetson, a bullying tormenter in a cowboy hat who enjoyed making her life miserable. Her only reprieve was spending time in the garden with her beloved mother. After her mother passes away, Lily leaves for England where she becomes a children’s book author and strives to get over her grief. But when her father gets injured, Lily must return to the Kingman Ranch and face the sad memories of her mother . . . and the bullying brute of her past. Stetson now runs the ranch and has no desire for Lily to be his guest. Can she tame the cowboy beast . . . or will she be devoured?
The Beast: The last thing Stetson Kingman needs is to stumble upon a bookish beauty from his past wandering the halls of Buckinghorse Palace. He has enough to worry about with four younger siblings, running a huge horse and cattle spread, and trying to figure out who has it out for the Kingmans and is sabotaging the ranch. Lily should’ve stayed in England where she belonged instead of dredging up the secret Stetson has kept buried deep inside. Just seeing her floods him with dark memories . . . and dammit, desire. When his two randy younger brothers get all cow-eyed over Lily, there’s nothing he can do but claim “first dibs” so they won’t get tangled up with a Daltry woman like their daddy did. Unfortunately, Stetson is the one who gets all tangled up. The fake kisses don’t feel so fake. The sweet caresses much more than a lie.
When the dark secret is revealed, and the saboteur deals a deadly blow, can Stetson and Lily put the past behind them in time to make their fairytale dreams come true? Or is a storybook ending impossible on the wild Texas prairie?

It was a good book, but lost a star for the storyline left undone. Not quite a cliffhanger, but close enough.

Enjoyed this one more than I thought. Lily and Stetson were perfect together. The writing was great. I love the banter between the family members. The romance was sweet.

It was okay.
But not finished, didn’t like not knowing what happened.
And not good enough to buy the next book.

Lily Daltry has returned to Cursed, Tx, a place she never seen herself coming back to. But her father needed her after he had a fall and she came to look after him. It also means she will be returning to the scene of the crime so to speak that had her running from town so many years ago after a very embarrassing graduation night. It was the wrong bed and the wrong Kingman she wanted to seduce. When she again has to go to the Kingman mansion to search out her father, she ends up in the wrong arms or is the right arms of a Kingman male. It’s the same arms from that embarrassing night, Stetson Kingman, known as King. The man she was always scared of as a little girl but would not let him intimidate her as a grown woman. She has come back as a successful writer and illustrator of a popular children's books. And with a few chosen words, the one thing that Lily thought he could not do to her again was make her cry, but she was wrong... And while Stetson is trying to fight his feelings for Lily, there is someone trying to harm the Kingman’s and he is trying to keep his family safe, Lily too from harm.
The chemistry that builds between Stetson and Lily made for an intriguing and fun read. I love how Lily would stand her ground with Stetson and fight her feelings, well at the same time they each could not keep of each other’s way. Putting them in situations that would fuel the fire that was passion and turning into a relationship and a future. This story has great family dynamics and its building to be a great series that Katie Lane loves to bring to her legion of fans. You will be wanting to get your hands on the next book in the series as quickly as she can get it to you.
Thank you, Katie Lane, for giving me the opportunity to read this wonderful delightful book filled with family, friendships and of course sizzling chemistry leading to a great HEA.

Adorable
Great story that makes you think about your youth and perception as a child in the land of gardens and fairies.

Absolutely loved this book. Stetson and Lily are so magnetic together, it made for the perfect read.
I absolutely loved everything about this story and how their love grew from tumultuous to everlasting. Katie Lane writes such a great love story and these characters feel so real. Plus, all the secondary characters helped to boost the story and make me wish all them had books right this minute to read!
I'd recommend this series for anyone who loves a good fairy tale re-telling with fantastic characters and a beautiful love story.

A fairy Beast and his flower
Katie Lane has done it again. She has created characters that you want to hug and punch. Lily comes home after 8 years to find the man she feared was not what she had thought when she left. With time and maturity they come to realize that there is more to their squabbling then antagonistic pranks. A fairy garden and and evil lurking can set the seen for a cowboy romance. I recommend this book to everyone who loves an awesome story. There is no wishywashyness to be had in this delightful tale of growing into love. I can’t wait for the next one.

I don't know why I took months to read this book. I definitely need to read the rest of this series because book 1 rolls over into book 2. This whole thing about the English garden planted and cared for by Lily's mother Gwen just took me by surprise and the stories Lily wrote made me want to sit down and write. And I do a lot of writing.
Fairy Prairie Poem
Toss a penny into the fountain and make a wish. Not a trace of hatefulness was left in the boy she had kissed. The gentle caresses and passion they’d shared by the fire, had been solely fueled by physical desire.
Stetson was rough beneath with a tender heart, but he felt like he had to be strong when he felt his feelings didn't belong. His heart swelled with emotions inside, he’d hidden his loneliness, but he no longer would have to hide.
Now………….and forever, it would hold their intimate kisses from this day forward of never-ending wishes.
Stetson didn’t want Lily to leave. He didn’t want her to leave now, especially on that plane tomorrow. He didn’t know what it meant; all he knew was the truth that his mind it would soothe that place in his heart where his love would never part.
A few more days didn’t sound like nearly enough time for what it would take for her to be mine.
A thank you kiss for the night. And one for the extra day, and for being Lily, would she run away.
“This feels familiar," he teased.
"It does, doesn’t it? But you weren’t nearly as nice about the last time you snuck out of this house.”
“Are you ashamed of liking me, Lily?”
“Of course not, that’s just plain silly.”
We’re both adults and if we want to spend time together, that’s nobody’s business if we make it forever.
Suddenly, all the things Stetson needed to get done that day wouldn't be all that important if they went astray.
Stetson walked around the garden and found Theo sitting there. Now his friendly smile he had once shared was now filled with a glare.
“I want to know your intentions, young man? With Lily you’ve made quite an impression.”
“I like Lily. I like her a lot. I want to date her and have asked he to stay.”
“What part of ‘I’m not getting on a horse’ don’t you understand”
“I’m not asking you to ride it by yourself of course.”
“Your fairies ride dragonflies.” That has to be scarier than riding a horse. Dragonflies help us overcome times of hardship, symbolizing change and regeneration. He had displaced anger……for someone else. It left him with his own alienation.
Awed by the beauty around her, Lily forgot about her fear. She’d been so busy hiding away in the garden she’d forgotten that 'God is always near.'
And there was Statson. They needed time together. Lily wanted to find out where their relationship was headed.
“So, Wolfe was right,” Adeline said
“You’ve you fallen in love with Lily?”
He wanted to deny it, but he couldn’t. He loved Lily. But she’s gone. Long gone.
She had run away and hidden in England. Running away had always been her strength. Why do you think she is keeping Stetson from being her friend?
Lily, you brought Gwen’s fairies to life - not just drawing them, but also by giving them human traits and personalities and problems a child can relate.
The exact words weren’t clear. And Lily realized they had never been. She’d just remembered the moments they’d shared. She put those feelings into stories called the Fairy Prairie. But now she realized her mother had only helped her fill in the tallgrass and sagebrush - becoming a sanctuary.
“I did write those stories - disguising fairy wings, stringing a long line of queens and kings!”
“If that is true, why are you leaving?” Stetson cares for you and I think you care for him too.”
We don’t need to forget the past, but we do need to live in the present. Now the question is, who do you want to spend this moment with?
“I have to tell him. I have to tell him I’m sorry. And I have to tell him I love him. Lily loved him. Stetson had been her everything.
“You didn’t go!”
“How could I leave when everyone I love is right here? I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said those hurtful things to someone as so dear!”
“I have all I need. But there is something I’d like you to clarify - was I included in that everyone; did I apply like a fairy prairie dragonfly?”
Because I love you too. I love you so much that when you left, I thought I was going to go crazy. Without you my world would be blue and hazy.
“Tell me story Lili.” A fairy story of course.”
The garden was a giant fairyland decorated in hundreds of lights twinkling in the Texas sky. The English rose garden and the dance floor set beneath the old oak trees causing the lanterns to sway, colored lights dancing among the leaves where the magical fairies play.
Maybe fairies were dancing in the trees tonight. Joining in the love that now brought two people together, to believe the world is filled with magic and that God has sent Stetson a special fairy to take him out of his dreary life into a place he can believe again.
The garden looks just like fairies would play there along the labyrinth hedge. I hope to see a lot of little fairies playing there today.

Lily Daltry & Stetson Kingman
Lily is back home to take care of her father after being gone from the ranch for 8 years. Her years spent with the Kingman family was filled with Stetson bullying her and it doesn't appear that things have changed.
Stetson immediately brings Lily to tears without knowing why she hasn't been around. He feels contrite and recognizes he's still being an ass after all these years. Wanting to keep his brothers away from Lily for their protection he tells them that he's interested in Lily which starts the matchmaking.
Both realize that the other isn't exactly what they remember. Although Lily's view of Stetson from back then held more weight. His view of her was not even about Lily, so his didn't make sense to still be an issue when he sees her when they are both adults.
Besides these two getting to know one another as they are now and the romance that goes along with that, there's the other story that appears is going to run throughout the series (at least it wasn't resolved here), where someone is up to no good on the Kingman ranch.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I loved that the main characters had history, that they were realistic, and that they had many obstacles to jump over. The story itself was intriguing and captivating, keeping my attention throughout the entire book. Very well written!
This is the first from this author that I've had the absolute pleasure of reading, and I certainly hope it isn't the last. If the rest of the series plays out anything like this, the first, it will be awesome!
Although there is one key component that hasn't been settled yet, I really don't feel like this is a cliffhanger per se, as the hero/heroine have reached their HEA. I am hoping that at some point in the series, the mystery will be solved, although I do have some thoughts on that lol.
Definitely worth the read! Loved it!

I really really enjoyed the bit of whimsical fairy elite st in this story.
Shy little Lilly has made a career for herself writing stories about lots of fairies on the prairies in Texas. However missed out on life hiding away in her grief of loosing her mom, she isolated herself in England and only came home to Texas after her dad broke his leg.
After many years away Lilly and Stetson who have an enemy to lover romantic kept me entertained along with all the family.
I loved the family dynamics and enjoyed the mystery of the bad man attacking the ranch.
I felt the end of the book was rather ruched, the car Chrissy was brushed over rather than explored which was a shame.
It was very disappointing that the story ended and that part was not mentioned, I hate loose ends and was left hanging on who any why.

Story line NOT FINISHED. I would have rated the book higher, but I do not like to read books that do not end. The person out to get the Kingmans will not be identified nor caught until a later book. This book was free, but I never would have read it if I had bothered to read the reviews first. I will do that from now on.
The book has the same plot as the old movie, Sabrina (1954). The daughter of the hired help comes back home and falls in love with the older brother and he with her. The flirty brother is interested, but the serious brother wins out. A very very old plot.
For some reason I do not like the cover. The muscles are just over blown. I know that Stetson is supposed to look like a beast, but to me it is overdone. I am aware that weight lifters do blow up like this, but not ranchers.
One and done with this series.

Charming a Texas Beast is a great story for the beginning of this new series. I am looking forward to each of these siblings getting their HEA story. This author has done such a great job with this story about a big family, an unusual town, a sexy hero, strong heroine and a great plot with some tears and much laughter. There are fun secondary characters that add so much to the flavor of the story. I enjoyed the story line and felt so bad for Stetson, he had carried such a burden for so long. When Lily comes back to town sparks fly and love blooms. I loved Stetson and Lily’s characters and Stetson’s siblings all bring such fun to the story line as well. I highly recommend Charming A Texas Beast.

This brilliant rom-com will keep you laughing out loud for sure. Lily Daltry is the shy introverted Gardner's daughter who after her mother passes goes to England to write books based on the fairy stories her mother told her. She returns to the Kingman ranch when her father is injured. She can not understand why Stetson Kingman, the oldest Kingman brother who runs the ranch, has it in for her. Will secrets be revealed, will Stetson be able to let go of his dislike for Lilly, and will he be able to find out who set his barn on fire and injured one of his employees? This fabulous story is full of humor, drama, danger, and steamy romance! It is set in a beautiful location in Texas. This author's work is fabulous and I would give it a 10 if I could.

This was okay, but not great. Stetson wasn't my favorite hero, mostly because he was pretty rude to Lily and was a bully when they were younger. He basically punishes her for her mom's sins and it just wasn't fair or nice, especially when that punishment continues when she returns as an adult. Things do get better in the end and they get their HEA/HFN.
The book does end in a way that doesn't give us a conclusion to the suspense part, which is utterly annoying. Yet another reason why this was mediocre since we're left hanging. If the suspense is going to be a big part of the plot, at least give us a decent conclusion so we're not left wondering and forced to read the next book to find out what happens.

Charming a Texas Beast
Charming a Texas Beast by Katie Lane is book one in Kingman Ranch series.
I love the story inside a story concept.
In this novel Stetson Kingman, the oldest sibling of five, meets the estranged gardeners daughter, Lily. She, lived in the cottage with her parents until seven years ago when cancer took her mom. She moved to England to the little village her mom grew up in and wrote a series in children's books. Her father breaks his leg & Lily flies back to Texas to take care of him until he's better. While she's back on the ranch she is attacked by the ranch's trouble maker which brings her & Stetson closer together. There are secrets that have been kept that are finally revealed.
Enjoy this story. Its the beginning of a great series!,

I give this book 3.5 ⭐️ It was a good and easy read. I’m always a sucker for ennemies to lovers romance so this book was right in my zone. The main characters were lovable and I could feel the chemistry in between them. The only thing I would change was the end. For me, it was a half done end to just wrap up thing. We are still on the dark about the biggest mystery (which would be because we will discover it a another book of the series but i prefer when the book change couple that the story is over in the other book). Also, it was fast and without real tie to everything. But still, I truly enjoyed reading the book and the end (even if for me it was lacking) was still a happy one.

Harlequin anyone?
I have read this same scenario in a half dozen harlequin romances when I was a teenager. Very tepid characters except for the Irish brogue speaking maid that was described as a sweet southern girl ...WTF.. I can't say it was the slightest bit romantic and frankly if an 18 yr old girl climbs into a man's bed...I wouldn't describe her as sweet and shy. UGH. Seriously, No! But yeah the daddy gardener , sweet little daughter, and the ranch boss. Done Dee Dee done Dee Dee done, done, done.

Charming a Texas Beast: Enemies to Lovers
This was a great story about two people who seriously disliked each other when they were young and realized later that there was actually true love behind all the arguing. It's a fast read but so nice to know that there's another book in this series that will hopefully answer questions left when you finish this book. Always a joy to read a story by Katie Lane.

A Fairy Tale
I enjoyed the bit of whimsy in this story. lily has made a career for herself writing stories about fairies on the prairie of Texas. There is a bully in the story that torments a shy and timid fairy named Poppy. After all these years maybe the shy fairy will find that she has no reason to be afraid of the bully when she learns that he has a secret that explains his actions.

A Beatle man to love
A young women very shy raised as an only child. A young man raised with brothers and sisters. He always picked on the young women and made her cry. Her parents worked for the mans family, He held the girls mother responsible for causing problems between his parents. Her mother and his mother both passed away. She came home to help her father after he broke his leg. Now, their a grown man and woman. Is that something special between them? Maybe love!

I didn't like that quite an important part of the story was left hanging. I know it will be solved in next book/books but it still disappointed.
Another thing I didn't enjoy about this book is more so a personal preference but I didn't like the fairy tale-esque writing style and represented world. I realize it had to do with an actual fairytale retellling, yet it just didn't sit right with the cowboy romance story.

I love this story! The characters seem very “real” and quite relatable. I enjoyed reading about the realizations Lily and Stet come to and how their childhoods, in retrospect, were different than they seemed.
I also really enjoy that little mystery this author weaves and I am sure will be teasing along through the rest of the series. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Kingman siblings’ stories.

You can’t help but love Stetson and Lily. The chemistry between them is really intense. Stetson comes across so gruff. In his defense he is carrying a heavy load. Lily is still struggling with the loss of her mom. If these two can get out of their own heads, they may discover their HEA. I look forward to next books in this series.

Great start to a new series!
This book was such a good start to Katie Lane’s new series! It has a predictable hea, with the exception of the fact we don’t wrap up all the questions, which just excites me for the next book! I’m a fan of several of Katie Lane’s books and this falls right in line with her other books I’ve read! Totally recommend!

Love Katie Lane
This is her new series about the Kingman family.
This book is about Stetson and Lily. While growing up Lily always thought Stetson was such a bully.
When her mom died, she went to England and wrote books about fairies based on stories her mom made up for her.
She comes back when her dad has an accident.
This book is a great beginning for her new series.

bully and a beast
Wow! Stetson was sure a lad in love that he showed by how much he picked on Lily. The story was quite entertaining and easy to read. It is easy to get caught up with the characters and feel like you are right beside them in the plot. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

i don't like cliffhangers, particularly if not forewarded (which I then don't read). This was a good story, but needed to reveal who was doing the bad stuff. Because I don't like cliffhangers, I won't read more by this author - even to find out (probably in next book) the identity of the villain. Otherwise, very much enjoyed the book.
