Sisters are like chubby thighs--they stick together!
The Guy sisters are ready to take their place as top-tier private investigators. The problem is, the only thing top-tier about their strip-mall agency is Octavia’s wardrobe…and the cases that come their way are less on the exciting side, and more on the eccentric side.
In book 2 of the TWO GUYS DETECTIVE AGENCY, the sisters struggle to relaunch the embattled strip mall P.I. agency Linda inherited while juggling personal demons. When they take on a client whose ex is blackmailing her with a sex tape, the case veers in a direction that tests the sisters' skills--and their commitment to their new occupation.
USA TODAY bestselling author Stephanie Bond was seven years deep into a systems engineering career and pursuing an MBA at night when an instructor remarked that she had a flair for writing and suggested that she submit to academic journals. But Stephanie, a voracious reader, was only interested in writing fiction–more specifically, romantic fiction.
Upon completing her master’s degree and with no formal training in writing (her undergraduate degree is in computer programming), she started writing a romance novel in her spare time. Two years later in 1995 she sold her first manuscript, a romantic comedy, to Harlequin Books.
In 1997, with ten sales under her belt to two publishers, Stephanie left her corporate job to write women’s romantic fiction full-time. In 2011,
Stephanie launched a self-publishing business. Since that time, she has sold more than 1 million copies of her own books. To-date, Stephanie has published over 70 novels and has over 6 million copies of her work in worldwide distribution in numerous languages and formats.
3.5 stars There was a large gap b/w the first book & this 2nd book of the series but the writer had a note at the end which stated she would continue writing new stories for these characters. I will definitely read them. There was more humor in this one. Interesting mystery. great characters. But it did leave off w/a bit of a cliffhanger. I do also get the sense that Bond is still writing this for a tv show (ala tv script/visual format) but that's ok. It's fairly short, draws you in after a few pages & is a quick, easy, light read.
I bought the first of these books in 2014, read it, waiting on the second book. It didn't materialize until 2022, so I read the first one again and happily moved to the "second helping." I enjoyed these greatly - simple, believable, a bit quirky, and an easy escape into other's lives. I've been reading some long, multilayered books with very complicated story lines, set in an unfamiliar environment. What a great escape these provided. They are quick reads, fast paced, and you can't help but cheer for two sisters who have finally found common ground. I hope the 3rd book comes much faster - yea, Stephanie Bond. Keep us connected with Linda and Susan (aka, Octavia) as they find their way forward!
Linda and Octavia Guy, sisters who are working together to salvage their lives, are back. After waiting six years for the second book in this series, I was delighted to read the continuing saga! And what a fun story it is. In spite of major differences between the sisters, they are managing to live together (in the house that is a disaster of unfinished projects) and determined to open their own PI business in the strip mall office of Linda's husband's PI office.
Their lives are still in an uproar from death (Linda) and criminal activities (Octavia) but they are struggling to move forward. From taking a PI class and the exam for licensing, to dealing with continuing struggles, to investigating personal mysteries, the action is non-stop. The characters (mostly the same as in the first book) are realistic and interesting. There is a level of hope and building confidence as they strive to figure out how to survive, and hopefully flourish!
This long awaited book was worth the wait! I was delighted to read the author plans to continue the series because I'm hooked! (Hopefully the wait will be short this time!) Even the struggles faced are laced with humor and hope. Be sure to read the books in order for your best enjoyment. Terrific series!
I read the 1st book so long ago, that I had forgotten most of it, so I reread it before I read Second Helping. Ms. Bond picks up where the first book ends, with the two wanna-be detectives setting out to take a private investigator class, having decided to open their own agency. Of course, that's what one does, when you have no job skills other than clipping coupons and winning sweepstakes (Linda), or spending money and looking gorgeous (Octavia). There is a lot going on to keep this series going for a while, at least 2 potential love interests for each sister, the mysterious disappearance of a case file that Linda's dead husband was working on, the conspiracy case involving Octavia's husband, and possibly a reunion with one or more of the Guy sisters' parents. I lo9k forward to the next book in the series--hopefully, sooner than 9 years.
Every Stephanie Bond book is beyond excellent!!! You never know where it is taking you until the end. That's why she writes such amazing books. This one left such a cliff hanger, I sure hope we get another "Two Guy detective agency Book 3" very soon. Please don't leave us hanging for another seven years! Like maybe the sequel next month???? Please!! You really need to read this book, it will take you on a great unique adventure!
When I read the first Two Guys book I enjoyed the characters and story looking forward to the next book. Waiting and waiting! Finally the wait has ended with Second Helping. The storybook took up right where it left off.( I must admit I reread the first book before reading this one. ) Sisters, Linda & Octavia have had life upheavals and are learning to accept them and move on. I look forward to the unraveling of Sullivan's sudden death and Foxtrot. Two Guys Detective Agency is going places and I'm along for the ride!!
Will there be a sequel to resolve the open mysteries??
I think that I could come to like Linda and Octavia. The jury is still out, but they are so different. Their approach to investigating is different, so far Octavia has a better record. It would be fun to see how well this gamble turns out for them.
The men are more questionable. They are sleazy or patronizing, even Grim, who isn't trying to be. However, he may be the best man of the ensemble.
I like the sisters' relationship evolving in each book. Mysteries are very low-key, but they wrap up well. Author requested feedback on typos or mis-spellings. Twice the word "piqued" is misused in the phrase "piqued her ears". The correct word is "peaked" in this context. "Piqued" would be more appropriate for similar situations, as in : Her interest piqued, she peaked her ears to hear more.
I really like this book, the characters and the first book, however, it’s more like one ongoing story with many plot lines not resolved at the end. I look forward to the next installment in the series to find out what happened but if it takes too long I’ll forget where the story left off. Had I known then I would have waited to start reading the series.
Fun book about two sisters, Linda and Octavia, who are trying to get their PI licenses. They take on small, free cases and hope to use those as references for their future business. I enjoyed the way they worked together and also had their second lives. Then we get an ending with cliffhangers! What the heck! I really hope there is another in this series!
This seems to be a deviation from the typical Bond books. A bit more subtle story line, but just as enjoyable. It still leaves plenty of interest for the next installment. Looking forward to it.
Not as good as the first book. Very slow beginning, started to get really fun and interesting right up to the cliffhanger ending. Can’t wait for next installment in 2030
Stephanie Bond does not disappoint with Two Guys Detective Agency. The characters are already comprised of twists and turns of personality. Definitely likeable folks. Get ready to experience a range of emotions. Can't wait for more!!
I really liked the first book seems like a while since I read it😊. The second book in the series was even better. Looking forward to the next one coming out soon. I really enjoy Stephanie Bond's books.
I can't say anything else but wow! So far this series is pretty good. I will be recommending this series to anyone who wants a feel good story about true fighters and survivors.
I really liked the book but it was such a long time since the first book that some review would have been nice. Wish the story was more complete since its a year between books.
After nine years, Second Helping is definitely worth the wait! I just wish the book is longer (i.e., 500+ pages). I could not put this reading down until I was done. Thank you for this gift! Is Book 3 in the works?
I read the first book so long ago it took a bit to recall and immerse into the story. Stephanie Bond writes solid books. If you’ve read the body movers, you’ll enjoy this series. Good characters and plenty of space to continue on the series.
I enjoyed these 2 books very much, but this second one left me hanging. I wish a bit more mystery would’ve been solved. Especially because who knows when the next one will come out.
