guess who's rereading (again) ^.^
-----------------------------------------
i've forgotten how good this is!!! esports was the first danmei genre i read and this is one of the best i've come across. it's soo funny, the characters are amazing and add sm to the humor and plot- and the action isn't lacking either!!! i love that it can also be serious when it comes to jc's revival in the gaming world and the npc plotlines(which were surprisingly poignant), it's like the perfect balance omds.

!!!!! so excited to reread this

4.25/5 🌟

I felt like it's been a long time since I last read an eSports danmei. This one has a great balance between the eSports and romance, though the eSports aspect was less focused in the professional competition but more on playing in the server. As a non-gamer who have read quite a few eSports novel, this is not as heavy on the technicalities as the other novels I've read, as non-gamer friendly as an eSports novel can be. The game is also in VR setting so it's a little unique.

Both MC and ML are the kind of characters I've always loved to read. Both of them are clever and has high EQ, both knew exactly what they want in their relationship so there's no unnecessary push or pull. The MC is the indifferent, cold type, has a sharp tongue when he opens his mouth but treats his family and friends very well. He's a definition of a kuudere, very calm and aloof on the outside, but very soft on the inside. He's very decisive and straightforward and I loved that even though he appeared distant, he never shy away from his feelings. He's also not dense. He pieced the tiny hints about ML's feelings for him on his own and even though he himself was not sure about his own feelings, he properly reflect on it instead of being in denial and avoiding the situation.

ML, on the other hand, is very pampering. Maybe it started as a way to convince the MC to sign a contract with him, but the way he indulge the MC smoothly became a habit for him. He's also very sharp and perceptive. He discover MC's real identity by himself with just few hints but not in a forced and unrealistic way. He analyzed it in a way that you can see how he came up with that conclusion. He also know what and what not to do and say in different situations. He's very considerate and attentive, just a few of the many things I love about him.

I also loved the couple's relationship dynamic, their banter and sweet moments, all their interactions are so fun to read. Reading this also made me laughed out loud a couple of times. I adore this novel so much. This also rekindle my love for eSports danmei or eSports novel in general.

English title: It's My Turn to Take The Stage to Fly (Novel Updates) | It's My Turn to Dominate (Translations)

Rating: 4.5 stars rounded down to 4

I really loved this story. It was so refreshing to read a gaming novel about people playing a MMORPG together rather than competitive e-sports, and it was surprisingly funny too. I can't tell you how many times I cracked up; it's been a while since I laughed so hard reading a book. The reason why I'm giving it only 4.5 stars is because I felt like the last 10-20 chapters read more like extra chapters, and the very last part of the story around the MC's identity becoming public and his return to the e-sports arena was very rushed. I would have preferred for the author to spend a bit more time on this, since I was really looking forward to his return to the normal world.

The premise of the story is pretty interesting. Our main character is Jiang Chen, a successful e-sports player in his time. Unfortunately, due to getting diagnosed with late stage cancer, he was forced to retire early and volunteered his body for a super secret cryofreeze research project. Fast forward 30 years when medical technology has advanced, and he's the first volunteer to awaken from the project. As part of the recovery process and also due to the secretive nature of the project, he can't leave the research institute. So what's an internet addicted youth to do all day? Play online games, of course.

It just so happens that the game he played competitively before, Wandering Dreams, has just released a VR version in beta, so he happily starts playing and runs into Fang Jingxing on his very first day. FJX, the most popular Wandering Dreams e-sports player of the current times and also the ML, just retired after winning 5 championships, so he's got plenty of time on his hands to explore the new VR version of the game. They get off to a rough start, but FJX is immediately very interested in Jiang Chen as a potential recruit for his e-sports team. Unfortunately JC isn't interested at all, and it takes a while before they manage to meet up in game again. Thus starts a hilarious story about our two aces happily playing a MMORPG and clearing difficult story quests together.

**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**

I absolutely loved the main character, Jiang Chen. He wants to try everything in the game. I'm sure the game devs really hate players like him who do all sorts of stupid tricks and finagle their way into shortcuts for the dungeons and story quests. This happens time and time again, like when JC is too impatient to listen to the gatekeeper cry in the first hidden quest and directly punches him off the roof to save time, or when he next beats up the Oracle and gets a much shorter list of ingredients to gather XP

Honestly all of the hidden dungeons and quests are discovered by him randomly doing things, like throwing shoes into the river out of frustration for his bad luck, or escaping the Young Miss's cage in the final boss fight in one of the dungeons to unlock a hidden story quest.

Along similar lines, both main characters are great at thinking out of the box. The other guild leaders and members learn so much about playing this game when watching the two aces in action. For example, JC discovers that you can cause significant damage by jumping on an enemy from high up and uses it to kill the final boss of one of the quests. Fang Jingxing figured out they can use fireworks to test for booby traps, and JC does something similar later with fireflies in a different quest. There were soooo many instances and it was a genuine pleasure reading about him playing the game.

In addition to these hilarious moments of gameplay, there was also plenty of amusement from the main characters getting caught in compromising situations and getting misunderstood. For example, FJX's friends mistakenly think he's about to confess to JC because he asked for a deserted spot with nice ambiance and bought fireworks. Little do they know, he is about to confess, but it's about his identity not his feelings, so of course they end up ruining the whole thing. The constant misunderstandings about the "love triangle" between the two main characters and Xie Chengyan, the MC's nephew and the ML's best friend, also cracked me up. I can't believe other players actually placed bets on who Jiang Chen would end up with and the losers had to run around the main city naked XP

Both of the top aces are smart outside of the game as well. Fang Jingxing figures out who JC is purely based on some small clues and Xie Chengyan's completely botched up PS'd photo (which was absolutely HILARIOUS btw. I cracked up so hard during this scene). And JC is also smart enough to realize FJX's feelings for him before he even confesses. There's something so satisfying when both main characters are smart and on the same wavelength consistently!

The romance is very straightforward. FJX realizes his feelings first, and when he openly confronts JC about his feelings, JC very logically analyzes his feelings and asks for more time until he decides to give FJX a try. Everything happened very easily without any drama (except for from the peanut gallery lol). I was super excited when they finally meet in person for the first time!

Here are some of my favorite comedic moments from the story:

Xie Chengyan thought Jiang Chen was a ghost when he saw him for the first time because their family had just come back from paying their respects to his grandmother at the cemetary

---------------------

The two aces completely ruined the first guild gathering in their server

On the grass next to them placed flower-shaped candles that were purchased from the shop, forming a row of large, flamboyantly bold cursive: Mercury Reflects Fate's First Guild Gathering.

Blazing Sky's guild leader said: "The two Aces still haven't arrived?"

Love Escapist said: "Should be soon."

The Person in the Mirror from the guild Ask Fate stood up: "How about this, I will first sing a song for you guys to warm up the venue."

The crowd applauded: "Okay!"

The Person in the Mirror cleared their throat: "The song I will be singing is called...... Oh fuck!"

The crowd said: "...This is a song?"

The Person in the Mirror didn't answer. They reached out a hand and pointed.

The crowd looked over in unison. They saw two familiar Aces charging out of the forest followed by a group of people behind them, at least 20.

The huge guilds: "......"

Oh fuck!

---------------------

Jiang Chen changes his mind about how getting older is good after seeing his friends who are now 30 years older than him

Jiang Chen followed him expressionlessly. After a while, he finally said: "Fang Jingxing."

Fang Jingxing turned to look back at him: "En?"

Jiang Chen said sincerely: "It's good to be young."

Fang Jingxing instantly laughed out loud: "Why are you suddenly saying this?"

Jiang Chen said: "No reason."

Just..... felt like saying it.

He looked at his friends group and deleted the "The times have changed but the people remain the same."

Changing them into six words: "Time is like a butcher's knife."

---------------------

Poor FJX getting rejected right he just realized his feelings haha

He looked at this League Adonis and suggested sincerely: "You have plenty of time right now and so many people like you. If you're free, go date someone. Don't always focus your attention on me. Other people might misunderstand."

Fang Jingxing: "......."

The guild leaders who just happened to walk within the vicinity: "......."

Tragic, too tragic.

White Dragonbone and the others looked at the gear they were wearing and felt like they were definitely going to run naked.

This was the first time the League Adonis, Captain Fang, fell in love. He didn't even experience the wonderfully sweet and sour feeling of having a secret crush before already getting stabbed with a knife.

---------------------

One of JC's friends has so many crazy conjectures about how JC could still be alive haha

Vice Director Tang blinked, internally exclaiming "holy crap," then whispered to the person beside him, "Wait, isn't Chenchen's whole family involved in the medical field?"

Du Feizhou affirmed, "They are."

Vice Director Tang finally took this matter seriously. "I get it now, it was in a movie I watched."

His voice grew even quieter. "Have you seen it? It's where they cut open the brain or keep just one brain, connect it with neurons or all sorts of random tubes, and keep it alive in a medical capsule. If it's that, then he's indeed still alive."

Du Feizhou's heart jolted and his back stiffened, mentally preparing himself.

"It’s My Turn to Take the Stage to Fly"

Jiang Chen

Jiang Chen

My first eSports danmei and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to understand all the eSports jargon because I'm not much of a gamer but I ended up enjoying this more than I expected to! A funny and light hearted read that was so satisfying I literally got goosebumps while reading LOL. Love me a good power couple with hidden identity thrown into the mix 10/10 🙌 even the side characters and side CP are really likable and entertaining too 😂

The premise was really good, and the beginning hooked me right away. Unfortunately, the author squandered most of the big reveals, and there's not much character development to speak of. A bit disappointing, but I did enjoy reading it.
