Realm Killer #2

Winds of Change

Rate this book
To do list: Escape Kur. Resolve relationship issues. Don’t die.

Chase thought being sentenced to a century in Kur would give him plenty of time to mull over his failures. Too bad he can’t sit around for a century. Because one of those failures—his ex, no less—has decided mass murder is a viable coping mechanism. And now, she’s calling herself Legion.

With a coven of witches at her back and a blood ritual set to supercharge her into full-blown demonic ascension. Stopping her is a nightmare wrapped in a death curse. Unfortunately for Chase, the only way out is through.

Step one: Flirt with a death goddess.
Step two: Survive the “encouragement” of her sadistic son.
Step three: Stop the woman who once held his heart—before she rips it out.

The clock is ticking, and if Chase fails, Legion ascends, the world burns, and he gets a one-way ticket to permanent residency in the afterlife.

No pressure.

C.L. Brown has created yet another epic fantasy story in The Realm Killer Series with Wind of Change. This story focuses on Chase Ambrose’s struggle to stop his possessed ex. Banished to Kur, Chase has to find a way to get out of the Afterlife Realm. He teams up with a one-armed cambion, Natalie, and a dark elf, Vesryn to make the trip back to real life. To gain access, Chase makes a deal with Goddess Ereshkigal. He has to give her 3 souls in 2 days, or she takes Natalie, Vesryn, and Chase back to the afterlife. When they arrive, Chase is greeted by Simon. Simon automatically voices his distrust of Natalie, blaming her for Chase’s imprisonment in Kur. After smoothing their distrust over, Chase goes to gain the assistance of Padia, an Amazon woman who happens to be holding a grudge against him. He gets thrown into a cage fight with her, and Padia exacts her revenge. With the group now assembled, they embark on the most dangerous mission they have ever faced.

It took me a minute to get in step with the book but once I did I enjoyed the new more responsible side of Chase. Meeting some new characters and getting a new version of one of the villains from the first story that now morphed into an ally took some getting used to.

There were sometimes where it felt like the action or the continued piling on of events was a bit much and I struggled to follow it in some areas. There was some rereading of parts for things to make sense.

Like the first book I felt some repetitiveness in one fight after another, but for the most part I felt that the characters were more cohesive and there was growth and changes by all.

Well, having read book one I can tell you that this is as good if not better. The action never lets up from start to finish. There are that many different beings in this book, too many to list. Couldn’t put it down, could read books like this all day long. Roll on book three. Highly recommended.

This is a gripping and thrilling continuation of this series and once again I found myself totally hooked and unable to put this down. In this fast paced and action packed instalment we find ourselves back with Chase as he tries to escape Kur, the Mesopotamian underworld. He makes a deal with the Goddess Ereshkigal for him and his friends to get back to the real world but if he fails then they will be dragged back to the afterlife forever! It’s a journey fraught with danger, drama, fighting, twists and turns and more then a few surprises and it was great to back in this world and on this adventure!

Wow! Just wow! Non stop action from word go! C L Brown is a new author to me but I am so glad I got this book. Amazing characters, original story, fantastic world build and tons of action! Honestly, this reminds me a lot of the action movies from the '70s, '80s, and '90s when movies were still great.

This is how you do action, adventure, and fantasy. It's been a pure pleasure to read this book. Now that I've started, all I want is more.

I love the snark, the banter, the playfulness, the whole shebang. Just an incredible book. Even though this is the second in the series, I never felt like I was left out of the story. I understood everything that was going on and was never lost.

Lots of twists and turns and a heap ton of surprises. I normally read mostly mysteries and thrillers but this book may have just converted me.

Wow! Just wow! I absolutely recommend this book.

This book left me confused and I never caught up. I’m assuming that this is because it’s not the first in the series. It could have been a different experience if I started with book 1. This was a goodreads giveaway so I did my best to keep at it. This is nonstop action that takes the reader all over this and other worlds. I had trouble catching onto the world building so the action sometimes eluded me. I suggest starting from the first book and going in order.

Chase is back and the story opens with a glimpse into his life at Kur. But of course he cannot stay there and ends up breaking out to go on a quest to stop Joy and her murder spree. But Chase is still Chase so queue the insanity, hilarious scenes and situations Chase will fight to defend or break all the rules for. Entertaining and so much fun to read. Learn more about this world setup and meet new exciting characters as Chase ends up forming his gang for his personal quest. Chase is a nut.

Book 2, the story resumes from book 1. The events from the previous book lights a fire in Chase to finish what he started, if he can. The writing is engaging and speaks to the readers with very mature content.
