I thought moving out of the city would help me live a quieter life, where I could spend my days drinking tea or tackling a puzzle. At the very least, the fresh air at Grandma’s house on the coast could help me forget the grief I shouldn’t have faced at 23.

If only I’d known about the consequences…

That one decision led me to three ridiculously hot neighbors, gave me a chance to finally travel the world, and saw me embroiled in magical forces more dangerous than I could imagine… a quieter life be damned.

My name is Ivy Cavendish and I should ask more questions before jumping through magic portals.

Oh my goodness! I have found a new favorite series. I enjoyed this one so much. I loved seeing Ivy journey through her grief and seeing how it truly made her stronger. I loved Ivy's relationship with her grandma. Hunter is just gorgeous. I loved the idea of the book. It just felt so new and fresh. The twists in the book were so good. They completely caught me by surprise. I can't wait for book two. I really can't recommend this book enough.

Cavendish is book one in The Cerulean Lazulum series by Elle Thrasher. This her debut novel. This book is recommended for 18+.
I was given this book as an ARC. These are my honest and true thoughts.

Hi, I’m Elle! I wrote this book, so I’m going to be a little biased, but let me tell you why you’ll love it.

💙 Fantasy-lite – It’s a quick read with some magic that isn’t difficult to dive into. With minimal world-building, you get a book that is perfect for a mid-week read, a palette cleanser between heavier fantasy novels, or just a fun read on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

💙 Banter – There’s loads of it and it will have you laughing out loud, I promise.

💙 Twists within twists – You won’t see them coming. You’ll reach a certain point and think you have it figured out, and then all of a sudden…. bam… curveball… :)

Cavendish is book one in a duology. The second book, Hawke, will be out later in 2022. In the meantime, I hope you love it. If you do, or if you think you’ve figured out the plot-twists before the end of the book, come visit my Instagram account and tell me all about it. @ellethrasherauthor

This was such a quick read for me. I absolutely loved the story, the things I wasn’t expecting. The absolute heartache, determination, and ferocity.

I’m highly anticipating book 2 and looking forward to where this story goes.

It was such a different tale that what I normally expect and I absolutely loved that.

✨Arc Review Cavendish✨
By Elle Thrasher

“My name is Ivy Cavendish and I should ask more questions before jumping through magical portals.”

𖧷When I read that line in the blurb, 1. I thought I knew where this book was going and 2. I knew I had to read it. I was only right about one of those things though! I definitely needed to read it but I definitely did not know where it was going. Even when you’re 40% through and you think you do, YOU DO NOT. If at any point in this book you think you know where it’s going… you’re wrong! Ok, maybe not but I was and it was so thrilling!

𖧷I read this book all on one gloriously lazy Sunday. If you’re a mood reader like me and you’re looking for that perfect book that draws you in quickly, keeps you interested & invested but doesn’t require major brain power or take a heavy emotional toll, this is it! As a fantasy reader this is what I like to call Fantasy Lite, similar to a lite beer, you get all the good tastes of magic without all of the calories of major world/magic system building so you can just sit back and enjoy! It’s a hard balance to find but Thrasher did it so well!

𖧷I loved the cast of Characters Elle created in this book as well. The introduction of three hot and mysterious neighbor men who conveniently need to do some handyman work at Ivy’s grandma’s house (two of whom are very flirtatious twins and the other who is the dark and broody type) was very fun and I couldn't help but giggle at Thrasher’s author’s note that this is not a reverse harem lol. Throw in a sassy best friend and witty grandma to all surround our stubborn, perhaps slightly nosey, but relatable leading lady & what’s not to love!?

𖧷This book takes what could have been a sweet romance about a woman who needs a change of scenery and time to heal and laces it with mystery, action, twists, betrayals and MAGIC! It was such a fun read and I truly cannot wait for the next one! You will not be disappointed here!

5/5 ✨
2.5/5 🌶-there is on page sex, I rate based on a scale from "none at all" to "grab the headboard" just for reference.

"Holy mother of sanity, magic was real."

4.5/5

This book is fast-paced and action-packed, with twists and turns round every corner. I really didn't know what to expect as the story unfolded.

I love how Elle portrays grief and mental health struggles, with the FMC, Ivy, having to navigate both whilst everything she has ever known is called into question. The emotions she experiences are raw and relatable - I just wanted to give Ivy a massive hug.

Ivy's journey from grief-stricken to "don't f*ck with me" made her a truly compelling FMC. And to top it off, some lines had me laughing out loud.

We've got:
- Mysterious and grumpy love interest
- Beautiful friendships
- Portals/teleportation/magic
- Found family
And so much more.

I can't wait for the next book!

I loved "Cavendish"!

This novel has a unique take on portal magic, legacies, mysteries, loss, and did I mention a hot morally grey male lead? The twins are hilarious and I want to have a beer with them, I adored Ivy's relationship with her Grandmother and best friend, Maya, and the twists and turns really pulled at my emotions throughout the entire thing.

Well done, Elle, on your debut novel! I can't wait to read the next in line - gimme more!

A fantastic debut by Elle Thrasher! Elle's my friend, so I may be biased, but I loved this story. It's original and fresh. The contemporary, fantasy setting worked well, and each character had a distinct voice. The pacing at the beginning was a tad slow, but it flew by once the story got going! I especially love the dynamic between Hunter and Ivy and thought Maya was written exceptionally well. The twists were handled expertly, and there were times that this story was quite sad.
I'm looking forward to Hawke.

This was a fantastic read! Very quick moving story, with an interesting plot, and twists and turns. I honestly could have read this in one sitting (if I didn't have any pesky obligations). The characters were likeable, and some relatively mysterious, with great chemistry between them. If you are a fan of fantasy reads and traveling, with a little bit of spice thrown in, I highly recommend this book. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Magic, check. Lovable characters, check. Fun, fast-paced plot, check. Swoonable love interest, check. This was a great quick read with twists later into the book, and I am very curious to see where it's all going! I loved the characters -- the twins were fantastic and Hunter was intriguing; I can't wait to get to know all of them better in book 2! I also loved the grandmother. Overall: fresh take on portal magic with a twist of beach read for good measure!

I did not know what I was getting myself into. I really enjoyed this book. I need something light and easy but at the same time with magic, and this one just delivered right on the spot. I somehow ignored that the blurb said it was a suspense romance, because I was surprised by everything that happened.

I didn't see the plot going the way it was, but it was lovely when it surprised me. I like the crew Ivy has been able to get along with, and I cannot wait to know more about them and their adventures. Definitely recommen this book, if you need something magical without breaking your brain, a cute romance that has some anguish, and a heroine that goes through grief and comes victorious, still being human (meaning is not a magical healing).

Really interesting debut book from Elle Thrasher! I thought the magical and travel aspects of the book were some of the strongest overall. The conflict happens a little late in the book but def grabs you once you’re in it. I think now that the base world is built, the next book will be even more intriguing!

Elle’s debut novel is finally out, and I couldn’t be more proud of her!
It takes a lot of dedication to write a novel, let alone a fantasy one. Creating a new universe, powers, twist and turns; Girl, your imagination amaze me.

It took me a while to get into the story, but the more you read, the more you understand what’s at stake and the whole story.
The characters were great. I would have loved a little more detail about their overall feelings and perceptions, sometimes it felt like it was really fast paced and skipping things a little. It might also be a ‘me problem’ being half awake while reading it and all.

There were aspect that reminded me of Percy Jackson, which I adored. The steam was there, the twist and turns too!

I have to say that I’m not a fan of fantasy romance, I never really cared for them. I can’t wrap up my head around the non realistic aspect of them, and much prefer contemporary romance (because falling in love with the CEO of the big corporate where you work as a low level assistant is so much more realistic 🙃).

I can’t wait to see where book two is going to take us.

"He leaned in close, whispering against my ear, his stubble grazing my cheek. 'I don't care if you go with him as long as you leave with me.'"

Cavendish is a great read. Ivy's grief over her boyfriend's disappearance was heartbreaking to read. Nevertheless, the twists were great and it was satisfying how everything played out. The love scene in this book was fairly short and not graphic. I know Hunter is a gorgeous hunk, but I'm not a big fan of his decisions and I'm not sure if they're redeemable in my opinion. I do have to admit that the revelation at the end left me confused on it's importance to the story; I guess I'll find out in the next book in the Cerulean series.  Funnily enough, wine is a prominent part of this story; I swear, Ivy Cavendish lives off of this stuff. There are also quite a few perky butts mentioned too and I find it kind of silly how these are the two things I remember the most about this book. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and am looking forwards to the next one in this series.

"I did not kill my boyfriend."

Ivy Cavendish's world turns upside down when her boyfriend dies. After moving in with her grandmother, Ivy meets the handsome men living next door. A burgeoning friendship takes a spectacular turn when Ivy sees a magical portal open seemingly out of thin air. What follows is an another chance at love, and an epic adventure.

Cavendish is such a ride! The story travels from heartbreak and grief to finding joy again, new romance, surprise reveals, and betrayal. Thrasher's FMCs are always my favorites. They're relatable, endearing, and so funny. Ivy is no different. Grayson and Bentley are the perfect side characters oozing wit and charm. My boy, Hunter. Dark, a little broody, a mysterious past...my kryptonite.

I enjoyed the multiple POVs, and the twists and turns that Thrasher wove into the plot. I love the portal concept, and the mystery behind it. The romance is great. Ivy is way braver than I would be in her situation. There's a confession that happens that would have had me running, but she leaned right in. More power to you, lady! The cliffhanger ending was perfect, and left me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book, Hawke!

"It hadn't been easy, more like bring dragged through hell ass-backward doused in lighter fluid, always one second from emotional combustion."

"He's trouble."
"Yeah, but the hot, sexy, good kind."

"I hate bad news. It usually means I have to wear a suit...Please tell me I don't have to wear suit."

"I don't care if you go with him as long as you leave with me."

💙 Cowboy, Take Me Away 💙

Alright. That’s misleading. There are no cowboys here, (maybe next time @ellethrasherauthor? Pretty please? With a cherry on top?) but that’s just about my only complaint about Cavendish.

You know that scene in Aladdin where they ride the magic carpet and see the whole world? You’re lying if you just said no. But anyways, this book… is like that scene. But with smüt. If that didn’t sell you, idk what else will.

The wit. The sarcasm. The banter. The portal-hopping world travel. The black-tie gala. There’s even a “good girl.” (Quick, someone go resuscitate @lb_the_author.)

Also it’s on sale right now for .99! GO BUY IT NOW. And then come talk to me about the twins when you’re done bc 😍

I am a little bummed because I wanted to like this book more than I actually did, based on others raving about it. It felt very young to me, in the writing style and content. I hard a hard time connecting to the characters. I also thought the dynamic between the group of main characters was weird because it was almost set up to be an RH with all the flirting but then she fell for the one dark and broody guy…while still continuing to flirt with the others. And they became fast friends without a lot of detail or sharing of their lives “on screen”.
It also felt a little rushed at times and confusing with the so-called “plot twists”. Betrayal! Just kidding. No really, betrayal! (Next page) NOPE.
And I saw her ex being alive from a mile away and then it felt like emotional whip-lash when he comes back and she immediately calls him boyfriend and abandons the dude she just slept with? That didn’t sit right with me for some reason.
I also feel like not much happened. Now that I’ve given myself a week to think about it, I don’t know if I could tell you what the overall plot was. There were almost too many complications with all the different families with the stones by the end to keep my interest. It just wasn’t for me.

I’m giving us three stars because normally I give one star for books I cannot finish and two stars if the overall book is bad and editing is bad. This one at least had decent editing and I will still probably read book 2 just to see how the story wraps up.

I hate to say it, but this was only an okay book. The plot was good and had a lot of potential, but the writing was not great. Too much fluff and repetitive descriptors. We know she has brown hair, we get that the twins have glasses/muscles, we know the friend is a person of colour, we don't need to be reminded of these things every time that person comes up in the book. It read a little young despite some of the spice. The story could have been flushed out so much more and been way more in depth, instead of the surface level that it was.

Will I read the other books in the series? Probably, because I liked the plot. I just hope the writing will have improved.

This book was such a clever and unique take on portal fantasy. Witty banter, lovable characters, twists and turns, betrayals, and genuine heartache. The examination of grief and the human condition is cleverly wrapped up in this fact paced fantasy story. Each scene reads with a breathless energy, sharp wit, and a subtle ache of regret and loss. The balance between light and dark is beautifully struck. I can't wait for the next installment!!!

Literally read this in one sitting, as in didn’t get up from my spot until it was done.

While it’s obviously an easy, quick read - there’s a lot going on in the story. I love the concept, it’s different from what I normally see/read. So intrigued by this portal magic! And I love the characters. Ivy’s relationship with her grandma and best friend are great, and I love the twins and Hunter.

This was fast paced and exciting, and I found some revelations to be truly unexpected so I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2 and continue this story!

If you are looking for a break from long epic stories and want a quick, fun read, look no further. I could not put this book down and finished it in a day!

If you love banter, you will love the twins, Bentley and Grayson. I certainly did. Ivy is cool, but she makes some questionable decisions in my opinion. I guess I’m getting less spontaneous in my old age. Haha. But I do love her willingness to jump into a situation with both feet and her resiliency.

I can’t wait for Hawke to come out to, I’m assuming, learn more about the magical history and see where all the twists and turns are leading.

If you’re looking for a book you can read in one sitting that is action packed, has hawt but adorable twins and involved portal jumping, this is your sign to pick up this book.

I really liked it! It was fun, a little too relatable (minus the fantastical stuff) and helped me to meet my monthly reading goal faster. It was also a book that dealt with grief nicely - a theme I’ve been getting with my recent reads. And it’s a reminder that even if we get what we want in the end, it’s doesn’t always turn out.

That was a quick read! I decided to buddy read this one with my friend and it was nice to read something different from what I'm used to. It was cute, it was fast, there was a good slow burn. It was a good palate cleanser from the heavy loaded books I usually read.

This was slightly out of my comfort zone as it was spicy but I was honestly expecting more smut than that. There was only one scene really.

I loved the twins and their shameless behaviour!

The book ended on a cliffhanger that will definitely have me pick up the next one.

A fun, quick read with an interesting plot. When starting this book I was told it was going to be a quick read and it was. The plot had a quick pace and was very easy to follow. A few twists and turns were thrown in, but nothing too unpredictable. The characters were like able, but could have been developed more thoroughly and fleshed out a bit more to avoid some cliche. Did I enjoy this read? Yes. Will I be reading the sequel? Yes.
