Tabitha Beauchamp's life takes an unexpected turn when her older sister elopes with an officer, leaving behind a heartbroken groom and a looming scandal. Despite being young and unprepared for married life, Tabitha agrees to marry Jonathan for their families' sake. Little did she know her bond with Jonathan would grow and she would soon find herself falling helplessly in love with him…
What will happen when her sister returns and threatens to undo everything?
Jonathan Cromwell sinks into despair when the woman he loves betrays him and runs off with another man. Marrying Cecilia's younger sister is no consolation, but the fear of a scandal is enough for him to make Tabitha his wife. When he notices his wife's unhappiness, he vows to do better by her, leading him to see her in a completely new light. However, when his first love re-enters his life, Jonathan finds himself torn between the woman he once loved and the one who has illuminated his heart and existence in a profound way…
Will he throw away everything he has built with Tabitha for a love that has expired, or will he finally devote his entire heart to a deserving woman?
Jonathan and Tabitha have to adjust to a life that neither of them expected. Tabitha still fears that he will never truly love her, and Jonathan carries guilt for taking away her freedom. These hurdles are intensified when Tabitha’s sister interferes in their marriage, making it harder to put the painful past behind them and move on towards a fulfilling future. Will Jonathan realise Tabitha is the face of true love and abandon the remains of a false one? Will their lives forever be tainted by how their relationship began, or can they finally look ahead and claim their own happily ever after?
"The Most Unpredicted Match" is a historical romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Bridget Barton was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas.
She has studied English Literature in college and after a brief passage in journalism as a newspaper writer, she stirred her career to what she always loved: becoming an author!
She has always been intrigued by rascals, vagabonds, dukes and rogues, so having the chance to write stories about them is a wish come true for her!
Bridget is married to her own prince charming and is the proud mother of two daughters (and three adorable kittens) and soon to be a grandma!
She is a hopeless romantic who devours romance literature and of course enjoys writing love stories of her own.
When she is not writing, Bridget is relaxing by cooking for her lovely husband, exercising and listening to soft music.
This is just a sad story, what I don't understand is why the author went this route. Throughout this whole story, a wonderful woman gives up her life for her family's honor, and Jonathan's family. Yet, her husband treats her with disrespect and dishonor's her by being seen about town with her sister, and helping her sister out financially. Tabitha is young and her only response is to go numb and stop eating. Her husband is blind to the fact that his wife knows everything, even after she gets sick. Tabitha's sister is the lowest form of life on this planet; one that uses and abuses others for their own personal satisfaction. The writing, characters and story are well written. It's just a very sad story.
This book really disappointed me because it was not believable. The banns would have been called for Jonathan and Cecilia Twice a month before the wedding. So obviously the banns couldn’t have been called for Tabitha making the marriage void. Then we have the very small thing called a maidservant for Tabitha and a valet for Jonny. No mention was made of settlements or anything related to a marriage. I know some will think I’m nitpicking but I have read numerous Regency novels and I expect the author to research and get it right. Since I stopped reading at 26% I must not enjoy this novel therefore I cannot recommend it to other readers.
Absolute GARBAGE. MMC emotionally cheats with the FMC’s sister for Half of the book — apparently this author thinks secretly going to her sister’s house AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN to comfort her, and give her money somehow ISN’T cheating? The whole village knew too. And then he didn’t grovel, just was like no, no I didn’t fuck he’s so it’s not cheating
This story is about the beautiful Beauchamp sisters and their love lives. Cecilia, the elder sister was narcissistic, vain and selfish. Tabitha was four years younger with a joyous, loving, compassionate personality and willing to sacrifice her own happiness for those she loved. Unfortunately, much of the book is consistent with the theme that no good deed goes unpunished. I loved Tabitha’s immediate acceptance by her husband’s family. However, Jonathan Cromwell was a disappointing hero who spent way too much time moping over the woman who betrayed him. The chemistry never seemed to quite get going between Jonathan and Tabitha.
Cecilia and Tabitha Beauchamp are two sisters that are as different as night and day. Cecilia is engaged to Jonathan Cromwell but elopes with an officer on the day of the wedding. Due to pressure from her father Tabitha agrees to marry Jonathan to minimize a family scandal.
It takes time for Tabitha and Jonathan to face their circumstances and each other but eventually fondness for each other begins to develop. Tabitha is only 17 when they marry but she is wise beyond her years and has a heart of gold. Jonathan can’t seem to get beyond the beauty of Cecilia and yearns for what could have been. Cecilia contacts Johnathan and he keeps this from his wife. Tabitha feels the change in their relationship and fears that he will never love her or be open to a true marriage.
This story had significant heartache, misplaced devotion, and misunderstandings. I always find it amusing that a beautiful face often hides someones true nature and what people see.
At times, I was disappointed in Jonathan’s inability to see Cecelia for the self-centered person she was and not recognizing the sweet person he was fortunate to be married to.
I highly recommend you read this love triangle between two sisters to see if Jonathan comes to his senses. The extended epilogue was extremely well written and demonstrates that family love is so important and forgiveness possible.
I received a complimentary advanced copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review.
An interesting story with the central focus being the decision of a very young, naive and immature lady to save the reputations of her sister, her family and her sister's betrothed, by marrying him in her stead, when the elder sister elopes with an officer. What possessed her parents to think this was a good idea underlines the fear they had of scandal, but sacrificing such a young girl is appalling. The elder sister is vain, arrogant and cruel. Her demands and the way she treats the younger sister should have been stopped when they were children. That it was not, gives a good idea of the weakness of the parents. I'm not sure if this was typical of this age, but I find such parents to be despicable. Why is a younger child not considered important? What follows is also awful, when Jonathon openly shows his heartbreak to his new wife. He takes way too long to even notice Tabitha is unhappy. What did they all expect! Cecilia's arrogance and greed in returning to Jonathon adds a new depth to her selfishness. Where is Cecelia's officer husband in all this? Is he, too, under her vicious spell? A study in how some families worked in this age gives this book interest, offset by Jonaathon's lovely family. I gave it 4 stars.
Not badly written, just a few errors here and there, and an interesting, but heartbreaking story.
Poor Tabitha treated badly by her sister Cecelia whose future husband Jonathan, so deeply in love with her, does nothing to stop her being unpleasant. In fact, he is blinded by his love and fails to realise what an unpleasant woman she is. Jilted almost at the altar, Jonathan is offered Tabitha as a replacement bride and is finally persuaded to marry her. Throughout most of this so-called romance, he wallows in self-pity and behaves appallingly to his 17 year old wife Tabitha. When Cecilia reappears, he convinces himself that he’s doing nothing wrong in helping her financially and escorting her shopping. Tabitha finds out via nasty gossips. That he finally sees sense, that Tabitha forgives him, does not redeem the man at all. He’s a villain not a hero. Do read as it’s a good but very sad story.
Sweet story that held my interest. Love gone wrong turns out right.
When Tabitha's sister slopes days before her wedding to Jonathon Tabitha agree to marry him to avoid scandal. She and Jonathon have become friends while he was courting her sister she hopes they will have an amicable relationship. However Jonathan can't get over his love for Cecelia and shuns Tabitha leaving her lonely and hurt. Just when things are improving in their relationship her sister interferes and causes their relationship to falter.
The relationships kept my interest and Jonathan's inability to see what was right in front of him was frustrating. Cecelia was truly a cruel person and her friends spiteful gossips. I enjoyed this and will read this author again.
This is a wonderful story full of forgiveness, patience, understanding and love. The extended epilogue gives an excellent opportunity to look into the beauty of love children can manage with their innocence. Beautiful story and definitely amazing characters. Absolutely a must read. I loved the beautiful but hard line of events. This is absolutely excellent written book. Congratulations!
His nightingale. Now this story is tangle with high emotions and drama. This is also a tale of two sister one so selfish and the other so giving. I felt so sorry for the hero caught between the past and the future. That said perhaps the gentleman did not see the jewel he had been given until it was almost too late? You wonder as you read this book if Jonathan will ever see that what he felt for Cecilia was as fake as she was. Very good story so very touching and I do like how it ended.
When your older sister elopes with someone else leaving her fiancé heartbroken and looming scandal, what should Tabitha do? She is secretly in love with the fiancé, Jonathan. Can she step in as his bride to stop the scandal? Could they make a marriage like this work? What should they do? I highly recommend this book. I loved the plot and the characters of Tabitha and Jonathan. I was gifted this book, but the review is my choice.
An interesting premise in this light historical romance story. Jonathan loves older sister Cecilia and is friendly with her younger sister Tabitha. Cecilia who has fooled everyone into thinking she’s as kind as she’s beautiful elopes the day before her wedding with another man. Tabitha volunteers to wed him to save their families and because she likes Jonathan. But can they make their marriage work especially if her sister returns?
Unfortunately, after my second read of this author, I have determined I am not really a fan. Nothing against her. Her books are just not my style. Hero - too much of a jerk; more of a spineless dummy. The heroine was waaaay too young to be thrown into that mess. And while I realize it was “her decision” to jump in it - “HER” parents should have protected her! Nope done.
Great story wonderful story line, great characters. How would you like to be seventeen, and ask to marry to save the honor of two families. Tabatha did, she married the man her sister was supposed to. And this is where Tabatha and Johnathan's story begins. Lots of tears, and heartache for them both, and a betrayal that will shatter Tabatha's would. Thank you ❤️
This was a truly delightful story about two sisters one who was selfish and the other who was not. The gentleman in this tale was clueless as to how devious and self centered the one sister could be. The writer did a great job of writing a story that held the readers interest.
Ms. Barton has a winner in this book! An older sister who only wants her way, and will have it even if it ruins her family. Elopes on eve of her marriage, younger sister sacrifices all to prevent scandal! A very interesting book of love, betrayal, sacrifice, and a happy ending. Couldn’t ask for anything more!
This book is an amazing read. Tabitha and Jonathan were meant for each other. Cecelia was a thorn in just about everyone's sides and I loved the way she got her just desserts. I felt sorry for Tabitha throughout most of the book. The way that Bridget Barton wrote this book was amazing. I can't believe the way that she showed Tabitha's inner strength. A definite MUST READ.
Tabitha marries Jonathan the man betrothed to her sister after her sister left and married another to avoid scandal but he continued to pine for her sister There are twists and turns but love grows the characters are kind and forgivingThe story is complete with happiness and family togetherness
The older always wants more. The younger sacrifices all for family, a friend, and the hope of love. She marries before she even has a chance at life to save all from the scandal the older causes. Highly recommended for all readers. A very good story.
Her older sister always got her way. Their entire lives revolved around. When big sister runs off right before her wedding she leaves behind a huge mess and potential scandal. To try to save face, baby sister is swapped in as the bride. What kind of life will it be between the heartbroken jilted groom and the substitute bride?
Jonathan and Tabitha The story had love and mystery with some serious difficulties all mixed together. There are misunderstandings, family issues, exes and incomplete truths with some serious difficulties all mixed together.
I enjoyed reading this book and found that both the story line and characters gelled well together. It was interesting to say that everything flowed well.
all the bases. Story told by showing conversations between characters. Characters grow and change for the better. Reasonable growth of characters,no overnight sensations.
In all honesty, I couldn’t wait until I finished with this book, and not in a good way. I almost set it aside several times during Jonathan’s overdone self-pity rants. He wallowed in it, throughout the story. Jonathan is a dunce. So, back to the plot—Jonathan and Cecilia are set to marry. The day before the wedding, Cecilia elopes with another man. Of course, Jonathan is heartbroken, that is understandable. In the midst of his turmoil, he agrees to marry Tabitha, Cecilia’s younger sister, to avoid scandal. Tabitha does her best to heal Jonathan’s heart. She is everything Cecilia is not, including a good person. But Jonathan is stuck throughout most of the story on losing what he considered the love of his life. He also feels guilty for marrying Tabitha. He couldn’t see, or didn’t want to see, Cecilia’s true nature nor could he see what was right in front of him. The story is flat, there is no spark in it, it is a chore to get through to the end. The characters were mostly unlikeable and boring. I have read other books by Bridget Barton that I liked. However, this story had potential but fell far short and missed the mark by a very wide margin.
