He’s older than me. A textbook alpha. And this crush is so wrong it’s literally against the rules.
Mr. Reynolds is nothing like the guys my age. Older, bigger, much more powerful. He makes my knees quiver just by shaking my hand. He’s also off limits. Mr. Reynolds is my father’s boss, and the company has a very strict policy on relationships. My father would go mad if he knew. Which is why he won’t. It’s not like Mr. Reynolds has any interest in me. This week-long getaway for his employees and their families will be a breeze. He won’t even look twice my way. It’s only a week. Neither he or Dad will ever know.
June 2022: Newly edited revision
Forbidden Curves is a series of standalone short romances, always starring a burly older man and plus-sized heroine.
Erin Havoc writes short, steamy romance with no cliffhangers, no cheating and a guaranteed HEA! Her heroines are always curvy and she writes contemporary, dark, and shifter romance.
Who’s her father’s boss and has a loooot of money…
Catalina’s (21) accompanied her abusive father to his boss’s house for work. She’s been attending college and wants to become a vet, but that doesn’t take away from the crush she’s had on Mr. Reynolds, aka Justin 👀.
Justin’s (about 30 years older, so 49 ish?) wanted Catalina for a while. He’s always looking forward to seeing her curvy and smeeexy body 👀. When he takes her horseback riding, he knows he can’t keep holding himself back.
And when she pretends to go use the restroom and “stumbles” into his office, things heat up 🔥 and he shows her just how much her pleasure means to him 👀.
What I liked: —Justin’s obsession with giving Catalina pl€asure. This man will make sure she gets there MANY times before he does 😉 using any body part necessary 🥵. He needs to prep her cause he’s a big guy 💁🏻♀️
—how much he loves her curves ❤️
—how protective he is🥹. Don’t nobody be hurting his woman 💅 he’s a marshmallow only for her 🥰 anyone that hurts her though 😑🤬 🔪
—just because you donated sp€Rm doesn’t make you a father… and Julian let’s us know that 👏🏻
—he’s allll about her. He’s been crushing on her just as long as she’s been crushing on him 👀
—her career took off. We don’t see it since it’s mentioned in the epilogue, but I like that we know she didn’t stop going to school or getting a career cause she fell in love ❤️👏🏻
What I needed more of: —length. It makes a difference here because both of them wanted each other. It would’ve been nice if we had seen that. It’s not technically Insta love but it definitely feels like it because of this
—what happened to her father? We don’t know 🤷🏻♀️
—lack of safety talk. In the 21st century, this should not be something that’s not even mentioned 😬
Overall, this was a nice palate cleanser and I enjoyed it.
⚠️ safety squad ⚠️ -no cheating/sharing/owd/omd -abusive father/slaps/slut shaming -violence -hand necklace/spanking/biting -virgin h -no condoms mentioned/STDs or pregnancy 😐/in the epilogue, she mentions removing her IUD -HEA/epilogue 5 years later
It gets a little dark with Catalina's (Cat) controlling and abusive father. Setting him aside, I like the chemistry with Cat and Julian. He fights his attraction as he is much older than Cat but when she shows up at his door looking at him like she does... well, a person can only be expected to have so much self-control, right? 🔥💚🎉 It's over the top but it's also a steamy ride with a sweet conclusion.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The writing isn’t done well. The mistakes that were made and the incorrect terms for things make me think the author isn’t a native English speaker. There’s nothing wrong with that but when that happens you have to be sure you get a good editor. If this was edited at all, the author should probably ask for her money back.
The story was okay but also left some things hanging and a few loose ends. The conversations were painfully awkward and the steamy scenes just came off weird.
The story had potential so I think if the author did a total rewrite it could be good.
I have to say that it's been a while for me to read Erin's series since the shifter-dating-app series, but this book was as good as that series. Although it didn't involve one-true-mate-for-life, it might as well be it. The H was as alpha as he could be since he was older, wiser, and definitely had more power and money to boot. Our h was a sweet and caring soul but under the oppression of her dad behind closed doors. They met in a family retreat held by the H's company with H being the CEO and h's dad being the company's lawyer (head of law dept or something). Apparently, h had a crush for some time since she saw him from afar before but never got the chance to talk to him because her dad wanted her to be seen but not heard. But, after one look on our h, the H got hooked for life. And so it began the inner struggle.
The story was kinda sweet. The inner struggle that both MCs had was creating quite a spice in the plot, though I had to say that there's some loose end in the plot. But, the overall plot was aiming for a sweet age-gap romance. Too short actually.
Virgin h Age gap romance (about 30 yrs age gap; h 21 y.o) Dual PoV, 1st person CEO H, vet students h Possible trigger: domestic (physical) abuse by dad Bit drama with dad No cheating, No OW/OM HEA, epilogue (marriage) Overall score: 3.5 age gap romance stars
Really confused at the positive stars on this, both as a singular novella and as a series. For a number of reasons.
--Typos: god awful ones. Complete vocabulary swaps, strange vernacular, incorrect sentence structure. There's alotta' it. --There is nothing alpha about this guy. More like burly teddy bear. Not that that's a bad thing, but I mean, if your title is THAT off, what else is? A lot. --No love or even lust story. It's just a weird, love potion number nine type of story. The chemistry is all in the reader's head. --The two I read (Alpha & Hunk) both used physical violence towards the main heroine as a plot device to push how 'manly and aggressive' the hero is. It's poorly executed, and is truly comparatively formulaic. The author just wanted a reason to bolster the 'next' interaction and it's totally flat violence for violence's sake. --Both read times were around the 45 minute marker. Kinda' fast for any soul-deep connections to be written successfully, but I've read a few short stories that were more believable romances than either of these were. --Boring characters. The most interesting things about these characters were that they weren't white, but not anything else about them. It just felt like boxes were getting checked, not personalities coming to life.
Just disappointing. Some of these abstract KU series sneak in there and either negatively rob you of your time or tickle your bemusement--I think this was just the former.
Julian Reynolds wanted to offer a week-long team building experience at his ranch, inviting his employees and their family. Catalina’s father is one of the employees and demanded that his daughter attend to make an impression. She was not permitted to bring her college books and notes along to study. But she was also to remain silent. The ride there itself was frightening, as her father’s driving was dangerous. If she complained, he would have punched her face immediately as he had done before. So she had to sit and listen quietly as he criticized his boss. She had met him twice in the past and still could not remember him being evil as her father described him. She still had a bit of a crush on him. And as she struggled to wheel her suitcase over the gravel from the car, suddenly it is lifted away and Mr. Reynolds offers his hand to greet her.
She feels the instant attraction to Mr. Reynolds reignite from that first touch of his hand. Julian is surprised at his own reaction. Although he tries to avoid her, she is always in his sight and he doesn’t want to stop. If he starts something with Catalina, how will her controlling father react? Does Julian want something more permanent with her? Can he protect her from the violence she may soon be facing from her vicious father?
One unnecessary scene that does not fit well is that Julian knows Catalina is a virgin, and he has seen indications of her father's abuse, and yet for her first time, he SPANKS the abused young woman. What a grand way to be introduced to something that could have been bonding and special. Very inappropriate move, Mr. Reynolds.
Age gap and Julian falls for Catalina...cute read...however this is the 2nd book I've read by this author where the heroine has been physically, mentally and emotionally abused. I hope this is not a running theme ...

Too much, too soon & not enough bones to hold this story up!
If your writing a short story you truly have to invest in your characters and the story to grab your readers! Sadly neither of those things happened. Add in physical abuse, Insta love and I do mean insta! The main couple spoke to each other one handful of times then bam 2nd kisses and the I love you'd are thrown out. You can't depend on sex to fill your pages and get people reading and following your writing. Errors in the book format meaning one whole chapter is repeated, equal a really bad short read! Zero stars imo! Kudos to the author for following her dream just not for me!
She is a temptation that he just can't resist....even as he fights hard
BIG BURLY ALPHA is the first book in the new Forbidden Curves series and I really enjoyed it. The story is about Catalina Diaz and Julian Reynolds. Catalina is twenty-one years old and majoring in veterinary science. What she wants to do is open her own veterinary practice but that future is put in jeopardy by her overly aggressive and abusive father. Her father is a lawyer for the company which Julian owns. Julian is approaching fifty, never married and dedicated to his company. When he invites the executives and their families to his estate several hours drive away for a week of team building and to work out issues, Catalina is dragged along by her father. She may have finals for the semester coming up but as he does not approve of her studies he has no issues with making her leave her books behind so she cannot lock herself away to study. The only bright spot for Catalina is meeting Mr. Reynolds again. What she is not aware of is just how much he wants to see her again also.....and just how much of a temptation she becomes for him. This week will end up being a rollercoaster ride of want, desire, emotion, lust, temptation and love for both Cat and Julian.
I enjoyed this story and the characters. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
It wasn't bad but there are clearly a few mistakes. For one, Cat mentiones having met him a couple of times, and yet when we get to his point of view it seems like he's only noticed her this week. There is also the part where he devours her, the beginning makes it seem like there are no panties in the way but a few lines after and there are.
The writing itself wasn't bad, I just wish maybe there was more to it? For instance, there wasn't enough tension between them, or stolen glances that would have her father putting two and two together. In fact, there didn't seem to be much between them at all, other than her inner thoughts about finding him attractive and all the insecurities about how a man like him wouldn't want her, etc.
My last thing is the age difference... I don't mind older guys and all but he's 50 (or in his 50s at least) and it's just a bit... well she's half his age or more. I mean the only good thing is she didn't call him Daddy.
I also wish Julian had seen her father hitting her at his place instead of them leaving and him showing up later at her place. I mean it was still ok and all but I wanted more I guess? In any case, he still did save her so I guess that's what counts

Catalina lives with her dad who is verbally and sometimes physically abusive. She is going to college to study vetinary medicine, a choice her dad constantly puts her down for. Her father is a lawyer who works for a corporation owned by Mr. Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds is holding a company getaway at his mansion to rebuild relationships among his team after some drama happened. Employees are expected to bring their kids so Catalina is dragged there by her dad. He repeatedly tells her to behave and to seen and not heard. Catalina just wishes the weekend was over since she has a big crush on Mr. Reynolds. She knows he would never notice a girl like her but she learns that she is wrong. Mr. Reynold's is very attracted to her and would like to be closer to her even though it is against company rules.
Julian lives for his work or at least he did until he meet one of his employees daughters, Catalina. Just looking at her makes him want to drag her to his bed but he knows it goes against all company rules. However he can't ignore Catalina's temptation. I’m excited about Erin Havoc’s new series about big and burly men. Not every man is toned and slim but that doesn’t men women aren’t attracted to them! I can’t wait to see what characters Erin develops and makes her readers fall in love with!
For this book it was Julian, and trust me, you are going to love him. As the owner of his own company but with grumpy loner tendencies, he doesn’t see his HEA coming. A work retreat for his employees and their families brings the beautiful and curvy Catalina right to his door. He is instantly taken with her smile and quickly becomes obsessed. Little does he know that she’s drawn to him just as much.
Catalina has a lot going on in her life. A less than caring father, college classes, and the hope of her own HEA. The minute she meets the big and burly Julian, she wants to be his! Finding her confidence to make the first move open the door to love, steam, and a beautiful ending. This book is a great read and I highly recommend lovers of steamy romances should check it out!.

I feel like this story had a ton of potential, but I struggled with the execution. It read like fan fiction to me. I highlighted a few of the specific red flags that turned me off and will be adding notes. I know it's fiction but there were a ton of holes and behaviors that were so random.
21-Year-old Catalina is forced by her abusive dad to attend an employee retreat, right from the jump he makes incredibly toxic comments and it's stated he hits her. While I HATED this man and the author's choice to put our girl in a family domestic abuse scenario, I went with it and sadly for me it didn't work out.
With that said, I think this would be a good read for someone who isn't super analytical or is just dipping their toes into taboo erotic shorts. I think I am personally just a jaded bitch.
I don't think this was a bad story, I would recommend it for someone looking for the tropes I listed above.
This story was a bit harder for me to rate. I decided that I did like it even though there was physical abuse and mention of previous physical abuse. It was entertaining and enjoyable for the most part. The characters were mostly interesting and likable. There was a sizable age gap that Julian (Mr. Reynolds) felt was too much for Catalina to be interested in him. Catalina was attracted to Julian and had been for quite some time. After a couple of brief interactions, Catalina decides to confront Julian about his feelings. Everything seems to be working out but then the drama and angst happen making things stop. Julian was wonderful. His defense of Catalina was awesome. I loved their happily ever after. I recommend reading this book.

Cat's father wants her to come to this work thing his boss is hosting for a week. He gives her rules for her while she is there so Cat isn't sure that she'll like it much. However, when she meets Julian everything changes. Julian is her father's boss and he help carry her thinsg to her room. When anyone would ask her questions, Cat reluctantly answers while glancing at her father. Sparks fly between her, and Julian and she tries to fight it but soon they both give in. When her father catches her going back to her room things take a bad turn for Cat. Will Julian be able to help her? Can they be together?
This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I enjoyed this short romance story with all of the characters. The two main characters were Catalina and Mr. Julian Reynolds.
Catalina is a young lady that is studying to be a veterinarian. Catalina father's boss is hosting a retreat/ team building at his ranch and her father is taken her along. When she gets to the ranch she surprised by what she see.
Mr Julian Reynolds is hosting a retreat/ team building at his ranch house. He has ask that the people that work for him also bring their family along to. He is surprised by his reaction that the young woman that came with one of his employees.
This was a fun short read. It was quite steamy. It was a little hard to read when Catalina father is mean to her.

Big Burly Alpha is the first short story in Erin Havoc’s Forbidden Curves series. In this age-gap romantic series, Ms. Havoc introduces her readers to an older burly male and a younger beautiful and curve female. In this book, readers witness the romance between Julian Reynolds and Catalina Diaz. She is a veterinary student, and he is her father’s boss. There is a mutual attraction between them. A possible relationship would be perceived as “forbidden” because her father works for him and the big age gap. Will they toss caution to the wind and pursue their happiness? You must read this book to ascertain what happens.
Ms. Havoc penned another delightful instant-love romance. Her plot line follows the romantic journey of the two lead characters. I thought it was clever that Ms. Havoc uses misunderstandings to move her plot along. I appreciate her mastery of conversational and internal dialog reveals each character’s backstory. Great job, Ms. Havoc!
Catalina’s dad works for a man named Mr. Reynolds. Her dad is not a nice dude. He’s a misogynist, physically abusive and doesn’t support Catalina’s dreams or goals at all. Together they go to a work retreat held by Mr. Reynolds at his cabin. He tells her to sit down and shut up. Be seen and not heard.
Julian Reynolds is a very large guy. Big and bearded, he looks like he could heft a tree trunk onto his shoulder or swing an ax. Into his retreat walks Catalina. She’s dark haired, ivory skinned and has curves for days. He is taken with her right away. Only problem is that she’s his employee’s daughter. And he’s twice her age. Pretty sure that’s not going to stop anything though.
This short age-gap story is full of curvy girl love and a bearded white knight type who saves her from an abusive situation. It’s sweet and spicy all at the same time. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
Age is just a number! This is about Julian and Catalina. Julian is Catalina’s father’s boss/employer. Catalina is young but in college, so when she is dragged there by her father as he is interested in making an impression, she is forewarned to be seen and NOT heard! There is abuse in this as her father knows how to intimidate this young lady; however, once Julian catches an eye to things that are happening, well let’s just say things get ugly. This is a quick read but direct to the point that counts, the love at first sight between Julian and Catalina….. I loved Julian and Catalina and their instant chemistry. Catalina's dad works for Julian, and due to a recent problem at the job, Julian thought it would be nice to have a getaway for all the employees and their families. Catalina's dad brings her along but expects her to only been seen and not heard (he's a complete jerk). She's definitely seen alright, by Julian, and he loves everything he sees despite the age gap. This sets off a fast-pace chain of events that changes both of their lives forever. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. Julian wanted to try to get things back on track for his employees. Catalina is drug along to the ranch by her abusive father. She and Julian have a connection that all of their differences cannot change. Her father creates the most conflict, tension and anger. Julian wants to protect, care for and love her. The story is a super short, ott, age gap romance. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is really well developed and is detailed like a much longer story. Great quick sexy read. 21 year old Catalina is controlled and abused by her father. He makes her go to the employee retreat at his employers home. She's been crushing on Mr. Reynolds for some time. Julian is completely captivated by her but knows he should stay away, but the attraction between them cannot be denied. When her father finds out, can their love be saved?. This was a good story. I liked both Julian and Catalina. I felt for Catalina and the life she had to live with her abusive father. Julian tried to avoid her but his pull to her was just too strong. Author really needs to get a good editor. The are tons of mistakes throughout that are very distracting.
Safety and Spoilers Completely safe. No ow/om drama. Nothing is mentioned about the H’s past and the h is a virgin. h’s father is both verbally and physically abusive. Towards the end h does hit her.
Pretty good for like a short story but there were a few errors which is why I only gave it 4 stars. Such as in part it’s clearly started he is shirtless then a like two paragraphs later suddenly he is ripping his shirt off. But overall not to bad.
Honestly if u looking for a quick steamy romance I would recommend this but I just not a big fan of like short stories like this.. quick read sure but I guess I’m always seeing the potential that’s there to turn this into a longer story. That’s just me tho
The connection between these two was a strong one, I liked seeing them come together. I was surprised by one aspect of the story and would have liked more closure to do with it personally. The story held my interest, had some angst, violence and family issues to it, and it showed that nothing was going to keep them apart. Erin knows how to give the girlies what they need. Something quick smutty and cute!! Julian is Cat’s dads boss who is hot older and rich! He tries to fit his attraction for her on the weeklong get away but his desire for her curves takes over. Cat finally does something naughty and gets rewarded handsomely for it! Enjoyed it!

After a scandal between Finances and PR, the boss, Mr. Reynolds, came up with a week-long getaway at his ranch in order to improve the relationship between the departments. Employees and their children are attending, including Santiago Diaz and his 21-year-old daughter Catalina. This story has moments of parental abuse including slapping and verbal, romance, steam, and ending in a HEA. Highly recommended.
Interesting read. Catalina has been controlled by her father forever. He is abusive and very demeaning to her. He forces her on his work retreat, not knowing that this will lead her to Julian who is his boss. The pull and chemistry between these two is fire, even with the age gap. Lots of emotion, minimal action and some drama at the end. Good, quick read. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
