Having easily thwarted the Eastern Empire’s invasion, Rimuru wishes to end the conflict once and for all and therefore heads for the imperial capital to take out the source. Meanwhile, Yuuki has worked his way up the Empire’s hierarchy with the intention of staging a coup and usurping the throne. It doesn’t take long for Rimuru to learn that the Empire’s true power is on a whole different level compared to what he’s seen so far… And it turns out he isn’t the only ruler with a dragon at his side!
4/5 We’re still in the Eastern Empire Arc here. Volume 12 introduced us the Inglesia Empire and the 3 Primal Demons. It sets the stage for volume 13. In 13 the Empire attacks the city of Rimiru and is thwarted quite heartily. In this volume(14) our cast plans to take the fight to the Empire and the tables are turned once again.
The dragons take a much larger part in this volume. Particularly Velgrynd, Veldora’s sister who is allied with the empire. It’s fun to see them take stage after these atomic bombs have been sitting in the background for 14 volumes. Veldora finally gets to go all out.
There’s a lot of intrigue as well with Yuuki and his machinations behind the scenes. Some of this does feel a little long winded though. Though I’ve still be thoroughly enjoying the series.
So 2 seasons of the anime takes us to about volume 6 so I have little faith the anime will reach this point. There’s at least another seasons worth of material just to reach this arc maybe 2. So I’ll be surprised if we get to see this animated.
I feel like so often that is the headline for a slime review but here I am again. The ending of these novels always leaves me speechless... I wish I could buy the next volume and receive it expedited into my Kindle but alas I will have to wait. That's all from me.
Rimiru won a battle, but the war is not over. Rewarding his commanders comes first, and then he needs to deal with the Emperor. Things do not go as planned, not for Rimuru, nor for most other players in the intrigue of the Empire.
To be perfectly honest, I found the book better then volume 13, but only marginally so. It is good that Rimuru finally has to struggle a bit. I feel that stories like this need a problem to overcome to remain interesting. We also get some reasonable explanations on what is going on and why things happen as they happened in volume 13.
On the other hand, there was a lot of talking which could have been resolved with much less pages, and there was a lot of switching points of view all to drag out the reveal. Now, this is nothing new to the series, but it still irritates me every time it happens. Add in (something I personally really dislike) to move the plot forward and it resulted in me struggling a bit to finish the book.
In the end I did finish, but I am seriously considering dropping the series. I cannot say the last volumes were much of a pleasure to read.
Probably my favourite volume up until now. Massive spoilers (as always), but Velgrynd's character is really well fleshed out (already!) and her (for once??) being an antagonistic force to Rimuru and actually forcing a loss on the latter allowed for more development of Rimuru's more human emotions too, I felt. (ie. anger/pissed off). Granted, the Emperor himself is dislikable but this is obviously a ploy to turn the reader against him for his redemption in later volumes (spoilers - Michael stuff etc.)
Veldora being "gone" for now is obviously sad, but we all know that this isn't that sort of series, so I look forward to seeing Rimuru rescue his Tsundere storm dragon princess next volume.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Still, everything moves along too fast. Stuff that should take three volumes of length happens in under one volume! This is so annoying to read. The characters are still fun and there are still cool moments that keep me going. And there's nothing extremely bad about it so I can't get myself to rate it lower. I don't know about the individual volumes but as a series so far this has fallen to the level of mediocrity.
Quite a fast-paced calm before the storm and very slice-of-lifey.
These books do a really good job of exposing characters on all sides of conflicts and their inner feelings, which is both great and leads to the plot proceeding kinda slowly... 😋
Do you remember when the series was a about a nation building slime? Ah, good times. It's a shame the author seems to think the villains are more interesting. If only they were perhaps these last few volumes wouldn't have dampen my enjoyment of the series so much. The bad guys philosophy is the same as most tyrant's; self-indulgent and doomed to fail. Their vision for the future to fragile to survive a difference of opinion. If your power is simply used to destroy, control and rule through fear what's the point? Not sure I can even be bothered to keep reading but we'll see, the cliffhanger might just do its job.
Love reading about these wonderful characters and their development.
Rimuru is faced with the strongest opponent so far. They take something important away from him. He is enraged. He resolves to release all his anger and suppressed power upon his opponent. Can't wait for the next one!
I mean, this is just another Slime novel so odds are that I'm going to love it and this is no different. This has become one of my top novel series of all time and this just continues the awesomeness. Rimaru and crew are continuing their battle against the Empire and find themselves battling Veldora's sister, Velgrynd and the emperor Ludora. Great read. Going straight to the next novel.
I'm really excited to read the next volume. The true Dragons are something. I can't believe Rimuru got blindsided and got trapped. Just how much it will take to defeat the imperial army.
