Asta is a young boy who dreams of becoming the greatest mage in the kingdom. Only one problem—he can't use any magic! Luckily for Asta, he receives the incredibly rare five-leaf clover grimoire that gives him the power of anti-magic. Can someone who can't use magic really become the Wizard King? One thing's for sure—Asta will never give up!
The battle against the Dark Triad intensifies as Magna and Noelle join the fray. They’ll need to use their most powerful spells to stand a chance against these vicious devil users. But is this fight just a prelude to even greater horrors…?
Yūki Tabata (Japanese: 田畠裕基, Hepburn: Tabata Yūki) is a Japanese manga artist.
After working as an assistant to Toshiaki Iwashiro, he created the one-shot Hungry Joker, which was later serialized as a full series. After its conclusion, he launched Black Clover.
This book is the current last I own in the series. If I could give this volume 6 stars I would. I need the next one, like, yesterday. Please and thank you.
So the new volume is again focusing on the MCs and their friends fighting against the high leveled demons from Hell and the evil mages who helps the demons to invade human world through a human sacrifice attempt.
The two MCs don't show up all that much in this volume, but I do like how the supporting characters working together to fight against super powerful and scary enemies and how even low-leveled mages with no good bloodline can also fight with their wits!
In a world so full of hopelessness, I guess a little bit positive energy wouldn't hurt.
“Let me tell you…what the strongest thing in the world is…it’s a mother…PROTECTING HER CHILDREN!!!”
This was Noelle’s volume. So gripping and emotional. Also a technical marvel, art-wise, with this massive battle. This series executes intimate character moments within massive action SO. DAMN. WELL.
Tabata’s message at the end of this volume revealing that his passion for drawing came from his late father who he doesn’t even remember was also so emotional to learn of considering how heavily this volume deals with family loss and the residual trauma that comes with that. He seems like such a wholesome guy T.T <3
Though I have some criticism about this book and the series in general, I found myself satisfied after reading this one. This whole volume is almost fully dedicated to Noelle and her character development. Though it feels forced meaning the author is trying too hard to make Noelle a relatable and strong female character (at least some times), I still like her to a degree. At least, there is a certain level of development and Asta does not fully outshine everyone else. There were some really good moments which I am not going to spoil. But I'm still worried about how the series is going to go from this point on. We are getting close to the end but I'm not sure whether Asta or Yuno is worthy to become the Wizard King. We'll see I guess.
Let me tell you what the strongest thing in the world is: a mother protecting her children
Cada vez aguanto menos a los demonios y a la Lolopechka o como se escriba, pero qué gran personaje es Noelle cuando no tiene a Asta cerca. Muy emocionante su momento familiar del final.
This was a very satisfying read. I've always thought Noelle was a more underdeveloped character, so to see her get pretty much an entire volume dedicated to her backstory and character development was very vindicating. I'm hyped to see what the volume cover looks like when it's announced!
Dear Yūki Tabata, How do I even start? Out of all the animes and mangas I’ve seen, your series “Black Clover” has been my favorite by far. I like the way that you made each character have their own unique personality. I believe that your message to the fans is, don’t give up no matter what anyone says about you. The tone of the series makes it easy to tell how the characters are feeling. The plot of Black Clover is just amazing. Asta was born with no magic and gets looked down on for it but ever since he acquired Anti-Magic, he didn’t let anything get in his way of becoming a powerful mage. Now that he’s able to fully control his Anti-Magic abilities, he’s become an important piece to help take down the Dark Triad and the devils from the Underworld. When Magna was talking about Asta he said, “…and with zero magic, he’s got even less than I do. But he has Anti-Magic, and that stuff’s completely insane,” indicating that in the end, Asta’s hard work paid off because now people look up to him. When I watched the series and began reading the manga, I realized that it was easy to tell and feel how the characters are feeling through their voice and facial expressions. In the fighting scene between Noelle and Vanica, you can tell through Noelle’s tone and expressions that she is determined to defeat Vanica. Noelle says to Vanica, “You did whatever you wanted. And now…I…will make you pay for it!!!” This shows that she was focused on defeating Vanica from the beginning. Overall, Black Clover makes you believe that you shouldn’t give up so easily and throughout the series you can feel how the characters are feeling. I love your writing style and will consider adding some of it into my own writing style. Sincerely, Victoria Zepeda
The battle is super intense here! Can't wait to catch up on this in the anime. Highlights/Summary: - Magna defeats Dante after his mana runs out and he loses his connection to his demon Lucifero - Charlotte and Rill vs Vanica and Lolopechka, Noelle and Gadjah arrive - Noelle explains that she is now bonded to Undine, the Water Spirit, due to the curse from Vanica/Megicula weakening her bond to Lolopechka; summons a Saint Valkyrie form - As the fight continues and Vanica is beaten down, Megicula manifests and changes the tide of the battle - Megicula unleashes an area spell calling Decaying World, which drains the Saint level magic from Noelle; Gadjah gives his life to do a massive spell which severely weakens the Decaying World spell - Asta arrives and uses Anti-Magic to release the curse on Lolopechka. Undine thanks him by allowing Noelle to reactivate Saint Stage - Luck joins the fray and all work together. - Noelle's final blow to Megicula is stopped, but her brother Nozel shows up to help. The siblings work together to destroy the demon and their mother's soul is freed.
With only Zenon of the Dark Triad remaining, this arc should get even more intense. Bring on the next Volume! Recommend. This is one of the best fantasy shonen manga running.
Okay, the first part of this volume is a classic shonen beatdown the likes of which I haven't seen since Yusuke fought Chu (Yu Yu Hakusho, Volume 7) and it makes me so happy.
Then we move from the Dante fight over to the Vanica fight and the series gets back to what it does best... a constant back and forth of "We win" "Lol no" "We win" "Lol no" "We win" "Oh no". If the heroes are having trouble, bring in another character to help at the last minute. But don't let that be enough so we can drag this fight out a few more chapters by doing the exact same thing again. Also, let's include more flashbacks and flashbacks within flashbacks. ALL THE FLASHBACKS!!!
And why are all these female characters half naked? Seriously, why do her boobs gotta hang out like that? That is bad armor design! On the last page you can see her whole butt! I hate illogical fanservice.
Aside from Magna actually defeating Dante with his new technique (sort of), this was Noelle’s volume. We had character development, Noelle taking point in the fight against Megicula/Vanica, as well as getting some backstory on the Silva family’s run in with Vanica in the past. I really liked that while she does have some help in this fight, Asta and her brother, Nozel never actually take over the situation. The fact that Asta can’t really help is fabulous. Him just cheering on his friend from the sideline, and geeking out over how cool she looks was just so perfect, and to top it off, our girl finally accepted that she’s in love with Asta. Finally! Now she just has to tell him.
This volume ends with Megicula/Vanica defeated for real, so that means we only have two of the demon siblings left. I can’t wait, because this arc has just been balls to the walls action.
This volume (at least feels like) it has the least number of words to date! That does not mean that it is devoid of feeling, emotional moments and high-octane battles. No deeper meaning, this is simply a light on the words volume. With that said, the art definitely carries us throughout the journey. I feel that because it is a much quicker read then any of the previous volumes, that you read it two times over! Soak up some of the breathtaking to page art pieces and just truly slow down and appreciate the work (both art and story) of Yuki Tabata. There are some great moments and character realizations in this volume that make it worth reading twice before even moving to volume 31.
One day, villains will stop making the boneheaded move of making things personal for heroes. Sure you think "wow, this mother bear protecting her children is really putting up a great fight! Let's see what happens if I push her even further!" But then not only do the kids put aside their differences and hurts at each other, they rally their friends, allies, and found family to collectively put the hurt on you. And this is why devils in the Black Clover Universe are hella dumb, thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.
A very emotional volume as the battle with Vanica and Megicula as the heroes pull out all of their aces to try to take them down. It gets even worse when they reveal what Megicula was doing to Lolopechka by turning into a devil and using her as a puppet. We learn a lot of backstories like more stuff with Nozel, Gadjah, Undine. It is all really cool and even some really cool moments from Magna, Luck, and Rill.
The battle with Vanica and Megicula concludes. Noelle unleashed is always a thing of beauty, and even though we do get another round of 'convenient addition to the battle at the last minute', this is still very much her victory without a doubt. And I can't believe they even managed to write in a (good!) reason for Nozel's ridiculous hairstyle.
I should probably have reread the previous volume(s) because I was a bit confused as which character was actually doing what. The fight scenes were great though and some of the characters have developed such amazing powers. Loved the last plot twist about Noelle and her family in the end.
Honestly, I can't wait to see all these fights in anime form!
Hermosos.
It was Awesome! I like how the plot kept twisting, like how Gaja died, came back to life, and then pretty much died again, and how Noelle got a new power-up, Asta being funny as always, and how I think in this one at least, Magna beating Dante! That fight gave me cold chills the entire time I read it!

Great fights, amazing backstory with Megicula and young Nozel and Noelle and their mom. Great ending to the volume as well, had tears at some moments, I’m emotional like that.
