So many changes and losses! The adventures continue for Fiona and family. Sloan’s parents are 🚩🚩🚩 trying to control their son the way they do is just 😤😤😤. I’m glad to see him breaking away and finding his own way. The trickster in this story had me 🤬🤬🤬 and then at the end I was 🤔🤔🤔 because is he redeemed or playing by his version of his rules, despite the chaos and deaths cause?

I love this series. The main character is fabulous and the supporting characters wonderful. I enjoy the plots and ongoing story arc. It takes a great storyteller to mix the blend of plot and characters just right. Thank you both.

good

I love Fi and all the characters in this book. I do like the fact that even though Fi is pretty much the main character, her boyfriend, family, and friends are also included in a lot of these books. I definitely will be reading the next book in the series.

When I end up skimming more pages than reading it's time to call it quits. Ms Tempest's romance writer roots overtook the urban fantasy. I made it to 55% before shutting it down

Good

The Cumhaill family are back, and of course, that means trouble.
When Fi is targeted by a trickster, dangerous shenanigans ensue!

This is an entertaining and fast paced series. Each book is filled with action, fascinating beings, and one or two rather quirky characters. Everyone is a little larger than life, which means that the books are over the top entertainment, and a fun way to spend your down time.

You’ll need to start with book one, as the story is an ongoing one!

Recommended for those who are urban fantasy lovers.

I read each book immediately following the previous one with no breaks. As such I occasionally forget which book I originally see the small details in so they never make it into a review because I don't want to spoil anything. But that being said … Sloan's parents. Oh my, they are a piece of work, but it falls in line with the way the characters are written. In previous books, we have seen that while they spared no expense in training Sloan and making sure he was taken care, they did not fill his life with fun, laughter, and love that all children crave. Sloan standing up to them after their treatment of Fiona told me all I need to know about his character.

Fiona is being harassed by a trickster who is causing her druid life to clash with the real world. She finds herself in some extremely hot water with the feds and needs some real backup and fast. We finally get some more of Nikon's life and meet two of his sisters. As a result, one human gets extra curious and starts connecting the dots. I, for one, am glad we are finally get a human involved. It was bound to happen eventually and will give an extra avenue to explore.

I loved this book, but the slang still continues to grate on my last nerve. I think its worse because I tend to listen to the books and so its more annoying to hear. Aside from that I love the family dynamic, the animal companions, and the romance. I don't think one overshadows the other and they all flow naturally. I already started book 6 and am thoroughly engrossed.

Happy Reading!

holy Christmas balls that end

3.5 but rounded down because the lines seemed repetitive and the “fun talks” seemed endless. Small errors like usual, and Fi just generally seems… different. She was put together in the first few books but in this one, she repeats a lot, is slower to catch on to stuff, and everyone else isn’t part of the limelight per se so they seem dimmer to me.

I liked this. There was more family stuff going on, which I appreciate. Fi gets more emotional and closer to breaking, which I found refreshing. She’s not a super hero and there’s a LOT. I did think the balance between her brother’s death and dealing with it was a little off, in the sense that you don’t see her get to deal with it, so when she does or has to, it almost seems unexpected. Like “oh, okay, we’re back to that.”

This is a mild spoiler so…

I think Sloan moves pretty fast. I get where her hesitation comes from, and the fan in me wants them to be together, but the realistic part of me questions the pace. I feel like if she still has reservations, there should be more reveals on the why’s of it. A deeper look would make me feel better about her straight up “we’re not marrying and having kids tonight” attitude (I exaggerate obviously).

Overall it was fun. Entertaining. I get nervous with some stuff and hope nothing too bad happens. Cause a lot DOES happen to her. I worry.

3 So Therefore I Am Rich Stars

A Broken Vow is the fourth book in the Chronicles of an Urban Druid series by Michael Anderle and Auburn Tempest.

The plot felt entirely too forced for me. Pointlessly extending the wizards feud and apathy towards Fiona, while taking an entire book to resolve the nonsense. Even taking into consideration that it firmly placed an at least semi-reasonable leader at the head of their cohort, it’s wasteful IMO.

The only saving graces are that Anderle and Tempest finally placed some sort of, even infantile, system in local law enforcement to help hold the anonymity of the Empowered community. While also tackling a lot of the family focused random stresses or oversights that had been building. Aiden and Kinu finding a new/old home for their family, with twins on the way. Dillan and Calum finding their animal companions. With Sloan and Fi moving in next door and allowing the entire mac Cumhaill clan to tighten up the security around their home.

Nikon scared but, I’m glad we received a further look into his family. That up until now had been an incredible mystery.
Myra and Garnet finding their own family and happiness finally, as well.

So the book wasn’t terrible, but the main plot was ridiculous and frustrating.

I do love

These books. But holy cow, the jargon and cultural references are challenging. It's like learning a foreign language. Get out the reference materials for translations. But it's well worth the effort. For the fun and to understand the context coming from the native place or land from which it comes. Some languages have words, phrases, sayings that are so much better at illustrating an idea or describe what's happening in a way that brings so much more depth and insight then boring old English can convey. That's what the jargon brings too. A greater depth, a broader message. Whoops, I'm waxing a bit too heavy on the philosophical side. Academic, jargon. Sorry. But everything has a language, specifically created to better communicate the complexities associated with any speciality. Including, movie aficionados contribution to our culture. Ok too far, I'll just shut the old trap. The point, I'm enjoying this series, and your writing.

A joy to read your way thru

What sort of an author tries to kill a Greek god, gives him 2 known sisters (one known as Andi for Andromeda), adds in 2 animal companions named Doc marten and Daisy ( a skunk) and give a bevy of pithy, cogent phrases or sayings that speak to the heart of family, or life, or whatever.
My wife and I both enjoy this series on multiple levels, and are glad to see Fiona and the family tapped for at least 3 more books.
I'd write more if the keyboard of my tablet didn't piss me off more, with extra punctuation, mispellings, etc. And yes i know i can have it transcribe my speaking, but then all the pregnant pauses, mispeaks come into play
Again, read the series as it provides light and dark, and provides the reader with a glimpse of the "hidden world" from the perspective of one who obviously has researched the parts that make it up.
You might even find you you enjoy it.😊🤔

Each book just keeps getting better!

So, First things first… If you haven’t read the series in order, stop right now! Duly noted, it is quite possible to read each one of these as a standalone novel, and they work well that way. However, the subtleties and the nuances that build across the series and provide context, make this far better when read as a whole.

This book left me aching for the characters and their family; they’re on the hook throughout this “episode” and it isn’t fun. And the ending? Well that was startling and exciting all at once. A new friendship gets formed that I’m especially hoping plays a larger role in the future.

Finally, it’s humbling to admit , but Fiona’s happy place always moves me to tears. Well done, Ms. Tempest. Well done!

A great series.

I’ve been enjoying this series immensely. I love the family, and their close bond. The grove they are nurturing, and even the random trips to Ireland. That being said, this was not my favourite of the series to date. It was still good, and there were parts I loved (little bear, and Daisy), but being in Toronto for 99.5% of the story just took a little of the charm out of it. Plus there was the whole trying ti kill Fi again thing, but with no real resolution on the whole Sloane/parents Ireland saga.

Not a bad read by any means, just not as good as some of the others IMO.

LOVE this whole series! I can't even begin to tell how much I love these books - I have not been disappointed by a single volume, and while I could go into detail, I won't: because it shouldn't be spoiled!

These are light, while also being engaging, edge of your seat, funny and heartwarming ALL at the same time. The endings are not always happy, everyone does not always get their way, things are not always roses, life is - well, life. But that's the beauty of it! These stories allow you to feel ALL the emotions, but do not stop to let you wallow in any single emotional space.

Join the ride! It's a guaranteed good time!

The druid clan Cumhaill, continue to work to the greater good of their city.

When dealing with Fiona her friends and family are a full package. I love these characters, how they've grown into their rolls as well as their roots. There is not only trial, but also love, joy, and hope to make their city a safe place for all. The author even catches me unawares about the direction of the book/story, that is a rare occurrence. I have found myself daydreaming about living in such and awesum place, with such an awesum Tribe. Thank ye much for the craic.

Fun and quirky!

Once again, Tempest and Anderle deliver with the fun loving Cumhaill clan. Fiona is dragged into drama and must quickly find out who or what is behind it all before humans discover what is happening. The trickster begets death for humans whilst leaving riddles for Fi and must be stopped. Can Fi along with her family, boyfriend and the guild get to the bottom of it, solve the riddles and save lives?
Absolutely loved it and have already preordered the next book!

I ❤ Clan Cumhaill hard!

Exciting as always, Fiona, Brain, Sloan & Manx enjoy Toronto with the Clan in tow: righting wrongs, solving riddles, & relaxing in the family grove. Will Sloan lay down roots in Toronto, or go back to Ireland? What new hijinks will
all of the Clan be up to?

I am a fan of this Lady Druid & her close knit family, so your author notes made me very happy! I'll read them all then reread them!

Hard to put down

Okay, maybe hard to put down is a bit of a lie because for me this whole series has been impossible to put down. I consumed each book in one sitting then anxiously awaited a time when I could check out of my real life and enter the fun life of the next book. I have fallen in love with all of the characters that Auburn Tempest have introduced into my life through this series.

Poor Nikon

What was supposed to be a fun hide n seek cherry poppin for Sloan ends up a dead Immortal. But if Nikon is immortal… is he dead dead?
The trickster, Discord, makes a mess of things.
A human official has video proof of the “other”.
Sloan is being sneaky about something.
Someone bonds with a skunk.
And the annoying neighbors move out.

Still loving this series. More a 3.5 stars than a full 4. But I’ll tip the scale because it’s been so great so far.

3.5 stars so not stellar but still an entertaining, escapist read. However, this is the first book where the Sloan/Fiona, Fiona/Garnet, and Fiona family relationships felt more believable. The Sloan dynamic still feels fairly juvenile & rushed (similar to how an elementary school child calls their new friend their "boyfriend") but the mild relationship tension & tiff midplot (even with the fairly unrealistic resolution wrap-up) added to the relationship credibility.

Trickster Trouble

Someone has pointed a chaotic homicidal immortal trickster at Fiona. Add exploding contagious wizards and suspicion from high level law enforcement and Fiona has issues to solve.

Plenty of action, witty banter, and interesting riddles set the pace.

Well worth the read and eagerly awaiting the next book.

Gimme more!

Fi and family get me every time. This book, the entire series; is fast paced, fun and irreverent. There are so many feels! Laughs and tears. Garner and Myra and their rekindled family, the progression of Fi's relationship with Sloane, the animal antics, all of it keeps me coming back for more.

Magical fantasy!

I highly recommend this fantastic book, and the series in which it is to all readers who love paranormal urban fiction. The magical grove and creatures, the awesome plots and characters, and the family bonds create a wonderland for the imagination.
This series is clean and creative enough for young fantasy readers to be fascinated.
Enjoy!

Gotta love it

I dont normally write reviews this far into a series as if you reading this you already know how good it is.. but this one was deserving of great praise. It is fun , insightful and has a wounderful set of deep characters that feel like friends and family.. not to heavy but just right.. oh and did I mention the fun.

Family, Friends & Foes

Great urban fantasy centered on a family/friend group that being a part of would be awesome. Except for the foes. Deadly enemies surround them which only draw them closer & bring out their strength & humor. The conversations between the characters is one of the best parts of this series.

A Fun wrap Up

Many of the cliff hangers resolved while others suggested, all the while respecting the story's pacing and characters. (I hate it when authors wrap everything up in the last 10 pages to hit a certain number)
As the author says, "I heart this family hard" and I can not wait for the next book.

This series rocks! This guy says “ 3 thumbs up! But who’s counting?”

This is book 5 in the Urban Druid series and the story just keeps getting better and better. Interesting characters, thoughtful plots and a real feel for “family dynamics”. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Oh my heart, Imari!

I really cannot keep repeating the same sentiments book after book in this series, so just trust me when I say: the adventures are still grand, the love (familial and romantic) is adorable, and Imari is amazing. Seriously, Imari is legit a fav character now. ♥️♥️ Read this book, unless you haven't read any of the series because starting at book one is good.

Laugh out Loud a lot!

I am through 5 books of this series and have laughed while reading all 5. I enjoy the characters and story line but the dialog is the BEST. Definitely makes me want lots of brothers! I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud reading a book.
Thank you!

Book 5, as good as the first.

When the author hits the stage so well as was done in book one it is rare that the remaining books of the series keep up or even exceed that standard.
This series is one of those rarities, it is not only retains the standard set by the first, if anything it excels even further.
enough said, onto book 6 .

Now that Sloan has moved to Toronto and Fiona’s family, he has to find his place in his new life. But he’s being very mysterious about it.

Fiona has a new adversary who loves tricky riddles and deadly games who’s trying to destroy her life.

Fave scenes: Minx and the neighbor, Amari‘s nap buddy, the Pied Piper Emmit and the sneaky pool game.
