Maggie's life isn't simple anymore, but it's better than the lonely landscape it used to be.
It's high time Maggie got a break after tracking down a bunch of kidnapped children, then solving the mystery involving a sorceress and a vampire who were both using her to get back at one another. It almost makes her miss the cheating spouse cases. Almost.
But everyone's life is complicated, right? It's not just her.
She's now working with the vampire who just so happens to be her boyfriend's estranged father. No, her boyfriend does not know she's working with his dad.
While that argument waiting to happen brews, there are other things to worry about. A terrified kid comes to Maggie's office and tells her his family might be the ones supplying a new drug in town—a drug that affects magicals and a-magicals alike.
Before she knows it, Maggie is drawn into a world where the stakes are higher than can imagine, and the perpetrators are more than willing to kill a lone PI who is sticking her nose into their business.
Can Maggie survive taking on her biggest case to date? More, can she come out of the family drama with her relationship intact?
This is the third book in the Great Lakes Investigations series. Teens and young adults are showing up in the hospital unresponsive and ending up in a coma. Maggie is looking into it until someone close to her given the drug. Now with James Shalton, (Matt) and Ferrow they work on tracking down the source of the drug and trying to find a cure before more people die.
This book had a lot more stress for me (as the mom of a preteen) than the last, not sure why. I adore Shalton, he's the coolest vampire sidekick I've come across in a long time. I like that Maggie is finally freaking sharing all of the secrets she has. I really need her to share the rest with the ones she's closest to.
Recommended for people who like Urban Fantasy with a female lead, good mysteries and a fabulous narrator.
Just had to mention how thrilled I was with one of your references! Somehow, I doubt it was Michael. I didn't think anyone besides me even knew who the Bobsey Twins were...lol! I have some of their old books, and a couple of Curlytops too. Nice to have a nostalgic flashback in a modern book, though, would a young person have read books from the 1920's? Or even the old Nancy Drew books from the 30's to the 90's? I guess maybe if someone in the family valued books enough to keep old kid's books. 🤗
Not completely sure how I feel about it all. I'm not a fan of people keeping secrets and Maggie seems to be developing a habit of it. I wish the relationships felt more...relatable, I guess you could say. And there are lots of references to a foggy past without any clarifying backstory, which is annoying. Overall, I mostly enjoy these books so I'll keep reading.
Maggie is pulled into a case were both magical and non magicals are being admitted into the hospital in comas. Maggie and friends have to figure out where the drugs are coming from and how to help the victims. Another good book in the series with great characters and plenty of action. I really enjoy the series and am looking forward to the next book.
An additive series, always intriguing and enjoyable!!!!
Congratulations to Phillipa Norcross and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such intexresting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
When Maggie gets pulled into another case to help determine what street drug is affecting magical and non-magical she never expects it to hit so close to home. But as she gets deeper into the investigation her boyfriend, Cole, becomes the next victim and ends up in a magical coma. With time running out Maggie is going to have to find help wherever she can to find a cure for this mystery drug.
Book 3 of a series. A high-angst read, especially for a non-romance. At 75%, I finally had enough and skipped to the end. If you like your stories with a side of facial tissues, go for it. The writing is good, but the protagonist has gone wimpy to the point where I can't stand her anymore.
Wow preordered next instalment already now review this one and brilliant just brilliant can’t recommend this series enough amazing premise and wonderfully executed just hope you enjoy it as much as I did and. Ant wait till July for next instalment woo hoo
