Summary: Eyewitness Plant by David Burnie is a non-fiction book about plants that is full of beautiful close-up photographs of leaves, seeds, flowers, and fruits. This book is full of information about plants including how plants disperse seeds, climb, defend themselves, and attract insects. There are many close up photographs included which show all the parts of a plant in detail.

Genre: Informational text

Classroom Use: I would use this as a reference book for my class as part of a text set on plants. This book has a lot of great photographs of plants for students that may not be able to read very well, and also has a lot of detailed information for students with higher reading abilities.

Writing traits:
Presentation: This book has great photographs that help students visualize different parts of a plant and plant processes

Word Choice: This book is full of great science vocabulary words for students.

Interest level: 4th-7th grade

An Eyewitness book and just what you've come to expect. Great for those kids who don't like reading because lots of pics, but can get more if you choose to read the captions. Bad for doing research because hard to find what you are looking for.

Beautiful pictures with informative snippets of information. The kind of book, you would hope, would intrigue a child enough to look for more.

To me this book was extremely boring. The information is important in teaching especially in elementary school classrooms though. I know as a teacher I would need to come up with some fun ideas that reference this book.

Very informational. Covers the transfers of energy, sexual and asexual reproduction of plants, plant structure, natural history, and their importance in human life. Highly recommend! Although I wish it was longer.

To God be the glory for His wondrous, diverse creation! All the beautiful photos of plants and creatures in this book are made by His hand from nothing, despite what the author said.

If you want to wade through the evolutionary nonsense, there are some neat facts and pictures.

This is a good overview of plant life on earth. The book is targeted to a young audience and does a great job of providing a fair amount of information without being overwhelming. It is also informative for someone interested in the plant life so critical to our own survival on this planet. It defines what a plant is, the parts a plant can have—some genetic information, how plants reproduce, what habitats plants live in, and much more. The book is full of colorful, detailed pictures with descriptive captions.

These DK Eyewitness books are a huge hit at our house. They are full of interesting facts and colorful pictures. We are using these as non-fiction read-alouds for early elementary and typically cover one 2-page spread a night. (The books are aimed at Grades 3-7 for an independent reader.) The books are well-organized and contain sections at the end about jobs in and tools used for studying the topic and places to go for more information.

OK I know these are supposed to be kid books but they are awesome! Great pictures and just enough text to make you want to learn more. Great choices for a beginning history reader or to start an older reader out in a new area. Every time I pick one of these up and read it I learn new things. Highly Recommended

This book is Plant by David Burnie. This book can be used in 3-5 grade classrooms. This book can be used for lessons on flowers, fruits, seeds, and leaves. The book also offers a unique eyewitness view of plant anatomy and growth.
