You can know a lot about Jesus and not know him at all. We’re not meant to simply know a lot of facts about Jesus. Truly knowing someone requires personal knowledge coming from being with someone over time and building trust. Knowing about someone is just the first step toward truly knowing them. It’s the same with we come to know Him personally when we spend time with Him, when we build trust in Him, when we share our life with Him. Join Megan Fate Marshman in this eight-week invitation to respond to and really get to know Jesus in a personal and intimate way. This study through the Gospel of John will focus on dissecting His seven “I Am” statements, where we come to learn what Jesus wants us to know most about His character and love for us. Jesus’ new commandment is not to love others as they have loved me, not to love others as I want to be loved, not to love others as they want to be loved, not to love others as they deserve to be loved; Jesus’ new commandment is to love others with the unconditional love that Jesus has loved me! He literally calls us to love one another to death! “Forgiveness sounds wonderful until we’re asked to give it away.” Failures are opportunities for forgiveness. The Gardener is most proximal to the branches when He is pruning them. Christ is my condom from sin! He protects me from the STDs of satan: sin, transgression, and disobedience!
Trust involves not only assent but action! Out of physical chaos, Jesus’ prophesy disrupts spiritual complacency. God’s sovereignty supercedes our urgency. Jesus calls us to give up our quest for perfection and purity so that His perfection and purity may be fully displayed in us. I don’t live as if God accepts me based on what I do; I live as if God accepts me based on what He has done. Jesus redeemed Peter through ERP (Exposure Response Prevention) therapy! He exposed Peter to the triple denial of his past in order to restore his relationship with Christ in the present and reinforce his spiritual calling for the future! Comparison is the killer of calling. It’s not the size of our faith but the Subject/Substance of our faith that matters. My favorite statement of Jesus will forever remain “I Am the Good Shepperd;” it’s in my spiritual–and biological–DNA! And for that, I say, “Aho! May it be so!”
I loved the companion videos! They really brought a tenderness and conviction that can be hard to communicate through the written word alone. Loved most of the study, but there were a few questions that I was totally lost on, and even some that asked us to dig into parts of scripture that I think the Lord wanted to be a mystery for us!
Love Megan’s heart, and the study was well constructed over all!
Excellent study on the book of John. this is the second study I did on John this summer, but this one was by far my favorite. Megan has you digging in and exploring what the verses really mean. The videos are highly engaging as her enthusiasm, passion, and love for Christ and His church pours through the screen. She's my new favorite Bibe study author.
very good study . challenges you to follow Jesus' commands and to realize who He is. Opened my eyes to many things. I even started teaching Sunday school to the kids.
