My Review:

Based on Psalm 139 is such a precious board book perfect for little hands, hearts, and minds. The Psalm is a perfect reminder of God's love for His children. He is always near us, ready to receive us and hear what we have to say. Or if we are afraid He is always ready to draw us near. A Perfect Father indeed!

This board book is the best for little hands and for read alouds. It touches your heart and shows your child that God is with them at all times and cares for their needs. It would also make a good gift idea!

My thoughts: Known: Psalm 139 is a cute story about how God is a good daddy who knows everything about you and loves you so much. I loved the retelling of the story and it is a feel-good book about God and His love for His children. It would make a cute bedtime story, cuddle-me time story, or just a read-to-me story. Perfect for church daycares, gifts, or whatever. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.

This short, simple board book draws on concepts from Psalm 139 to teach children about God's nearness and love. The simple text from Sally Lloyd-Jones will be easy for very small children to understand, and instead of quoting or paraphrasing from the Bible, she phrases general concepts in concrete ways that babies and toddlers can relate to. The diverse illustrations from Jago are soft and gentle, showing a father and son going through their day. The book indirectly parallels God's knowledge and care for us with the father's care for his child.

Known: Psalm 139 will appeal to people looking for simple ways to introduce their children to God's character. If someone has a special attachment to this psalm and wants to see it represented in a children's book, they need to know that this book just focuses on the concept of being known. It doesn't go through the psalm as a whole, but this is a lovely introduction to a key concept. I would recommend this for parents to use with their children at home, and for church and Christian school settings.

Although some books include references that are specific to a parent's perspective, the text in Known only talks about God. It never puts a label on the relationship between the adult and child reading this together, making it suitable for a variety of contexts. However, with that said, this book can be especially meaningful for dads who are primary caregivers. There aren't many books in the Christian or secular markets that show fathers spending everyday life with their children, and this book emphasizes a father-son bond while the mother comes home from work at the end of the story. This reversal on stereotypical family representations can be meaningful to readers who see their lives and routines reflected here.

I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

With simple paraphrasing of Scripture, Known: Psalm 139 declares that little ones are loved by their Heavenly Father. As the Psalm shows, God created us, understands us, is always with us, and knows our thoughts. These are comforting thoughts for a young one to hear.

The illustrations are cute, communicating each thought nicely. I only wonder if addressing God as “a good Daddy” and showing an earthy father acting out each thought might trip some children up. I understand it is simplified for toddlers, but to me the reverence seems lost by addressing Him this way.

First Line: God is a good Daddy and I am his little child.

No wonder God knows me so well . . .
He made me!
How wonderful.

This is the second of two board books inspired by the text of Psalm 139. Unlike other board books in this series, the correlation of verse to text is less obvious. The spirit of the psalm comes through in reminders that God never forgets us. He knows everything about us -- down to the very hairs on our heads. Jago's gorgeous illustrations are engaging and soothing enough for a bedtime read.

This gorgeous board book makes sharing God's word with littles a delight--and is done in a way they can grasp and that resonates. Thanks for sending a copy of this beautiful book my way for review, Zondervan.

We bought this book to donate to our church nursery, but we let Jack do a "quality control" test first.

As with Found (the book in this series we own), the illustrations are bright, yet soothing, with beautiful colors and touching emotions. The words are comforting, sweet, and accessible to littles. Jack wasn't interested at first, but he got interested once I started pointing out some of the interesting city elements like people and cars.

I love the concept and the message, but I think the illustrations muddle the message for young readers. This retelling of a psalm highlights that God is a good daddy to us, but the pictures Showa child interacting with his earthly dad. Since this is a board book, it is intended for very young children & I think it is too confusing, which is too bad, since the text is good.

This is a simplified version of Psalm 139 for a young child, in board book fashion. It contains warm, loving illustrations that explain how God loves a child like a good daddy. It is encouraging and uplifting.

cute little board book based off one of my favorite Psalms! I love how well it talks about the intimacy of God's love. I just did a Hebrew translation of this psalm, and so much of the essence was captured so well.
