I love Max's books! Reading them for me is like sitting across from Max and having conversation!! He takes a tough subject and makes it so down to earth and understandable. I am on the launch team so we have just read the first 4 chapters received, and I can not wait to read the rest of the book.
One of the things that stood out to me is that Jesus came from His throne in Heaven for me, and for you. It's a personal thing.....not a religious thing.
I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to read about Jesus and getting to know Him.
I’ve never read a book by Max I didn’t enjoy. He doesn’t go too deep for the normal person, but he definitely has a way with words. His teaching is backed up by scripture. This book describes how Jesus was on earth, and how to have a personal relationship with Him. Being a believer and having a relationship with Jesus are different things. I believed for many years before I took the time to get to know Him and have a relationship with Him. I recommend all of Pastor Lucado’s books.
This is my first time reading something by this author, but I was amazed, he primarily took from the 4 gospels and went in great detail the true humanity of Christ, to help understand the intensity of sacrifice Jesus made for us. This book is great for new and old believers to help understand more of the new testament and remind us of the unending grace of God.
Loved it. Lucado writes in such a way that it really connects you with the topic and makes it easier to understand. I love the personal anecdotes he includes which make him so relatable too. Another must read from my favorite author!
This book provided an excellent Lenten reflection on my relationship with Jesus, the God who knows MY name The audio read by Ben Holland is highly recommended.
i took way too long to finish this book, for literally no particular reason. but i truly think this is one of my favorite Christian books i’ve ever read. i feel like this book really personifies Jesus. it talks about how he laughed, maybe even snored, how he was invited to parties, and how he had such love for us. i think so often when i read the Bible i think of Jesus as so stoic, but in reality Jesus lived out joy and love and happiness. He experienced the pleasures on earth like family dinners and weddings of friends and dinner parties. the vivid imagery or scene-setting of Scripture in this book was lovely. Jesus is not just God, but He was a person who walked on earth. really diving into that lens of Scripture really helps you shed new light on just how radical His love was—His sacrifice was! really want to see what else this author has done! 5 stars
I loved this one! 💗 I read it slowly as part of my morning devotional, and loved the fresh perspective on the life and teachings of Jesus.
It was such an encouraging and uplifting take on what the Savior has done for us.
I think most Christians would find something to learn and appreciate in this book. There is also a pretty in depth question and review section at the back of the book for those who may want to journal, or add more to their meditation and study.
Just read the first 3 characters that I received in advance from the publisher. True to Max Lucado, they are wonderful! It talks about Jesus' humanity and diety all in one....that Jesus "gets us" because He became a human just like us! I can't wait to read the rest of it!
Fabulous book! True to Max's writing skill, Jesus is very relevant to our lives today!
I love the main character. I just felt like the chapters kind of skimmed over the topic. Not really in depth as I thought it would be. I liked the side stories but I wasn’t as satisfied as I had hoped.
Max Lucado was one of the first Christian authors that I ever read, and he continues to be one of my favorites! When I had the opportunity to read the first four chapters of his newest book, Jesus: The God Who Knows Your Name, I was very excited to dig in!
The first four chapters discuss the importance of Jesus’ birth, the events of the night of his birth, the significance of him being the Word made flesh, and how he understands everything we go through because he was on earth and went through these emotions and experiences too. Reading over these chapters made me realize again how much Jesus loves me, and how much he has done for me. It made me fall in love with the Lord of my life all over again.
Some of my favorite quotes just from the beginning of this book include:
“ ‘I am with you always.’ Jesus said before he ascended to heave, ‘to the very end of the age’ (Matthew 28:20). Search for the restrictions on the promise; you’ll find none. You won’t find ‘I’ll be with you if you behave…when you believe. I’ll be with you on Sundays in worship….at mass.’ No, none of that. There’s no withholding tax on God’s ‘with’ promise. He is with us.”
“God’s nature would not hold him in heaven. It led him to earth. In God’s great gospel he not only sends, but he also becomes; he not only looks down, but he also lives among; he not only talks to us, but he also lives with us as one of us. God with us.”
“But want to know the coolest thing about the One who gave up the crown of heaven for a crown of thorns? He did it for you. Just for you.”
With the first four chapters being this wonderful, I am very excited to receive the rest of the book to continue to gain more insight about and praise my Savior! I received the first four chapters of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
4.75 stars Really beautiful and encouraging book about Jesus and how He loves us and relates to us. The one thing I didn't love about this book was the occasional (only once or twice near the beginning) time where Max Lucado spoke about Jesus in a way that was almost disrespectful? Like I get that he's trying to make Him "real" to us - like a true and authentic human being, but sometimes Lucado's rephrasing of the Bible verses and how Jesus said things liiiitle bit too casually just went a little too far? But otherwise - a really great read. Lots of analogies and phrasings and encouragments that I want to remember and hold in my heart.
This book was not meant for me. I grew up atheist. And I have recently picked up the bible to get a better understanding on Christianity. My friend recommended this book to help me understand Jesus more. However, I find that Max's interpretation of Jesus makes me dislike him more. It seems like he is trying to brainwash me (keeping in mind this book is for people who already believe). It is not scientific enough for me. It made me question more of the bible and its teachings. He is not a good read if you are new to Christianity. I did not find my path through this book.
I read this book over the course of a couple of months as a before-bed devotional. It was a really nice look at the life of Jesus and what His life and His work means for us. My one fault with this book would be that it tried a littletoo hard to be funny. Maybe that's not the right word for it, but especially in the first few chapters (unless I just got used to it) there were so many little quips and witticisms that were overdone and seemed almost disrespectful. But for the most part, I still enjoyed this book and would recommend.
What a wonderful book. I write this in tears because of the powerful writing of Mr. Max Lucado. What a phenomenal work. As I made the decision this year to restart my faith journey, my dad got me this book. It is needless to say how wonderful it was to have a reminder of who Jesus was, is, and will always be. Beautifully written and engaging, it’s the perfect book to get you started on recognizing that you’re SO SO loved by the one who created you and the entire universe.
This is the second book I’ve read from Max Lucado and once again I’m super impressed with his writing. This book was a very much needed reminder or Jesus’ humanness. I have such a hard time imagining Jesus as a human who suffers and understands our suffering and this book does an excellent job teaching about Jesus. I particularly loved the first part of the book and found it to be very very powerful and convicting for me personally. Perfect book to read before the holidays to remind me of who Jesus was and still is today. So much truth in this book.
While I am still in the process of reading, I am loving this book! True to his style, Max Lucado personally connects you with the topic. I always love the personal anecdotes that allow him to reach the hearts of so many. This book is no exception. Max always helps us appreciate that our spiritual growth and development is a personal experience, and no two will be the same. By taking in his words and meditating on his message, along with the Scriptures, we can continue to strengthen our faith and relationship with our Heavenly Father. This is a must read for all, especially those looking to better understand and grow their relationship with Jesus!
Currently a few chapters in, and I am thoroughly enjoying and appreciating the perspective of a REAL Jesus - not just one who is God, above all else, and reigns in heaven, but One who became human, lived our human life, understands our struggles and yet overcame. Our Jesus, our God, is able to relate to us, in all our struggles, in all our weakness. What a fresh and inspiring way to view our God! Thanks Max! Can't wait to finish!
This book beautifully explains how Jesus can relate to us through both his human and supernatural moments. If you want to understand Jesus a little bit more this is the book for you. If you really don't think Jesus can understand what you're going through this is the book for you.
Probably one of the best books I have ever read. Lucado makes scripture come alive in our time.I am ever amazed at his ability to write fiction, a children's book, or non fiction , and it is all wonderful.
Excellent book. Love reading Max , it's like a visit with him personally. Always learn something about Jesus and about myself. Will be reread many times
What more can I say? Lucado is one of my all time favorite authors. He has a way with words. This particular book did not seem as good as some of his others. I give it 4.5 stars. Rounded up to 5. But, I’m still a big fan.
Max Lucado, once again has authored a book for everyone to grow in their faith. "Jesus, The God Who Know Your Name", lets us know Jesus: Immanuel, Friend, Teacher, Miracle Worker, Lamb of God, and Returning King. This book will touch your heart - why - Max Lucado writes: "He knows you." "Jesus came to be near you." "I am with you', Jesus said." "He did it for you. Just for you." Short and simple quotes - but oh how they do touch your heart!
