Private investigator Franki Amato has just turned thirty, and she feels anything but festive. For starters, she can’t have cake because she’s given up sweets, and one of her teeth is torturing her. To add insult to birthday injury, she has to investigate a surreal strip club homicide—with her sixtyish ex-stripper landlady. Then her meddling Sicilian grandma crashes the New Orleans non-party and insists that she steal a lemon to land a husband. Unfortunately for Franki, the man she has in mind has his mind somewhere else, and their relationship seems to have soured. Adding to her troubles, she has to figure out what a missing amber pendant and a mysterious amaretto bottle have to do with the murder, not to mention why she’s being followed. When a second dancer goes down and a third is threatened, Franki turns to a weird witch to crack the case and cancel a curse before someone blows out her candles for good.
Traci Andrighetti is the USA Today bestselling author of the Franki Amato mysteries and the Danger Cove Hair Salon mysteries, and she is a co-author of the Killer Foursome mysteries. Her latest release is 4 SLEUTHS & A BACHELORETTE, Franki's first co-investigation with the sleuths of Leslie Langtry, Arlene McFarlane, and Diana Orgain. Right now Traci's plotting TUACA TAN, Franki Amato 8, about the members of an all-female Mardi Gras krewe who keep dropping dead. Next off the press is Franki’s second investigation with her new “krewe,” 4 SLEUTHS & A BURLESQUE DANCER, about a washed up dolphin dancer found dead in the water. LMAO (the initials of Langtry, Andrighetti, McFarlane, and Orgain)! :D
Franki Amato stared out the peephole of her door at a black feathered-wing creature standing on her porch. It was her 30th birthday, so she suggested to her terrier that it could possibly be “Death” – but the figure raised a bony, shriveled skin, white hand which was clutching a cigarette holder. Nope, it was her landlady, Glenda O’Brien. The 60-something woman was wearing a black leather micro top, a tutu, and thigh-high boots, the stuff of nightmares! She had come to acknowledge Franki’s birthday. When she left, Franki’s cell phone rang. It was her mom who was upset that Franki was still unmarried at her “advanced” age. Her grandmother was actually in mourning over it, since she had called Franki an old maid since the age of 16! The rest of Franki’s day was actually much worse, filled with lots more drama and craziness.
Franki is an ex-cop living in New Orleans and working in a private detective agency, Private Chicks Inc. When a stripper is murdered, Franki goes undercover in the strip club to find the murderer. She gets much more “help” than she needs with family and friends keeping her head spinning! You will love this crazy book! It never calms down for poor Franki, yet she stays strong and gets the job done!
This was such a fun book. The characters are outrageously funny, creating chaos with the very best of intentions! The story line is fast-paced and delightful. You won’t want to miss the goings on in this series of books! Grab your copies and sit down to enjoy Franki’s crazy life!
The audiobook Amaretto Amber: Frankie Amato Mysteries, Book 3 by Traci Andrighetti, narrated by Madeline Mrozek was such a fun book to listen to! I laughed over and over! Even though it is Book #3 in the series, it was the first one I listened to. I don't think that it spoiled anything for me, but I'll find out because I'm dying to now listen from the beginning!
I think the book would also be good to read, but definitely the narration in this one made it so much more enjoyable. Madeline Mrozek was FANTASTIC! Seriously, it sounded like there was more than one narrator, but really, it was just her...for all the characters. She is phenomenal! I plan to follow her narration and get her other books, 100! I loved listening to her. I don't think there was anything I didn't like. Her volume, pace, voices, inflection, everything was top notch! I highly recommend you listen to her work if you haven't done so yet. I see that she also narrates Book 1&2 in this series, so I can't wait to start them. :-)
I rate this audiobook 5/5 stars across the board. I was entertained throughout; the characters are so funny and the storyline was awesome! I would categorize this as a cozy mystery but a bit on the raunchy side of cozy (some content and word choice)...but still clean (no sex or violence). It was right up my ally...hehee! Keep up the great work ladies...this book was amazing!
Thank you for reading my review. I hope it helped. :-)
Franki, Veronica, Glenda and Nonna are at it again!
Turning thirty is a milestone for some folks, including Franki. When she stumbles upon the body of a stripper with a love of Amaretto, the adventure begins! Will Franki find the killer? Will she "strip for love"? Will Glenda "bump and grind"? Is Nonna plotting Franki's marriage and grandchildren? You betcha that and even more!
I enjoy the humor, camraderie, general chaos and the adventure in this series. Franki is very relatable, like all of us, just trying to make a life she loves - not her fault that her life includes a dangerous (at times) job, a senior stripper landlady, a Nonna who thinks Franki is a spinster and will take care of that problem herself, a beautiful partner who is a friend and a handsome banker boyfriend.
A great book that keeps you guessing "whodunit" and keeps you laughing and loving Franki and the crew!
I received a free copy of this book for an impartial review.
Traci Adrighetti’s, Amaretto Amber is a fast-paced, romantic comedy. It’s the third I’ve read in her series and I’m totally addicted.
Franki Amato is an ex-cop who lives in New Orleans and works with her best friend in a private detective agency called Private Chicks Inc. Her landlady Glenda is a feisty sixty-one year old retired stripper who decorated Franki’s apartment with bordello furniture. And did I mention she lives across the street from a graveyard? Voodoo, eccentric characters and Louisianna charm permeate her stories.
In Amaretto Amber a stripper has been murdered and Franki goes undercover in the strip club to find the murderer. But life is never easy for Franki. She just turned thirty and her very-Italian mother and nonne turn up on her doorstep to do all they can to get her married. Her boyfriend’s job at a bank is compromised and she’s worried that it’s her fault. Was Voodoo or witchcraft involved in the murder? Anything is possible in Franki’s world.
Who wouldn’t love the clutsy heroine Franki Amato who has had more than her share of bad luck (especially with men), but keeps a wicked sense of humor? You cheer her on through one mess after another.
One of the main sources of humor is Franki’s eccentric and unpredictable landlady Glenda. You never know what she will do, say, or wear next. Her first introduction: “Along with the cigarette holder and the set of black wings, Glenda was clad in a studded black leather micro tirangle top, a tiny tutu and thigh-high boots. I couldn’t decide if she looked like a winged Hell’s Angel or a geriatric Victoria Secret’s model whose wings had been clipped.”
I highly recommend Traci Andrighetti’s Franki Amato series, but to get the whole story I would start with the first one, Lemoncello Yellow, which is being made into a movie. They are light and fun. There’s no graphic sex and little violence in them.
Franki Amato's 30th birthday gets off to a rocky start when a misunderstanding lands her in jail, her boyfriend's assistant let's her know his job is in jeopardy, largely due to his association with her and she has a sore tooth . If that's not enough, she gets a call from Glenda, her landlord and retired stripper, telling her she needs to get down to Madame Moiselle's because an ex stripper was found murdered in a bathtub and Glenda wants Franki to investigate. New evidence suggests that this is not a crime of passion as she first thought but something more sinister is going on . In addition, Bradley, Frankie's boyfriend, seems to be closer to losing his job after several big clients of his suddenly take their business elsewhere. Franki has her hands full with the murder investigation and trying to find out what is going on at the bank where Bradley works, then she finds out her mother and nonna have come New Orleans to help with baking for St. Joseph's Day and to help Franki get a husband (her nonna is determined to find her a husband) adding to an already stressful situation.
I really enjoyed this book and the other's in the series. I'm giving the book 5 stars because it was a well written, entertaining read (I read it in less than 2 days because I was so engrossed with it). I love the characters and I liked the mystery and how it played out. If you haven't read this series, then I recommend you start. All the books are entertaining , well written fun reads that will have you laughing out loud. ***PLEASE NOTE: I was given a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Run-of-the-mill cutesy mystery set amid strip and drag clubs in New Orleans. The humor was forced, there were too many characters, and the ultimate resolution of the mystery was not satisfying.
Traci Andrighetti takes readers on another rollicking ride in this latest installment of my favorite cozy mystery series! The book opens with a milestone birthday for oft-beleaguered cop-turned-PI Franki Amato. She's turning 30 and she's got a bad tooth, a nonna (Italian grandmother) who's gone into mourning because Franki's now officially a spinster, and a birthday strip-o-gram on her tail. She can't even use a spa gift card without running afoul of the po-po. But Franki doesn't have time to wallow in birthday-induced misery because her inappropriately-attired landlady needs her help solving a murder at Madame Moiselle's, the gentlemen's club where Glenda used to "perform" and still has close ties to many of the girls there. Soon, Franki's chasing leads all over town, with a host of colorful sidekicks, her suspect list is growing, and she's finding herself more deeply immersed in stripper culture than she ever wanted to be. Can Franki bust the perp before s/he strikes again? And will she be able to keep her personal and professional lives separate when her meddling mother and nonna come to New Orleans for the town's St. Joseph's Day celebration?
This story was fast-paced, entertaining, and by turns both funny and creepy. It was great to see Glenda, who is such a unique and hilarious character, playing a starring role in this outing of the series. Pretty much everything that comes out of her mouth makes me snort laugh! And she was joined by several new supporting characters that were very amusing, particularly cranky drag queen Carnie Vaul (Hee!) and a pimp-preacher named King whose wardrobe was almost as outlandish as Glenda's. I was also very intrigued by Detective Wesley Sullivan, the cop investigating the Madame Moiselle murder. He and Franki took an instant dislike to each other and they butted heads throughout the book, so he's been set up to be an ongoing antagonist for her, but . . . I was feeling some heat between those two and would be interested to see something of a romantic nature develop there. I know, I know, Franki's got her banker boyfriend, Bradley (who had a sub-plot in Amaretto Amber involving problems at his work). I just think it might be fun to see our feisty heroine involved in a love triangle with two very different men. Nothing wrong with giving a girl some options, am I right? ;)
If you haven't read the Franki Amato Mysteries yet, what are you waiting for? These books are an absolute blast!
I received Amaretto Amber as an ARC from the author, but I would have gladly paid for it. Traci's series just gets better with each installment. Frankie Amato's turned 30 with no ring on "that" finger. There's trouble on the horizon with her boyfriend, Bradley, and to top it all off, Nonna and Frankie's mom show up uninvited. Add in the murder of a stripper at the club Frankie's aging landlord/stripper, Glenda, frequents and you have the makings of a comedy of errors. Between having to deal with Glenda tagging along for the investigation, Nonna trying to get Frankie married, and Frankie trying to fix whatever the problem is with Bradley, Traci takes us for one wild ride. I thoroughly enjoy this series and can't wait to see where the next one takes us.
This is a great book; this is the third book in the Franki Amato Mystery series byTraci Andrighetti. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read this one you will want to go back and read the other books in this series. Franki Amato is a private investigator, who has to investigate a surreal strip club homicide along with her sixtyish ex-stripper landlady. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Another fun story about Frankie and the PI business in New Orleans. When the strippers and the Nonnas get together there were many laugh out loud moments-involving aprons and shawls to name some! I also liked the way the PI business, the family visit, and Bradley's bank business all were interwoven in the story. I have to say Frankie is unflappable for the most part! She seems to take everything in stride despite how she feels inside. Really-sleeping in the tub with enema bags? Facing half naked women? Dealing with her landlady Glenda? Frankie is amazing. You won't want to miss this third book in the series! It is fast paced and entertaining. The series is best when the books are read in order.
It's her thirtieth birthday, she thinks that she is cursed, and that feeling is borne out by being descended upon by her mother and Italian grandmother hassling her about her unmarried state. Then there is a murder at the strip club favored by sexagenarian landlady, and her boyfriend being sabotaged at his bank! The publisher's blurb gives hints and clues but can't begin to prepare you for all the situational and verbal humor. No spoilers here, but the investigation is so convoluted, and each suspect is so easily believable. The antics of family, friends, and the crazy landlady would be unbelievable anywhere but in NOLA. Madeline Mrozek really brings each character alive and can snark with the best. I'm still totally amazed that she doesn't crack up narrating this author's books!
“Amaretto Amber”, book three in the Franki Amato series, has all the pluses and minuses I have become used to. It goes on forever with countless sideways accounts concerning Bradley, her Nonna, strippers, the Amber Room, dentistry, eating and drinking, fashion and voodoo – it's a wonder she has any time to solve a crime. On the plus side it is genuinely funny – Traci Andrighetti obviously had a ball writing it and I learned more about strippers and their ways than I ever would have thought possible. If you like your crime novels to stick to the point and just get on with it you should avoid “Amaretto Amber”. If, like me, you don't mind a lot of detours on the road to your destination you'll enjoy it.
Hilarious look at the seamier side of New Orleans. Strippers, drag queens, voodoo, witchcraft, Italians, Catholics, nonne (Italian grandmothers), and more will keep you entertained. If this is being made into a TV movie, it must be on cable. Pasties may be required by the strip club, but not all remain fully clothed at all times. I realize I am naïve, but this book is educational. I was grateful for the explanation of much of the terminology. I feel as if I have just taken a walk on the wild side. I won't remember all the euphemisms, but they sure had me snorting. The author provided a copy in exchange for my honest review.
I like to read cozy mysteries for the characters as much as I do for the mystery aspect. If a series has great characters, I'll stick with it even if the mystery isn't as strong. In the Franki Amato series, both the characters and the mysteries are great. I love quirky, funny characters and this series is filled with them. I also love when I can't guess "whodunit" until near the end of the book, and this one definitely kept me guessing. You could definitely read this book as a stand alone mystery, but treat yourself and read the whole series...you won't be sorry!
Life for Franki Amato is eventful. She is an Italian American Catholic private investigator who is living in New Orleans working on a new case. Dealing with curses, a sixty something ex-stripper landlord, murders, voodoo gods, a sugaring business and a surprise visit from her mom and grandma her life becomes unpredictable and crazy. This is a fun story that will keep you guessing to the end. It is part of A Franki Amato Mystery series but could easily be read as a stand alone.
What do you get when you mix strippers, drag queens, & murder together in N'Awlins? You get one crazy ride of a story! Definitely a laugh out loud book crackling with eccentric & oddball characters. P.I. Frankie Amato is funny, gutsy, & determined whether she's solving murders, protecting her boyfriend Bradley, or fending off her one track minded Italian mama & nonne. Definitely a 5 star read!
I love Franki Amatto. This is probably the funniest of the series as well! Franki has to go undercover at a strip club. Not only does she meet strippers, she is immersed in the world of withcraft, voodoo, hoodoo, drag queens, and little Sicilian grandmothers! I laughed out loud so much at this book! I am not a huge fan of Bradley, but he is a good guy. I would start at the beginning of the series and read them in order just for the enjoyment!
Ciao! I absolutely love the Italian/Sicilian American mindset throughout the series. I never had much Italian in my North Dakota neck of the woods, only to find out I, being adopted WAS Italian, so I may not have an Italian nonna, someday I will be and it's so much more fun exploring a completely foreign culture, that of New Orleans. Cannot wait for the next one
I have just started reading this author’s book series and I am hooked! I like the setting in New Orleans and how the author has woven in the history and magic of living in New Orleans making the story very appealing to a midwestern like me. I love all the characters. Poor Franki dealing with her mother and her Nonna, her stripper landlord and all the little bits of trouble she gets herself into. I am laughing through this book and just thoroughly enjoying it. A fun read!
I can understand why Franki Amato is heading for the small (Depending on the size of your tv of course) screen. The series so far has a wonderful cast of characters, a whole lot fun and bucket loads of sass. Traci Andrighetti has the amazing knack of putting her heroines foot in her mouth. Any writer who can make you laugh like this deserves to be read.
This is a great laugh out loud book that will leave you wanting more. The characters are a mix of strippers, drag queens and witches set in New Orleans. Franki Amato is investigating a murder with the help of her crazy cast of friends and acquaintances. She gets herself into crazy situations which remind me of Lucy Arnaz. Loved every Franki Amato story and can't wait for the next one.
Such an entertaining series. Franki and her cohorts are always lots of fun and very funny. The author does a wonderful job of rounding out the characters and describing the scenes which pulls you into the story. I definitely recommend this series if you like humorous mysteries with a little bit of romance thrown in (just a little)!
Franki is turning thirty and things do not go well on her birthday. She lands in jail, her boyfriend is in trouble at work and she is asked to get involved in another murder case. Adding to all the craziness, her Mother & Nonna come to town. Franki must solve the murder and help her boyfriend.
I really like this series. Poor Franki Amato has a very bad start to her 30th birthday. She has given up sweets for Lent and has a bad tooth. She thinks she may have been cursed.
This book is an extremely fun read. I can't wait for the next one to come out.
A laugh-out-loud whodunit set in New Orleans. It's witty, wacky descriptions of the Nonnas and their reactions to the stripper costumes will have you howling. It's a walk on the wild side, with grannies.
This is a great book. The author mentions the witchcraft and voodoo that abounds in New Orleans, took us to a strip club where a murder takes place and has Franki's mother and Nona come for a visit! Put all these things together, stir it up, and you have an exciting story.
This is my favorite Franki book yet! How can you not love a book with Franki, Glenda, realitives, strippers and OMG, the Queens? I laughed, I cried and yes, I yelled at my ereader, I can't really be the only one... Another Fantastic Franki Festivale, thank you Traci!
