A pilot from Old Earth crash lands in a whole New World—and falls for her dreamy medic—in Lily X’s sexy, fluffy sci-fi romance.
Aww hell. I probably shouldn’t have “borrowed” a US military ship to flee impending disaster on Earth, but it’s not like we had a better option. We had to get out of that polluted hellhole!
Life on the New World as a refugee is a hard one to get used to, but I’ll do what I can for a better future. At least the pretty medic in charge of my case provides a lovely distraction. Problem is, I’m having a hard time keeping my thoughts respectable around her.
The past few years had been one long, endless hustle. Life as a medic is go-go-go, without much time for rest or romance. But none of that carefully accumulated medical knowledge has prepared me for what I feel tending to a beautiful, burly captain who crash lands on Royal One.
I’m supposed to be taking care of her, but as she wiggles her way into my heart one endearment at a time, she shows me there’s more to life than just work.
As her past comes calling, everything we’ve fought to build could be ripped away…
Quick fun f/f scifi read This is the last installment of the New Worlds-series by Lily X. All books are set in a cluster of worlds outside „Old Earth“ and revolve around a group of friends (and their friends) who find their partners. It is again a fun read with engaging characters a pinch of smutty and an interesting story line. Featuring a shipload of people fleeing a tsunami and climate-change on „Old Earth“ Safe With Me touches on a current political topic. The main focus though is the emerging relationship between Havi and Fay: esp. the solution of hang-ups is not as well-developed as we came to expect in this series. So only 3 stars. It is fun to meet all previous couples again and say farewell since this is the end of this series. Thanks to netgalley and Carina for the ARC. The review is left voluntarily.
I was expecting this book to be erotica, like some of the previous ones in the series are, but it turned out to be a rather cute opposites-attract romance between a burly Old Earth pilot and the small New World medic who treated her when her spacecraft crashed on Royal.
I enjoyed seeing the MCs from the previous books reappear in this one, getting a feel for the whole family/community. This is the last book in the series and even though the stories didn’t all work for me, all in all, it was entertaining. Safe with Me is the fluffiest of the lot and a nice way to end. 3.5⭐️
I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Safe, cherished, wholehearted trust, and simple pleasures- what more could any couple wish for? I loved Havi. A soul that could've gone dark after such a rough road at the start of life, but she remained true to herself and became an enviable character with a plethora of skills and a zest for life. Fay found her way into Havi's strong arms and nothing could separate them.
I have said it many times before, but it bears repeating- I love this series. When characters from previous books become integral to the next my smile grows bigger and my heart that much warmer. This is such a well written and fantastical sci-fi sapphic fiction that getting lost in the pages is beyond enjoyable. Each Star and each family bring with them so much to love and I cannot wait for another book!
These books are like candy - easy to read, usually a fun time if not the most memorable and full of happy queers.
This one starts off really interesting only to taper off in the excitement. While I wouldn't say it feels like instalove (both are simply quick to act on their attraction), I feel like it went too smoothly and the transition from strangers to your-friends-and-siblings-are-like-my-new-family went came up quickly. Fay and Havi are actually not the most memorable characters: a workaholic and an injured refugee who are fairly isolated and don't really do anything aside from (finding) work.
I was actually more interested in the surrounding subplots: Havi's refugee status and the situation with the stolen, malfunctioning plane and Fay's jealous work friend which took a backseat until the last 30 pages to rush through an action scene and the ending.
I don't know why but I never quite got on board with the sexual subplot of the story. It's not really written like Havi comes in and magically fixes the situation but it still ends up feeling this way? I think it would have been more believable if Fay actually had communication problems when she is, in fact, more upfront with her previous partners than with Havi, which makes the solution (the first that came to my mind) not as impactful. While I can objectively understand her anguish and fear, I found it hard to sympathize with the way she was written.
I received an advanced reading copy from Carina Press through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Really good story. This was another great book in this series. I loved the relationship between Havi and Fay. You could just tell when they met each other that the sparks would fly. I felt that even though Havi was the strongest of the two that Fay held the most strength to me in this relationship, she made Havi feel safe by just loving her for who she was and letting her be just Havi. I loved all the drama and the family and friends coming together to help them was really special, especially when Havi's past catches up with her. I highly recommend this book to my friends and family and I look forward to what's coming next from this author.
My favourite out of the series. I loved the gentle giant that was Havi and the lovely medic Fay. They made a cute couple, it was heart warming, sometimes steamy story with a little action thrown into it. I wouldn't mind getting story about Rhea next. She was infatuated with Fay after years of working together (probably thingking she was in love), but somewhere out there is her true soulmate that is meant to be with her and will show her that whatever she felt for Fay was nothing compared to what true love really is. Just an idea for Lily X in case she reads my review :)
Fay and Havi, the main couple in Safe with Me, have complementary needs and skill sets. Despite more than a few differences their relationship works well from the beginning. The tale also includes several updates into the lives of couples from previous books in the series. There is some angst, at times even a little melodrama, but this is a pleasant read.
I waited months for both book 4 AND 5 of the New World Series and the wait was TOTALLY worth it! Lily X is a skilled writer whose storytelling AND character development are superb. Add to that a healthy amount of HEAT and her books NEVER disappoint!
This is my favorite one in the New Works series. The characters were well developed and the relationship was so sweet and caring. Lily X brings in the MCs from the other books in the series which I just love. Well written and an extremely enjoyable read.
The start was quite good and the last 15% or so was good and quite exciting but in between a bit mundane for my taste. A reasonable story of 2 women getting to know each other (not just in the biblical sense!). I’ve given 2 stars but would have given 2½ if I could.
