Style: Dark Romance (Mafia)
Story: 3/5
Enjoyment: 3/5
Dark Level: 3/5
Sexual Level: SEX-CITINGLY APPEALING
Triggers: Yes
Violence: Yes
Male: Stoic and Intense
Series: 4
Pages: 345
Audio: No
Kindle Unlimited: Yes

STORY:
WHAT I LIKED:
Darkness and intensity. I love the beginning of the story, especially the first fifty percent. It caught my interest and gave me a little excitement. My 3 stars is still likable but with a few bumps in the road. Dark readers, with Lucas, you are getting the jerk, stoic, and intense alpha. This is apart of his allure when dealing with Delilah that may excite the reader if you are a lover of dark read.

WHAT WAS SO SO:
I had mixed emotions After 50% of the story. Dalila's character was exceedingly naïve. I think that was part of the allure of her character. I could not connect with her sometimes and I happened to not care about her in some sections of the story. Lucas's character, although intense, I didn't understand him so much as well. He spoke a little about his past, but I did not quite understand what nourished his dark side. His character is presented more for shock value. This was a principal/student age gap story and the age gap truly affected my experience. The story gave me most of the elements I wanted in a dark romance on the surface, but pulling all the layers back, it still felt like something was missing. Mainly why I happened to lose interest after 50% of the story, I felt as if I was stuck in the same scene but on different pages from different angles. It was repetitive in a way and I wanted to get out of the same song and dance Delilah and Lucas were still playing. I sound like an oxymoron, but I get the concept of the theme between Delilah and Lucas, but it dragged on. With feeling this way, I knew it was going to be a cliffhanger. (I tried to explain the best I could without spoiling)

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY
Their sex scenes could sometimes become intense as a result of the theme between the main characters. Throat grabbing, force intimacy and more. If you are familiar with this duo, you know what to expect.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
You should definitely familiarize yourself with the first 3 books in the series. The story picks up from book 3 with the aftermath of all that has taken place. Quinton and Aspen still have a strong presence in this story, mainly Aspen.

OVERALL:
Was I entertained? Yes
Did I like the story? Yes
Would I read/continue the other books in the series? Not sure.

TRIGGERS: violence, sexual triggers which includes punishment sex.

NOTES: No ow/om intimacy, no cheating, age gap 19-unknown and taboo relationship.

****I don't equate these stories with reality. It is a question of personal taste and what you want or want to tolerate with the books that you read. I know we all have different views and preferences when it comes to what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and although these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope that the review was helpful.

Delilah finds herself in an extremely difficult predicament and with Quinton as the leader, her situation is very dire.
Lucas, headmaster at Corium, comes into the picture to make Delilah’s life harsh and drastic to the extreme.
These characters are intense and especially unforgiving in their revenge and retaliation. I could feel Delilah’s desperation to belong somewhere and to just be loved. It was heartbreaking and so sad, especially when she finds herself in this new mess that has been her life.
What a cliffhanger this was!

Really didn’t like this one… I was hoping for better considering how much I liked Lucas in the first few books.

The whole book was the same interactions over and over again between the two mcs. It got super annoying super fast 🤦‍♀️

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Note 2: This is a series. Although the first three books feature a different couple from this book, they are all interconnected. King of Corium, Drop Dead Queen, Broken Kingdom - are Quinton and Aspen's trilogy. Ruins Of Temptation and Reign Of Freedom (Coming August 26th 2022) are Lucas and Delilah's duet. PLEASE READ IN ORDER - THEY ARE ALL CONNECTED.

Trigger warnings:sex trafficking, abandonment, drug use, alcohol use, rape, assault.

To catch yourself up to speed and what my reviews said, here are the reviews for the first three books.
1. King Of Corium: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
2. Drop Dead Queen: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
3. Broken Kingdom: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

To summarise the past stories - Delilah and a few other people in her gang (in the past it used to be Quinton as well) all aspire to torture kill, rape, you know the usual to Aspen due to her father's very heinous crimes and behaviour that affected them, and since she was brought to this school, they thought it would be a perfect way to get their revenge.
But in a very f-ed way, Quinton falls for Aspen, and they communicate about what's really going on (if only they'd try and do it in the past, oh well), which brings a plot twist about her life...but the plot twist also brings a few murders, realisations, and anger and betrayal at the forefront - which then leads to this book.

And a few more punishments as well, to reap for the sins committed to Aspen. Hence why we come to this book.

Now in this book:

Delilah is brought to be tortured, r**ped, any method to bring everyone who tried to hurt Aspen down. But you know..she's a bit different to our past doormat heroines, so she refuses to say anything. And then the torturing begins and well etc.

Lucas is the one - the antihero- the one to bring justice and bring punishment for hurting Aspen (He's a real key figure in Aspen's life).

But you know some things lead to another even while torturing..and they crave well...you know what they crave. I don't have to spell it out for you.

But in the end she runs...takes her chance thanks to kindness, but well the point at the end...cliffhanger to if she makes it or not...sheesh I almost died at that.

So yeah, I did enjoy this book to a certain degree. I probably ended up liking Lucas and Delilah more than the previous couple. Sue me.

At least she had a backbone up to a certain point, that's when the stars fell for me. Regardless, a decent, f-ed up novel, based on revenge and vengeance...and doing whatever it takes to keep your loved ones safe. Also the writing was okay, as well - the novel wasn't too long. The characters had decent f-ed physical chemistry (I know, I can't believe it either), and the side characters were few, but okay I guess in terms of pushing the plot forward.

I just think the book didn't do enough justice to the actual plot. But oh well, maybe Reign of Freedom will calm my qualms.

Until the next read,

-TMR

**SPOILER ALERT**

Firstly, I absolutely devoured the first two books.
I liked(didn’t love) the third.

I adored Aspen from the beginning and eventually learned to love Quinton as well.

This book has different main characters.
Delilah(who was introduced in book 3) and Lucas as we now know as Aspen’s Father.

Delilah is incredibly annoying and childish throughout the entire book.

Delilah spends the majority of the book despising Aspen and plotting her demise.
So of course, I was not a fan of Delilah’s to begin with.

Then Delilah pretends to befriend Aspen.
All while claiming it’s Aspen that is fake.

Delilah ends up luring Aspen away from Quinton in attempt to have her murdered.

When Lucas discovers that Delilah had done this to his daughter.
His idea of a punishment is to lock Delilah in a soundproof room and to rape her…. WHAT!?

The only positivity I can give this book is being creative and making the MFC a bully.
Which is a first for me.

Trust me when i say this book is dark with lots of triggers. So beware before you jump in.

Like Delilah to Samson, she is too become a weakness for Lucas.

Reckless Lucas in his world become stupid with his anger management and brutal ways yet a simple tracker or hearing device was lost on him.
I mean, if you already read Aspen and Quinton's story in the previous trilogy, you'll see Delilah now in reverse role from Aspen in Corium with Lucas as Quinton. Yet, Lucas not learning from experience is just bit dissapointing for me.

While Delilah, i pity her. Born unwanted. Raised with no love. Survival is her only instinct. Delilah is too hungry for love, she is blind for the truth that already smack her again and again. Her hatred and hard up to except there's true kindness out there from Aspen for example, is saying much of how broken she is.

The darkness, the f*cked up deal they both handling is going the get worst with the cliffy ending.

I got to hand it to these authors for their nrand of darkness. They seems dont have boundaries.

While for the smegsi scenes? Whoa taboo rought wicked dirty hotness! Lucas definitly know how to wake the death with his skills!

This book makes no sense
If you want revenge on someone - Why bring them to your school and if you believe them to be dangerous, why would you put them In your room?

Break her and than break for her

But really Lucas gives his own meaning to sociopathic personality

In the previous books the H found out a life changing news but instead of putting his energy into that issue, he is se*ually abusive to the h

It is dark, which I liked

But it has a not very smart and very self-centered - manipulative h, which I did not like

There is no chemistry between them so I get the 'touch her and die' but not the sudden love.
Again. No sense....

The story arc, though, has potential

Trigger warning: the Book includes non-con scenes done by the H

Didn’t like delilah . She’s so blindly in love with nash that she didn’t see the red flags. she says he saved her but honestly he took advantage of her situation. she blamed aspen without knowing the whole story and also she didn’t get affected much by what they all did to aspen. I mean she’s fucked up for watching the video and then getting fucked by wearing a blonde wig and still dumb enough to not leave that shitty nash. She just wanted to get her revenge. she’s the type which don’t leave their husbands/boyfriends even after clearly seeing all the horrible things they do , thinking the fake promises they made will be fulfilled. She just knew nash was fucked up but still didn’t want to leave him as he was the only person who “loved” her and they were going to marry someday in the future. Yeah girl he loved you so much that he sent you to a fucking brothel 🤷🏻‍♀️💀
Lucas was fine , better than delilah

- I’m excited to read Lucas story
- damn he’s harsh
- i knew him and Lauren had history
- why the hell is she so mad at aspen for??
- wow I feel bad for her
- I guess if she doesn’t know the role Nash played then it’s understandable
- he has a serious lack of conviction with the way he just gave in to he then SAME night he finds out about the trust fund
- all this girl knows is misunderstanding smhhh
- why is the age gap mentioned or not concerned about?
- she knows how shitty Nash is. Like he literally made her watch the video of aspen getting brutally gang raped. She knew what happened. And she still wants to do this for Nash??
- ummmm so she did know Nash’s role…. And still chose to go ahead with what she did… I can’t. I can’t forgive her for that
- I’m not sorry but Preston had it right. Is she really that frkcin stupid???
- I can’t feel sorry for her. I just can’t

* thank you to Candi Kane PR and the authors for giving me this arc.*

First of all let me start this off by saying that Broken Kingdom is my #1 book so far this year so take all I say with a grain of salt. I also reread the trilogy last month which apparently end up being a big mistake on my part cause I LOVE Q, Aspen and even Lucas and reading this book made it very clear to me how much I’m attached to Q and Aspen.

I was neutral towards Delilah until this book. Right from the beginning of this book I didn’t liked her and that feeling just exploded to just hate. It started off with little things like mentioning Aspen as Q’s “little wife” and things like that and then it just evolved from there.
After everything she knows about Q and what he’s capable of, what happened to Aspen plus Aspen showed her mercy and granted her a second chance and what did she do? She stabs everyone in the back and spits on the hand who helped her. Aspen is really too good for this world! Delilah thinks that she was the one who had it bad her whole life and no one else. Making fun of Aspen’s circumstances just makes me wanna slap her up and down.
She makes stupid decisions after stupid decisions and so I can’t enjoy this book that I thought I would.
Lucas let me down a bit, he’s in a dog house with me but I still like him.
As for sexy times, I really didn’t enjoy them. Not because it wasn’t sexy but because Delilah was evolved.
Yeah, I can really hold a grudge. 🤷‍♀️

Q and Aspen showing up were the highlights of this book as well as getting to know more about Lucas and Nic.

I will read this book again maybe at the end of the year cause until then I will hopefully forget how much I LOVE Q and Aspen. I realize that’s wishful thinking but I really want to like this duet cause I like Lucas.

This book was so dark my under eye bags couldn't even compete.

I've never read a book with such horrible characters. It wasn't just the things that they do which are horrible, but just their own selves. I enjoyed every moment of it. The things I liked reading the most were the disturbing ones. The feeling was foreign, troubling, and it makes me feel uncomfortable. I love making myself unnerved, unhinged even. That's why I love reading stories with dark themes. This book was just that.

There was no romance as much as there was primal, raw, punishing sex. No running off to the sunset and whispering sweet nothings as much as there were confinement in a cell with no food nor water for days and hissed words of malice and disgust. Ruins of Temptation was as dark as they can get and with all honesty, I can say that I found the experience of reading this book entertaining.

I used to believe that there were no bad people, only people who do bad things. Luke and Delilah, the main characters of this book, weren't one of those people. There were reasons why and how they turned out the way they were and sometimes, life was just like that. I still liked reading about their descent to hell as they succumb to self-destruction.

The story revolves around Luke and how he continues to fight the darkness inside of him as he make it up to his newly-found daughter. He's had deep dark cravings, which were vile and evil. He was trying to turn a new leaf and put what he used to be in the past, for the sake of his daughter, Aspen.

Aspen had been through so much pain and suffering, her husband (then-boyfriend) Quentin, and father both failing her before, leaving her in the hands of a different kind of evil than the men in her life. She was strong, though, and she continues her fight living each day and still believing in the good in others. She's my favorite character in this book.

Luke only recently discovered his relation with Aspen and he was determined to keep her safe and for her to not end up in the same horrible nightmare of a situation as before. He was ready to maim, torture, and kill for her.

This is a tale of Luke's self-realization, of him accepting the darkness lurking underneath the perfect façade he was trying to maintain, and accepting that part of him. It was also about him embracing his whole self even as it meant unleashing it one tormenting moment at a time. And the subject of his release? A mysterious girl named Delilah.

He cared for his daughter and in his own way, even loved her. But not even during the momentary show of how he should treat Delilah like a real person that she was, as he should for being a decent human being, can take away from the fact that he meant to hurt, humiliate, and punish her. He reveled in it, enjoyed it, and he did because he relished in her misery. This negates all the progress that he'd built when it comes to his relationship with his daughter.

Delilah was a blank piece of canvas who was associated with the men who made Aspen suffer, and for that she must, too. With her lips locked and her words conniving and untrustworthy, Luke kept her on a tight leash just as what Quentin had done when he abducted her and left her to the mercy of his depraved bodyguards who wasted no time to assault her - even a dog was treated better.

She was hiding something and while Luke was determined to find out what, he also found himself making Delilah the object of his pent up frustrations. He took everything out on her, letting loose the demons he tried so hard to kept at bay throughout the years. It didn't help that Delilah seemingly wanted it and everything that he throws at her.

The girl was alone, unloved, and uncared for. After what Quentin and Luke subjected her to, she Delilah found it hard to trust everything Luke does or says, which was only natural and understandable, considering the way she was brought up.

Delilah was manipulative and untrusting. She was loyal to the people who were as evil as and were no better than the people who held her captive. The slightest bit of kindness shown to her unnerves her, as one who was in an abusive and neglective home should feel. No wonder she soaked up every tiny bit of affection thrown her way and she let the wrong man to take her under his wing. With Luke, it was no different. It was right that she kept herself detached and closed off, but one mistake out of foolishness landed her in deep waters with the man who would stop at nothing to ensure his daughter's safety.

The book ended on a cliffhanger with what I presume to be two other books to follow, like the first trilogy in the Corium University series which was about Quentin and Aspen. The authors were brave to pen such a dark and twisted book. The writing was not the best but the book itself has a great potential. I guess this book has nothing to offer other than the disturbing scenes and the way the main characters treat each other which aims to cause distress upon the readers in order to hide the bland plot and its holes; the underdeveloped and awful characters (especially Luke who was only an echo of Quentin and who doesn't have a distinct quality at all); and the failed effort to present romance in this book - even as dark romance - and not merely hateful lust, which was what it truly was.

Hottest scene: bathtub scene (but they don't take a bath)

Also: I'd appreciate it if the authors actually put up a list of triggers Triggers being spoilers is not an excuse. A lot of books with dark themes that I've read provide a list of triggers and it never took away from reading the book. It would seem like only those who are insecure of their stories are afraid of giving spoilers by providing trigger warnings. This is very important to me for the people who have triggers. It's only fair to them to include those triggers instead of worrying about potential spoilers. If the book was written well and the story was good, there's no need to worry about handing over those warnings. The experience was still the same. Not even a link was provided by the authors of this book. If the reader wants to see the warnings for this book, they have to e-mail the authors personally. Too much of a trouble if it was me, good thing I don't have triggers, and this book was really at the precipice.

This book was really intense. It definitely started out with a bang! It's veryyyyy dark so mind the triggers! While the story was something that appealed to me- a taboo age gap romance with lotssss of dark moments- it just didn't come together for me. The writing seemed a little choppy and unrealistic. I didn't really feel any sexual tension between the two main characters.

Three stars! I recommend it if you like dark romances. I haven't read the other books in this series- not sure I will. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Impresssions…

Original and so good. Captive meets new captor, and his monster wants to come out and thrive. But Delilah is fierce and more than capable of confronting Lucas, of sassing Lucas, and wielding their sexual attraction. But Lucas is no one’s fool, and wait until he’s unleashed. Wait until he relinquishes his darkness, now mixed with guilt and a little self-hatred from a past unrealized with his daughter. Then add that to Delilah’s deceit, or is it?

Delilah and Lucas are explosive. And their story is filled with cautious trust, distrust, passionate attraction, and hidden agenda. Great romantic suspense and a lot of intrigue.

This series gets better and better. The lengths one goes to protect and avenge the ones they love.

It's hard liking this book and the heroine. Not my favorite book by the duo J.L. Beck and C. Hallman, but it's not the worst. It's not a standalone, so you have to be familiar with the first 3 books in the series, which is about Quinton and Aspen's story.

Ruins of Temptation has a lot of potential, but there are several problems with it. First, the beginning. The authors choose to write briefly about the time in which Delilah (main heroine) is kept imprisoned by Quinton and his goons. While the background info we get is appreciated, the buildup to Lucas (hero) and Delilah's first meeting is rather lackluster. It isn't anything compelling or interesting, so it was rather a disappointment to me.

Two of the biggest issues I have with the book, however, has to do with Delilah's character and the chemistry between her and Lucas, or rather, lack of. No chemistry between the two leads is the #1 letdown for me in a struggling story. It doesn't help when Delilah is such a horrible character. She's nothing short of cold and calculating and manipulative, if not evil.

But storyline is interesting, especially with that cliffhanger. Not as heart-tugging as the previous cliffhangers in Aspen and Quinton's books, but still engaging enough. Definitely will be hoping that Delilah will redeem herself, and the same goes for Lucas, cause I'm not too crazy for him, either. So, a fair 3 stars, even though I was thinking of 2 stars. 😅

Wow, this was dark…and hot…and wow. I entered this book with so many questions and while I’m still not 100% sure how I feel about Lucas and Delilah, most of the questions I have left are about myself. (I don’t like this, do I? I think I like this? 😅👀)

I hate Delilah. Loathe her. But I absolutely love to hate her. She makes me feel so many things and I can’t wait to see how my feelings about her develop in the next book. She’s smart, yet so painfully naive, and and strong but so very broken. She gave me moments where I felt sorry for her, then followed them up with moments where I wanted to shake her and scream right in her face. I want to love her, I do. But I’m certainly not there yet.

Lucas is so dark…like pitch black hole dark. He is the anti-hero you love to hate and hate to love and left me wondering if I wanted to jump him or JUMP him the entire time.

“Are you flirting with other guys to make me jealous? Either way, I think you need a reminder of who this pussy belongs to.”

One thing that’s for certain, though, is that their chemistry is undeniable. Delilah can’t seem to understand why she wants a man who punishes her at every turn and Lucas can’t seem to stop protecting the woman he loathes. I loved it. I can’t wait for more of it.

Just like the rest of the Corium University world, this was full of mystery, twists, and turns that kept me fully engrossed. And the cliffhanger ending both broke my heart and left me fumbling for Reign of Freedom asap.

This book was just as good as the Kings of Corium series. This is a continuation of the story following different characters.

Poor Delilah I feel so bad for her. What all she goes through is horrible. But she remains strong. When will her life ever ease up.

Lucas on the other hand…. I can’t stand him! He is so mean. He has rage like no other.

I loved this story so much. It had so many twists and turns I didn’t know what was going to happen next. It’s full of suspense and action. I loved Delilah but we shall see about Lucas right now it’s a NOPE. The way the story ended…. That cliffhanger…. I wanted to throw the iPad! So good *chefs 💋 *

Thanks Candi Kane PR and authors for the ARC! I highly appreciate it.

First thing first! So I was asked by my book bestie to read the first three books in the series. While I enjoyed every bit of it, I was looking forward to Lucas' book because obviously his personality fascinated me the most, especially after the big revelation.

Being a lover of characters with dark and damaged past, I was looking forward to Delilah's story with Lucas. Though I don't enjoy boss bitch heroines, here Delilah's past and her vulnerabilities made me fall in love with her.

Now, let me just clear this. Aspen and Q fans might feel devastated by the way Delilah was talking about them because let's just agree with the fact that she's not fond of Aspen because she's from the enemy's side and till the very end of the book you will find her hating them.

Personally, it didn't trigger me much, but there were slight things that bothered me. But if you understand where Delilah was coming from and her past then you'll realise why she behaved the way she behaved.

I knew it's going to be a cliffhanger but little did I know it's going to end like this. I mean, wtf, what the actual fu**!

I am looking forward to reading the next book eagerly.

5/5 for the smut and character development. I love Delilah and Lucas through and through.

I loved Lucas after everything that happened during the first 3 books, once he showed his true self, I loved him and truly understood him. I didn't though, not like I thought I did.

Delilah, I don't know how to feel about her.. I feel sorry for her, but like Lucas I'm torn between loving and hating her. I hate all that she's played a part in, no matter how small and I hate her manipulative side, but I also understand it a bit. I know her upbringing wasn't great, but still.

Lucas and Delilah together however, that's a whole different story, they are explosive and hot! The chemistry is obvious even when they are tearing each other down and fighting it with everything they have. I want to see them happy and thriving but the walls these two have around their hearts are so high it's going to take a miracle to knock them down.

I loved getting to see Aspen and Q, those two have my heart and I loved seeing them and seeing that they haven't changed. I hate how trusting Aspen is, it hurts my heart to know the world isn't as beautiful and sweet as she wants to believe it is. Even worse I wanted to scream at her when she was so trusting of Delilah, even after everything. Aspen is so good and wholesome and I love it as much as I hate it.

I can't wait to see what happens next. The cliffy on this book is as legit as the others in this series and nonetheless jaw dropping when it happened. I didn't even see it coming, that's what I get for getting so engrossed in a book I'm not paying attention to how much is left in the book before I can't turn any more pages.

***Received free arc for an honest review***

I was really excited about this book, especially since I loved Q and Aspen's book. In order to understand this book, you have to read the previous books.
I could not wait for Lucas' book!

This story follows Lucas and Delilah. Lucas has just found out something big and his life will never be the same. He is Aspen's dad and now he is unsure of how to become the father that she needs.
Delilah is on a mission to stay alive, all her life she is used to people using and ignoring her.

Without giving too much away, I did not feel as excited about this book compared to the others. I love Lucas, with the few glimpses of his past, he has changed and grown a lot.
Delilah's character is someone I am not sure about. I understand her past but she was not someone I could like, let alone love to read about. I just found her annoying and bland.

I love Aspen and Q, they are absolutely perfect. I gave this book 4/5 because we got snippets of them.

Lucas is the principal of Corium University. He just found out that Aspen is his daughter and that Aspen’s husband Quinton has captured someone who was involved in Aspen’s kidnapping and torture.

Delilah is the sister of Aspen’s captor, Matteo. Delilah claims she’s innocent but Lucas doesn’t buy it. Lucas and Quinton can’t prove her involvement but they also don’t trust her, so Lucas allows her to attend Corium University so they can keep an eye on her.

Lucas doesn’t trust Delilah but he’s having a hard time controlling himself around her too. She’s just so tempting for him to dominate.

There were some moments in here that I thought should’ve been better explained or taken out but the storyline was great! And I’m such a fan of this Corium University series. This does end in a cliffhanger so you’ll have to wait to get closure.

When a secret is revealed life as Lucas knows it will never be the same. He comes across as the stern and demanding headmaster but that masks a dark and dangerous side that is about to emerge when it comes to Delilah.

Delilah past actions when it comes to Aspen and Quinton are about to be turned back on her with a vengeance. She has had to build walls around her by necessity, but she hides a vulnerable side that Lucas is going to use against her.

Both Lucas and Delilah are conflicted by their feelings for each other as what begins as a quest for revenge takes a twist that neither saw coming. Suspense, surprises and steam as you wonder what comes next for this couple.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I swear each new book these two add to this series just hooks me all over again to this amazing characters. Delilah is a piece of work. I was really not finding myself liking her too much for quite some time. Throw in the explosive interactions she has with Lucas to really get one dark and twisted romance that will keep you turning the page despite yourself as you get sucked in over and over again. Makes for a great addition to this series and I am looking forward to the next one. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
