I'm a tiny bit obsessed with reality shows so I couldn't wait to get my grabby hands on this.I mean a Cowboy and a Hipster twinky guy had my name written all over it.
Walker really had no idea what he'd let himself in for when the production team arrive with all their demands. But his farm is in need of the money that the show will pay him and it's only six weeks then he can just walk away.
Roan had his reasons for applying to become a contestant on a reality show where a Cowboy is looking for a husband and it certainly isn't love. With his mother ill he needs the money for medical bills and treatment. And the longer he stays on the show, the more money he'll get.
There's an immediate attraction between them but it worked for me.Opposites attract so it seems....
-Walker was a bit grumpy,a bit broody, and just a bit sexy,
- I loved the relationship he had with his father and step mother,
-Roan with his skinny jeans and styled hair was such a vulnerable and endearing character and his love for his mother was beautifully portrayed,
-it's a slow burn without a doubt but it wouldn't have worked any other way and the sexy times (when they get going) are super hot.
-given the subject of the story there is a lot about reality tv and how it's directed which did get a bit repetitive at times.Having said that I liked how the story evolved, the chapters at the beginning almost like watching each episode of your favourite show and I'm sure some of the characters here behind the scenes were (unfortunately) true to life.
An enjoyable story that I would definitely recommend.
I couldn't get enough of this story! I haven't watched television in forever, but I used to love all the reality competition shows, especially America's Next Top Model (don't judge me!), Top Chef, and Project Runway. I'm well aware the "reality" in reality TV isn't real; it's scripted, edited, and polished within an inch of its life.
As such, I wasn't surprised that a bachelor type show featuring a hot gay cowboy plus numerous sexy men wanting to rope him in would be laden with drama. Walker, the cowboy in question, isn't actually seeking a husband. He's doing the show to save his family ranch.
Most of the contestants are in it for the money too, although some just want their ten seconds of fame.
Roan, the femme, quirky guy who catches Walker's eye from day one, is there because his mom's medical bills are mounting, and Roan needs money for an experimental treatment for her late-stage cancer.
There is a LOT going on in this book: scary TV producers who hold all the power, family angst (Roan's dying mom, plus Walker's elderly father who's not managing his diabetes very well), contestants vying for Walker's attention, catfish noodling (this is a thing; google it), cow emergencies, ex-boyfriends crawling out of the woodwork, and sex on a horse (you read that right; it was strangely erotic).
Despite the numerous distractions, the time Roan and Walker spend together didn't feel forced. The intimacy between them was palpable; they gravitated toward one another like magnets, and everyone noticed. I liked some of the other contestants, especially Ben, and would love to read their stories.
I never felt like the ever-present reality TV drama detracted from the men's relationship. The UST simmered with passion as Roan and Walked tried to snatch private moments to be together, which was damn near impossible considering the crew and cameras everywhere.
The ending wasn't exactly what I expected, and that's a good thing. Walker and Roan do get their HEA (and what a glowing HEA it is) but not without some jealousy, hurt, loss, and tears.
I loved the last few chapters. The way Roan let go ... oooohboy, talk about crazy sexy. Giddy up, cowboy, indeed.
It’s been a long time since I started a book before bed and read until dawn. I can count on my fingers how times I have forgone sleep because I was at an authors mercy. This story snagged me, consumed me, and is still holding me tight. The little sleep I caught was filled with horses, sharks, and catfish. And now, here I am, bleary-eyed, talking about them while I sip my much-needed coffee. Yes, it’s silly and funny. Yes, it’s based on an “unscripted” (not) “real-life matchmaking” (again, not) reality show. Yes, the passion begins a bit down the dusty road. And yes, at the core it’s about two men, struggling with life and looking for relief in the means of financial support. But when it comes down to it, it’s so much more. Their reasons are different but both Walker and Roan are driven to desperate measures when they agree to participate in the new gay bachelor reality show, Queer Seeks Spouse. This is the first season, so the pressure is on. Walker isn’t really looking for love and certainly not a husband. His best friend threw his hat in the ring, never expecting him to be selected. Alas, here he is and suddenly he has the chance to save his family’s ranch. Roan’s driving force is heartrending. He’s an only child raised by his single mother and she’s the crux of his world. And she’s terminal, on the verge of losing a short but fierce battle with cancer. He would do anything for her, including subjecting himself to unwanted drama at the hands of reality tv. This premise isn’t new. But what’s distinct with this ‘opposites attract’ and ‘fake romance’ trope is the characters and their accidental fall. They weren’t supposed to actually fall in love. This was just a pseudo affair leading the way to a fat paycheck. Right? Hmmm…..
What's to like: I enjoyed this writing collaboration and hope there are many more stories to come. We are taken behind the scenes and experience the inner workings of reality television. I wasn’t fond of the production team, which I’m sure was intended. Most of the competing bachelors are distant and fuzzy. I didn’t mind. I was grateful that only the small handful of significant guys were brought into the light. It could easily have become heavy with too many faces. Ben and Chad stood right out and I enjoyed both immensely. I’m hoping we see more of Ben in the future, he deserves a fairy tale ending!
What's to love: Walker. *sigh* A genuine cowboy. Manners, respect, dedication…and a huge heart. He cherishes his parents, cares for his hired hands and loves tending to the everlasting needs of the ranch. Perhaps he is lonely but he’s been too busy to notice. After he’s survived the circus of this “production” he might have time to spare for a man. Maybe. But this six-week ordeal has one purpose and one purpose only…cold hard cash. When a cutie in a bow tie stumbles onto his porch, well, let’s just say he makes quite the impression. The smart thing would be to eliminate him and remove the distraction. But every time he sees him or interrupts a private conversation, he finds his soft spot for the man growing. Roan doesn’t know what he’s doing. He remembers why he’s come to the ranch (as if he could forget) but at times he questions his sanity. He shouldn’t be away from his mom, he shouldn’t be falling for this humid foreign land…and most of all, he definitely shouldn’t be smitten with Walker. Just when the sparks catch fire and threaten to become an inferno, the air is sucked out. I held my breath, my eyes welled and I couldn’t put it down. And honestly, what’s not to love about that??
Beware of: As with any reality show, I think it’s important to suspend…reality. There is a timeline…it moves along quickly and takes a sorrowful turn. And a late-night horse ride that will burn into your memory…singe and sear baby.
This book is for: I smiled, snickered, wept, and melted. If you’re looking for the full monty of feels, this little lion and his cowboy are exactly what you need.
Right off the bat, I sort of knew that I wouldn't jive with this story. I am not a devotee of shows like The Bachelor, but since I have such a strong history with Leta Blake, I decided to give it a go anyway. I should have gone with my gut.
I didn't like really anything about the story, though it's hard for me to articulate exactly why nothing clicked with me. I didn't like the dating set up and the constant miscommunications and manipulations (and, yes, I know that's part of the reality show set up!). I just wanted my two MCs to get to know one another and spend some freaking time together, and that was just not happening in this story.
The romance felt SO underdeveloped. It was almost insta-love, that's how fast these two fell for one another. I couldn't see how any real romance could flourish in those conditions. I didn't like most of the side characters, and I just struggled with the whole plot of the story.
I did learn a good deal about reality show filming (accurate or not), and it made me feel... oddly hurt? Weird reaction, but I don't like the idea that we are all so thoroughly manipulated.
Just a bad fit for me, unfortunately. I was hoping to love this one but it didn't pan out that way.
I LOVED this story, even though I hated it at the same time too.
I picked this one up, because I often stumbled across reality dating shows on TV. I’m not a fan of those at all, but somehow a romance novel with THAT particular theme did sound interesting to me.
And the set up actually was.
A cowboy bachelor who is looking for a husband among a bunch of strangers staying at his farm and dating him, with weekly elimination rounds.
Totally crazy.
And unfortunately, the way all men were described as actually being interested in the money and publicity only, instead of Walker, the cowboy, as a man and potential partner, kinda ruined the whole set up for me. I guess that’s what you are NOT supposed to see on TV, even though I have no doubt it is a reality.
However, Roan’s story (his mom, OMG…) was so heartfelt and perfect, I couldn’t do anything but fall for him right away. And so did Walker…
Roan’s story totally tore me up and turned out to be unexpectedly dramatic in what I assumed to be a sappy romance novel.
I also loved how Walker and Roan slowly found each other instead of hooking up at every opportunity. And the final intimate moment was like an explosion. So powerful, unique and simply breathtaking!
I also LOVED Ben, a mysterious side character from the TV show whose real feelings remain a riddle. I do hope he gets his own book too, because what we’ve seen of him here makes him a SPECTACULAR romance character. I’d literally drop EVERYTHING to read his story!!
If it wasn’t for Roan, he would have been a great love interest for Walker (even though we know now that Walker likes young slim guys like Roan, LOL)…
Anyway, despite the fact that I kept yelling at these producers (who TF brings in an ex-boyfriend on a dating show?? Who would ever want to get back together with an ex when he has a house full of hot hunks to choose from?!?)

🌟🐄🌟🐄🌟🐄🌟
Indra and I are thrilled to release Cowboy Seeks Husband! We tried to make it fluffy, y'all, but our editor said we didn't quite succeed. Still, hopefully it's fluffy enough! We hope you enjoy the read! Thank you!
Fun, hot, entertaining, hilarious, but also sad and emotional! It’s a winner. It was a solid 5 stars until 80% but the last few chapters dragged and dragged, and I even got a little bored of a very long sex scene. But the first sex scene was 🔥🔥🔥. OMG.
Instalovey, and filled with manufactured reality TV drama, the book managed to make it fun and interesting and full of feelings. I think the key here was that the MCs reacted in a realistic and mature way instead of running away and breaking up over nothing like in a lot of romances.
The ending was ridiculous but fitted the story perfectly.
I’m fine with that. What I wasn’t fine with was the very slow development of the story, the constant intrusion of the reality show producers—which I assume is true to form—and the flatness of the other bachelors.
I went from really liking the beginning to wanting it to end. We had no sexy times until 60% of the book (although it was a great scene on horseback)!! Then, we get treated to a 4 chapter long full-on sex scene towards the end of the book.
What chemistry these guys had for each other fizzled away in the drama of the reality show and one of the MCs personal life.
My rec: If you love reality shows and want to know how they work behind the scenes, go for it. For me, the set up got in the way of the characters.
***** This is a delightful take on a 6 week reality show theme, but this time it is a gay man seeking a husband. It's fresh, different and heartwarming. We are caught up in our guys right away. In Louisiana we have Walker Reed, 36, a cowboy who is need of money to save his "Reeds Ranch" that was devastated by a hurricaine. Roan, 28, in Ohio, needs money to pay for his Mom's cancer treatment bills, and hopes to get the new treatment that might save her. The filming will take place on Walker's cattle ranch. * Walker is strong, steadfast and honest, and plays no games. The men who are brought to win his heart are a mixed bag; where one doesn't know if he's gay, one is an actor, one is a jackass, and more. The one who is the most fun for Walker is sassy Roan. The program's staff are hardcore and want drama. I loved sweet Roan's attitude, and Walker's Southern manners. We see behind the scenes production. We truly get a slow burn romance here, because the men get to know each other a bit and it's wonderful. We watch the weeks fly by as the antics unfold, like the "noodling" date. Later, when Roan gets a call, he must hop a plane back to his Mom, and when Walker finally finds out, he boards a plane to Ohio, to be with Roan. Eventually, we get their off-the-charts sexy time, which is fabulous ! It is a marathon of pleasure as Walker has Roan gasping, writhing, straining, rubbing, swearing and trusting. It is hot, primal, and bliss-filled, with sighs, moaning, clenching, caressing, surprises, shouts and shudders, all while being salacious, lusty, erotic and earthy.
To me this story is sublime. I love these two authors, Leta Blake and Indra Vaughn, who also co-wrote "Vespertine," and of course they're separate books, too.
I highly recommend this entertaining, thought-filled tale. ENJOY !
This is my second “gay bachelor reality show” trope book. While there’s nothing wrong with this book, I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. 🤷♀️ Comparing with my very first gay bachelor book called “The Most Eligible Bachelor” written by Delmire Hart which I gushed and raved over and loved it to the moon and back and invoked so many emotions in me, this book barely kept my interest in finishing it. 🙂 If you are looking for heat folks, go elsewhere because literally nothing happened until 90% mark. 😑 This is so heavy on reality show thingy and so light in romance. I never felt like I truly connected with either character. Although the epilogue was dreamy and lovely, I definitely needed more love from the whole novel to have enjoyed it more.
The blurb sounded like fun, and it was, as long as you don't take this book seriously.
This highly talented author duo wrote one of my most favourite books: 'Vespertine.' And I had expectations. Not that 'Cowboy Seeks Husband' would be as angsty and heart-wrenching. It is obvious that we are dealing with a completely different kettle of fish here. But I kind of hoped I would be blown away.
I was not. I enjoyed it fine. I particularly liked the look behind the makings of a 'reality' TV show. Not that we didn't guess how fabricated and false all the ongoings are, but it is pretty educational to look at it more closely. Another highlight was the art of 'noodling'. Argh! I have no idea why people do that, but again I felt educated in a very entertaining way!
But ... something didn't 100% gel for me. Roan is 27, and he is supposed to be cute in his twinky ways. To me he comes across like a whining teenager at times, and as a result I could not quite bond with him. Walker is about 10 years older and a steadfast guy, and I genuinely liked him, but without wasting too much emotional energy on it. Maybe I didn't quite get why these two fall in love? Maybe I expected more banter? Their attraction seems to be based on mere visuals to start with. And they develop feelings when they really don't know each other at all.
I guess some of the plot left me a bit unsatisfied. But only when you start looking at it in a serious way. It is supposed to be a fun book (and it is) after all, where you can forgive and forget plot developments which are maybe a bit questionable.
This would have been a clear 3,5 stars if it hadn't been for the two absolutely scorching, brilliantly written sex scenes (apart from that there isn't a lot of PDA going on) This is when Walker and Roan really click. And they are incredibly hot together. Never read anything like that scene on the horse (yes!). To me these are the moments where the MCs feel most real, strangely enough.
All over verdict: I enjoyed this, but it didn't knock me off my chair. I am sure many people will love it, particularly if you like the background of a reality TV show. (and all the bitching that comes with it!)
Also need to say I felt really bad and so sorry for Ben. I assume he will get a book of his own?
This story didn't sit well with me. All the lying and conniving and manipulation going on made me a little ill. And the contestants putting up with it purely for money. The awful invasion of privacy made me cringe over and over. There were several plot points I had a problem with but I don't want to post any spoilers.
To top it off, there were so many typos.
Sorry, just not my thing I guess. I don't watch any of these TV shows either. 🙈
The only thing that made it ok for me were the two MCs. Overall I liked both of them.
This one really worked for me. I enjoyed the reality show premise - something I could NEVER stomach doing myself.
It had lots of laugh out loud moments and holy smokes were Roan and Walker HOT together. There may not have been a ton of steamy scenes between them but that horse scene and the last chapter. H.A.W.T.
I'm definitely a Leta Blake fan and this one was a winner for me. Recommend.
I mostly enjoyed this one, but there were some niggles too.
The setting was very interesting - the making of a reality show. I personally have no experience with reality tv (not with watching it nor with how it's supposed to be behind the scenes) so I have no idea how close to reality (hah) this setting was, but it was all I imagined and worse. The novelty wore off into the second half of the book though.
Their falling in love was somewhat artificial considering the setting - and they were well aware of it too. But what left me disappointed is .
The last sex scene spanned over three chapters and managed to literally put me to sleep. A bit of an overkill, if you ask me 🙄
But none of the issues were exactly a deal-breaker for me and overall I enjoyed the story. 3 stars
Well that was a surprise. I loved the idea behind this book, the fakeness of a reality TV show, the idea of two men falling for each other despite the manipulations.
For the most part it delivered perfectly on the premise and the wee bit of kink that snuck in towards the end as Roan and Walker got fully invested was delicious.
But there were bits where I felt the narrative dropped, if not a clanger, then more of a hiccup in how it dealt with threads brought up earlier.
It's difficult to highlight them without spoilers though and I don't want to use tags either as I still think it will work better for the reader if they don't know in advance.
Almost like you've been watching the TV show itself, the plot unfolds in distinct chapters and as as it drew closer to the end, I did feel the tension rising.
Surprisingly, it's only moderate steam, there's a single sexy encounter during the show filming and the majority of the book is slow burn until the final ten percent.
I also felt like everything wrapped up a bit quickly and there were threads left open which may be there to kick off another book and turn this into a series, which I'd be down for.
But, as always with both of these authors, there's some gorgeous emotions, great prose and I was happy with where the epilogue took the characters.
#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
Really not worked for me. I read to 60% and skimmed a little but it was hard going.
There's a bunch of interchangeable characters, little time is spent with them and they're inconsistent, as are the main characters. Coming away from the book my lasting impression is of what a bitch the female producer was. Scenes are set up then skipped so the only characters to interact are the main pair, no need for the other contestants to be there. Zero chemistry with the main pair coming from completely different worlds. After four week we're supposed to believe it's love and proposal time despite Roan being out of his depth on a ranch and Walker having no real knowledge of Roan and his life. There's copious manipulation giving a very negative view of 'reality' tv (I'm not a fan anyway) and contrived situations with only surface reactions.
I was looking for a fluffy read but this is irritating.
Sorry, reading details about the (many!) side characters such as TV crew members and parents of the MCs were just too boring. As far as I got into the story, the main characters have yet to meet but the feel of the coming romance arc was ok. Unfortunately status updates indicate all the things I didn't enjoy will continue to feature heavily throughout. So cutting my losses early.
That was a fun read. It was like a behind the scenes of the Gay Bachelor. I enjoyed the MCs and found some secondary characters a bit more annoying- Molly for one. While I understand the storyline, I did feel the book was frustratingly slow. SO long for any build of connections that it lost a little spark. Regardless of the pace, I enjoyed this.
4.25 Stars I sat down to read this, and I’m not entirely sure I did much more today besides sit here and read, or devour, this book. I thought it was going to be a bit of catty fun, the behind the scenes of the first ever a dating show featuring gay contestants. I don’t give a flip about “The Bachelor” but this show I’d watch. The best part of it all was the feels this managed to illicit from me, some were sad and others just plain hot, I was pissed and defiant to down right teaming with the desire to slap a bitch. So, while it was fun to read, it wasn’t all sugar sweet and had substance. I definitely recommend reading.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fun and very steamy read. Actually I was surprised how much I liked it, given that the setting (a gay reality/dating show, i.e. think "Bachelor") isn't really my cup of tea. But I especially love how this book deftly brings together a large cast of characters and gives us what feels like an accurate behind-the-scenes view of any number of so-called "reality shows" while delivering a top-notch romance that is sexy and sweet and everything in between.
Walker needs money - money to keep his family ranch solvent - and he's reluctantly willing to make his life an open book for six weeks while producers and camera crews from a reality show take over his Louisiana ranch. Roan needs money as well - his mother has stage four cancer and her only hope is an expensive experimental drug. There's an instant attraction between the two and their first "noodling" date is absolutely hilarious. Because I really want Roan and Walker to get together, at times the pace of the story feels a bit slow, but I also like how the authors take the time to flesh out contestants like Ben who is dealing with his newly-discovered bisexuality and give us some insight into Walker's family.
The chemistry between the two also really works, as they are continually c@ckblocked by the producers and their darn body mics and cameras yet try to find ways to carve out a few private moments. And once they finally get away for an erotic moonlight horse ride, omigawd it is definitely worth the wait. There are some unexpected hiccups before their happy ending, but everything seems to fit perfectly into the plot and seems necessary rather than manufactured angst to extend the drama. 4.5 stars and a Recommended Read for "Cowboy Seeks Husband."
I received an ARC from the authors in exchange for an honest review.
I don't watch any of the dating shows (and never have). But I DID watch the first few episodes of season one of UnReal and was horrified by the level of drama fostered by the producers in order to force a narrative...
A lot of that is definitely at play here. And probably why I didn't like it as much as other readers.
But I appreciate how so many of the contestants were portrayed as in it for the money. That seemed incredibly honest...and I'd rather see that kind of competition (the emotional anguish porn isn't appealing). The middle part of the story dragged on some, but I did like the ending. All in all, the books WAS well-written, and if not intentional then an eerily insightful look at those reality shows.
I didn't expect this story to absolutely consume me like it did. Whoa. Cowboy meets hipster. Who knew? It was freaking GOLD.
Walker lives on his parents ranch. His dad is getting older and weather issues have drained the savings so finances are tight. A new reality show offered $300K to Walker to become the first gay bachelor-type show in history. And he took it. But it isn't like anything he's ever experienced and all of the suitors are overwhelming.
Roan needs money. His mom is dying. His last chance is this cowboy bachelor show. If he can just make it a few weeks, he'll have enough to get his mom into a medical trial that could save her life. He just has to make sure to keep his feelings out of this. And it turns out it's harder than he thought.
I devoured the words here. Honestly, I really didn't expect this light-hearted story to impact me so much, but the writing was so great. The characters were so deep. The romance was so tender. I loved the dialogue. I loved the little accessory things like the fact that Roan wore glasses for fun. That Walker had a bit of a kinky side. That they didn't take life too seriously, but still cared so deeply.
Honestly, I could recommend everything about this story. Yes, the setup was a bit cheesy, but it was all in fun and the MC's really made this story so consuming and lovely. Go get it and read it and you'll be glad you did.

I obviously liked it since I read it in one day. In fact I loved it until about 87% into the book. I didn’t like how things changed. It really made the rest of the book hard for me.
I first feel the need to say I've never watched a reality dating show, ever. I find them ridiculous and make a mockery of love and romance. Having said that, THIS story, Cowboy Seeks Husband, was CUTE! And had a more serious tone to it than I was expecting. Walker needs money to help his ranch; Roan needs money to help with mother, both decide to participate in the new tv dating show, not expecting to find real romance. Boy were they wrong! Walker and Roan had an instant connection that they couldn't fight, despite the producers trying! I never once pulled out my doubting squinty eye, and that's saying something! If you are looking for a gay version to the Bachelor/Bachelorette, here is a good story for you; just ignore the asshole producers and annoying interruptions and rules.
Sweet ending for the couple, and it would have been nice to know what Roan was going to do for a "living" but all in all, a good story.
1. That poor horse. (I know, honestly I should just stop reading this author having established I have issues with her smut approach.)
2. Why oh why so much focus on Molly and how she's a total bitch? I admit I'm super-critical of how female characters are treated in m/m and this rubbed me the wrong way entirely. She was JUST on the very borderline between "give her an actual storyline/personality/motivation already since she's clearly major)" and "[insert bitchy career woman trope here]" and I was not comfortable with the way it was handled.
3. WHO IS BEN AND WHY SHOULD WE CARE?? (yes, you're obviously going to use him in a future book, I can tell. Convince me why I should give a fuck in THIS BOOK!)
I love slow burns, but I hate when authors wait until almost the end of the book to let the MC's have sex. And drawout the sex scene through multiple chapters to compensate for the lack of sex throughout the book. Ugh!
