This book makes mention of the chaos of the world and, for me, that’s what this book is. Chaotic. It suffers from a lack of defined world building. And while that is, I believe, to an extent intentional, it also makes it hard to really fall into the story. Things change between pages, much is left unsaid, and it left me feeling a little unmoored. It’s not easy to navigate a story like this when even the MC’s motivation is unclear.
James is endearing to a degree, but though this story is told through his POV, there are times I was left drawing my own conclusions. His thought processes weren’t clearly described, so even though it seemed like he was against certain things, he would be doing them anyway. It took time to realize that he was doing what he felt he should, or what he felt would get him away from what he didn’t think he should have. At times, it felt like the story only went surface deep and considering what James is facing and what all is going on, that didn’t wholly work for me.
Dragons Deep is fun dragon book with so much going on that it is sometimes difficult to keep track. James has some secrets but still wants someone to love. His friend, bartender and sorcerer Arthur, gives him a love lock ring and before he knows it, he has several men attracted to him – a rich lion daddy, a sloppy bear and a knight in shining armor. But James is not sure he should share his secret. The question may come down who gets him to crack.
James was a fun hero. His room was filled with dragons and he worked at a coffee shop. He was not particularly decisive until the very end. Sir Brian, on the other hand, was unique as he did not know how to handle the modern world. One thing he did know was that he wanted James. There were other amazing characters as well. The world building needs a bit of a fine tuning but it was a delight to experience, especially the different transformations. I look forward to the next book which I hope will answer any questions I have.
I enjoyed all of the characters immensely, but I felt that this book lacked sufficient world-building. I often found myself confused at the events and trying to go back to see if I had missed something, only to find that wasn’t the case. Why was no one’s happy ending a dragon? Was it James’ true sight that caused his issues as a child, so that now that he has gone through all of this, will he still need his medications?
But, on the character side of things, I can’t think of one that I didn’t like. Arthur was interesting as a bit of a mercenary, but only for good causes. I wonder why he seems to crusade for people to find happiness… I liked that Angie learned to work through the trauma that happened to her, and yet, is still optimistic. I liked that Bradley and Manuel each found others.
This book really shines in its character development: it’s easy to like and care about the characters, even when they’re taking indecisiveness to new and sometimes frustrating extremes. (I see you, James, and I get where you’re coming from, and I like you, but dude…) The premise is creative and engrossing— I would have loved to see a bit more world building, and there are some aspects of the “how” and “why” in all of it that I still don’t quite understand but…it ended up not really affecting my enjoyment of the story, because again: really creative, and awesome character development. I’ll definitely look for more works from this author in the future.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
In a world about to crumble, James is trying to find a way to remain safe, and maybe find love at the same time This is an urban fantasy that mixes a little bit of everything... but there are so many things going on, and so few explanations, the structure is convoluted, the plot too simple, world building is relegated to some podcasts the main character listens... I was lost most of the time. There are some good moments, and some hilarious ones, a bit of action... but my impression is that it lacks structure or a clear plot line, so I lost interest and I honestly did not care much about the characters at the end. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.
Overall I enjoyed this book, I think the world it takes place in is very interesting. I do think there’s a lot going on and I sometimes had trouble keeping up, but maybe there’s other books set in this world that I should have read first?
The characters in this story were amazing, I felt like I could connect with all of them and they were all interesting on their own. I really enjoy books where you know right off the bat that you could pluck an individual character from the story out and still be entertained while they were on their own.
Dragons Deep is an alternate reality type story. The book focusses on James and is wten from his POV. The book has some funny moments and I really liked James' dragon. Th book was confusing at times and I struggled to follow the story. The book could have added some more wold-building to make it easier. The book is very creative, but does not have a lot of romance. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I am really not sure what I thought this book was about, it was enjoyable but different from the idea I had in my head after reading the blurb, I'm not saying it's bad just not expected. James has a inner monologue that waffles on and on, he meets three very different men and has trouble to decide between them. There is a good supporting cast who help James discover the path he needs to take. It's easy to read with plenty to keep you hooked.
This book is awesome it has really interesting characters and all different kinds of transformations to different kinds of creatures and worlds inside of worlds and a fun romance story where one knows they belong together and the other is indecisive and fighting against his own desires and nature there are some mysteries left in the book I wish had been elaborated on but I’m interested in reading the next book to hopefully find out what the answers are
This world is interesting. I liked the book, even if I did have some problems with the way James waffles around. But I get why he did it. It’s a good book. I am partial to dragons though. They have long been one of my favorite fantasy creatures. I did laugh in some spots and wanted to wring James’s neck in others. I think my favorite character was Arthur.
He has a secret which he keeps hidden from everyone and it is the reason why he he is all alone. He will be given a ring to help him find his mate but three appear. They are all different from the other. Which one is for him? Could it be all three are? What will happen between them all? Follow them to find out
This book took you though a venture. He just wants to meet that special someone that would always have his back and love him. But what is he to do when he has multiple suitor going for his hand. Love how keep things a little mystery and make you keep wondering. This was a wonderful read with mystic characters
I liked the premise of the book as James tries to find the "one" for him. He gets an embarrassment of riches when three possibilities show up and each of them tries to find the way to attract James and get him to reveal his secrets. There's magic and interesting world building. I hope the author delves deeper into this world for us.
This book didn't really hold my attention and I really had a hard time finishing it. I'm hoping book 2 will be better. This book focuses on James and is only written in his POV. This is probably why it didn't really do it for me, I like to have more than 1 POV when reading a book. I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.
i love dragons so this gets a 4 for that otherwise it would get a 3.. it needed more.. idk what more but more.. parts i was confused at.. parts i got lost at. but overall i enjoyed it.. it was good and action filled. i hope there will be more.
James has not had it easy and he is keeping secrets. When he receives a gift of a love lock ring, there are even more questions raised. You will enjoy the various people that are introduced along with James's journey.
This was really good! Decent world building with interesting characters. I overall really liked the story but was confused at times in the story. The premise was unique, and I loved James dragon. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.
There is a lot of interesting world building done in Dragons Deep. The book focusses on James and is written from his POV. There is quite a bit of inner dialogue going on here that at times can be confusing. While very creative I would not really call this a romance.
This book has great characters, and character development as well as a nice storyline. But it was confusing at times and I think the world building just needs a little more tweaking, but it's a good read, the series has promise.
Fun and creative. 3.5 Stars There were a few areas that could have expanded a little more. The overall plot was really good and the characters were definitely enjoyable. For me, there wasn't enough romance, but the premise of dragons kept me fully engaged.
**I received this ARC via GRR for my honest feedback.**
