This book serves many functions. It is a great introductory to astrology and a great reference for the five main personal planets. But there is a lot that is new in this book too! The author is an accomplished astrologer who has developed these themes over the course of her career and they ring very true and also very useful! It is also written in a friendly and approachable way!

I have a Kindle version but I may order a hard-copy too so that I can refer back to the reference sections as they relate to myself and my family. It is now one of my essential astrology references!

Molly McCord is one heck of an astrologer. Since I, too, am an astrologer -- and a fairly decent one :0) I might add (and that I've been told) -- I can say that with some modicum of authority. If you want to learn astrology but were afraid of the astrological jargon too many astrologers use even with clients who don't know astrology (sadly, I have been one of those), try Molly McCord. ANYTHING by Molly is not only astrologically precise and full of all kinds of wisdom, but it's easy to understand. And if you're wondering why an astrologer who already knows astrology is reading another astrologer -- it's because astrology is a HUGE field. There is so much to learn where astrology is concerned that it's difficult to know or even learn everything AND because different astrologers have different perspectives on the same old worn out astrological belief. So I like to infuse some fresh ideas into my interpretations! :-) Even astrology schools don't teach everything, except -- in many cases -- on a very basic level. So, personally, continuing astrological education is my friend. Great book and fantastic astrologer! Kudos, Molly!

I’ve been reading a lot of astrology in my path to becoming a professional astrologer. I was doubting the need to pick up another seemingly basic text, but I’m so glad I ignored that feeling and read this.

Awakening Astrology is one of the best books I’ve read for beginners to astrology, but it’s also got helpful ideas for those readers looking for a fresh approach.

The discussion about the relationship between the Sun sign, an energetic blindspot and an ongoing development sign was fascinating and helped me think about signs in a new context. I like the emphasis on soul growth and striving for balance throughout as opposed to an emphasis on challenges or negative indications. There were often practical pieces of advice in where to focus to achieve growth or balance too which made the book feel more productive.

I found the author’s interpretations of the personal planets to be sensitive and helpful.

Overall this is a book I would recommend and am sure I will treasure as a reference for chart interpretation in the future especially if I encounter any charts that feel impenetrable. The author gives so many suggestions for points of emphasis that can clear blockages and give you a new way in.
