Venora Mates #1

Ecstasy From the Deep

Rate this book
An enticing savior, an old love, and one deranged alien hell-bent on destroying it all.

The seemingly endless war with the Grutex has caused many inconveniences for Amanda, but none of those have been as bad as losing the funding for the project she is working on that is supposed to help save humanity. When she foolishly risks her life to continue her research, Amanda is thrown into the path of an alien, the likes of which she has never seen who claims she is his mate. The problem is, he isn’t the only one making that claim.

As an ambassador for his people, Oshen is used to handling delicate situations, but he has never been in one quite so delicate as this. Instead of enlightening Earth’s government about the existence of Galactic Law and their right to seek aid, he finds himself face to face with the one being he’s waited his whole life to find; his mate. But the little human is in trouble and he needs to convince her to leave Earth or he risks losing the most important thing he has ever had.

Damned. Cursed. Gulzar has been called many things over the course of his life. Many in his tribe refuse to even look at him and who could blame them? The only light in his life has been his little goddess, the only being in the entire world who looks at him without judgment. When he gets a vision of her in distress, Gulzar knows he will do anything he can for the female he loves.

This is an MMF romance that may contain any and all triggers. There are dark tones throughout the book. If you have triggers this may not be the novel for you. We understand if that is the case and hope that you find what you are looking for!

This was such a fun read with two very alien males at the centre and I enjoyed myself immensely with this.
So head’s up this is an MMF romance.
So Amanda is a marine biologist on Earth.
The planet is under siege by the Grutex and they are abducting humans all over the place.
Amanda seemed to have caught the attention of one who has fixated on her wanting to possess her at all costs and he will chase her across the galaxy to do so.
Enter Oshen from an alien race called the venium.
He’s an Aquatic species and recognises Amanda’s as his mate.
We also have a third alien Zar, a crossbreed between the two species and a third to complete this triad of three.
Amanda has been connecting to him in dreams since she was very small
Zar thinks she is a goddess and he is not worthy and she thinks him imaginary.
This was such an interesting and highly imaginative read that I enjoyed very much.
It’s not really a dark read and both males here were incredibly sweet and attentive to Amanda.
The intimate scenes were smoking and
I especially loved the connection that Oshen and Zar also managed to forge together this was the icing for me and it was so incredibly and erotically hot.
This seems to be the start of a series and I will definitely be reading further with this one.

With a cover like this, you would expect...better.

With random nonsensical words, barely coherent plot (what was the point of the prologue?), and the characteristic insta-lust translating to insta-love what was the point of having two love interest for boring as dried paint marine biologist Amanda?

What a disappointment.😴

*4.5* Surprised by how much I liked this story. I was expecting cheesy, B-rated, sci-fi romance, but instead I got a story with some actual character depth, decent world building, and a very interesting alien, alien, human interactions and eventual mating bonds. It starts off as MF and ends with MMF.

It could have been the narration, but this story just worked for me. A marine biologist, meets an aquatic alien and the story takes off from there. I have a feeling the backstory with the human/alien history will be developed more in future stories. Loved the two different aliens bonding as well, scenes of MF, MM, and MMF.

What a beautiful book cover!

I like the effort made for the backstory.

I like that this is not something just slapped together while writing. It feels like the author thought through on what the species are going to be like.

Amanda is such a badass. While she is soft and I wouldn't exactly call her a warrior, she definitely has toughness inside of her. It makes her a more interesting character than the typical damsel-in-distress type.

Good world building, but plot dragged in beginning

3.5 stars:
This book was an interesting foray into the world of fated mates with a twist of enemies to lovers built in because of species. I liked Amanda and Zar, but Oshen was a bit annoying. Ok, VERY annoying. I just wanted my baby Zar to get good things.
The beginning of this book dragged for me, which is why I finished this book on my second attempt.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: stalking, violence, community prejudice against child, torture, medical experimentation touched on

left at 29% it was just boring for me and couldn't pull me in. A lot of unnecessary info is added and it waters down the plot.

There is a lot of world building here so I was sometimes a little lost. But the characters won me over right away. Oshen feels pulled towards Earth and breaks some rules to get to his mate. Poor Gulzar, on the other hand, doesn't even know if he'll ever meet the woman he's psychically linked to.
Amanda is totally smitten, especially considering her mates are not quite humanoid. The dome city of Venium is amazing and I wanted to learn more about it.

One niggle was that I wanted more Oshen/Gulzar MM interaction (**happy sigh**).

I could not and I mean could not finish this book.

I also tried and I really tried to read this book.

The characters were hard to believe. It is the author's job to entice the reader to come into their world. I strongly feel like this did not happen. How is the male protagonist an ambassador and so impulsive to go to Earth regardless of his captaining them to stay on the ship? I don't get that. He is supposed to be able to have more control than that.

The woman protagonist is just as worse as the male protagonist. She is a marine biologist and when she meets him she ties him up but ties him up without no water. Even tho' she figures out that he is a marine species she puts him in salt water. Also, her friend comes running in with a gun in hand and act all surprised that he is an alien and his friend is in her apartment.

I just couldn't finish this book. I think that this book could have been better developed.

4.2 stars.
I enjoyed this.
But I feel like it was a bit rushed.
The second half of the book felt like there were parts cut out to make it shorter and hurry the ending along.
Especially where Zar was concerned.
Oshen and Amanda get their moment alone before they even encounter Zar in the flesh.
And Zar and Amanda supposedly have a deep connection because they’ve been mentally linked since they were both children.
But Zar doesn’t get a moment alone with Amanda, just a little prelude to both of her mates taking her together.
Then Zar and Oshen feel a bond with each other and they show a bit of affection and have the smallest of moments, but then the time when they really seem to find their passion for each other, it fades to black and jumps ahead to the end without a word.
It’s frustrating.

I liked the story. And I liked the characters and the humor and the relationships. But I feel like the pacing didn’t do them justice.

I enjoyed it, but I wish there was more of it.

I don’t want to be mean, but I was just bored. Also the plot was all over the place and the pieces just didn’t feel connected. The MC Amanda was kind of just not memorable. Lacking in personality. Her pontifications on alien biology felt more like copy/paste science factoids.

Ecstasy from the Deep

2.5 stars. Could have been better. There were moments that were weirdly placed, like when she was taken and her two males take their sweet-a** time to go after them or even start planning to! Then he's having a stupid childish argument with his sister in the middle of their search!!! It's a miracle they even managed to locate her before something horrible happened to her!

Received Book as a Beta Read, I will be purchasing this book the moment it comes out.
Cover: 5/5, Love It!!!

I Give this Book a 4/5 Star Rating, very enjoyable.

HEA(?): Yes.
Romance: 4/5
Heat: 3.5-4ish/5, shorter and few scenes but still enjoyable.
Drama: 3.5-4/5
Suspense: 3/5
Dark(?): This is My Rating-(To Me)
I will give this a 2-2.5/5, but it others readers may differ. I Do Love Dark Reads and this Doesn’t even rate in my scale of Dark. But will list as Dark Lite.
Relationship Type: MFM, Slight M/M moments.
Pacing: This is a Mid to Fast Paced Read.
This is a Shorter Story (for me, as in the sense that it has a more compacted feel)
No Spoilers in this Review.

I didn’t put this book down the moment I started, it’s a very interesting world and of course the first books have to break you into the universe and once you get the hang of it and the flow of the story, really it draws you in.
I’m really looking forward to reading any and all future books from this Series and from this Author.

Waves upon waves

Amanda and Jun have seen the social media reports but hadn't thought they were real. How could it be? Aliens? Snatching humans in broad daylight? That's the stuff of b movies and internet hoaxes. And then they saw it happen right in front of them. Some poor woman was snatched and there was nothing they could do. Six years humans have stayed in groups, learning never to be alone and to avoid being taken away as best they can. And then another species is seen. He rescued Amanda from one of the Grutex but that doesn't mean he's good. They know about the Grutex and have an alliance. And they aren't helping the humans. But when a particular Grutex keeps stalking Amanda she agrees to be relocated to the Venium home world for her safety. Waking up on a beach under green skies was her first clue something was wrong. She was promised underwater domes. Her second clue is a, well, he looks like a Grutex, but not exactly the same. He's making happy noises and rubbing her belly. And he looks an awful lot like her imaginary friend from childhood. Maybe she bumped her head too hard?

Spoilers ahead.
I have so many questions. So many.
*The Venium and Gurtex know about each other. Not going to say how because it's a major plot point. But, the way they know about each other makes what's going on with the humans a lot crazy. Not a little, a lot.
*Underwater domes, space travel, but they know so little about their home world that they still can't defend themselves from predators?
*The Allasso seems an odd form to come from an aquatic species. Amanda described it as a hellhound like beast. I'm curious as to why that form?
*The differences in the Gurtex, some 6 eyed, some 4, is that because of what goes on in the colony? Never really says.
*No reason is ever given for the declining births. And it doesn't seem to affect all of them, Oshen's mom has 14 kids.
*There is a species mentioned in the beginning, a group of females that apparently serves the males on board Oshen's ship. They seem very like a goddess mentioned later, and humans, just in Technicolor. But other than the very brief mention they're left out of the story.
*The law stating the Venium can't interfere until asked by humans, but knowing that humans are being kidnapped and unable to ask for help because they don't know about aliens, doesn't make sense.
*This is a mmf romance. Each expected to pair with a female in independent pairbonds, although legends mention triads. Both males accepted their attraction without so much as a blink of hesitation. Which is great, but from what little we're told about their society homosexual/bisexual relationships don't seem to be the norm.
*Humans evolved from primates. Venium evolved from something aquatic. What did Gurtex evolve from? Chiton is mentioned, as well as xines which seem like vines or spines that move, plus a tail, and an appendage that is similar to bees on Earth. Like apes on Earth, do their cousins still exist?
*Amanda seems to know more about the biology of the species on the Venium home world than the inhabitants.
*Gestation is short for Venium, half the length of human pregnancy. As they don't breed outside their own species, and didn't bring any human doctors along, how is this going to play out? They have no clue what sort of reactions she'll have to medications.
*Amanda leaves Earth without asking if the Venium are going to try to help her people. Kidnappings are still happening.
*There's a language barrier that doesn't make sense in some regards. The twist doesn't explain it. It really shouldn't exist, because of, well, everything that is revealed about the many species. Ack. Unable to say why because it would be a huge plot spoiler, but another question that is left unanswered.

This was an interesting book, aside from all the questions I still have. I'll probably grab 2, because there are still a lot of ends left dangling. And I'm curious to see if they're answered, if there is some more world building done. Because what there is is intriguing.

Well, guess I have to read all the other books in this series because this world is just fascinating. Multiple types of alien fish people, Atlantis-inspired lore, and very fluffy and warm ot3's? I don't know what I expected when I started this but I was very pleasantly surprised.

This book used a lot of time skips and short cuts to get relationship developments handled more quickly, so I was left a little flabbergasted about just why everyone was so in love. Amanda and Oshen start making babies at the 37% mark. Gulzar and Amanda have the excuse of having a force-bond I guess. The whole "turning into a beast" thing for Oshen wasn't explained very well and I couldn't visualize exactly what he was supposed to look like. And the Xuvri plotline was handled a little too quickly because I guess we had to get to the threesome sex, which was much more important.

That being said, the OT3 had a very soft and tender rapport, which I definitely appreciated. Gulzar especially just needs a hug, and all the love and validation he receives from Amanda and Oshen is very welcome. Oshen and Amanda are cute, Amanda and Gulzar are cute, Oshen and Gulzar are cute. It's just all-around cute and I'm here for it.

I also just really enjoy the lore? Figuring out how the Venium, the Grutek, the humans, and Gulzar's village were all connected was really interesting, and it's something I hope gets elaborated on in the rest of the series.

On a final note, the running gag with the cat, Hades, absolutely freaking every alien out because cats are apex predators on their homeworld is great.

Well this book I was like ...guarding him , why ? Well idk hahaha , but look like one of these book that I’ll f*cking love , so I was guarding him for me to read after I finished a series I really loved hahaha you know how to cure a book hangover? Well it’s like with alcohol you just has to take another amazing book and that’s it hahaha and guys ...look at this cover !!! Damn I got first really intrigued (every time I use this word I remember Casteel ...damn it ) with this book because is like a RH right ? With two different species of aliens so looks really interesting, because ... because I think so hahaha .

Damn just in the beginning of the book we have a big dictionary of term , a lot of term hahaha looks good , ok I’m confused...which of the males are Oshen ? He is the red one or the gray one ? I know he is the Venium one but ...what is a Venium ? Give me characteristics please !! But I think he is the Gray one because in the prologue...the alien Amanda saw had three pars of eyes ...and looks like earth is in war with another species of aliens that apparently was there before the Venium and the red one has of the cover has two pars of eyes so ...damn it hahaha idk . Yeah I found it , gleaming golden eye , Oshen is definitely the Gray one hahahaha.

Hahahaha Oshen’s AI is the best . So what is the more weird thing you searched in google ? Damn it hahaha because this book made me search how a bee penis is ...super normal uh ? So... I’m really grateful that the red alien in the cover , the Grutex isn’t the asshole that tried to rape her , I’m thinking when will they meet? I’m feeling I’ll really like Gulzar hahaha. Looks like they already meet , he saw Amanda since young ? Interesting. And ok I’m getting frustrated... I want Gulzar meeting Amanda NOW!!!

Ok I’m not just frustrated anymore ...I’m pissed , WHY GULZAR DIDN’T APEAR YET ???? This is getting in my nerves , this is a f*cking RH so why just Oshen is present ? Uh? Yeah I think it’s happening a injustice with Gulzar and my second male lead syndrome is in full force now , even I knowing he isn’t a second male . So...Amanda and Oshen are running away from the other Grutax ....uh I don’t think I’m really enjoying the things that are happening...but at least she could take Hades with her . So Xuvri is the Grutax that hunts Amanda ? Interesting...and for gods sake don’t give me more chapters with his view because I have a strong inclination to like villains and the seconds leads ...yeah I know so wrong but what can I do ? The heroes are so boring , look at Oshen ...yeah yeah he is fun and all but misses ...something, maybe I should speak about it with my therapist.

The only thing that still amuses me in this book is Hades hahaha seriously? This cat is so cool . Maybe now that they’ll go away from earth she will finally meet Gulzar ... hahah poor commander Vog , Hades almost made him go crazy in the travel hahaha . Sometimes I think Amanda is dumb ...seriously girl ? You are in a alien planet and see a cute animal and you go near it ? Do you have a death wish ? Aaaaah FINALLY!!! She meet Gulzar now the things are going to be interesting .

Hahaha like I said now the things are getting good hahaha she and Gulzar doesn’t understand each other hahaha damn , and Oshen is still looking for her since the shuttle fell from the skie , but I’m more worried about Hades , what can I do ? Im a cat person .

“There was a softness in his eyes when he looked at her and he let loose one of those magical purrs that never failed to calm her racing heart. She had found it made her uneasy at first, but what could one expect from a noise that was half-alligator mating call, half-tyrannosaurus rex growl?”

See ? Gulzar or better Zar is a sweetheart... so cute hahaha . So the things are really interesting hahaha looks like the book really started now . Whoa ...so Zar people are like a tribe ? They look advanced and primitive in the same time , poor Zar that has to pass for what they do to him , but my big question is ...why they think he is dammed? Woah I’m loving the explication, why they think she is a goddess...damn this is really good and makes sense .

Uh-oh so interesting, the mate bond apparently go all ways like Oshen/ Amanda , Amanda/Zar and Zar/Oshen . I’m liking Oshen more now that he is obviously struggling with the beast inside hahahaha he is funny. Oshen has gay panic ...damn hahahaha .

“We cannot gift our mate a braxing tigeara.”
Zar frowned, cuddling the hissing beast to his chest. “I found him all on his own. A female will never abandon her cub, which most likely means he is orphaned.” When Oshen merely blinked at him, Zar sighed. “You are right. I will simply leave him here to die. Alone.”
For the love of the goddess….
“It’s not going to stay small forever.”
“I am aware of this. I have hunted these woods since I was a youngling.”
Oshen sighed in frustration. “Do you want to die? If you bring that home, it will grow up and eat you.”
“It loves me.” The cub swatted at Zar’s face as he leaned in to kiss its head. “With time, it will love me”.

Hahahah Zar is like a big baby and I loooove Zar and Oshen interactions, poor Oshen , OMG Zar will call it Mister Fluffy Paws ? Hahahahaha . Well I just finished and this was a good book , with good moments and a healthy dose of action , I wanted some things was different and all , but this was good so that’s it hahaha .

I really wanted to like this book, it had a few interesting aspects.

But unfortunately it was so over the place and characters behaved so random and unrealistic it just did not work. The very, very „too stupid to live“ actions from ALL the characters, combined with my absolute no-go: unprotected sex with an unknown species resulting in a potentially dangerous pregnancy, without having ever talked about ANYTHING at all. I was was amazed they knew each other’s names by the 50 % mark.

It also started with a rather unnecessary almost rape scene, that did not fit in with the rest of the book and villain character at all.

I received a copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

I read the shorter version of this in the anthology book, From the Depths, so I was interested to see what the authors have done to change that complete short into a longer work of fiction. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw they turned it into a ménage book as I'm always a big fan of them, but it seemed like an addition to add more story. Well I was wrong. I remember reading a nightmare scene in the original short, that has since turned out to be seeding the full-length novel. What I really like about this is that the two authors have managed to turn a satisfying short story into an even more satisfying novel.

The writing has improved since the short. There was good prose, but there were some rough edges which have been smoothed out and even stepped up a notch. There was some really good imagery and the final ménage scene was HOT! The characters were sympathetic and I even felt really bad for the antagonist, which is a tough trick considering what we learn about him.

In my original review I said that I was looking forward to seeing more from Octavia Kore and two authors behind the name have not let me down. I have Queen of Twilight in my TBR and am bumping it to next after reading this book.

This book is MMF which personally I love

I really liked this one. Had to make an account just to review it. I normally don't leave reviews. All my questions were answered, the story kept me engaged, and I found myself laughing out loud at points.. that doesnt happen often. It isnt very often when I find a romance I like because most of them read like p*rn but this one had more story than anything else.

not quite 2 & 1/2 stars.
I don't know, this felt like I was rubber-necking at an accident, I just couldn't look away. Unfortunately, this left me feeling disappointed with myself for not quitting, and disgusted that I wasted my time. I think the story as a whole was not finished, feeling like it was still in draft form. There were a ton of hiccups in the plot, things out of place, out of character, with random things stuck in places that shouldn't have been. So many inconsistencies in behavior among the 3 main characters, that it took away from the story in general, pulling me out of the book. My biggest gripe, Zar was way too alien, he was a turn off as a "mate" for Amanda. For the life of me, I couldn't get past that- to see it as a viable relationship. His description & image on the book cover sort of reminded me of the movie "Alien" with Sigourney Weaver, which alone was creepy to think of as a mate. Oshen was more believable, he wasn't quite so extreme in description- as far an alien goes. So the shock value is a definite turn off for me in books. I've quit other alien books over the shock value as it makes the story unbelievable/un-relatable. The relationship in the triad just wasn't believable as a whole, either. I did not feel any lust, love, or even anything beyond a friendship between the 3. So the sex scenes between them also didn't feel organic, but as another shock value. I definitely won't be continuing on with this series.

Love it! This is a great book. Gulzar, Amanda and Oshen are awesome. My heart aches for what Zar went through. 1st time I felt bad for 1 of the enemies but in Xuvri case I do but I am glad he tried to release Amanda in the end. The heroine's best friend Jun is just great can't wait for her story.

Not a typical invasion story

I enjoyed the story. Especially that it wasn't an invader kidnaps heroine who gets Stockholm syndrome for him. Amber had a lot more agency. She didn't have to be in a relationship with Oshen even though he was bonded to her, he let her take her time. It didn't take long though. She also didn't get weirded out by the rather sudden same sex relationship her lovers have.
I had a lot of sympathy for Zar, he went through a lot for no good reason. He never gave up on Amanda even after thier connection was lost. The 3 make a good triad.
