Authority Rule #1: Never Cross A Kitari Warrior

“Ensign Tessil!”

Jerri turned around at the sound of her name boomed in rasping, rough tones. That was not a voice that had ever used her name before. She liked the way it sounded.

It was an alien.

The alien.

Commander Atlas had set all the tongues wagging, a Kitari officer serving on a largely human vessel. The fact that the HMS Audacity was still over eighty percent human was a source of shame for the fleet. Technically they were in breach of several intergalactic defense treaties, which required all species of the alliance to be represented on any ship with more than a gigaton of firepower. The Audacity was well above that threshold, but they had difficulty attracting and retaining quality crew.

She’d given Atlas about three months when he first came aboard. He was nearing the end of his second month and still going strong, but you never knew when these aliens would crack. Sometimes they seemed fine right up until they stripped down in the mess hall and started hurling pudding at anybody in range.

This was her first time seeing him up close. He was tall. Nine feet. About average height for a Kitari, but pretty stunning for a human. He must have a heck of a time bending under all the doors, which she knew for a matter of fact were set at a max of eight feet, five inches. The Audacity had been constructed before the Authority decided that vessels had to be fully accessible for all alliance species.

He had a thick mane of dark hair that was tied back behind his head. Technically, regulations stated men’s hair should not be any longer than the nape of the neck, but Kitari customs insisted that warriors never cut their hair, and the Authority respected that. His eyes were perpetually narrowed in a way that made him look suspicious and annoyed most of the time. They were pitch black with deep red pupils. His skin was a copper hue that occasionally flashed gold under certain lights, and had a thickened, roughened texture across the bridge of his nose and his forehead, the backs of his hands. Imagination could only tell her where else.

The Kitari world was a hot and dangerous place from all accounts. So was Atlas. A smile established itself on her face.

“Hi,” she said brightly.

“Ensign Tessil,” he said. “I believe it is still customary to salute a commanding officer.”

“Oh. Right. Sorry. Of course!” She shifted her helmet to her other arm and gave him the best salute she could muster, one that started at her toes and ricocheted off her forehead into her hand.

“As you were,” he said.

She dropped her hand. “You’re tall,” she observed.

“You’re insubordinate,” he replied.

***

Jerri’s life would be a lot easier if she could learn to follow the rules.

It's not just that Kitari are the most brutal, warlike, terrifying species in the Authority Alliance, it's that the one she just sassed is her immediate superior.

Commander Atlas thinks Ensign Jerri Tessil is unruly, unprofessional and rebellious.

He's right.

And he's the first officer aboard the Audacity to discipline her.

She wants to hate him.

But there's something about a big, grumpy, growly, mean alien boss that makes her melt.

The Alliance specifically forbids relationships between superiors and subordinates.

But she can't stay away.

And he can't resist her.

When the Authority discovers their relationship and tries to force them apart, Jerri shows them the true meaning of rebellion.

Wow - Loki Renard really knows how to write a sensual and sultry love scene! I felt the chemistry and desire pouring off the pages. This story is titillating with multiple scenes of pure smut and it's freakin' fantastic!!

It took me a few chapters to get to know the heroine and really understand her. Jerri isn't one of my favorite heroine's but she did grow on me as her background story unfolded. Atlas saw through her hard exterior and realized how lonely and in need of guidance she was. Atlas is honorable and exactly the kind of hero Jerri needed. This story has a touch of the forbidden since Atlas is Jerri's superior. Slight OM drama; a previous one-night-stand attempts to interfere and makes things difficult for the h/H to be together.

Overall this is an entertaining read with the perfect amount of sweet and a whole lotta delicious taboo spice!

6/10: Good light-weight read, well done.

This was a loss for me because I 100% absolutely hate characters like the FMC here. Jerri was one of those characters that did whatever they wanted and said whatever they wanted with complete disregard for rules and protocols because they NEVER get in trouble for it. So like Atlas was constantly saying, she was a goddamn BRAT. I probably would have enjoyed this one quite a bit if Jerri wasn't the way she was. But yeah, I hated Jerri.

Both Atlas and Jerri are part of the military for the Authority. Atlas has been sent to the ship that Jerri serves on to get things in better order and to enforce discipline among the crew. Because it is woefully lacking. Especially with Jerri he quickly finds out. Jerri is not used to being punished in any way so she fights harder against Atlas, earning her more pain. But she discovers that she delights in how his actions make her feel, so she starts seeking him out for more. Atlas is a very by the book and by the rules officer, but he's finding it harder and harder to control himself where Jerri is concerned. And when these two are thrown together for a prisoner swap meeting on an enemy planet, things go completely out of his control when Jerri does something that he has to publicly punish her for and his instincts take over.

These two have obviously formed a connection, but it is not allowed for them to be together because of the difference in their ranks. Too bad Jerri won't stop pursuing Atlas, and he no longer has the will power to push her away. That is until Jerri's past comes back to bite them both in the ass and both of their futures get destroyed. Atlas is forced to do something that he never wanted to do, which in turn causes Jerri to enact her biggest act of insane defiance yet. Though she has no idea what to do after she does this, it does lead to a happy ending for the two of them in a most unexpected place.

Ensign Jerri Tessil was not going to fare well with Commander Atlas. She did nothing but disobey orders. They couldn’t allow this to go on. Ensign Tessil is a brat. That is what CDR Atlas can see. She never follows orders. She needs to be disciplined to make her understand her actions. Things didn’t turn out exactly as it should. Atlas is an alien, Kitari that has worked hard for his rank. We learn a great deal about this morals and his upbringing. Jerri is an orphan that had only two choices, the streets or academy. She is intelligent but does things her own way. I love that they are different, species wise. But they are the same. Yes, Atlas is by the book and not a goof as Jerri but when he learns and understands Jerri, you can see why she is the way she is. She is sweet but a fighter. She is intelligent and even though she is an Ensign, she still gets the job done. I can understand why the Authority sucks. They do. You will too. Life always finds a way. I am looking forward the the next book, Harem.

I'm not much of a brat myself, but I sure do love reading about them. Ensign Jerri Tessil is a Brat with a capital B. She's snarky, pushes boundaries at every turn, and filled my heart with glee. There was so much evil giggling going on while I read this. Her exact opposite, at least for all outward appearances, is Commander Atlas. He follows all the rules and he's going to make sure that Tessil follows them too. And that's where the fun begins.

I love this story so much. I love that it's not the typical girl stolen or sold to an alien. I love that Tessil and Atlas are so connected. I love the heat and sexy scenes, and all the domination and submission. I love the fast pace and the moments of snark and sweetness. It had touching moments mixed in with scenes of suspense and danger, and a love story that captivated me. And heat. So much heat. It was fabulous and I can't wait for the next one.

Entertaining and plenty of steamy scenes…

So I did enjoy this read and definitely scenes between Jerri and Atlas; however, I did think there was maybe a bit too much spanking for my taste but if that’s something you really like then this will be perfect for you! I believe the author does prepare the reader for this as well at the very beginning of the book.

I also thought Atlas’s hot-and-cold behavior with Jerri was a little frustrating which led me to wanting to rate this a 4 out of 5 ultimately, but their HEA was perfect! Loved the epilogue! That’s the one thing a lot of authors forget to do is actually wrap up the story and Loki totally nailed it with her ending. I like to find out what happens “after” characters’ initial HEA and so many authors miss the mark on that. Looking forward to reading the next book in this Alien Authority world.

a most unexpected love story

I’m thrilled about having entered this new universe created by the brilliant Loki Renard. In a futuristic society where you live or die based on the will of the Authority, freedom is an illusion and being alive is far from living. There’s no room for love, and the only loyalty considered acceptable is loyalty to the Authority. So what happens when an impulsive, cunning but immensely talented ensign meets a rigid, domineering commander? Chaos ensues, pain is dispatched, and things take an interesting turn. It’s refreshing to love the hero and the heroine in equal measure. Phenomenal writing, incredible world building (what a universe! Can’t wait to see more of it!), and a glimmer of hope in the darkness and monotony. Wonderfully done and I highly recommend it!

It began with misogynistic discipline of the spanking of a female insubordinate but I kept reading to see where it was going to go -> right into punishment and humiliation kink. Should have seen that coming. Not my thing but might be yours, hence my mentioning it. I like erotic romance but I need a little story to go with. Ultimately I did not care for this story as aspects of it read like a low budget porn skit from the 90s. Some of the scenes were right on the edge of silliness while still being well written. It felt like the author was looking for story to string the smut scenes together and I prefer the smut to unfold as an element of the plot. It frustrated the heck out of me because I wanted to like the story more since the writing style held appeal. I will check out other works by her tho for that reason.

Rebellion (Possessive Protective Aci-Fi Alien Romance Series) by Loki Renard.
I love a good sci-fi romance and this series has been waiting on my TBR for quite some time now, and as part of my reading challenge this year is to try to get through as many of my TBR as possible, coupled with the fact the fact that I had the entire series sitting, waiting- well it was a no brainer. #whodoesntloveagoodbingeread
This is Commander Atlas and Jerri’s story. He's the nine-foot-tall alien commander onboard a largely human-manned vessel. She's his subordinate. Thier's is a forbidden relationship. What happens when their secret comes to light?
Sci-fi romance with drama, angst, darker elements, possessive alpha male, challenges, twists, chemistry, steam, BDSM, forbidden relationship element, workplace romance, and more.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Loki Renard!

DARK, ROMANCE with a HEA

This book is a dominant/ submissive type book, that contains spanking, a brat, and a stickler for rules,

This book is not something someone who does not like spankings would like,
In this book, it is beneficial to both people that spanking is involved in the sex, so it happens a lot (not at all complaining)
It was a exciting read, with suspense. Romance. Alien drama, and a lot of sex,
Great book, with a great ending, and I can't wait to read more in this series

Good read

I struggled with this book in the beginning because the main character Jerri started off talking about how authority didn't apply to her or thinking how she could use a personal incident and exploit it to something she can take advantage of. I didn't like that but when Atlas took charge he put her in place... For a while lol it got better after that but would come and go. Jerri was a struggle for me but overall good read.

when opposites meet

Interesting read . Something was missing. I feel like there was so much more to know about the characters yet they were not developed. I am also not sure what Atlas looks like. There was a staccato to the story that left the reader filling in the blanks. There was a great underlying story about opposites that I wish I got to read more. This is the kind of book that could be developed to an after HEA sequel.

Ensign Jerri is a breath of fresh air and such a brat that she catches the eye of a very sexy huge Alien Commander Atlas who goes by the book and loves to punish.

They couldn't be any more different but so right at the same time and my heart was in my throat not knowing what Jerri was going to do next.

There was so many intense crazy moments that had me laughing at their antics, I loved them this world was so good and very interesting with fantastic characters and plot. And toward that ending LOL so so good.

Fantastic book!

What a story! An alien and a human bond in a way they are not supposed to and all heck breaks loose. He's her superior officer and they're not supposed to mix. Between the two of them, they manage to upset a lot of people. This is funny and snarky and a wonderful story of real love.

Absolutely addictive!

Jerri is my new favorite human, lol. The way she goes up against her alien is fresh and spectacular. I loved the way the story built, how the more they aggravated each other, the more they seemed to be pulled together. It was definitely a fun read with lots of action and a good story to follow.

The Commanders Brat…

This story was a cracking good read as we follow Ensign Jerri Tessil, a kind of forgotten member on the ship Audacity, where she only seems to be needed when the fan is an icky brown colour to help save the day but when she’s not needed she does her best to push the boundaries of trouble until she comes under Commander Atlas’s rule and has to face his disciplinary actions…
I enjoyed the humour, twists and a surprising special mission interlaced with some super nova hot scenes as well a hint into the next book, this was for me a great read…

Definitely more than I expected

I have to admit the first couple of chapters were difficult for me to read...it seemed like the whole story was going to be about the ML disciplining and spanking the LL...
But it got better as I read and the characters were fleshed out...
I am looking forward to reading the next book

No one likes Authority

No one likes Authority, Jerri most of all. She does what she wants until Commander Atlas takes notice of her. These two have so much tension and the sparks fly. It was hot and so can't good.

Brat till the end

An awesome storyline and character development. The two pair well and the adventure is in the relationship. The female is a loose cannon and the male is total discipline.

Very nice story about dominance & how it should be.

The male is very dominant & brutal, but he loves the terrible brat. He does everything for her benefit & growth. She needs to be dominated more than he needs to dominate. All in all a great love story.
