With nearly a million book sales, USA Today bestselling author Hallee Bridgeman writes action-packed romantic suspense focusing on realistic characters who face real-world problems. Her work has been described as everything from refreshing to heart-stopping exciting and edgy.

An Army brat turned Floridian, Hallee and her husband finally settled in central Kentucky so they could enjoy the beautiful changing of the seasons. Hallee’s oldest daughter is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, her middle son struggles as a hexagonal “autism spectrum” peg in this round world, and her youngest son fills the house with wooshes and bangs as he fights imaginary bad guys while wearing a Spiderman costume and wielding a Ninja sword.

When she’s not penning novels, you will find her in the kitchen, which she considers the ‘heart of the home’. Her passion for cooking spurred her to launch a whole food, real food “Parody” cookbook series. In addition to nutritious, Biblically grounded recipes, readers will find that each cookbook also confronts some controversial aspect of secular pop culture.

Hallee has served as the Director of the Kentucky Christian Writers Conference, President of the Faith-Hope-Love chapter of the Romance Writers of America, is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW), and the American Christian Writers (ACW), and Novelists, Inc. (NINC). An accomplished speaker, Hallee has taught and inspired writers around the globe, from Sydney, Australia, to Dallas, Texas, to Portland, Oregon, to Washington, D.C., and all places in between.

Hallee loves coffee, campy action movies, and regular date nights with her husband. Above all else, she loves God with all of her heart, soul, mind, and strength; has been redeemed by the blood of Christ; and relies on the presence of the Holy Spirit to guide her. She prays her work here on earth is a blessing to you and would love to hear from you. You can reach Hallee at hallee@halleebridgeman.com

This was certainly an action-packed novella that really almost read like a novel but without about a hundred more pages, but I did not in any way feel cheated out of Love in Any Language. Emma Selah and Jorge Pena were both well-developed characters and I think that's why I didn't feel that there was still more to this story. There is an adequate backstory sprinkled in among the action that's able to make this a solid beginning and novella. I will admit I did not understand all the technical (military) lingo but I was still able to follow it. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Love In Any Language may be a small book but it is big in military action, suspense, and romance. A very satisfying read. I read it in one sitting. I am looking forward to reading the whole series.

With riveting action and intense emotion, this is the perfect novella to begin the series by Hallee Bridgeman. The details that she provides about the setting and the military operations are credible and seem totally authentic. I enjoyed the love story of Selah and Jorge, complete with a little bump in the road that almost destroyed it all. Meeting the team was a pleasure, especially Captain Norton who cares deeply for his team members and takes the responsibility of their safety seriously. All of the characters were credible and fit their roles in the story well. I look forward to more books in this fast-paced series that is entertaining and sparkles with romance.

Full disclosure. I got this novella as an ebook for free when I subscribed to the author's newsletter. I have since ordered the paperback and it is next to the paperback copies of Honor Bound and Word of Honor on my bookshelf because I will read them again, and I will also probably lend them to friends to enjoy.
***
First of all, when I finish this series I am going to read all of Mrs. Bridgeman's backlist of books and I may even buy her cookbooks! Her ability to create characters who strike you as completely real people is rare in any book, and diminishingly rare in contemporary novels. I especially appreciate that she depicts realistic male characters who are genuinely three dimensional and act as good men would act in extreme situations and not as the "plot" dictates they "should" behave, per se.
Secondly, it is so refreshing to read a book with no fear of profanity or sexual immorality on the next page. I can just relax and read for pleasure without the threat of offense which is such a relief as a reader.
Finally, Love in Any Language is a fantastic if short read. It is the prequel novella to the Love and Honor series and, even though I don't feel cheated by the lack of a few more chapters, I wish it were full on novel length just so I could spend more time with these characters.
Right on page one Bridgeman thrusts you into superlatively described combat action in the Gulf of Aden. The cast of secondary characters is introduced amid the action of retaking a pirated Suezmax cargo ship. The central character in this story is Jorge "Pina Colada" Pena who is a recently commissioned green beret officer who takes the responsibilities of leadership seriously. Once the bullets stop flying we meet Emma Selah aka "Twenty-Four-Ten" who is a petite and brilliant linguist and interrogator.
Later in the story, we learn that Emma's last name means righteous and Jorge's last name means grief. The implications of these meanings ripple throughout this story.
The story is a novella so it jumps forward in time a few times and describes "chance" meetings between Jorge and Emma and the events that take place at those times as they begin to realize they are attracted to each other. Readers visit places like San Antonio and an Airbase in Kuwait. Each time, something holds Jorge back which frustrates Emma. At one point Emma even confronts Jorge and asks if he won't move forward with the relationship because of her Afghani heritage.
In a climactic scene Jorge is finally cornered into confessing a huge secret and the growing trust between the two is utterly shattered. I admit, I did not see that twist coming and could not see a path that landed these two together in a HEA. It's bad. So bad, Jorge has to return to America and when he comes back Emma is understandably distant and stone cold.
Then they go on yet another mission. The mojo they once had and the syncronicty they shared is absent along with the trust. Suddenly, things go very, very wrong. Bridgeman's ability to write military action sequences is something you have to read to understand. I won't try to explain it. You feel the gritty sand in your eyes. You hear the overhead helicopter blades. You smell the gunpowder. You are RIGHT THERE in the middle of the action ducking bullets and calling for support.

Conclusion: Solid five stars. Perfect kickoff to the series. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone as well as the next books Honor Bound and Word of Honor. I am really looking forward to Honor's Refuge next month.

[Possible spoilers]
CONS: There is combat violence. People are wounded and killed in gunfights. An unarmed and restrained man is threatened with execution in the first chapter. Pirates have murdered a boat captain and abused the rest of the crew. A threat of using a nuclear weapon on the mosque in Mecca is communicated to a prisoner as an interrogation technique by Emma. As a prisoner herself, captors threaten to "sell" her to a man who "prefers Turkish women" with all that that implies. Jorge's secret is detestable and bound to anger some readers. Back in America, as an act of self-defense when confronted with a pistol in his face, Jorge breaks a man's arm--but there are no further consequences to either of them.

PROS: These cons are offset by courage, heroism, honor, respect, grace, mercy, forgiveness, and redemption. The romance is believable and appropriately paced. There is no alcohol or illegal drug use and there is no open door sexual immorality. Just kissing.

Post script: The men in this book, from their point of view, are just "doing their jobs" and Bridgeman has first-hand accounts of what those jobs are like. But the fictional men depicted here and the real men this series is intended to honor, are HEROES and role models in my opinion. More men like this are needed in literature.

Love in Any Language: a prequel to the Love and Honor series by Hallee Bridgeman
Book starts out with praise for the series, dedication page and glossary of Military terms and acronyms.
and a quote that starts off the first chapter.
Story is about Emma and she's a trained translator that knows a lot of languages and always learning new ones. Story goes back to how the whole family arrived in the US and they worked hard to better themselves over the years and love their new country.
She has many mission and meets some of the same people as time goes on. One mission she is with Jorge who they have worked together and actually have a strong liking to one another. There is a major misunderstanding and she can't wrap her head around it, he's married....
He heads stateside to bury his wife and he attempts to explain to Emma what's going on. He arrives back on the mission and her head just isn’t into the interrogation and she had left her ankle knife in place. Problem is the one being questioned gets it away from her and he's about to stab Jorge.
He never should've been put in that position but she' really was not there in mind. You wonder if they will ever have the time to talk amongst themselves so you can really learn what's going on in his life.
Like all the tactical maneuvers during the mission, interrogations and strategy. Story ends with discussion questions, about the author, recipes for a tea for group discussion, excerpt of next story in the series and
author's other works. Good read for everyone.
Really fast paced war time atmosphere but romantic also at times Love hearing how they got to the US and how they overcame their fears and trudged forward to make something of themselves.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

This novella flowed well and at the end it felt like I have read a complete story. I think the fact that the story played out over 2 years added to that full bodied feeling.

The author well described the military action and danger. For me sometimes a bit too well because most of the terms went over my head. But it could also be that my brain could was not alert enough to take in all the data.

There was one twist which was unexpected, so I am looking forward to what other twist the author will bring in the series.

A great introduction to the characters who we will get to know in this series.

I always enjoy Hallee's books... especially so when military are included. Also a military wife, I love reading any book that honors them. This story is fast paced. Jorge and Emma are sweet together. Not wanting to give anything away, but, unfortunately Jorge's situation is far too common in military life. I feel Emma was right to be upset, however, hearing Jorge out would have been a good idea. Definitely a good read that most certainly left me hungry for more! Ready to read "Daddy's" story. (I love all of the nicknames! What a fun chuckle!)

What a fun intro into Jorge and Emma’s relationship! It’s free with sign up for author’s newsletter. Filled with action, faith, and romance, it’s a good and fast read for those who enjoy military-based romantic suspense/action. It’s a prequel novella in Love and Honor series so make sure to read the other books to continue on the journey with the rest of the team.

I received the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

What a great action packed novella. Love this story of Jorge Pena and Emma Selah. I got the novella after I binge read the entire series, but still thoroughly enjoyed their story and how they met. What a fantastic series. I wish there was another story in this series, I am so not ready to be done.

I highly recommend Love in Any Language and the rest of the Love and Honor series for lovers of romantic suspense, and military suspense. I could not put any of them down. I wish there was more!

Love in Any Language is the prequel to the Love and Honor series by Hallee Bridgeman. This story introduces the wonderful characters in the series. It is a well written, attention grabbing, fast moving and action packed story. This story show the closeness the military unit has and how well they work together. I like how this story shows a different side of what happened after 9-11 and how strongly it affected some who were not involved in the attacks. It shows the intense devotion Emma’s family had at that time and how it affected her life as she grew up. I especially enjoyed the deep friendship Pena had with a childhood friend and length he went to for her to feel secure about specific situations. This story also has some humor, especially with the nicknames the military unit members have.

This is a must read for anyone who enjoys military action stories.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy for this story from the author, this is my honest review.

Though I didn’t realize this novella was available to Halle’s readers until after I’d read the first two books in this series, it didn’t matter. What a great beginning to show how Jorge and Emma come to be. Can’t wait for the third book in this series!

This is the prequel to The Love and Honor Series....and unfortunately, I did not discover it until I had read the first book. It doesn't matter a lot, except this book sets up the main characters more. It was a quicker read than the longer books that the series is going to be, but was really good and gave the story of Emma and Jorge

2 Stars (2 1/2)

I liked most of the things in this book, but unfortunately, this book had some things in it that caused the rating to have to go down.

Negative Content.

A mention of someone considering Fort Bragg to be a cuss word.

A mention of a eight year old having had screamed profanities at his grandmothor because he and his brother was being dragged away from her home by social works because she could not afford to take care of them.

The main male character dates the main female character while he was still married, and when she finds out after his wife died, she wonders if their team mates had been laughing behind their hands at her while she let a married man have a deployment fling with her.

The man remembers how he had married his late wife, how it had been a marriage of convenience, that they had gone home to their own homes, and that they didn't even wear rings. That he didn't feel married, nor did he think of himself as a married man, except on paper.
In fact, he'd never thought of being married again. Not until the main female character had suggested they should start seeing each other romantically. Suddenly, his situation with his wife loomed in the forefront of his mind. He should have told her (FMC) at that exact moment, then explained who his wife was and what being married to her meant. It was too late now.

He thinks that his late wife's body had arrived that morning and would have been cremated by now, and that she wanted her ashes buried between her parents.(the Bible does not agree with burning the dead instead of burying them).

A mention of a woman feeling embarrassment fill her heart as she thought about the many women she had watched fall into deployment affairs with married men over the years. She'd never understood why someone would do something like that. And here she was, a veteran of one of the things she abhorred most of all.
Did she own any accountability for that? She thought. She distinctly remembered asking him if he loved anyone back home and he said no. She'd fulfilled her end of the requirements.
The worst part of it, she thinks, is that everyone knew. It was too small of a community to get away with having a secret love affair.(there is a similar mention of this later on).

A mention of a intrusive search done to a woman by a bad guy.

A bad guy threatens to sell a woman to a Greek man he knows who likes women from Türkiye.

This book was really exciting and action packed, but due to the main male character having been married when he was first starting to date the main female character. I would probably recommend the other books in this series over this one to be honest. I was not required to write a review and the thoughts above are my own.

Emma spent the first 10 years of her life living in Afghanistan, but due to a threat to her family they fled to America. A local church in San Antonio Texas gave her family a home in their love for Jesus Christ. She recently left the military for the private sector, but still works with the company that Lt.Jorge piña works for. She’s met him before and thought he may like her and now she is determined to find out. After a slow start her in Captain piña start a tentative relationship and right before the first kiss the chaplain appears with devastating news for him and for her. For him it’s something he should’ve shared but when he tries to explain she isn’t listening. Although they still have to work together she tries to keep her head in the game but even the captain notices something is off. She feels betrayed not only by him but the whole company. Can he explain enough so that she knows the truth or well the only woman that’s ever peaked his interest get away from him? She speaks six languages he could’ve told her in at least one of them but is it too late? This is such a great book I love Holly‘s books I love all her characters have such a depth it seem as if they could be real people. I have never read a military romance, but then again Holly hasn’t written one before. I can’t recommend this book enough and can’t wait for the next book in the series. I love her faith based stories and that God always has a cameo in her books. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own. This is truly a must read for any Christian romance Fan.

Loved Jorge and Emma's story!! Jorge and Emma meet when they're on a mission together. They're drawn to each other, but it's still over two years later that things finally start happening. However, Jorge has a secret. One that involves another person, and it's a huge secret. He's never thought he'd fall in love, and he never thought he'd want to get married and settle down. He was sure his secret would never need to come out. Until, suddenly, it does. Will Jorge and Emma be able to get past his secret, or will he lose her forever?? Such a great start to this new series!! Can't wait to read the next book!!

Hall's Bridgeman does it again. She writes another page-turner. She keeps you on the edge of your seat. The book doesn't an excellent job of describing post 9-11 military life. In the midst of the page-turning Hallee weaves a story of grace and love.

I adore military heros. And I adore suspense. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am for this series. I’m literally bouncing in my bed lol.

This book set up the series so well. It’s probably a good thing the next book isn’t out or I’d get no sleep tonight. The faith element is something that raises this book above all other military suspense romances. It simply completes it so well. I cannot wait to find out what life and faith lessons Bridgeman has in store for us through this series.

The most challenging thing about this book was having to close the cover to go to bed! It was filled with intrigue, danger, life or death, questionable happily ever after, deciding whether or not to forgive and be open to God’s plan…..whatever emotion can be felt is experienced beginning to end! Well written, well executed, a gifted author I’m happy to have found!

I enjoyed this book & the start of a new series! It has just the right amount of mystery, romance, misunderstanding, & forgiveness. It has no bad language for a military-type story. I consider it a "clean" romance story also. I very much want to read the other books. I was given a copy by the author. I chose to write this review.
