R.G. Alexander's 'Children of the Goddess' series just gets better with the second book, "Lux in Shadow". A quick warning that THIS book IS erotica and involves a menage of M/F/M. There are also scenes of M/M, M/M/F, and M/F including the use of toys, light bondage, a hot spanking, and sex in all the orifices I can think of. All of this is done well (and smoking hot) and rolled into the story of a vamp, a were, and a werewoman-with-special-powers-who-can't-change-forms. Whew!
Lux is happy for his brother, Zander, and his new grathia (lifemate). But he just can't forget how he failed to protect his lover from the recent violence. And now he's plagued with desire for the handsome werewolf Alpha, Arygon, who he wants but feels he must resist to punish himself. Exacerbating the situation is their mission to find the missing sister of the man who almost killed them. According to their seer, this woman must be protected. It only takes one glimpse of the woman they're looking for and both males are hooked. But each will have their own internal demons to fight before they can be true mates.
There's so much more going on, but I don't want to give it all away! Suffice to say this series has caught my attention in a big way and now my quandry is: Do I wait for the print version of book 3 "Twilight Guardian" or do I give into the lure of quick satisfaction and buy the ebook that's already available? Decisions, decisions. This series is one I don't confuse with any other paranormal or vamps and weres out there because it has enough differences to stand out in my memory. The first book was a twosome, this one is a threesome--but both books are ultimately about love, finding that special someone/s, and accepting their strengths and weaknesses as well as your own. All this and hot sex too.
Damn what can I say...this is one hell of a series. In Lux in Shadow we have Lux, Sylvain and Arygon's story and it's a great one. All three characters are amazing...fierce, strong willed, honorable and sexy as hell. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, loads of steamy sex so hold on tight, cause it's one hell of a ride. Highly recommend.
The story gets a 3.5 Stars, the well written heat and erotica push it to a comfy 4 stars.
The author has an engaging writing style which kept me entertained. The chemistry and bond beween Lux, Sylvian and Arygon was what made this book for me. The first book was a nice read, this is hot.
The book could do with being a tad longer, and few things fleshed out a tad more, but still a really enjoyable read.
Lux lost a lover to his carelessness at the end of the first book (Regina in the Sun), now he's met his mates- both of them- and he's afraid to let go and love them. One, a male werewolf, has been chasing him since he met the sexy pierced vamp healer- the other his destiny, the ethereal Sylvain (sister to his sister-in-law). Only passion will bring them together and only Lux's fear and Sylvain's secrets will keep them apart. It will take the stubborn will of an arrogant werewolf to break down the walls in time to bring Sylvain into the power she's called to wield, but will it be before a power hungry wolf takes her from this world, once and for all?
I'm really diggin this erotic paranormal romance series. I dont usually go for the whole m/m thing but throwing in the girl somehow works for me ::eyebrows dancing::.
The mythology in this book is fresh and very, very clever. I really like the world that R.G. built and I couldn't help but read the rest of the series. As a whole, this series is freakin' awesome with some twists and turns that never even crossed my mind. Brilliant stuff! You'll see this same review for all four books, though the ratings may vary a little.
I'm truly enjoying this series. In Lux in Shadow we find that Lux wil not only find his mate but two mates. We learn more about the war between the Truebloods and the Were's as well as those black magic Shadow weres who are at to kill all, themselves included. That the unborns who were thought to be an abomination are necessary to the peace of all. I'm finding it a must read.
Ooh, that was awesome. I loved Lux's story. I love when a series continues to get better with each book. This series is definitely on my favorites list.... Very erotic and sexy as hell!!!!!
Lux Sariel has been tormented by guilt in the five months since his lover was slain by the old and feared enemy, Les Loups De L'Ombre, the Shadow Wolves. It has changed the once easy going and openly sexual Trueblood healer, making him a male of control and self denial. On a quest to find the protected sister of the now dead Shadow Wolf leader Grey Wolf with the gorgeous and sexually aggressive Dydarren werewolf pack Alpha Arygon, the fruitless search and sleepless, nightmare-filled nights are getting to him. And so is Arygon.
Arygon Dydarren knows he is anathema to his people, a male who seeks sexual companionship from other males, but ever since he first set eyes on Lux Sariel, he's had hope. The Goddess would not have given him a male mate if She thought he was worthless. Lux may be stubborn as all hell, but Arygon is sticking by him, putting himself right in his face until the vampire sees what's right in front of him. And when he catches scent of the female werewolf they'd been sent to retrieve, and he and Lux finally see the ethereal beauty for the first time, Arygon realizes something that Lux is too guilt-laden to see or sense for himself. Lux Sariel doesn't just have one mate...he's got two.
Mother Goddess.
She is Antara, the bogeyman of her people, the destroyer. Since she was a child, Sylvain has been kept hidden, kept safe, but it has been a safety that's limited her contact with the outside world and ostracized her from her people. She is the werewolf who cannot change shape, the one who stands in the space between, and according to the true legends, and against all male superstition, she is not to destroy, but to save her people. And her first scent of Lux Sariel tells her two things, the prophecy has begun...and Lux is her mate.
Arygon and Sylvain have a bullheaded mate and a prophecy to see to, and Lux isn't cooperating. And only the three of them together will be able to change the course of both of their species. The Mother Goddess has deemed it so.
R.G. Alexander has created a dark, delicious world with fascinating and original mythos that is unrivaled in erotic romance. I was highly impressed with the first book in the series, Regina in the Sun, and almost taken aback at the quality of world building and depth of history imbued in that dark gem.
Picking up shortly after Regina in the Sun left off, the story shifts focus to the Trueblood vampire Lux Sariel and the werewolf Alpha Arygon Dydarren, two characters we met in the previous novel, and their quest for the sister to Grey Wolf that Regina asked them to find. Lux is hardly recognizable as the weight of his recent past weighs on him, but his emotional state and the reasons behind his motivations are wonderfully described and detailed. Arygon is a nice counterpoint with his unashamed sensuality blanketing a core of vulnerability and a tragic, heartbreaking past. I enjoyed both of their characters and applaud Alexander's ability to pen realistic emotional consequence to her male characters.
I wasn't as pleased with Sylvain, but that's no criticism of the author. Her character is well written, given depth and a realistic backstory to explain her personality. My preferences, though, lie in stronger, confident female leads, females who know their own strength and mind and use it. Sylvain is far more submissive in nature than I prefer.
As in the first book, Lux in Shadow offers up solid story potential, building off the mythos previously defined. For that reason I wouldn't recommend this one as a stand-alone novel and would suggest readers start with the first book in the series to get a better idea of the world and the characters of Lux and Arygon.
The drawbacks of the first book, though, are felt even more keenly in this one, and I had some significant issues with the berevity of the non-sexual aspects of the plot. The exposition was handled nicely for those who have read the first book, but there wasn't much development given to the progressing arc of the series plot and almost nothing of consequence to stand out as a episodic book plot arc beyond the sexual relationship between the three lead characters. That's a huge shame, because Alexander went into such fantastic depth with the history of this world and the dangers threatening all of the species, only to skimp to such egregious degree on using that backdrop to develop an equally rich and robust story.
Bluntly put, there's just too much sex and not nearly enough that's not.
I almost can't believe I'm saying that. Admittedly, the sex is very well written and hot. Alexander writes lusty, erotic, delightfully graphic sex scenes. I've mentioned in other reviews that Menage a trois relationships very rarely work for me, but the one between Lux, Arygon, and Sylvain is one of the best I've read - and that's strictly due to Alexander's talents. They truly are a loving threesome, and they have all mated to each other, which satisfies my need for equality in a relationship. That being said, so many of the sex scenes seemed more about titillation than plot progression, and that's where my line is between an erotic novel and plotless erotica.
That impression wasn't helped along by the fact that Lux is a dominant who likes sexual control, and bondage came into play often. I like a little bondage and dominance as much as the next gal, but to the exclusion of all else isn't to my taste, so it's possible I'm biased, but the sex seemed more about physical pleasure than emotional connection and the emotional connection between the characters felt lacking in ways it hadn't been between Regina and Zander in the first book.
I would love to see what Alexander can really do with this dark, twisted world she's created and the vibrant, three dimensional characters she can develop. So far the focus seems to be more on the sex than on the story, especially in this book. A better balance between the two would definitely take this series to a whole other level.
Warning: This book contains sumptuously sexy scenes of explicit sex, unconventional sex, voyeurism, bondage, menage a trois, and the following sexual pairings: M/M, M/F, M/F/M, & M/M/F, and may offend some readers.
Children of the Goddess #2 Wow! This was a good addition to this very entertaining series.
The only problem I've had with this series is that the books are not long enough. When I get done. I always feel like there should've been so much more. I don't know how to explain it, except to say that there are times when I turn the page and actually end up going back to make sure that I didn't skip a page.
The authors writing is very entertaining and engaging. It keeps your attention and keeps you interested in the story throughout. It's good and I like it. However, if she added more… Filled in some of the blanks. Added more description to the story, the characters, the intrigue, the fight scenes and the emotion, I believe that her stories could go from being good to epic. Enjoy!
I get the story. I get the emotional dynamic of a self-assured ancient trio of magickal beings. And I get that, if you've lived a couple of hundred years, you get less fazed about boundaries and ownership. It's something that some of us even experience in our limited lifespans. So it's cool to see that in writing.
Though I found a few hinges and screws loose in the writing (a proofreader could've helped with some of that), the erotica was probably too blinding for any editor to stay focused. In a good, happy way. *giggles*
Some people in the reviews mentioned this book doesn't have a plot. Well I thought it had more of one than the first book. I mean, that's not saying much but I did like this one better than the first.
Honestly, the only reason I carried on with the series is because I wanted a short easy story with mfm smut. That is exactly what I got. If you are looking for anything else, well don't read this book.
Lux in Shadow is book two in R.G. Alexander's Children of the Goddess series. Lux Sariel is haunted by the death of his former lover who was murdered during an attack on his people. With the help of Arygon he must find a woman Sylvain who has the power to save his people. Her life is in danger and Lux and Arygon must find her before the Shadow Wolf does. When Arygon and Lux find Sylvain they discover that the three of them are mates, which only complicates the situation more.
I picked up this book because my good friend Dana really likes R.G. Alexander and I haven't ever read anything by this author before. She had recommended this series. When I was at the used book store the other week, I picked it up on a whim. It was a mistake to read this book before reading Regina in the Sun, Children of the Goddess book one. I was struggling to understand who the different factions were in the book. I didn't completely understand the world building.
I will say even though the world building was complicated I liked that there is a feeling of Native American mythology to the story. It put a different slant to vampires and werewolves. I enjoyed the characters' interactions with each other and the whole threesome plot didn't seem too contrived. It worked within in the context of the story. I will have to go back and read the first book to see if certain gaps in the storyline are filled in. The overall plot in the book is easy to understand, yet the world building just felt incomplete.
Similar formula as the first, though there were three in the main relationship this time instead of two. Lots of hot sex. Little bit of dom/sub. Interesting story overall, but I can't put my finger on why I didn't like it as much as the first. I just didn't. Maybe I didn't feel the same kind of buildup in the relationship? It seems they "got to it" very quickly compared to the last one, but then again, we learned Lux is a horndog in the first book, lol. I'm looking forward to reading #3 though, Kit's story.
Lux shot up from the grassy riverbank, his eyes haunted. He ran a shaky hand through his hair, the sounds of water and scent of the new spring grass recalling him to the present.
Another one of those damned dreams. Penance for the blood on his hands.
Despite mainly rave reviews of this book here, I could only do a "meh". Maybe I'm more vanilla than I realized.
An erotic take on the standard Vampires, Werewolves and Magic oh my. Children of the Goddess has all the usual paranormal creatures but in a much more compromising position. This series has an ongoing plot, repeat characters and constant introduction to new faces. This is not your standard erotic romance there is straight, gay and bisexual encounters so be warned.
This book is amazingly sinful and I would recommend to all. It's the reason I started looking into gay romance. I loved the dynamic between Arygon and Lux. You can't help but fall in love with Sylvain as well. Unlike other threesome books, you never feel as though one of them just got thrown into the loop. You can completely see and believe why they must all be together.
I was really frustrated with this book. I couldn't get a feel for the characters at all, they seemed shallow and not very fleshed out at all. This also isn't a very long book, so I'll take that as a reason why. It seemed like big chunks of character development were missing. I may see what else this author has on offer, but I don't think I'll finish this series.
I'm actually really impressed with this series. Why am I shocked? I guess because the first book was a free Kindle book at the time. The 1st one sucked me in, so I bought this one. I will definitely read the next one. This 2nd book had a bit too much M/M sex scenes for my liking.
Whew it was hot while reading this book!! I really enjoy the different beliefs and history this author puts in all of this series! I just really enjoyed it and can't wait to dive into the next one!
this book was HOT i was in awe of it all the scenes were unbelievable i was never bored plus this crazy werewolf vampire story continues to gain my respect and love
