Honestly, this is the perfect beginner witchcraft/herbalism book!

Annabel pays special attention to fully explaining and outlining the basics of herbalism as it relates to spellcraft and hearthcraft. I love that this book is intended for beginners, and ALSO helps build a solid foundation from which magical practitioners can continue to build upon their skills and experiences as they branch out with their craft.

20 stars. Highly recommend! :D

i'm leaving the rating blank on this one mostly because i read it out of interest, not a desire to put anything into practice. i have a lot of allergies (indoor and outdoor), but i'm still interested in things that make me sneeze haha i do sub both this author's channels and very much enjoy her videos. it's kind of like how i enjoy melting wax that smell like desserts i can't eat (lactose intolerant too ugh lol) - it's a way for me to experience things without doing/consuming them myself. so i love watching her pick herbs and be out in nature because i'd love to be doing those things too. i'm getting off track here...

this book is really informative with tones of compendiums and basic spellcraft recipes for different herbal magick (obviously), so if you're looking to start practicing, this seems like an excellent intro. she really stresses the importance of continued research especially before ingesting things, and always mentions potential allergens and complications. i also particularly liked the explanation of how the gender of plants doesn't mean the same thing as gender in people - very well done and lovely to see someone get it "right" with their first book, if that makes sense!

although i am allergic to the world, there's a lot of good basic info in here for exercises and practices i can actually try! as a (brief) former teacher, i like all the mentions of how certain things may work for some but not others, and gives other methods to try instead. i'd imagine a lot of spells that focus on visualizing would be difficult for people with aphantasia, and it's just nice to see alternative paths. all the information here is clear and detailed, and it's clear that it's by no means supposed to be the only book on green magick or any witchcraft you need to own.

as a bit of a nitpick, i didn't love the tone of a lot of the larger intro paragraphs. i think the author was going for academic, but it comes off a bit condescending at times. people who have never watched the author on youtube might interpret it differently, but because i know she is a genuinely lovely human, i just assumed it was her still trying to find her voice as an author. because she obviously has a MASSIVE amount of knowledge and she loves sharing it and helping other people on their own paths as well. but it might not come across that way if the book is your first impression. more of a thought than a criticism!

also worth noting...i'm usually the type of (fiction) reader to put a tiny dogear fold on a page i find interesting or want to return to, but this book is FULL of page flags! i do like to annotate nonfiction and damn i almost had to buy more tabs lol seriously cannot stress enough the amount of information you get in here!! well worth the price (my mom, who gifted it to me) paid! the illustrations throughout are also lovely. even though i'm not looking to practice this sort of spellcraft, i will 100% buy every book this author writes in the future. and continue to watch her on youtube, obviously!

“A beginner stays a beginner by reading beginner books, and I wanted to go beyond that. ” - from the authors YouTube channel. And they do just that! This was more than a cursory book on herbal spell craft, I learned so much!

I've been following Annabel Margaret's Youtube channel for some time and she produces some of my favorite content on the platform. So when she announced that she was writing a book on witchcraft and herbal spellcraft I bought it as soon as it was available. The book is intended to take a novice practitioner to the intermediate level and I think it does exactly that. Annabel thoroughly but concisely introduces several different subjects that might otherwise be overwhelming to a beginner (ex. me). Her writing is approachable and well researched, and she provides a good balance between magical practice and practical considerations. I especially enjoyed learning more about relating magic to the phase of the moon and seasons. I certainly left the book feeling more motivated to explore different areas of the practice on my own. She also thoughtfully includes her sources in a bibliography at the end of the book which is cool because I love going down research rabbit holes in my free time. All in all a great read and addition to my shelf, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone curious about green witchcraft.

I'm still learning about green witchcraft and related traditions so I've been looking at several different books that discuss the subject matter in broad strokes. It's all been helpful for a beginner but I hadn't really found a book that discussed in greater detail the internal work that goes into spellcraft or engaging with the natural world until Herbal Magick.
I really appreciate Margaret's section on intuition and intent. She goes into helpful detail on the definitions of them and how to practice developing one's personal understanding and usage of these skills. Her point being that you can read up on her chapters on various herbs and spells but anything you do should be backed up with a reasonably clear understanding of the outcome you wish to create and sense of how your materials can help you achieve that outcome.
The language she uses isn't judgmental or strict by any means, she writes in a way that will help the reader reach a better understanding of themselves and the nature surrounding them. She emphasizes how valuable each person's personal journey in green witchcraft is.

Annabel wrote a wonderful book guiding the reader, with simple exercises, to strengthen their intuition and to work with intent. I found it precious especially for those who struggle with visualization.
The book also contains the magical uses of herbs we can easily plant or already have in our kitchen, as well as simple and effective spells for cleansing, protection, banishment and healing. Exactly what I was looking for!
Among many popular witchcraft books I've read, I finally found a simple, very easy to read, perfectly written book NOT based on new age, Wicca practices and principles. A real gem!

Herbal Magick by Annabel Margaret is an absolutely stunning book. I initially bought the ebook but ended up getting the physical version because of the beautiful art.

The language is clear and beginner-friendly, making complex topics accessible. The herbs used in the spells are quite readily available, even in Finland, and the introductions are very clear. I could almost hear Annabel’s voice as I read, just like in her YouTube videos.

Overall, this is a must-have for any practitioner. It’s a beautiful, practical, and engaging book. I give it 5 stars.

The thing I like most about Annabel’s approach to teaching is that she doesn’t tell you one way to do something, she teaches skills to create your own approach to spellcasting. Her thoughtful description of setting intent and intention considers your individual strengths – I finally feel like I understand how to fully use my energy in these ways. This book will be a staple in my magical library. I can’t wait to try some of the spells in the book.

This book isn't like any other that I have come across so far in my journey as a beginner magic practitioner. The way Annabel explains things makes anything I read easy to understand. She made learning new skills so much easier especially when it comes to using energy in spell work as well as using intent in your workings. Definitely will be a useful and well-loved tool in my practice from now on.

I don't believe in magic or astrology or spirits or any sort of god. But I do believe in tea, and the inherent value of keeping plants in your house and using them as medicine and decoration. Lighting candles and keeping infused oils in jars is something I have no objections to. I also enjoy a nice botanical illustration. Overall, a great book for anyone who likes plants, whether or not they want to be witchy about it.

Such a good book with so much information but I think the best part of the book is the tone, it is so calming. I’d also say the book, hardback, is so tactile with the most luxurious paper with beautiful illustrations. Even if I was not interested in the subject I would want this book and it lives in my kitchen because of this. I can just pick it up and leaf through it when I’m feeling stressed and instantly feel grounded. I hope the author writes more soon.

I tried reading this once before and could not get into it at the time, but I'm glad I gave it another chance. I like that the author is a practitioner of the craft they are teaching (unlike some other authors): the book is both simple and informative, no fluff. The only thing missing for me might be some thoughts on plant spirits and how they work with them.

Great beginner or intermediate book. I picked this book up because it goes over how to prepare herbal preperations, but it also has magical ones too.

I appreciated the fact that for every herb used withing the spell compendium, there is an entry in the herbal compendium. Although, I wouldn't use the herbal compendium as the sole resource for magical correspondences

Beginners guide - and almost perfect as one. Goes into basics on herbs and spells, setting one up to work. Well-written and illustrated. (Slight bits of repetition.) I'd give this to anyone just starting out. It's a good reference work as well.

I really enjoyed this one! It felt genuine and down to earth. But I lacked information in the formulas as to what part of the herb or plant was intended. I would have also liked a short section on how to harvest, dry, and store the herbs, but such information is found in other books.

Let’s be honest, I read this for the herbs in it to see if it has any new information and also to learn new methods on creating balms and tinctures! Good information over all for beginners on herbalism.

A great book for the beginner and also for anyone who has deeper knowledge in witchcraft. I enjoy Annie's calm, thoughtful way of explaining and encouraging you to discover own practice. Solid research leads to a quick reference guide - with spells you can adapt to make your own.

Helpful beginner’s guide on hearthcraft and herb-based spell work. There isn’t anything new to really learn from this book if you’ve already read other books like this, but that doesn’t negate its usefulness.

Wonderful

I found this book to be very helpful. We must know that with the good can sometimes be found not so good. The spells are simple and I love the focus on herbs. Thank you

4☆ I think this is a good beginner's guide, but I've just read way too much on this subject already to have gained much from the reading experience. I think I'm burnt out on this subject 😅
