In the last days, people in Texas went about their daily business (errands, work, school) oblivious to the apocalypse gradually stirring beneath the layers of civilized society. The world appeared normal, but it was dying. Only a few noticed the signs before it was too late.
Revisit the final days of Ashley Oaks, the home of the Fort in the As The World Dies series, and experience the first hours of the outbreak through the eyes of familiar residents Peggy, Juan, and Calhoun, and meet new characters Cassie, Kimberly, and others.
Before Jenni & Katie arrived in the big red truck, others struggled to survive The Last Days.
Note: This book can be read before The First Days without spoilers.

Rhiannon Frater never disappoints! I loved the intro to the characters we all know and love and hope this leads to more books in this series in the future!
How lovely it was to be reunited with familiar characters and also introduced to new ones. This series is my favourite zombie series so I'm always happy to return to The Fort and it was a treat to get to see what happened there before the arrival of Jenni and Katie.
This was the perfect beginning to my favorite series. It captivated me from the beginning. It doesn’t give anything away from the original series and allows you to see where things started.
I am glad I decided to reread the series the way I did, I reread book 1 then read this one and I will reread the rest. Really hope this isn't the end to this series. I love this series, it is one of my favorite zombie series 😍❤️
Perfect beginning to the series without spoiling the first book.
The prequel I didn’t know we needed but we did .. an alternative start to the Last Days series giving the backstory to some much loved characters and introducing some new ones while the world falls apart , Rhiannon’s character development and observation is as always what makes her story fabulous even down to the fact grandmas old chihuahua was a bitey little shit ( guess who else owns a chihuahua 😂) .. A must read .
I love a great prologue and day 0 story. This exceeded my expectations. I love the characters and knowing what happens to most. The author is not afraid to tell the sad story when it comes to zombies and the end of the world. I need more.
While it was great revisiting the Fort and these familiar characters, the copy I had was so full of grammatical and punctuation errors, along with bad editing and repeating pages, that it made reading it less enjoyable.
