When Darkness Falls

Rate this book
A devastating loss, a broken marriage, and the love of a God who never lets go...

Luke Meyer no longer believes in the goodness of God. Not after the unthinkable shock that drove him and the wife he loved apart. Now, devoted to emergency medicine in the bustling coastal city of Durban, his former home in the Drakensberg mountains feels a million miles away.
Vanessa Meyer imagined a different life to the one she now leads - a life with a loving husband and a houseful of children. Still, she remains grateful for the daughter she does have and a place to call home in the mountains, even if it is without the man she once so loved.

When family illness forces the hurting pair back together after so many years apart, will the resurfaced memories bring only pain, or will the ex-lovers find healing, not only for their marriage, but for their hearts also.

A tender tale of second chance love, a surprise blessing and a fresh start.

I could not put it down! I laughed, a lot! And I also cried! Ashley Winters has a unique ability to make her Characters come alive on the pages. No matter who you are or where you are in your spiritual journey, if this doesn't touch you then I don't know what will. Inspiring! Romantic! Funny! Gut wrenching at times but absolutely worth reading!

I loved the characters, written with such passion and is relatable to many many of us. Easy reading, funny, yes and a few tears but once again shows us that God can move mountains.

I think this is one of Ashley's best books yet. I smiled, I cried and could really relate to all the characters. I also love the fact that she incorporates some of the previous characters from previous books in her stories. It keeps her audience involved in their lives. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Loved it.

What a captivating story of redeeming love, of forgiveness and family. An absolute page turner. Some parts had me wishing I could read faster to see the outcome, other parts had me wishing I could slow down time to be in the moment with the characters. So looking forward to the rest of the series!

I received an ARC - really enjoyed the book! Cannot wait for the rest of the series!!

Torn apart by unimaginable grief and sorrow, Luke and Vanessa see each other after 13 years apart. Never divorced but seperated, Luke still loves Vanessa but is mad at God. He finds that Vanessa had a daughter, Zoey, but according to her she doesn't know who her father is.
Can Luke make peace with God and patch things up with Vanessa? More importantly, can Luke forgive himself?

A great Christian-fiction book, the first in the new series. Definitely a book that kept me hooked from beginning to end and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

Loved this book. It was quite a tough read for me having lost a child myself. I could certainly relate to both Luke and Nessa's journeys. Shed quite a few tears. Loved the Berg setting. Great job Ashley and thanks for allowing me the sneak preview. Can't wait for book 2. I've read all your books and enjoyed every single one.

Luke and Vanessa's story is one of young love and dreams but also one of the deepest loss a couple can experience. It is a story of forgiveness and redemption and learning that love and hope keep us together. I loved the characters and am looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.

I loved this start to a new series! Real romance, a bit of suspense and the pages just have to keep turning! I really wished it did not end so soon... Ashley Winter writes in a way that draws me into the story and the characters from the first word and I am literally in a hook until the end - and the promise is there of the continuation; I am so looking forward to that. I did receive an ARC of this book and this is my unbiased, personal opinion. Well done Ashley!!!

My first time reading this author - I really was chuffed to find a South African Christian Romance author and I really enjoyed this book.
The story is really well written, the tensions and relationship dynamics are realistic. The romance is clean, there is passion but it is written in a God honouring manner. I really liked that divorce wasn't the go to for this couple, even after years apart.
I really loved the setting - Drakensberg is an amazing place.
***This is definitely an author that is added to my reading list.

When I found myself struggling to get into a new book, I wanted something that would captivate me from the get-go. This book did not disappoint. I was immediately drawn in and when I blinked I found myself at chapter 8 already. Had I continued, I would have found myself still reading in the early hours of the morning. I am glad I was reminded of how much I loved reading Ashley Winter's books, all set in South Africa, where I reside. The local vocabulary makes the story hit closer to home and so relatable.
"Nessa" reminded me of another God ordained couple I knew who reflected true love - aunty Vanessa, Nessa.
