Outcasts of Corin #2

The Alien's Surrender

Rate this book
I uncaged a monster…

Amber: The blue alien warrior pacing in his cage terrifies me. His long dark hair is wild and messy, and his scarred body looks made for murder. I deliver food to him every day, and I’m sure by the way he stares at me that he’d rather eat me. Yet there’s something about him that captivates me, and I can’t stop watching him. When he lets the snarling, fearsome mask slip for a moment, I start to see there’s a cool calculation to his actions. I would be risking everything—his life and mine—to help him escape, but do I dare let this monster free from his cage?

Vinz: Getting captured on purpose is not my favorite activity. The food sucks, the guards beat me as their favorite pastime, and more than anything, I miss a good flask of spirits. But I’ll endure all of that for her—the human. She walks like she’s floating, has a voice as soft as Fatas herself, and always gives me the fullest food bowl.

As long as I’m here, I can ensure she’s safe. Until my hands are forced. Until suddenly she’s a vulnerable female in my hands. Until her entire fate rests on me, the outcast of the outcasts. They think I’m a monster? I haven’t even come close to my final form, and for her, I’ll be the worst beast of all.

I’ve liked all of Ella Maven’s Drixonian romances that I’ve read, and this one is nice, too. I don’t think it particularly stands above the pack, but I liked the main characters and they had good chemistry.

Amber is a human woman who was abducted from Earth some time ago and somehow ended up as a slave worker in a small prison. Vinz, a Drixonian alien man, spies her from outside and intentionally gets himself captured, beaten, and locked in the prison so he can save her…from inside a cell? This obviously doesn’t work and is of no help to Amber whatsoever.

(Thanks for nothing, Vinz.)

She ends up having to rescue him herself and helps him escape, which begs the question…if she was able to smuggle someone out of the prison all along, why wouldn’t she just leave herself? No explanation given there. But anyway, they get away and get together, overcoming their own hangups with the power of love and all that good stuff.

This book is sweet and even though there’s some angst and the leads have suffered quite a bit of trauma, there's a fluffy low-stakes feel to the entire plot that makes this a nice by-the-fire kind of read.

Would recommend if you want a quick read to smile and not think too much. I think you could read this as a standalone, without having read any of the rest of the Drixonian books, though I’m sure it makes more sense in context.

This one was suspenseful and intense through the entire story.
I am so IN LOVE with Vinz and Amber. Great chemistry together.

So many plot twists here, and a few heartbreaking reveals regarding Vinz.

This was an awesome 2nd installment to this series.

I am so upset that Kutzel, the leader of the Lone Howls aka Sons of Naught, his story will not be released until late June 😭😭😭 I've been dying for this male's story. Sucks I have to wait...

I would definitely recommend this series. But I STRONGLY suggest you read the original Drixonian Warriors series first, and work your way through the Spin offs in order, before you reach this 3rd Spin off.

Awesome characters and story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚💜💙❤️
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 😒🥺🙂🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Amber - she and other human women are on the planet Corin. They had all been abducted from earth by aliens, they were mistreated and experimented on to the point where they had been altered and each has special abilities then they were tossed out like trash. They have had to fight for their freedom every day since then, even since they had started to make a life on Corin. They are afraid of all alien races after what happened to them, so they try to stay within their own group on Corin until one night their camp is attacked and they are abducted again by aliens.

The Heroes: Vinz - he is a Drixonian male, an outcast. The outcasts are sons of deserters and are looked upon as if they were the ones that deserted. They expect never to be granted mates because of their status as outcasts. His race used to live on Corin but left after a virus wiped out their female population and left Corin by choice and only now after the war, have returned to their home planet. They found it changed and other races had moved in and made it their home. The Wutarch’s are the worst of them and the Drixonians were trying to find peace between the two races, despite the fact that the Wutarch’s were an awful race that treated their females terribly.

The Story: Vinz had wondered why the Wutarch’s were so set on the Drixonian’s not crossing their borders, so he snuck across and found some other aliens (the Jocktal) that looked like they could start a war at some point. Vinz’s goal in life was to make things interesting, so he didn’t give a fleck about rules or treaties and lived to do what he wasn’t supposed to be doing. Though he did care about his brothers and was always willing to put himself at risk for any of them. When Vinz sees a human female, he knows he has to do something.

Vinz purposely got captured by the Jocktal, in an effort to find the human female. He was beaten and put in a barred cell, but the human female was the one that was tasked with bringing all the prisoners' food each day. Amber’s special ability was that she could stay awake for up to a week, though when she did sleep, she was dead to the world for a few days.

I liked the storylines in this book. The fact that Amber and Vinz went through similar things at the hands of the Uldoni years ago was something that bonded them. Though like in the first book in this series, Vinz as an outcast doesn’t think a mate is for him even after they both get mating marks because he is a son of naught, an outcast. Drixonian law says that all male relatives of a deserter of the Drixonian army are punished and that includes making sure the line ends with them.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Gabriel McKnight and Reagan West. Reagan West has an expressive voice that is a bit lower than I usually like for a female narrator, though that just means she is better at doing male voices than many. Gabriel Mcknight has a soft, not-so-deep voice, and is able to use different tones for different characters. He does a good job and overall, the narration is not bad at all.

Quick(ish) Review

Review - The Alien's Surrender by Ella Maven (Outcasts of Corin #2)

The second book in this spinoff series continues the story and gives a slightly different perspective on fated mates, or as they are with the Drixonians, the cora-eternals. Vinz is a hot mess express! That boy is on a mission to get himself killed, you know the I'm so messed up I'd rather go out in a Blaze of Glory, call me young gun....if you get that reference, you are my people.

Anyway, yeah, I've realized that I liked these continuing sagas, they're like my own little soap operas but in book form, and this is no different. Vinz and Amber complement each other well, we get glimpses of the couple from the first book, but it's definitely centered on the Outcast clavas, which I like and while I can tell you the inevitable storyline beats by heart, I don't mind because I like these characters. This entry rates a little higher because I didn't feel the urge to skim but I was genuinely curious as to how Vinz was going to accept his feelings, and there's some worldbuilding for future story. If you're a fan of SFR, this isn't breaking new ground but it is a comfort read at this point for me, so you may enjoy it.

Vinz's story was heartbreaking, and I'm glad he got his happy ending.

*****
Rating: 4 stars
Steam: 2 flames
Genre/Tropes:Alien Romance
Triggers: Sexual abuse
*****
Vinz is impulsive, takes excessive risks, and often appears to have a death wish, but that's not all... He keeps everyone at arm's length and has never truly spoken about his time with the Uldani’s. Amber, once a prisoner of the Uldani’s, and then captured by the Wutarks, is once again a prisoner. What will happen when she finds the severely beaten big blue alien in one of the prison cells.

Amber and Vinz’s tale is fraught with pain, heartache, self-loathing, and distrust. But somehow, these two broken souls find a way to heal one another. I am not going to lie, Vinz’s story was sad and it hurt to finally realize what he suffered, but the way Amber handled his issues was priceless. This couple’s HEA is hard won, but so totally worth it. It was wonderful to see these two get an HEA.

I enjoyed this book and plan to continue reading the series as long as the author continues to create stories about these warriors. This series is for everyone who enjoys protective aliens and strong female protagonists. A must read series, in my opinion.

A sweet series

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2. Not a deep, angsty series. That was my goal. i’m enjoying the paranormal storyline. That’s a bit unexpected because this isn’t an intense book. But the author has a tremendous imagination. She has created the world but is amazing. So I will continue with the series find out what happens next.🔥🔥🔥🔥/5

Enjoyed this one as well but I will still say the original series will always be my favorite. No meet ups with the original females and their mates. Still enjoyable though.

I liked the book.

I did have a few issues with the hero's behavior when he found out he was her fated mate (they call it cora eternal).

But once I knew the reason behind the hero's actions, I forgave him.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

When the hero finds out he and the heroine have "locs" matching marks on their wrists that appear when you find your fated mate, he freaks out. He doesn't tell her what they mean, he just tells the heroine they have to find them and not to tell anyone.

She finds out when she meets her friend (who got locs in book 1 of Outcasts of Corin series) what locs are. She is devastated that the hero doesn't want her.

She confronts the hero and says he can reject her but she just wants to know what she did wrong. He tells her he's not rejecting her, he's rejecting himself as anyone's fated mate.

He tells her he was tortured by the Uldani (same aliens that tortured heroine, so now heroine can go days without sleep). They wanted him to breed more warriors so they tied him down and tried to force him to have sex. Hero was so repulsed he never got an erection no matter how much they hurt him.

So he told her he can't be anyone's mate because he can't get an erection and she deserves a mate who can pleasure her. She tells him it doesn't matter and they can be intimate in other ways. He says he doesn't like any touches. So she says to let him touch her any way he wants, she won't touch him. If he doesn't like touching her, she'll leave and they'll never tell anyone they are mates.

Of course, he loves touching her and finally gets an erection, the first erection he's ever had. It was funny he's all freaked out and asking what he should do next.

They live happily ever after.

Another terrific entry in one of my favorite series!

If a book has a Drix in it the story will be 🔥🔥! I was not disappointed this one was so good action packed from page one with steal heart tugging story. Vinz. Spent time in the Uldani labs and he's a bit mentally unbalanced he believes he'll never be worthy of a mate and he's also the son of a deserter which automatically makes him less than his fellow warriors. But he will do anything to find and protect the human women because " she is all" is one of his reasons to carry on. But something changes when he meets Amber. Amber was taken from her camp on that fateful night that the ugly warthog aliens attacked. She was brought to this strong good with a bunch of strange red aliens that use her as a servant. She dreams of escaping and finding her friends. Then one evening when she's sent to feed the prisoners her life changes. The connection is instant between Vinz and Amber. But vinz fights it hard because he feels she deserves better. Amber knows Vinz.'s grumpy attitude is a defence mechanism and she's determined to see the real male beneath. The experience danger, anger, and laughter on their journey to freedom and reuniting with their friends. They learn each other's secrets and love saves both of them when they need it most! Absolutely loved it so much highly recommend 💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖💖🔥🔥

I really enjoyed this book. Vinz and Amber were a lot of fun to read. Amber was brave and caring, even in terrible, overwhelming circumstances, and Vinz was every bit the honorable Drixonian warrior even if he was reckless and impulsive. The villains were a surprise since we hadn't seen them before, though their motives are still a mystery. I have a feeling we'll learn more about that in the next book.

My only complaint (and this applies to the series, not just this book) is about the fact that these guys are "outcasts" in the first place. I realize it's written to be part of their former society, but for a race that values honor so much, it seems really dishonorable to punish a deserter's children and mate for a mistake they had no control over. They were innocent of the crime but still suffered for it. That's just my personal quibble with it, though.

I received an ARC of this book but that didn't impact my opinion. There were typos, which is to be expected in an advance copy. They didn't keep me from enjoying the story.

Another enjoyable addition to this world and a wild ride from start to finish! In the last book I became curious about Vinz, who came off as kind of a reckless jokester who could be quite a jerk. He didn’t seem to care much about his life or much else besides his loyalty to the other outcasts.

For this story, he happens upon a new enemy and realizes that one of the missing humans is their captive. And being the reckless warrior he is, he decides the best way to save her is to get himself captured. I loved how they actually ended up taking turns saving each other, and then began the journey of learning to open up and trust when they have both lived through serious trauma.

I also enjoyed seeing the outcasts slowly open up to each other more and show a vulnerable side.

Overall it was a great addition to the series (many errors but this was an advanced copy and will likely be fixed for pub day). I can’t wait to see who comes next! I have my suspicions on who the next book will feature 🙈

*Disclaimer: I received a free ARC ebook for my honest review. All thoughts here are my own!

Again, spelling and grammar issues.

I really like this one though. It was Amber and Vinz story. Don't read below if you don't want spoilers. Writing for my own benefit.

Spoiler alert!

Amber is captured by another alien race, the Joltis or something like that. I think they have triangle heads. They are in cahoots with the Wutarks. Amber has an alter of not needing to sleep for days but completely crashes when she does.

V- he's the really wired out guy of the group that everyone tolerates but also loves. He sees Amber captured in the camp of these other aliens and gives himself over so he can get inside of the prison to try and save her.

She saves him and there are these little aliens I want to see more of call Loris.

They finally make it back to Lone Howl and she's reunited with Tasha. At the end they find one of Trix's arrows outside of their camp so I'm assuming the next book is going to be Trix and probably Kutzel or however you spell his name.

I rightfully devoured this one too in one sitting, same as the first book!

This explored Amber and Vinz story and it was cute.

To be honest I would have loved if their characters were fleshed out more. Vinz especially interested me. His character was complex. Holding much trauma which affected him mentally and he holds on barely for his brothers until he meets Amber. He also is actually really funny and cute and it was so adorable how he became clingy once he and Amber finally became proper mates.

I love how Amber is soft and calm yet confident and the way she calms Vinz. I really like their personalities together. Honestly her character is so likable and I understand her so much. Having confidence for others but not for yourself.

I’m also intrigued to see how the world building is fleshed out in the remaining books. I mean we just found out about the Joktals and the other smelly guys are banding together?! I just want all the girls to be found and start their sweet family with the lovely Drix men.

Looking forward to the other books!

Good book in need of a bit of editing

This series is incredibly fun to read. It's clear that it's an offshoot of another series, but you do not need to have read that series to enjoy this one. I really enjoy the plots of books 1 & 2, and find the characters of this book interesting and loveable while also being complex and not always nice. I enjoy when characters have layers to them. The conflict of the book is believable and not frustrating as is so often the case in romance. I wouldn't say it's a top tier book, but it was very very good. My only company is that there were a number of copy editing issues in this book that weren't in the first in the series. Things like too instead of to or always instead of almost. I can read past this kind of error easily, but there were enough of them that I noticed it and I know for some people that's a deal breaker. For me, the book was entirely worth the time to read.

At first vinz’s(ml) personality was the most unique ı’ve ever seen and it was refreshing how he didn’t care about his own safety or anything else besides his brothers safety and wellbeing he liked to fight, was a little crazy and reckless. The fl(amber) was really brave in their realationship and she reached out to vinz when he püsledi her away. So she wasn’t as fierce as tasha but she’s definately a survivor. I really loved their interactions and how vinz was like a stray feral cat and was grumpy and how amber was just asking question after question even though vinz told her to shut up.
But after the confirmed their love for eachother its like they both became a generic couple with nothing special especially vinz the feral stray cat with a hint of madness and grumpyness turned into an overprotective lovesick fool like “where did vinz go and who is this guy?!” He didnt have to lose his personality just for us to understand he’s in love now.

I absolutely loved this book. Ella Maven gave me everything I want in a romance — characters that felt real, a believable connection, and a hero who’s willing to sacrifice himself for the woman he loves.

Amber, the FMC, was such a standout for me. She’s smart, brave, and vulnerable in a way that made her incredibly easy to root for. The MMC, Vinz, completely won me over as well. I love when a hero suffers quietly, enduring hardship just to protect his female, and Vinz embodied that perfectly.

The romance was a slow build, and the payoff was oh so good. Nothing felt rushed or forced — their connection grew naturally, and when it finally came together, it was deeply satisfying and gave me all the feels.

And I can’t forget to mention the lorries — so cute and lovable! They added an extra layer of charm to the story, and I really hope we see more of them in future books.

This story was absolutely fantastic, and I already know it’s one I’ll be rereading again and again. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys slow-burn alien romance with depth, heart, and a protective hero.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Just when I think I've read everything about this world and the drixonians, this author comes back with something even better!
We get to find out more about Corin and its inhabitants, these new humans with alters and we got to meet more sons of naught.
I am absolutely in love with Vinz!!!
He's funny and a bit of an asshole but he's been through a lot at the hands of the Uldani like Amber.
Their loks appear fast but he doesn't think he deserves her so he lies. The way she gets through to him was done beautifully and man am I there for it!
As always storytelling 11/10
Spice was slower in this one but it was sooo worth it
This one will be top 5 drixonians for me!

This was an interesting and quite an adventurous read. Maven has done an amazing job telling Vinz's and Amber's story, it was romantic, sweet, and at times pulls a bit at your heart strings. I loved Vinz, he was protective while thinking himself unworthy but oh so able, I could use one of him in my life. And then there's Amber, she's intelligent, patient, and her willingness to adapt is praiseworthy. I love how we get glimpses of other characters, it helps to tie this whole story together. And, let me tell you some of what goes on is jaw-dropping and makes you thinks. The romance we receive is hot and spicy so we are satiated. Overall, it's a great read and I'm waiting for the next one.

Outcasts of Corin - ❤️‍🔥 Vinz & Amber ❤️‍🔥

Well, it's official, Ella Maven is my new favorite SciFi "Alien" author. She knows how to write books that engage my mind & my heart. Her books aren't just sex sex sex. Don't get me wrong, there are hot alien warriors & lovely human women & the perfect amount of steamy, sexy time, but these books have bite to them.

These are fully fledged stories with very bad aliens, heroic good guy aliens, lots of danger, amazing human women who are survivors & warriors in their own way. There are so many bad@ss Drixonian warriors who are each unique & hot hot hot 🔥🔥🔥.

These books make me so happy & fulfilled. Thank you, Ella Maven ❤️ Please keep writing these awesome stories.

Ooooh, even better than the first one! I wasn't too keen on Vinz in the first book, but he really shines here as a wild & reckless hero who uses that attitude to cover up his hurt. He runs hot and cold with everyone, but Amber is the first one to call him on it and see that most of it is an act. She's pretty gentle and caring overall, but doesn't really stand for his bullshit and does a good job of standing up for herself against him. I liked that they got a lot of bonding time, even if Vinz was keeping a big bit of knowledge from her, and that Amber trusted him to keep their secret when they got back to camp.

A lot of action to wrap up the end of the book and set things up for the next one, and I assume the larger conflicts to come.

The Alien's Surrender is book 2 in the Outcasts of Corin series. This is an off-planet alien romance between a human female and an alien male. I really liked this book. It is an excellent continuation of the series. I am looking forward to continuing on to book 3. While the narration was mostly good overall, I did struggle with the male narrator's voice for the male main character. I was able to get past it most of the time, but it did bring me out of the story several times. The male main character is a bit more carefree and goofy than the other aliens and I think the narrator tried to bring that out in his voice, which I suppose did convey properly, but it still bugged me. Overall, I give this book 4.5 stars, rounded up.

Vinz 😍😍😍

I fell in love with Vinz in Lukent’s book, and I was so excited that this one was his! This honestly may be my favorite Ella book so far, and I’ve read all her books! Vinz is a really complicated and misunderstood character and my heart immediately went out to him. Amber and him had more in common than one would first guess. She was perfect for Vinz, patient and understanding, and I loved their growth throughout the book. This one was a slower burn than some of the other books, but the 🔥🔥🔥 was of course top tier! The overall series arc has me sucked right in, and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

Vinz I think is definitely misunderstood. A lone wolf beating to his own drum. When he sees a female held captive he knows he must intervene. In order to free her though he must let himself be captured and tortured. Every day Amber wonders who her new cell mate is with the unkempt hair and rough demeanor. Slowly they open up to each other but Amber knows and feels deep down that Vinz is holding back. Luckily she is able to break down the walls that he has built around himself. Love comes knocking and finally he answers the door. Together they are unstoppable and totally complete each other. A beautiful slow burn

I repeat, I enjoy this series way more than the original series.
If you love a grumpy damaged hero they don’t get much more damaged than this. I love Vinz so much and his first sexual experience is so sweet. It takes a special girl like Amber to get him and to not give up on him.
This was a great story with a great couple and in my male devirginizing opinion, a good one.

Virgin rating:
Innocence of virgin hero: 5/5 remember these guys don’t get erections until they meet their mates
Innocence in losing it: 5/5
Build up to losing it: 5/5
Hotness of losing it: 5/5
Busted touching himself: no
POV of losing it: male

Reading pleasure

This love story is one we all wish for ourselves. Where there is respect, trust, and love.
Our hero has what we call PTSD, brought on by mental and physical abuse by a rival race of aliens.
He takes solace in part by being a protector of his fellow clan. That is until he finds the human woman who takes forefront in his goals. She becomes his sole reason for living.
A prisoner of a beast like race, Tasha finds herself aiding the blue alien to escape his cell.
Together they follow a path of their own making to self awareness and learn to open their hearts and minds to one another.

Loved Amber and Vinz's xtory

Enjoyed the fact that both these very damaged protagonists when they met became tbe very heroes they professed they wdfe not!! Vinz went hot footing into tne villains camp solely to rescue someone he did not know but he knew she was a woman and she needed and deserved to be rescued. Then Amber hearing of the horrors the enemy planned to inflict upon Vinz rescues tnem both. They escape. And the journey in which they get to know each other not only brings about their special bonding symbol but also issues which Vinz has avoided all hid life!! A poignant story!! Great Read!!
