She tosses men away, he's a hothead that grew tired of trying. When he swoops in to rescue her, will they find each other?

26 year old Lucy loved her fun radio job, her cool apartment, her best friend, and a revolving door of men. She had big dreams to have her songs played on the radio, so she had no time for a serious relationship. She really just needed a warm body from time to time and had no problem dropping the men she always found herself involved with. Her favorite hangout always had music execs but they came for the bands who played. When she landed the lead singer gig for the house band at the club, she was one step closer to realizing her dream of becoming a professional songwriter.

Burly bartender Jason had the hots for Lucy, but she was too busy entertaining losers to notice him, even though he worked at the club she frequented. He gave up on her a while ago but couldn’t help look. It was probably for the best, he had already been through a lot and didn’t want to be another notch for her. But her curls and curves were not helping him move on.

But when Lucy found herself in a dangerous situation and Jason came to her aid, would she change her tune? Was there something there all along? Or would it turn out to be a huge mistake?

I loved this fun contemporary romance! Lucy is a singer who also works at a radio station and hangs out at her local bar with bestie Amy. She *may* or may not have caught the interest of the hot, moody bartender, Jason. Spoiler alert: he’s totally into her. I LOVED the body positivity, the best friends shopping scenes between Amy and Lucy, and when the book touched on some more serious topics and Jason came to Lucy’s rescue after an assault, he was amazing. Some neat surprise reveals about both main character’s backgrounds halfway through gave the story an interesting twist. Was a little worried when there was trouble brewing between Amy and Jason as I didn’t want to see Lucy forced to choose. I loved the chemistry between these two, and the fun, lighthearted banter in this great contemporary romance! 5/5 stars.

Such a great read! I laughed out loud! I cried! I was angry, happy, sad. All of the feels! The characters are well developed and relatable. The storyline flows smoothly! I read it on a Thursday afternoon and couldn’t put it down!

Lucy and Amy are great! Jason added to the mix was even better! We all need a little of each of someone like them both in our lives, and this was captured perfectly here!!

This is a solid 4.5 stars.

I love me a curvy leading lady and the relationship between Lucy and her best friend Amy was beautifully written. We all want that best friend who we can truly be ourselves with, and she wrote that.

Jason is the grump who had long given up being noticed by the girl oblivious to his attempts. Completely sullen that she still gives him butterflies and steals all his attention when she comes in with bad choice after bad choice on her arm.

The intimate moments were wonderfully done. The tension was great. Definitely excited to see what she does next!!

TW: this book has scenes of SA but the author does a wonderful job with the scenes and the process.

This was such a cute and lighthearted (for the most part) story! I never thought I would be attracted to a BLONDE male main character but here I am simping over Jason!! The spice was nice and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED AMY (the FMC's best friend)!!! I was happy to see Lucy grow with her emotions towards the end and was proud of her as a character! This was a pretty short story as well but I really enjoyed it! April is an amazing writer and as someone who reads dark of the dark, this was a great palette cleanser! ❤️

I’ve said it before, if you’re looking for something sweet and spicy, read a book from April D. Berry. I fell in love with the characters. They are so relatable! I question if April could look into my past and put certain things on paper. The writing was well done. It was an easy, entertaining read. Definitely looking forward to book 2.

An enjoyable read. You'll get happy with these characters, and sad with these characters, and then there will be the times when you just want to reach into the book and slap some sense into them. Did he really just say that? Did SHE really just say THAT???? lol. These two were just so in their own heads it was amusing. There were also some *nice* spicy scenes. I'm not typically a contemporary reader, and this book still held my attention (in fact, I read it in one sitting!). I wanted to strangle Jason, but maybe that's just me. :)

AMAZINGGGG

The premise of this is so freaking cute I could DIE! Jason and Lucy have chemistry for DAYS and while there were moments I wanted to beat Jason across the head, there were as many moments when I was like "BF GOLD!!!"

So well written too! Great pacing. I couldn't put it down. *chef's kiss*

A little bit of everything!

While this book touched on darker themes it was done in such a way that I still considered it a fun read. A little bit of grit to keep exiting, but a white hot romance, realistic inner conflict for both characters, and a best friend with a salty mouth. What more could you ask for?

I really enjoyed this debut novel by a new-to-me author. I loved Lucy and Jason, and their chemistry was H-O-T! The pacing was excellent as their relationship grew. Can't wait to read the next one in the series! If you love romance, grab this one and you'll most likely devour it in a day like I did.

I heard about Served on Booktok and thought it sounded good, but I didn’t expect to be as invested as I was. Lucy’s story and the support system she created was beautiful and one many people I know who have dealt with this sort of thing wish they had.

Amy is truly the best friend a girl could have! “She’s my person” 🥰🥰 and Jason is just…perfect. Perfectly flawed. He adores her and loves her, but I enjoyed seeing the insecure and irrational side as well—it’s not something I’ve seen portrayed very often.

Oh! I’d also just like to say THANK YOU to April for adding the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book! There have been several reads for me this year that should have had/needed TW but they weren’t listed or easily accessible. I appreciate it so much! ❤️

This is written by an obviously new author whose book is in desperate need of a full developmental edit (along with an actual edit). I have zero idea what this book is about because the first like 20 pages are them repeatedly drinking beer having super boring conversations about nothing and there’s no showing in this book which makes it hard to feel a connection to this story.

I’m being kind by not rating it. Please source a developmental editor who will tell you the truth. Fifty pure 5 star reviews show you have. Lot of kind friends on Booktok but they won’t help you grow as a writer (and hurt your chances of getting buy through)

Am I in love with Jason and wish he was real? Yes!!!!
This story, and this character - swoon!
Lucy is a plus size woman who wants to write songs for a living. She frequents Jasons bar with her friend. One night she needs help and Jason is there.
Jason is a kind, loving, caring, gentle man, that has loved Lucy for a long time - from a distance as her bartender. Lucy has always thought he was a jerk, who didnt give her the time of day. The sparks start to fly, and so does the sweetness. This is a must read, with some spice!

Loved it!

This was such a great book! It had romance and plot and I really enjoyed both.

I absolutely loved Jason. And I really loved Jason and Lucy together! The characters were so well developed that the story kept me hooked the entire time I was reading. I didn’t want to put it down.

I highly recommend checking this one out!

I was lucky enough to read the audio version of this book. It is the first book in The Club series and I believe it was April Berry's first published novel. I can tell the differences between this and her more recent work. This is definitely a story of the heart and the writing is fresh and heartfelt.
I enjoyed the narration by Eliza Summers. It surprised me in places and really conveyed the emotion of the moment. The writing and the line delivery also had me literally laughing out loud at times too.
There's a trigger warning for SA and I like that these were discussed at the start of the book. Those scenes and the scenes following it were done tactfully and with victims in mind. I felt that the SA and following police investigation were a big part of the story and showing Lucy's character. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the investigation after and how it affected her so we could truly see how strong she was and to really round out her character.
I loved that Jason is the strong silent type. He doesn't say much but what he does say is honest and to the point. And it's always the quiet ones that are the most attentive in bed ;)
I think my favourite character is Amy, though. She had so many one liners that had me bursting with laughter, and she's definitely the kind of friend I'd like to have in my corner if my boyfriend had caused me upset ;) I'm glad April Berry has also written Amy's story and I can't wait to read it!
A bit of a miscommunication trope but it is understandable considering the things that have happened in both characters lives. I wanted to bang their heads together at times but every April Berry book has a happy ending and I enjoyed how this one panned out. Love knowing they can go on enjoying each other's scents for the foreseeable future (tobacco and vanilla :-D ).
Served is a sweet with heat romance that tackles some dark themes but is ultimately about love and passion and being there for each other.

Great Read

I enjoyed this book. All the characters were relatable and realistic. The issue that April touched on it a real life issue that are hardly spoken about. So extra kudos to her for bringing awareness and showing that when one person stands up, the others who were alto afraid can gain courage to stand up as well.

The narrator for the audible of this story did a good job. I would’ve enjoyed hearing a man actually read Jason’s part, but she still did a great job of reading him and Lucy.

I loved how April showed Jason’s sensitivity and vulnerability and showed that it’s okay for men to be vulnerable. His love and support for Lucy was perfect. I loved that Lucy, with the help of her best friend, found the courage to step up and speak out about what happened to her. I loved how she was finally able to realize her flaws and work on fixing them and learning that in a relationship she couldn’t just keep taking without giving. I wish that Jason would’ve been the one to tell Lucy his history about his ex instead of her sister-in-law.

This is the first time I have read a book by April and I will be reading more.

Audiobook review:

Served is a contemporary romance featuring a smitten bartender and a girl who doesn’t realize that the guy for her has been right in front of her this entire time.

I liked the premise of this story. Lucy was an interesting character. I enjoyed her aspirations to be a songwriter and I am always up for a curvy protagonist who loves their body.

The narrator did a good job of voicing Lucy too. I felt her emotions coming through very strongly and her tone fit the story well.

But honestly, this story was just okay. I didn’t really like Jason as a love interest, and I felt a lot of their conflicts could have been avoided with better communication, which was frustrating to say the least. I also felt that Jason’s chapters were unnecessary and repetitive.

Overall I didn’t dislike this story but I didn’t love it either.

*I received a free copy of this audiobook by the author and this is my honest, voluntary review.*

Loved the story!!

I enjoyed the narrator as well!! I don't normally like when females narrate for men but Eliza did a great job!!

I highly recommend this book! The story is great and u get the feels for it! It feels like normal things taut actually happen IRL!!

Now down to the nitty-gritty of my review. I did not like Lucy one bit. She honestly was a tad whiny and was very selfish. I understand, you know things are new with someone but you're still going to stick to your normal ways before you got with another person I understand that. Again also i get sticking with your bestie and choosing her. But you honestly did him so dirty and you were so selfish. You were only thinking about yourself. Amy said it correctly to the fullest.

I really love that. Amy was a no bullshit kinda girl and told her best friend how it was.

Wish there was more explicit sex tho ahah!!

I cannot wait to listen to book to you and see how that one goes.

Thank you, both for an amazing story

Witty charming fluffy & loveable (plus some spicy spice)

Not the typical book I read. I was never the one for cliche romance but this, this was cute, heart retching & I was glad for the HEA.

The POV SWITCHING was good. I liked it was various chapters and beneath the chapter it told us whose POV we were in. Made life easier to keep track of the story.

I'm not overly fond of the same scene being repeated in two different POV typically, but since it wasn't over done I was happy with how this turned out.

The characters were so good they felt completely real & had depth. I swear, Jason reminded me of someone. I was able to connect with Amy, Jason & Lucy.

I'm not one for fluffy HEA, but sometimes you just need that. This was one of those times. Especially since I got a good healthy cry too. 😭😭😭😭

Quite Enjoyable

I found this book after following the author on the clock app lol

I had never read anything by her and the book sounding interesting. I am so glad I did.

She took serious subjects and wrote about them well. Didn’t write them in too graphic of detail but enough to make you feel like you were in the characters head for the journey.

Jason was a great character and I really liked him a lot. He was on the insecure side which is unusual for romance heroes. It was refreshing.

I did have a problem with some of the phrases but that was minor. Also I didn’t like how he never discussed his past with her, she had to hear it from someone else. Only so much time in a book I know but it just felt a little rushed overall.

I am going to check out some of the authors other books also though.

What in the HOT BARTENDER?!
I LOVED this book. Start to finish in less than a day. I couldn't put it down. When I had to go do the adult things, I switched over to having Alexa read it to me and kept going. I had to know what happened! There was so much about this book that I related to, some of which I will not disclose, but here are a few things I will share:
I loved the relationship between Amy and Lucy. It reminded me a lot of my relationship with my bestie. It was real and relatable.
I had my fave place to have a drink and catch a band, so the club brought back memories.
But Mr. Jason... Now, listen, I will forgive him for having my ex-husband's name but only because he is **FIRE**.
Moral of the story... go read this book.

I listened to the audible book and loved it. The narrator makes this story come to life. She shows so much emotion in her voice. An excellent job.
This is a spicy romance that was a fun read/listen. I started it before bed… that was a mistake as I ended up staying up past 5am!
I loved all these characters and love that it’s a series as I’m hoping I get to revisit Lucy & Jason.
This book has a tw for sexual assault and handles the subject well. It doesn’t get dismissed and touches on how important it is to report it.

My petty reason to DNF

The bartender gives you 2 free beers after your boyfriend asks why you're not dieting, and this was the response.

“My God he needs a doctor to pull the stick out of his ass, or a lady to ride his joystick. Or,” Amy said with a touch of sarcasm and pure curiosity, “maybe he enjoys a good stick in his ass?” We both laughed so hard the whole bar stopped and stared at us. “Shhhh, oh my God let’s not piss him off! I don’t want him to ruin my shot with the band!”

HEAVY EYEROLL*** childish writing.

Needed something different to read. Was tired of my usual genre. Found April on Tik Tok through BookTok and loved her personality and honesty. Loved her descriptions of her characters and the storyline. Decided to sit down and read it. GREAT STORY! The storyline was witty, lively and flowed beautifully. I loved having each chapter in either Lucy or Jason's perspective. Finished in about 4 hours with interruptions. Could not put it down! Cannot wait to read Stroked next!

This book is FANTASTIC! I could not put it down. I read it in 24 hours. The writer develops hwy characters so well it’s as if you are watching a movie while reading this. You get very invested in the characters from the first chapter. Highly recommend this book and I’m on to the next in the series since the writer graciously gives a sample at the end of the next book. 10/10 Great writing Great character development 10/10 great female empowerment 10/10 great love story Just great!
