Hi, I'm Ransom, and I like to tell stories. Sometimes I tell them with words, sometimes with pictures, often with both. I grew up on a farm on the Eastern shore of Maryland and also in a little house by the beach in Englewood, Florida where I got very tan and swam every day until I became half fish. I started writing stories when I was young, on an old typewriter that jammed and longhand on legal pads. When I was a little older I got a camera for Christmas and became obsessed with photography, and when I was a little older still my friends and I came into possession of a half-broken video camera and began to make our own movies, starring ourselves, using our bedrooms and backyards for sets. I have loved writing stories and taking photographs and making movies ever since, and have endeavored to do all three.

As other people have pointed out in their reviews, you shouldn’t read this book until after you’ve finished reading the main six books in the Miss Peregrine’s series as this one contains some spoilers for the main series.
This book is a guidebook for the Miss Peregrine’s world. It’s sort of similair in concept to Quidditch Through the Ages or The Shadowhunter's Codex. In case you haven’t read a guidebook before, they read like a textbook to the main series. There is often little comments that “characters” write in the margins. With this book, the guidebook provides information to peculiars who’ve just discovered that they are a part of the peculiar world. Miss Peregrine “gifted” this book to Jacob, so she added little notes to Jacob throughout the book.
This guidebook isn’t the best one that I’ve ever read, but it definitely isn’t the worst. Some sections felt like I was forcing myself to read it for school while other sections were so enjoyable that I wish they would’ve been longer. It somewhat feels like this book was written as a way for Ransom Riggs to have people see more of his antique photographs that he’s collected, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing since I know a lot of people fell in love with the Miss Peregrine’s series because of the antique photos.
My favorite part of the story was the short story about Gloria H. The story was depressing yet captivating and I would’ve loved it if there was a full novel dedicated to Gloria’s romance. The peculiar world is so vast and complex that I could easily imagine Ransom Riggs writing peculiar short story collections in the future that revolve around characters like Gloria.
Some of my other favorite parts (though they were brief) were the pages mentioning famous peculiars that include some famous people from the real world, as well as the section that describes why photographs are so important to peculiars. The photograph section helps explain why there were photographs included in the original series.
I’d only really recommend this book to people who love the original series. This book doesn’t provide too much new information and it doesn’t add on to the plot of the main series. It’s easily skippable, but hardcore peculiar fans will enjoy at least some parts of this book.
This book is for the true fan - as the title suggests this is a hand book to the Peculiar world and as such is a collection of articles and guides written to help guide the newly found Peculiar in to that world.
As such it does not read linearly but rather as a series of articles covering a wide range of topics. Some of they entertaining others really just fleshing out aspects hinted at in the books (and film) but all if interest and creatively presented.
This is a book that really needs to be read in tandem with the 6 books since many references (especially to certain people) do not really achieve their true impact otherwise. But like any guidebook this is a book you can come back to time and time again and still find something new.
3.25 ⭐️ rounded down. It’s a super fun companion novel to the larger Peculiar series. That being said, there is no real story here it is just more lore and peculiar world building so if you have not already read the Miss Peregrine’s series do NOT start here because there will be spoilers for the larger series, and you won’t have a connection to the characters and so the fun footnotes from Miss Peregrine will lose much of their charm. If you have already read the series and want a fun fast read to just dip a toe back in this world and get some more fun old timey photos in the process, this is FOR YOU.
i will read anything and everything written (SPECIFICALLY WRITTEN we do not talk about the movie) in this universe and i will love every single word i read.
muzej čuda gospođice peregrine : nezaobilazan vodič kroz opasnosti i divote svijeta čudnovatih s uputama za nove članove, ransom riggs; s engleskoga prevela ana josić zagreb: lumen izdavaštvo, 2023.; 220 str.: ilustr.
Thank you to Penguin Young Readers Group & Dutton Books for Young Readers l for the arc through netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I read the first three books in Miss Peregrine's a long time ago and was absolutely in love with them, but the second trilogy didn't feel the same for me. However, the add-on books (peculiar Tales and this book) that have come out in recent years have been pretty fun. I always love when a series releases a sort of guide to the world and some parts of it, so this was perfect for me.
While I did learn some new things in this book, like how they classify peculiars and the history of some of the peculiar events, this was mostly repeated information. I didn't really mind this because it was nice to review some of the history and what has happened. I really liked learning about some important peculiar people and places. It was also fun to read some of the little footnotes.
[TW: death of a friend mentioned, murder mentioned, kidnapping mentioned]
"Normals fear what they do not understand, and fear is a cancer that can quickly metastasize into hatred and violence (page 110)."
AUTHOR'S WRITING STYLE: 5 stars!
Yay: Ransom Riggs makes this history book a gem of entertainment. I am surprised! It is an easy read written in second person present.
It is a quick read too. Never I expected to devour the 240 pages in one half day.
This book is filled with black and white pictures that give support to its text. The pictures and texts elaborate what the Peculiardom is about.
I get to understand who these Peculiars, Hollows, Wights and Ymbrynes are and where they came from. This is their origin.
My favorite part is when Miss Peregrines explains how time loops work. This is an entertaining chapter. Loops are fun. These are one of the highlights of the Peculiar Children series.
I had a hard time reading about it before but, now that I have finished this book, I seem to fully understand its make-believe science.
Nay: It has everything I need. The writing style is smooth, light and I get to learn something new.
I cannot find a content to dislike about. There are:
1) Peculiar games 2) News clippings 3) Short stories 4) Quotables quotes 5) Entertainment scripts 6) Annotations of Miss Peregrine 7) Worldbuilding map (page 206) 8) Phrases written in ancient language
Ah yes! Maybe, there are a couple of pictures that are scary to look at. Though I ain't traumatized. This is the good news.
CHARACTERS: 5 stars!
Yay: This book gives more depth to many characters in the series. Either the character is a good one or a villain one, they get to have a spotlight.
There are backstories of underrated characters I love in the series. The animals and pets of Peculiardom are given page-time.
Nay: I don't know. There is nothing to dislike about the characters. Since the beginning, Ransom Riggs does not disappoint me in developing his characters even if he writes it in first person limited.
PLOT: 5 stars!
Yay: This is not a story. This book is about the history of Peculiardom that gives emphasis to its secrets and lifestyle, as authored by Miss Alma Peregrine herself.
It is a recommended and an ideal read once you have not started the series. Even if you have completed the series, this book is still must-read.
It reveals everything about the world, though it is not spoiling anything about the series.
This is for the fan of the Random Riggs books. You will not “get it” or understand otherwise. I enjoyed ending this world in this way. A how-to survive book for peculiar is a genius way to further the lore and to solidify it. I’m impressed.
This is your one stop guide to peculiars and peculiardom! It’s a beautiful book in black and white with red highlights. There is no substitute for having the real thing! I think this will help me because there has been some lapse in reading the books. I have one or two to go and there is quite a bit of lore. This kinda puts it all in one place. Something of note : Just be careful looking at anything involving Jacob and his grandfather ahead of reading all the books bc you might read a spoiler. Just stick to general terms, explanations and stuff.
Thank you so much Goodreads and Ransom Riggs for the hardcover copy of Miss Peregrine's Museum of Wonders!
I loved this book so much! It really dives deep into Peculiar history and you learn so much about this incredible world! The book was written so creatively it really feels like your reading a guide you could use, lol! Hey who knows, maybe I'll go find a loop and meet some peculiar folks!
I sincerely hope this isn't the end of the amazing world of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
this is a really cool book for everyone whos a big fan of the peculiar children series. it doesn't have a plot or story, but rather explains everything that has to do with the peculiar universe. I loved it, especially those old photos that are included in here, as in every other book from this series.
This is a very detailed and fascinating guide into the peculiar world of the “Miss Peregrine” series that I have devoured from page to page. There is a lot of lore found such as the type of peculiars we’ve seen in the series, how they lived and there are even some personal stories and interesting facts. Don’t forget about those always whimsical photos. It’s a superb companion for those who want to learn more of the series’ world. A (100%/Outstanding)
Oh for fucks sake read the original series before this. Well, yes, its technically "just" and guide for characters and word building but have we all read the same book? This was not made like other book guides, its written out of miss p's point if view and for godsaken fucks there was so much not mentioned in the books and even more left to imagination. The story about caul? Man i dropped dead, there even was a story around the story, this shit is great. Lots of pictures, drawings, maps and even texts by various people make this book so great and things like the "what loop should you choose" made it so great. Last but not least, i finished only yesterday but i resume to reading it again to find all points for fanfiction ect because theres so much.

Doesn't read like a story because its all broken up like a text book! I love the peculiar stories and all of the pictures. So happy to have a taste of the peculiar world again!
A nice companion book for fans of the series. Read this after you've finished it, as it contains spoilers. This is kind of a "handbook for the recently deceased", but for peculiars. Written by Alma Peregrine, and annotated by her to Jacob Portman. Here you'll find all about types of peculiars, loops, ymbrynes, hollows, wights, history and lore, tips for the newly contacted peculiar and more. Even the index is peculiar! As always in this series it's full of pictures. Recommended if you've finished the series and want more from this peculiar world.
This is a spinoff from the Miss Peregrine series purporting to be a guide to Peculiardom written by Miss Peregrine herself. Probably only of interest to fans of the series, it's an entertaining look at the world created by Riggs.
Sehr hübsch gestaltetes und bebildertes Buch. Geht nochmals auf die vergangen Bücher ein, wodurch es ein paar Spoiler enthält und sich somit als allerletztes Buch der Reihe am besten lesen lässt.
LOVE all things Ms. Peregrine and her peculiars. This did not disappoint. Mr. Riggs is very clever and the picture tie-ins are well done. This is a great companion to the series.
STOP now if you haven’t read any of the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children’s books.
This book was hard to rate/review because it is not a story, but more an encyclopedia of the characters and peculiars from Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series. It is a companion book to the series, not part of it. It is perfect for people who are very familiar with the series and want to check back in with the world. It is written in a similar style as the series with the old black and white photographs of people. It is a very creative and fun read if you have read the books. If not, you won’t understand the references and there will be spoilers.
Thank you to Penguin Teen for the advance reader copy! 🖤
I will forever love everything that has something to do with this series. that being said, I sadly really struggled with the style of writing in this one, simply because it reminded me of a textbook. nonetheless, the content was fun and a good summary of most that has happened in the books.
This book was made to show off more photos Ransom collected. I love the photos, however, the stories to go along with them just didn’t do it for me. This was a gigantic money grab.
Omgosh, this was so fun!! It’s kind of like a manual for peculiars. You don’t have to read the Miss Peregrine’s series to read this, but I do highly recommend the Miss Peregrine’s series.
I love a good guidebook as much as anyone who’s as obsessed with world building as I am, and this one was really fun! I’d only recommend for diehard fans of the Peculiar Children series, and probably wouldn’t have gone out of my way to read it myself if I hadn’t happened upon it at the library while grabbing the other books. But I loved reading the lore and information about the world simply because I love world building, and the structure of this one made it especially entertaining. The addition of Miss Peregrine’s comments and notes to Jacob made it tie in with the series in a fun way, so I’m glad I read it immediately after finishing the series.
There was all of the nitty gritty details I love about world building (and had wanted a bit more about in the actual series) in this book, so if you enjoyed the series at least a little bit and are a fan of world building, I’d encourage checking this out. It’s a really quick read and just fun all around, even if the original series wasn’t your absolute favorite.
If anything this book was fun! Brought me back into the wonderful and inspiring world of the peculiar through the intellectual and witty writtings of Mrs.P herself ( a favorite character of mine of any story )This book is more a collectors item to the series, a textbook (quite literally) of the functions of the peculiardom so it's a little hard to rate; I will say it was a joyful and lighthearted read, though it lacked any real story and organization. Also the formal qualities of the writting were perhaps a little scrambled. It felt like Rasom Riggs took all his notes, ideas, sketches and pictures that he used to write the original series and formated them in a formal and unique way to sell ($$$) Nevertheless, I enjoyed it because the world of Peculiar is always one I feel most included in, and that is what this book beyond anything achieved.
