The nineteenth “ Mountain Man” adventure has arrived!
After the harrowing encounter with what could only be considered a female serial killer, Uzziah and Immanuel said goodbye to the Mormons and the Salt Lake Valley and headed back toward their cabins on the eastern slopes. Realizing they had run out of coffee, Uzziah saw a trading post. Immanuel stayed outside to keep watch on their fine horses. A U.S. deputy marshal was in the trading post and arrested Uzziah for the long-range shooting death of none other than Dr. Erastus Timothy Wells, the serial-killer’s grandfather.
Uzziah ended up viewing the body of the good doctor and tried to explain to the marshal that the shot had, more than likely, been made from a Winchester, not a Hawken. He was locked up anyway, but Immanuel broke him out, and they headed for the hills, literally.
The marshal followed with a posse and a Shoshone tracker. To avoid the posse, the boys climbed Mt. Elbert, the highest peak in the Rockies. The tracker had explosives and caused an avalanche, which did not stop the mountain man partners.
Across Mt. Elbert, the boys rented hotel rooms in the town of Oro, where bandits attempted to rob them in the middle of the night.
Immanuel foiled the robbery and was arrested for the deaths of the robbers. Uzziah found help in the town and laid low.
The posse came across the divide and the US deputy marshal was arrested as a part of the mountain man gang.
Intrigue followed intrigue, until the town’s biggest mover and shaker rigged a trial, and the deputy marshal was taken to the hanging tree.
Will the two mountain man partners allow the hanging of the deputy marshal who dogged their trail, or will something besides kangaroo justice rule the day?
Follow the boys as they must choose between what is right and what is expedient.
