My name is Nilsa.

I am the last living Shadow.

Mate to six broken immortal pirates.

And now the world knows.

For centuries, the Eagle of Galmere has been butchering the other races to create the Mortal Cure, an elixir that gives her the illusion of immortality. The human queen’s obsession with living forever has crippled empires, maimed countless innocents, and enslaved hundreds more—including my men.

I'm the only one capable of ending her blood soaked reign, but what if the cost is far worse than we'd ever imagined?

This is a medium burn reverse harem novel intended for readers aged 18 years and over. Book 3 of 3 in the Deadwood Series.

What a great series. The RH done well because I felt like you could clearly distinguish between each of the males. They all had their distinct personalities and that’s so important when you have a story with so many mates!
Nilsa was such a badass FMC. She was strong but not over the top. She struggled at time and took some beatings but always bounced back. And probably the star of the show was Opal, her familiar 😂😂 If a cat could talk, I 100% believe they would sound like Opal.
So overall a great series, I recommend. I came for the RH, stayed for Val 😂

I love this series, it's fantasy RH story-telling done perfectly. All the little strings that were woven through the first two books blend together in this final book to wrap up the story of Nilsa and her mates beautifully. I'll be re-reading this one many times and probably seeing other small details I missed. Like with the first two books, there's a blend of action, drama, humor, and steam. This book brings on the group time too.

Each of the main characters grew throughout these books, I felt their devotion to each other, and then we get a great closure assured of their HEA. I hope Ms. Mistry considers a bonus epilogue in the future if she does a boxset for the series like she did with her Vice College series. There's also a note about a future series to come that I'm already excited for. Side note, if you love pirates like I love pirates, this series is a necessity.

Full series review:

So I didn’t take the time to write individual reviews because I read/listened to each book one after another immediately.

This series is amazing and I am so glad I picked it up! It was addictive from page one, and I loved Nilsa and her 6 mates! I would say if you liked Annette Marie’s “Guild Codex” and wanted Tori to get with all the guys rather than just one, this series gives the same vibes but is a RH!

Can’t wait to wait a few months to reread/relisten to this series again!

I'm a fast reader. If I start a book in the morning I always try to finish it before going to bed. However, that means that longer books, books that don't fit into a day, sometimes stay on the shelves for a little while. And I also have an issue finishing series, especially when it's a series I do like. As if I have trouble saying good-bye to the story and characters. But, yesterday I finished my book early and all of a sudden I thought that reading this book today would be perfect!

In every way this is a series finale. And in every way it was exactly the kind of series finale I had expected it to be. There was some work left to be done when it comes to the mate bonds and the relationships. We of course had a war to win. And along the way we've met a lot of different characters and people and I would have been severely disappointed if we wouldn't have seen all those characters and people back in this book.

What I really loved is that Mistry never sacrificed anything because it's a series finale. She doesn't all of a sudden speed things up, she doesn't sacrifice all those emotional moments and heart to hearts. She never rushes, she never just glosses over anything. If you loved the previous two books, you will also love this finale. If you've fallen for these characters and were longing for the last few answers you will get them in this book.

I also really liked how winning the war was not easy. Just like in the previous books the characters had a clear goal, but they also had to do some other things along the way to reach that goal. And even the final fight, the final confrontation, the one we were waiting for, was not easy. We could feel our heroine's pain. We could feel how she was fighting and pushing through and holding on. We knew that it also could have ended badly. Easily.

I will make sure to check out every other book Mistry has written!

This started as a 5 but then at about 50%, it started a fast decline. I was constantly frustrated with Val and their relationship. In my opinion, the last half of the final book should have been fully focused on the plot, with its tension finally breaking and coming to a conclusion. I was so sick of the push and pull between Val and FMC that I just started skipping through all of the intimate scenes. I was over it. I just wanted to know how the plot wrapped up so I could move on.

DNF. I just couldn't finish the book. I gave up 163 pages into the 400 page book. Everything just started to blend together and I just feel like for being the third book, many of the main characters still had little known about them and lacked any real personality/substance. I forgot or mixed up the lovers and it just kinda fell off and became repetitive and too predictable.

A great series

This series was a fun one to read. Great characters, great side characters, an excellent plot, a reasonable amount of spice (in my opinion), and very well written overall.

There's a strong FMC, unique MCs with their own traits and personalities, a sassy cat familiar, pirates, mages, fae, shifters, witches...! Everything you could want in a romantasy RH!

This is such a good series. It's been a while since I fell in love with a universe like I did this one. The ending was well-rounded and not slow. Nilsa is special in her own way, but she's not overtly special. She can fight but she takes a beating too. And I like it about her. Her mates are the same. I loveeeee how they act like pirates lol, and I ABSOLUTELY love Opal. There's also an special place in my heart for the Grinch, aka Val. He's soooo grumpy and funny. Amazing.

One thing that I wanted more was more romance and group scenes. Also, one pet peeve of mine is when things happen off the screen, like Val's and Nilsa's first date. Come on, I wanted to see them interacting. That's the only reason why I didn't give this 5 ⭐.

Anyways, I'm sad to move on from this universe. I hope I will come back one day.

Pure Entertainment!

When I started this series I was a little worried it wasn't going to be as good and entertaining as the blurb wanted me to believe, but I tell ya, Marie Mistry pulled it off. I'll even say each book got better and better and I was thoroughly entertained right down to the final chapter! Nothing captivates me more than a heroine that's very powerful and can kick some ass while taking names!

This is a strong recommendation book series.

I’m conflicted on this one!! It was overall a good ending for an amazing story, but it left me a little… wanting? I wished for more relationship development and sweet scenes. Some things felt rushed overall, like Val didn’t really warm up to Nilsa until the beginning of this one. Idk. A solid four ⭐️

An Epic Ending to an Epic Trilogy

| reverse harem | paranormal romance | fantasy romance | multiple POV | Pirates | shifters | fae | witches | unique magic systems| world building | humorous | familiar | quest | vampire |magic | sirens | SPICY | emotional | trilogy | assassin | HEA |

The final installment in The Deadwood Series, Pirate Witch, by Marie Mistry was an epic conclusion to an amazing trilogy.

One of my dearest friends recommended this series to me as a fellow lover of Reverse Harem Romance. I was drawn into this series from the very beginning because I have a deep-rooted love for stories featuring a female main character as an assassin. There is something so intriguing about the motives and missions of an assassin including their ideals, alignment, and cause.

The final book was very intense with several action-packed moments and more than a few that left you hanging on the precipice of complete and utter chaos. As one of my first paranormal romances featuring pirates, I have to say that a pirate's life is in fact for me.

I love the alignment and ideals of the crew and how each main male character was unique and provided a specific kind of partner that the main female character needed. This book, and the entire trilogy as a whole, had a brilliant infusion of humor that made each chapter something to savor.

I also feel that these books were so well written, the world-building was clear and concise, and the magic systems made total sense being based on the sun and the moon. There is no shortage of things to love and enjoy about this series.

If you are a fan of paranormal and/or fantasy romance that features a harem of scrumptious pirates you will love this series.

Happy Reading, Friends xx

what a ride. the last book? phenomenal. the found family arc really hit its stride—emotional, organic, and surprisingly tender. you know an author’s got a gift when every character feels like someone you might accidentally form an emotional attachment to at 3am. they’re not just written, they’re lived in. flawed, real, and unapologetically themselves.

that said, i still can’t quite get over the sudden pivot with danika. the whole manipulator-liar twist near the end of book one? yeah... didn’t sit right. maybe i skimmed too fast in my speedrun-to-the-finish energy, but something about that reveal felt offbeat. like the narrative was nudging me to feel a certain way before i'd been fully convinced.

as for the worldbuilding—eh. let’s just say it’s more vibes than maps. half the time i felt like i’d been dropped into a scene mid-chaos with zero context. disorienting? yes. stylistic? probably. but oddly enough, i wasn’t too mad about it. the world is rich, layered, and brimming with potential—it just doesn’t always explain itself, which can be equal parts thrilling and confusing.

did i skim a few filler chapters? absolutely. some sections felt like they were trying too hard to stretch the lore without giving us actual meat. and yet, there’s something undeniably enchanting about this universe. the magic system, the politics, the creatures—so much depth just waiting to be mined.

also, can we talk about the glaring missed opportunity for a gay pirate boyfriend? like... the subtext was right there. we were so close. *sigh*

Bloody amazing let me tell u. Before this I've read Vice College of Young Demons and while I enjoyed it (even read it twice) it was digestible and exciting but I didnt necessarily feel that it was a solid book u know? This however was incredible from start to finish. I am a big fan of books where its a full circle moment especially in fantasy and this delivered and more. Everything from the people, Nilsa's experiences, her fears all played apart in influencing and making the story. And Opal, my beloved Opal this damn cat was the star of the show really. Every time shes on screen I get really excited to see what witty remark is going to be lobbed at the pirates. She injected some humor and levity to situations I love her. All in all one of the best reads this year. Claps all around for Marie Mistry!

Stunning and all-consuming conclusion to a beautifully written trilogy.

This book had it all: it was action-packed, suspenseful, spicy, emotional and captivating.

Although I’m sad to say goodbye to this ragtag bunch, I’m quite happy and fulfilled with the conclusion of the series.

All loose ends were tied off in the most perfect way and left nothing to be questioned.
We are given a sense of what Nilsa and her men will be up to once the last page has turned and the book has finished, which breathes a new life into this series even once it’s over.

I can’t say enough how wonderful Mistry’s writing was throughout this series and I’m extremely appreciative of the creativity and attention to detail that went into imagining all the aspects of this world and its wide array of unique characters.
I especially fell in love with Nilsa Ofcourse and Val would be a close runner up to her, as his banter with the witch and slow progression to his vulnerability was one of my all-time favourite aspects of this entire series.

Overall, I believe the way Mistry created a such a comprehensive world (one that I would truly enjoy revisiting), it sets the stage for many spin-off and/or overlapping series in the future.
There is so much potential with all the characters we’ve met along the way and the different species / magical humans we’ve encountered and I am hopeful and eager to see what else will be in store.

~5 easy stars~

Sad to see it ending

I really enjoyed this series. It was a unique plot something you don’t find often in the reverse harem sub genre. Pirates and magic. Pirates and sea creatures sure but the way this whole world works is intricate and fascinating.

I was so surprised when this book came out super early. Originally slated for July of 2022 I swear it popped up in February or March of 2022 and here I am finishing it in April of 2022. I wish it was longer. I wish we had a little more tension between Val and Nilsa. I loved the series though. It had my heart pounding, my anger roaring, had sadness come up and laughter too. I really felt close to the crew of The Deadwood. I would love more in this world, or with Nilsa, or even more with this unique concept. Loved it. Sad to see it go. Nice to see how things turned out though.

At this point, I feel so deeply entrenched in this world that I don't want to leave. The rituals, the vivid descriptions of the settings, and the diverse cultures of the various creatures and species have completely enchanted me.

I adore Nilsa and her men, and of course, Titan and Opal hold a special place in my heart.

I’ve experienced the full spectrum of emotions—dread, euphoria, terror, self-doubt, and anticipation—right alongside the main characters. If only I could rewind time and savour each moment of the series more slowly, taking the time to absorb every intricate detail.

I will truly miss this world. Marie Mistry is definitely going to be added to my list of must-read authors.

This was very good.

It didn't feel too rushed, it did finish with a nice HEA. So she gets all her mates, wins the big battle etc.

Their collective romance is nice. RH romances are addictive when good and this was addictive. I like each of them for different reasons and the scenes together are my personal favourite.

Nilsa although does rely on being saved by her mates is not a damsel in distress. It doesn't feel like we're being told shes amazing she just is amazing and thats something I do want in a fantasy book that is so focused on one person defeating evil.

Also was very pleased Opal made it out unhurt I was quite worried for a moment.

Amazing series Loved It! It really the of the best PRN RH I've read in a while.
I read the author is thinking of writing more in the same world as this series but instead, in the fae lands, I personally wish she would write a side story for Cassie and the Salamanders.
Hey, why doesn't Reva have a Harem? Or did she get one and I just forget that part? And if she did get one why didn't they show up in the story at all?

Nilsa needs to free her pirates if she wants a chance to defeat the Queen once and for all, but what she tries to do has never been done before and consequences must be paid. Although this is the last book with Nilsa and her guys, I really hope there are more with the other characters that were introduced to us. I need to know how they process what has happened to them (I'm being vague for a reason. You have to read the book to find out what I'm talking about).

Nilsa, my beloved, you are a strong, crazy bad bitch, and I love you for it.
The pacing of these probably could have been better, but I still ate these up. I am once again obsessed with Marie Mistry's writing style. I love the way she brings worlds and characters to life. Everything about her books feels so fresh and unique in comparison to other books in this genre.
I love assassins, I love witches, and I love pirates so this could not have been more up my alley.

I was speechless for a number of reasons when I finished this book. I was sad that the series was over and upset that I had to say goodbye to these characters. But, I was also blown away by the amazing journey this group was put on.

I fell in love with these characters almost immediately when introduced to them in the first book and it was absolutely amazing to see them grow throughout the series. Nilsa and each member of her harem had a detailed character arc that gave each one of them a distinct personality and a different reason for fitting so seamlessly into this rag-tag bunch.

Marie flawlessly took us on a journey with twists and turns that nobody saw coming. Just when you think you know where she is going to take the story, she brings something completely different out of left field and it’s so refreshing. I like that her characters and stories are unpredictable. It makes for wild ride and a read that you won’t soon forget.

Like the first two books the world building and descriptions are beautifully written and make it easy to imagine the place that is being described. I found myself closing my eyes and picturing the beautiful Mirna beaches, the worn wood of Val’s ship and the gorgeous and unforgiving sea.

While Nilsa and her mates are put through the ringer, there is no shortage of laughter, love and steam. With each trial or tribulation they went through, they came out stronger. Eventually, after all the fight and all the heartache, Nilsa, Val, Kier, Klaus, Nos, Cas and Rysen get the ending that they all deserve. Even if they are a bunch of no good pirates.

These characters will forever be ingrained in my mind and this is definitely a series that I will reread when the mood strikes. Marie did an amazing job a creating a fantastical world full of pirates, sea monsters, witches and more.

1st read: I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been reading some really, poorly edited novels lately but gosh this series; I don’t think I saw any typos…….not that I look for them but yeah this was sooo clean. Thank you author and editor, that was one hell of a job well done.
Okay, back to the book/series
Spoilers ahead

Nilsa: Assassin, main FC. You know how the blurb says she’s such a badass but you get sooo disappointed when you actually read the book, yeah sooooo not the case here. This chic never sat back and waited to be saved, she was always on the frontline. She even had to get a mate through a mate challenge.
Rysen: Vampire, bloodlust crazed till the mate bond settled..he was the daddy of the group (not the BDSM version), me and Opal liked him.
Opal: cat familiar, shapeshifts into a tiger, pure drama queen
Klaus: siren, the empath, shapeshifter, prince. The one Nilsa got through the mate challenge.
Cas & Nos: Twins, Hydra leviathan shapeshifters, alphas with the latter being a Seer aka he’s blind. Cas is the goof of the group.
Kier: Fae, ice fae, prince, cursed (he was a bad boy). The quiet one.
Val: the annoying a-hole, kinky bond mage which was a surprise actually…….
Sooooooo many secondary xters but I think Elsie was my favorite with all her talk of “fornication” 😂 followed by Reva.
This was a really good RH series, good plot line and it flowed. Some angst in the first two books which might be off-putting for some people but I dredged through and I’m glad I did.
Thank you Ms. Marie Mistry

2nd read: Floccinaucinihilipilification, Consanguineous, Grandiloquent : these words were fun.
I just realized that vampires are not affected by the sun in this world

This book is so fantastic- everything I could want and so, so much more.

This whole series has just been stunning. The world is complex, developed, and fascinating to read about. The characters have depth, thought, and personalities. The plot turns and twists, never staying simple. And I haven't even started on the steamy scenes!! (which are the perfect mix of romantic and exciting)

I loved everything about this series, the characters fought for a romance that was meaningful and heart warming, they fought to win their battles and do what was right, and they fought to stay with each other. Nilsa, Ry, Kier, Val, Cas, Nos, Klaus, (and Elsie and Reva) will forever stay in my heart.

This series reminds you why you read paranormal romance and especially RH, among a sea of poorly written, unedited work, you find diamonds like these which fill you with joy, intrigue, fear, excitement, love, and so much more.

I want to make a special shout out to this author for creating the perfect ending. I normally hate reading the last books of characters I love, because I want them to have the perfect happily ever after, but also because I hate leaving them behind and feeling like they get dumped. That was not this book at all- you have created the most perfect final book which does justice to the quality of your writing.

Thank you for giving me so much joy in this series- it truly is a special gem of this genre.
