A King Maker

Rate this book
Everything in life is corruptible.

I am the Kingmaker. A King. The man operating in the background to build your fortress around your political aspirations, bury the scandal you never want to see the light of day, pay the boogeyman on your behalf to leave you alone and let you live. And I do it for a price. My client list is powerful and destructive, a balancing act to maintain privacy and silence. I am the fixer New York raves about in the media. The one who gets things no one wants to touch done. I don't operate in the gray, I operate in the black.

Yet someone in my company is poaching names from my client list and selling them to my competitor. To find them I need someone who blends in well to investigate my powerful team. I need someone who moves as a ghost. I need her.

Emilia Graham and I begin as enemies, yet somewhere along the way, in the luncheons and night meetings, the line between professional and personal begins to blur. Kings don't fall for peasants. Even if the peasant is hiding her crown. Mixing our worlds will only end in one way: destruction.

Because everything gold in this city? It's corruptible.

And everything corruptible? I own.

Bookworm extraordinaire finds love in writing dark urban fantasy and contemporary romance! Confused? I know, me too. I fall in love with so many books, and then I have characters appear, demanding to be written without a care for genre etiquette. You'll find a little bit of everything from me here in the wonderful book worlds I bring to life! (Also, I previously wrote under M. Ireland, so don't get confused!).

This was a romance read I enjoyed, with a touch of suspense and corporate espionage.

While I liked both characters, they didn’t captivate me. Their feelings weren’t strong and their emotions were adequately developed. Their epilogue was very short and abrupt.

Great read and a solid start for a great series!
This book had the right amount of romance and intrigue that makes you turn page after page.
The book is about a company of "Fixers", think of the series Scandalous (without the president of the US.) The company handles top secret info, "cleans" reputations and makes people "disappear"!
I would like to see the MC actually working a case, but we get the highlights of things!
The H is the best at his work, only being called in most difficult situations when sometimes moving in the gray part of the law is needed!
The h also works in the company and is great at her job! She is asked to help find a person leaking information.

Loved that the h wasn't a meek, dazzle girl lusting after the boss, that is so cliché in books.
The H has an alpha personality and is an ass several times, but also knows how to grovel and admit he was wrong.
Liked that they talked in a very mature way, that they were attracted to each other and decide to "have" fun.
There's no OW/OM drama, (this book has very low drama) there's reference to previous relations by both but easy resolved.

I'm really expecting books for the other characters and Irish mob guy also!

Nitpicking:
I'm a very visual person, so when a character is described like a viking warrior I think of a blond, blue eyes nordic hunk like Charlie Hunnan, but the H is actually a dark haired guy not blond like the cover seems to be.
The timeline is very confusing, at parts things happened 7 years ago and some 5 years ago.

I have NO CLUE why people are leaving bad stars and no reviews. This book was AMAZING. Like i was sucked in from the beginning. I love her writing and i can’t wait to see more from this series. It’s a well driven plot that flows well without being too predictable. Amazing job!!!

The ending was rushed. I think the story had the potential to at least be a duet.
Extra star for the heroine, loved her❤️😍😍

Emilia is living every day afraid of the spotlight.

'King' is the scary, alpha billionaire fixer.

What happens when Emilia, the company's inside fixer, is asked to help 'King', the owner's son discovering a leak in his team?

'King' is not used to have his orders and opinions questioned.

Emilia is used to working alone and does not want to deal with the owner's as*hole son.

Heads clash, sparks fly.

Fun times ahead.
