Bind You Mine

Rate this book
Anna landed in London with a suitcase, dual citizenship, and a pale strip of skin on her left ring finger. Oh, and a shiny new autism diagnosis that has both made sense of and shaken her entire world. It has been months now and she still doesn’t feel like this cold, rainy city is home, or like she knows what it means to be honest with those around her.

As seasons change, the specters of her past slowly fade and she allows herself to open up to a small, tight knit team of colleagues. Quite by accident, Anna finds herself becoming part of the sort of chosen family she thought only existed for other people — and Jo, the sharp, kind, climate conscious woman Anna begins to fall for is the central point of this new life.

A life where Anna has the unexpected opportunity to rewrite her story to be who she never thought she could, and love who she never let herself love.

Bind You Mine is a love story about starting again, finding your true self, and discovering that the ones who love you best are the ones who see you for who you really are.

This is a very conversational, and very 'slice of life' type of book. The style of writing seems quite 'stream of consciousness' in a lot of ways, but I fell into the groove of it quickly, and it made sense for the personality of our MC Anna. Hers is the only POV we get.

Anna is newly arrived in London after divorcing her ex-husband, after finding out about her Autism diagnosis. She's Bi, and slowly coming into her own, and truly asking herself who she is, and what she wants from life. She's understanding herself more and more, and feeling empowered by it. But still a little self-conscious at times.

It was wonderful to see her build up confidence and have such great, understanding and supportive friends in her work-mates, a commuter friend, and her flat-mate. She embarks on dating a more gruff and tough woman, who is passionate about the environment and plants. My one complaint was I did want a bit more from the relationship here. I wanted to know more about Jo, and her past - and see more of a connection between the women.

There was just something charming and relatable about the characters and the setting, that I appreciate a lot as someone also on the spectrum. It's not exactly 'exciting' in terms of plot, as I said it's very much slice of life, and internal monologues for Anna and her unique viewpoints. But I adored it, and would love to catch up with Anna and Jo, and the rest of their friend group sometime!

I read this contemporary queer book in 2022 and keep thinking back to it with affection.

The blurb starts like this: "Anna landed in London with a suitcase, dual citizenship, and a pale strip of skin on her left ring finger. Oh, and a shiny new autism diagnosis that has both made sense of and shaken her entire world." So that's a big change. We meet Anna as she's been in London for a while, but finally has to start (re)building a life and a nurturing community for herself. Along the way, there's also a lovely sapphic romance subplot.

It's one of those books where the main character and the people around them are just so *nice*, and you enjoy seeing them bond, open up to each other, and find ways to get what they need.

I loved this book. I’m autistic and It was great to see a story from an autistic persons point of view but in way more detail then other books have done. It kept me up reading way too late lol.

It’s always wonderful to read authentic stories of other autistic people, and this was no exception. I love getting a peek into someone else’s experiences and seeing the common threads that bind us all together despite our differences. In this book, Anna is figuring out how to live her life with less masking and more advocating for her needs and desires, and the author found so many small, nuanced ways to explore that.

I’m not sure I’d really qualify this as a romance, because the focus of the story is on Anna’s journey and the romance is sort of in the background. I liked what we saw of Jo, and in particular how Anna navigated expectations and boundaries in a new relationship, but the romance was a little underdeveloped and not entirely satisfying. The writing was also a bit awkward at times (contractions were avoided to a distracting degree, for instance).

Overall, though, I really enjoyed this book, and I’m glad I got to spend time with Anna and see this period in her life, which I related to in numerous ways.

Really good. There’s a romantic thread to the story but mostly it’s about making a home with found family in a new place, and moving from feeling lonely and awkward to comfortable.

One star docked for what feels like the author’s discomfort in writing smexy feelings, much less scenes. The closed door romance juxtaposes oddly with detailed scenes of period pains.

I did this thing I do where I impulse buy ebooks and then don't read them until I've forgotten all context, and as a result I thought this was a witch lesbian romance because of the title but really it's an autistic lesbian romance. Anyway, it is cute, has found family vibes, nice things happen, etc.

I don't know why, but the wrighting style was just not my style, some things didn't even make sense to me at all. Perhaps that is my own fault for not understanding proper english, since so far the book had pretty high ratings. I just couldn't get into it.
