Riley is a young soldier stationed with the Army in North Carolina. His unit’s mission is to destroy the wolves and their homes and drive the survivors out of this country entirely. When Riley is attacked and bitten by wolves while taking a mountain detour one night, he nearly dies, and is infected by the deadly lycanthrope virus, an agonizing condition that results in gruesome death. He doesn’t stand a chance unless some Alpha wolf intervenes with semen, blood, and venom.
When Alpha wolf Quinn comes across the beautiful, doomed young soldier one night at a bar, he knows his duty is to put him down as painlessly as possible. Not out of any real pity, though he does feel it, but because the human will only infect others. If the virus rages unchecked, it might cause mutations that will affect even the wolves. But before he can intervene and put the young soldier out of his misery, Riley experiences his first transformation into a lycanthrope. Now Quinn has to find him and stop him, while figuring out why this young human soldier has such a strong scent of an omega, not to mention the scent of Quinn’s own true mate. How is this even possible? One of the elders in his pack tells Quinn Riley exists to fulfill a prophecy that will save them all. Is that just superstition or could it be true?
Quinn is a powerful Alpha wolf, intimidating, strong and the most beautiful man Riley has ever seen. Riley’s terrified, but Quinn saved his life. Now he’s saying that Riley is some kind of human omega. Everything Riley feels says that Quinn won’t hurt him, but what if he’s wrong? Can love exist between two sworn enemies? Or is this relationship doomed to failure?
Blood Moon Rising is an MPREG omega story with an epic romance, adventurous conflict, endearing characters, and a guaranteed happy ending.
Riley was low IQ 90% of the time except for a weird streak of academic internal thoughts about genetics. He was the stereotypical "dumb blond". There was not enough fated mate romance. The sex was good. The background and world building was non existent. It also had holes -ex. security and satellite technology were missing. The writing had too much telling. POV changes did not follow or were missing section titles.
In this, there are many questions but few answers. It starts off with major info. dumping and monotonous inner monologue. It was a slog to get through, which made me consider DNF'ing once or twice.
Thankfully, I used my superior skimming ability.
First of all, don't expect much. This is Mpreg, and it's really hard to find top-quality books in this genre. I'm happy to find ones that are pretty good. Heck, I'm happy if they're mediocre at this point. So lower your standards, don't think too hard, and just be happy that it's better than most. 😁👍
Riley serves in the human military who've been ordered to eliminate shifters, deemed evil by crazy religious people. (Aren't they always? 🙄) Somehow a human omega, he gets bitten by a fierce black wolf. Now infected with a deadly lycanthrope virus, he'll die without help.
Quinn, an alpha shifter, arrives to save Riley, who turns out to be his mate and part of a foretold prophecy to save the wolf-shifters.
😭 Sadly, I'm one of those people who does think too hard. I'll share three of the things that bugged me:
𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊: The wolf shifters are "stronger, smarter, and faster than humans in every way." The humans don't stand a chance against them, and in a few years the shifters will win the war.
🤔 𝗠𝗘: So why does it say that the Blood Moon Prophecy will be fulfilled through Riley, ultimately saving the shifters? I thought the humans didn't stand a chance against them?? Why is the prophecy even needed???
𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊: The undeclared war happened because of the conservative Christians. They said that transforming yourself into a wolf was literally a "mark of the beast." The shifters are demons and monsters.
🤔 𝗠𝗘: That is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard! Seriously?! Maybe a few crackpots would think that, but the majority would know it has nothing to do with shifting into a wolf. Ugh, so dumb. 🙄
𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊: Riley is outside. Quinn thinks: This lycanthrope here tonight hadn't shifted yet, probably because the moon was hidden behind dense clouds. But the forecast for later tonight was for those clouds to clear, and when they did, he'd almost certainly transform.
🤔 𝗠𝗘: So a person has to actually see the moon, for it to have any affect on the virus. Wouldn't it then be possible to survive the virus, if the infected stayed inside their homes during the full moon? Or if they lived in a big city with lots of smog?? Or if they walked around with their eyes covered???
🐺━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━🐺 All that aside, the story does improve as it continues. ☑️ The lengthy expositions ended. ☑️ Riley stopped being such a stupid head. ☑️ There was more dialogue. ☑️ Some funny parts made me LOL. ☑️ The MCs' relationship and the sexy scenes were good. ☑️ Quinn was a great alpha. ☑️ The ending was my favorite part.
🤣 Some of the Funny Stuff:
Due to my need to read Mpreg from time-to-time, I will be attempting more books by this author.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Not incredibly original, and I’m not sure that I believe the world-building
I felt like I had read this book, or at least, these characters, before - especially for the first 20%, or so. It definitely had similarities to the Supremacy of Wolves, and to another werewolf series that I remember reading at about the same time, and I believe was also authored by Shannon West.
Were the wolves completely isolated from the humans? Were they not also citizens? I don’t think that they could have been employed on a military base without proof of citizenship, or legal working status. Could they not have documented what was happening and have gone to a group like the ACLU for assistance in fighting for their civil liberties? Or are they supposed to be more like the indigenous, autonomous, nations that the US has never had a particularly respectful history with?
This book was a page turner and I devoured it, staying up to the wee hours to finish it.
Poor Riley couldn’t catch a break - talk about being thrown into the deep end.
Quinn was totally badass but sometimes I wanted to throttle him. He didn’t take the time to think about how Riley was doing under the difficult circumstances. He wasn’t sympathetic and he didn’t try to understand why Riley ran.
Fantastic book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was hot and steamy.
*I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*
This was a rather disappointing story. While alpha/omega stories can be a good read at times, this one had all of the pitfalls that make them unpleasant stories. It quickly becomes such that the entire purpose of the omega is to have children, in fact if he couldn't he would be dead. As this becomes the omega's entire purpose everything else about him gets ignored. Says he isn't interested in children? Ignored, he will want them. Runs away from a fight that could have him killed? Called an idiot for leaving. Asks to be more equal in the partnership? Ignored and moved on to other things. It isn't great for the alpha either. Even though it is acknowledged that he is acting a bit like a caveman in his possessiveness it is acceptable given their dynamic. At the same time the alpha states he cannot show affection or favoritism to his mate in front of his pack and so seems distant in some ways. It altogether conspires to create a story where the relationship doesn't really develop well, feeling superficial and unloving with this major priority above all for breeding and children. A lackluster story.
Riley is minding his own business when life decides that his life is too boring. He's attacked and everything changes for him, and I mean everything. Love that Riley doesn't easily accept his fate, that we get to see his struggles to accept his new reality. But also had the strength to accept when his new reality finally sank in. Quinn was so patient and understanding with Riley, knowing what he was going through. And boy were they 🔥🔥 when they get together. But also very sweet. And then there's the intriguing omen that involves Riley and Quinn. The authors does a great job of hooking the reader in and keeping them hooked throughout the whole story. I can't wait to read the next book and find out more of this new and interesting world.
An alpha wolf & an infected human walk into a bar...
What a fantastic book! The conflict between humans and wolves, the viral infection, family angst, a confused human omega, and a prophecy, make this an intriguing story. Quinn is a true Alpha. But his fated mate isn't supposed to be human, is he? And how is Riley an omega? After fits and starts... and lots of sex... the first part of the Blood Moon Prophecy will be complete. I can't wait for the next book. You will love this one!
HAF and a military man, what more could you ask for? Plenty. Riley was on a mission to destroy the wolves but unbeknownst to him, his life would take a turn he could never imagine. Sitting at a bar he meets Quinn who will become the most important person to him. His True mate. Riley must learn allot of truths that are so out of his realm of possibility but with a patient alpha they create a beautiful life together. Once again, this author creates an amazing story.
This is not a book I would typically read, mainly because of the male male romance, but I needed to read a book with a moon on the cover. I enjoyed this story for what it was, however the characters felt underdeveloped and their relationships with each other had no natural development. A lot of it felt forced and I feel that could be improved if it was a series or longer stand alone. I think it was worth reading, but I wouldn’t read it again.
What l liked most about this book and what I hope will evolve into a new series is the prophet prediction of a new generation of wolves descending from the mating of Quinn and Riley. I recommend this book and all others penned by Shannon West. Great storyline that will keep you entertained throughout the book.
The setup at the beginning and middle of the human and wolf world was nicely done. The MCs were a good match and the story moved along nicely. It ended as though there was going to be a follow-up. I hope so, because that would be the only criticism is that the ending felt rushed and no conclusion regarding the villains (both human and wolf) or motives.
This was a decent read the main couple was alright and I liked the premise of the plotline . Although I would have liked a little backstory about what had triggered the human against the shifter's . And how did humans learn that shifter's even existed .
I really liked this book. It really reminded me of the Dark Hollow series. I think my biggest complaint would be that the relationship between Quinn and Riley felt a bit forced. There really wasn't much natural development. The overall story felt rushed. I wanted more interactions between the characters. I wanted more written about pack life and their struggles.
Overall, it was enjoyable, but I wish it as a bit longer and a more developed story.
The book grabbed my attention and even though the story is at a stopping point for these 2 characters; I would like to see the other characters to have their story in a series.
Conflict is waging on between wolves and human. He get caught in the middle and it a tug of war. The characters have there own conflict but maybe fate knows what she doing
This wolves in this world have been forced to live off the grid as humans have discover their existence. This is not a sweet mpreg book and instead the relationship between Riley and Quinn is pretty raw and intense. I enjoyed it.
I love this Author it’s been a while since I’ve read one of her books but I totally missed her this was a wonderful enjoyable book I love both main characters and I love the plot
Awesome book, hope she decides to continue the story. I'd like to see continuation of children growing up and then Ava's story of fulfilling the prophecy
