A fallen angel with a broken heart. The Horseman who rejected him. A love that can destroy them both.

Punished for choosing love over faith, the Archangel of Kindness emerged from a century of confinement enshrined in darkness, a shell of his former self. Rejected by the very Being for whom he sold his soul, the last threads of his sanity were stripped away. He became Lucifer, the King of Hell.

Famine’s choices have only ever caused suffering for those he loves. As the third Horseman of the Apocalypse, he is tasked with bringing plague and hunger to the Earth. But guilt nips at his heels as he blames himself for what Lucifer has become. He’s certain keeping his distance is the only way he can ensure Lucifer falls no further.

But together or apart, on the same side or not, it doesn’t matter. They are forever bound, forced to endure a never-ending loop of anguish. Betrayed and surrounded by new threats, they find themselves relying on each other while battling their own demons. But soon a choice must be made: allow their love to destroy them both or embrace it before the world ends.

Famine is the third book in the Four Horsemen series. This book is not a standalone and must be read in order.

Content Warnings: Religious themes, extreme violence, gore, and others.

Arachnophobia warning: There is also a dog-sized pet spider named Paul who just wants to be loved.

This is a paranormal, second chance, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers, MM romance filled with snark and morally questionable characters. It ends with a HFN and a mild plot cliffhanger.

Man, God really has lost his marbles. But Unholy Hell, this series keeps on delivering!

And while Lucifer is more and more losing his marbles too, going mad from being separated from his only love - which led the former Archangel to embrace his new persona as Lucifer, King of Hell - the world is going down in flames. One jaw-dropping revelation at a time.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!

And man, it really was a tragedy Famine and Lucifer have suffered through at Gods hands. I mourned their loss of and yearning for each other right alongside them. *sniff It was heartbreaking to watch but their love was so beautiful and impossibly deep.

“Break me, Famine.”
“I don’t want to break you,” Famine said, stretching across Lucifer’s body and wrapping his arm around the back of Lucifer’s head, cradling it in the crook of his elbow.
“You already have,” Lucifer replied brokenly. “Do it again.”

But you know what I find really impressive? It’s the best thing for me in this series for me. How the author managed to get me invested in each and every MC and their story no matter what they have done to other characters while we watched them doing it. And there was some depraved shit going on over these three books so far. I mean, Uriel def was a villain in Raziel’s story and Lucifer a villain in all of their stories and they all keep on antagonizing each other. But I rooted for them, loved them and had fun with their antics.

But hey, they are all Immortals here, so what’s a bit of spilling each other’s blood, right?

And I loved seeing Lucifer with his bunch of trusted Demons and Fallen Angels. They are entertaining af.

Can’t wait to dive into “Death” right after posting this review!!!

side note: each book follows a different, intriguing couple but they all have an overarching storyline so they have to be read in order.

I took a while reading book 1. I read book 2 in half of the time. And this one I tore through 😅

What can I say? The “universe” in this book takes a bit of time to get used to and understand, but once it all comes together and all starts making sense, you

Can’t.
Put.
It.
Down.

I agree with Kati - one of the things that I came to love about these books is that the characters don’t really change. Take Uriel from book 2 - he’s still no marshmallow, not even with War. But he’s… cool. Relatable even. And the same thing happened here with Lucifer: he’s not Samael, the Archangel of Kindness, the being he was before God banished and trapped him. He’s Lucifer, and the only person he truly cares about, and he truly loves, is Famine, the third of the Riders of the Apocalypse.

I won’t spoil what happens, because it would ruin the fun for you if you decide to give this series a go (bear in mind: this is not a standalone book, they definitely need to be read in order!). I just want to compliment the author for her take on God. Very cool, definitely unlike anything I’ve read before!

The only thing I skim/read were the sex scenes, they’re a bit too much for me (considering Lucifer is into pain), so it’s not quite a 5 star read, but I’m round it up because I loved the characters and the story arc development. And the possessiveness??? 🔥🔥🔥

Now excuse me, there’s a grand finale waiting for me with Death and the resurrected demon as main characters 🥰

Might be a controversial opinion, but the only character in this series so far that I've managed to empathise with and actually like is...Lucifer!!

That guy has suffered enough at the hands of God and Famine and I'm here for his vengeful rage to be honest. He deserves it!

Famine did annoy me because he's such a martyr but I did cry my eyes out when that thing happened... I don't want to spoil it 😂😂 I also don't understand why Famine's brothers are always so cruel to Lucifer when it's not him that caused the issues to begin with and all he wants is his love by his side! Ughh, so infuriating.

Again, I am actually loving Paul the labrador sized spider, and that is a sentence I genuinely never saw myself writing. If I saw a spider that big in reality, I would absolutely drop dead from fear or an asthma attack....

The ongoing plot is making more sense, some things that I was predicting from book one have occured and I feel quite pleased that I called it, especially because these three books so far have basically all been build up and it's a lot to remember. I'm hoping things aren't dragged out in book 4 because I'm ready for the Main Event TM to take place now.

I honestly cannot wait for God to get his comeuppance, what an actual twat!

I am weirdly enjoying this series so much 😂

“Make me bleed.”
“I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I hurt every second of the day because of you. You look at me, and I hurt. You leave me, and I hurt. You stay, and I hurt. It always hurts.”

I can’t say I'm surprised to say that this is, so far, my favorite book in the series. First, because since he’s Famine’s companion I knew there was going to be more Paul scenes than in the previous books. We even got to see how they met and it was so freaking cute, like everything Paul is involved in.
Second, even though none of them will ever admit it, they are becoming a big found family. A dysfunctional one, yes, but that just makes it more entertaining. One moment they are making threats to each other, or directly killing each other, and the next they are fighting side by side to a greater evil.

description

Another reason, and I’m aware at this point I sound like a broken record, is because I love morally gray characters. And what better representation of it than Lucifer himself. Since book one he was one of my favorites and couldn't wait until I could read his story with Famine. All the suffering they had to endure through the centuries to finally get to this point. I'm glad that Lucifer’s personality didn't change much in this installment. He was more focused whenever Famine was around but he didn't magically act like before falling Heaven. It showed how their love transcended all, even after all their mistakes and their changes.
On a side note, I couldn't finish this review without talking about the spiciness in this book. Let’s just say that Lucifer’s anatomy *cough*his tail*cough* made the sex scenes way hotter than I expected.

description

This series is getting better and better. I don’t want it to end in the next installment. Fingers crossed that there's going to be more series set in this world because I'm not done with it yet.

Ten stars for the first 75%, one star for the last 15%.

The first 75% felt like a separate book. It was angsty, emotional, hot as fuck, and I couldn’t put it down.

The backstory for Famine and Lucifer is incredible. God is as much of a POS as I imagine he’d be in real life. Famine and Lucifer are meant to be. There’s so much emotion here for them. Their forced separation and how Lucifer came to be who he is was heart breaking. Very well written. The sex scenes were amazing. Not only were they hot as fuck, but I also really felt like they furthered the bond between the two and truly showed us how in love and kind of crazy these two are.

The last 15% becomes super cheesy, terrible dialogue. And all of a sudden a couple from previous books are in a MMM threesome with a human? Did I understand that correctly? I was so fucking pissed when the “hints” dropped I couldn’t even focus on the last bit of the book. I know I am being dramatic, but I hate when MMM is dropped on me with an existing couple, without my consent. Like if it was another book revolving around them, at least I could avoid it. And youre telling me these super possessive characters all of a sudden welcome a third?! I was also really fucking annoyed a certain someone was brought back from the dead in the end. Their character seems terrible and I’ve been nothing but annoyed with them and was glad they were dead.

Yeah it’s a good plot, yeah Famine and Lucifer were fucking incredible (those sex scenes especially 🥵) but wtf happened at the last little bit of the book?!

July 13, 2024 – (DNF @ 12%) This isn’t working for me. There’s so much anger and hate. That’s not something I want right now. I’m marking it as “maybe” because I might come back to it someday. But considering I only read one book between War and starting this one – and I still felt lost/confused – I probably won’t pick it back up. It’s a shame since Famine and his vulnerability really interested me. I just don’t necessarily like him paired with Lucifer.

I was waiting for this book and I was super excited to read it and i’m happy to report that it ended up really working for me. I’ve been super invested in this series and i’m really enjoying following along the characters journey and it was the same for this book. This was just such a enjoyable installment in the series and I had a really good time reading it.

I really love the plot and the world building in this series. It’s always developed in so many details and super nicely crafted. And it was just so fascinating to read in this book. The plot of this book went in so many directions that I never saw coming and I enjoyed each and every one of them. I had such a good time following through these characters journey and seeing where the plot would take them.

I just adored the romance in this book. It was so well crafted. I just wanted to keep reading so I could see where their relationship would go. I always love a good second chance romance and the way this one was executed was just such a joy to read. The romance in this book just made me feel so many emotions, I went from pure joy to absolute torture where I was crying my eyes out more than once and I absolutely loved that. It kept the book very engaging to read. The romance in this book was so romantic and I loved every seconds of it.

Also the characters were just so nicely bullt. Lucifer and Famine were lovely characters with really fun to read about personality traits.

Also, special mention to Paul, a giant spider, who is by far my favourite character in the series. He’s just the best.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion

✨”There was no light without darkness. No sun without the moon. No good without evil. No Lucifer without Famine.”✨- Famine, Sienna Moreau

🌷Happy release day to my favourite romance of 2022 and a book I give infinity stars because five just isn’t enough.🌷

🌷Famine is the third book in the Four Horsemen series by Sienna Moreau. A paranormal romance series about the four horsemen of the apocalypse finding love. It is dark, it’s entertaining, and it contains some of my all time favourite characters. Looking at you War and Lucifer.

🌷This series features different couples each book but the overall plot continues on, so you have to read Conquest and War before this one. Plus you get the sweet hints of Lucifer and Famine (stars of this book) so you can ship them, and you WILL. They have already stole my heart and this book signified that.

🌷 Famine is considered the softest brother so I find it hilarious that his love interest is the literal devil, aka Lucifer himself. And he loves his so freaking much. I am a sucker for the dangerous/powerful character with a softer love interest and don’t get me wrong, Famine can kick as and is also one of the more powerful horsemen but he is sweeter too and Lucifer is so protective.

✨”Let me kill him,” Lucifer growled low.  Famine stroked his fingers over Lucifer’s abdomen. “We need to find out if he knows anything.”  “Then I can kill him?”  “No, Lucifer. Stay calm.” ✨

🌷Their Dynamic is everything and for those of you who love smut and spice. This book had plenty. In addition to the characters you can’t help but love- the world building is so well done and the plot was very heart pounding. I also loved Lucifer’s inner circle. The way they further protect Famine (when he really doesn’t need it) was gold.

🌷Overall a fantastic read and I cannot wait for Deaths story. I am also 90% sure I know who his LI is and if I’m right GAHHHH it’s going to be some story. 😻

Since reading Conquest and War I was wondering how the author would turn things around and have us cheer for Famine and Lucifer.

Truth be told I don't remember if we had gotten any info on Samael before but oh boy I can't really fault Lucifer. He was made to what he was because of what was done to him, desperation, loneliness, isolation and then have the love of his life, his soul, "reject" him. Famine really effed up there and not for the reasons he thought.

In all that happened and the insanity that Lucifer was fighting, or letting loose, depending on his mood, he was still capable of kindness even if he masked it. Did all his big talk about slicing G0d up or ripping his throat out etc only to get his a$$ handed to him get tiring after a bit? TOTALLY! Was I tired of reading about Paul's pedipalps? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY!!!

Was I traumatized with what happened to Atlas and the whole story just got deleted from my brain? YOU BET YOUR SWEET BEHIND it did!!! How could Sienna do this to me???

I was going about my way, reading this so I can tackle the ARC of Death, because I can't wait to see what it will be cooked up with him and Abaddon and I was dealt a heavy and dirty hand from Sienna about Atlas!!!

I'm devastated!!!

DNF. This one just didn't work for me at all. Which is a shame because I really enjoyed the Conquest and War.

My first issue is with the writing. From the start it just felt... off. It was so repetitive. In the first 50 pages how many times do we need to be reminded that Famine and Lucifer are so bad for each other, will eternally hurt each other but it's ok because of feels.

I mean, that's fine and all but it's just beaten over our heads again and again and again.

There is also no room for the dialogue to breathe. Every sentence is followed by a paragraph of exposition or internal monologuing about the same shit. And it's exhausting. It's also hard to read because each page is just one long wall of text. My eyes legitimately started to hurt. It's ok to break up the paragraphs.

My other complaint is the character work. We didn't see much of Famine in the first two books, but I feel like I had a certain image of him in my head, so what we got here just didn't quite jive, in my opinion. It's like the author simultaneously wanted him to be a badass warrior and a softboy, and neither quite hit the mark for me.

I skipped over the middle of the book, and at 70% there is a really well done scene with some top notch angst. If the writing in the rest of the book had been this good (and hadn't been so REPETITIVE that I just completely lost interest in the plot, characters, relationships), I wouldn't be DNFing it.

So, I noticed today that a 5th book is listed on Amazon now titled "Atlas" and scheduled for August 2024. The description says it's about Atlas, Conquest, and Raziel. FUUUUUUCCCCKKKKK YESSSSSSSS

While I don't know what the book will bring, I completely trust this author to deliver. I'm guessing it will fill in what a lot of us wanted to see. This is EXACTLY what this series needed. The lack of visibility into Atlas' character and their triangle was my #1 issue by far. The rest of the series is nearly perfect if that issue is fixed. I will certainly be updating my review again once Atlas releases.

Holy fuck, I can't wait. I'm SOOO fucking excited. This series is probably going to make it to my "favorites of all time" now.

THANK YOU, AUTHOR!

Original review:

This is a whole series review, with individual feedback by book as well. Overall rating, 3.5 rounded up because it's a really good series, especially for a debut author. It would be a 4.5 or maybe even 5 if not for a couple tolerable but really annoying issues/creative decisions.

It's not as dark as I thought it'd be (and I read a lot of dark stuff). Sure, there's violence and disregard for human life, but it's not highly detailed in most places. There are a few scenes that are a bit shocking throughout, though.

The world-building is pretty damn good, mostly consistent. I never lost immersion in the universe.

Every book is well-edited and constructed. It's clear the author spent a lot of effort making this a great series.

Conquest
This book is awesome, the best of the series, 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. I wish it was ~100 pages longer or so, but it's current length is acceptable. Surprising for such a new author.

Conquest and Raziel just work. I loved how loyal and faithful Conquest became with Raziel. Conquest always giving in to Raziel's curiosity and innocence is so fucking sweet.

The sex and intimacy between the two is so fucking hot. Sooooo hot. Conquest likes to dominate and own Raziel, and Raziel holds nothing back.

One thing I didn't like... (mild spoiler for an early scene) Not a huge issue, but annoying enough that it's a 4.5 instead of 5.

War
Yeah, so War and Uriel are my second favorite couple, and their story is well done. 4 stars. Uriel gets on my nerves a bit because he's so fucking stubborn and blind despite being thousands and thousands of years old, but the humor and teasing from War does a lot to offset his abrasiveness. Individually ranked, War is one of the best characters in the series.

The bit about their past together, especially when they talk about (moderate spoiler/reveal of late book plot element) was a tad bit confusing. It didn't come out of nowhere... but it didn't have as much build up to it as I'd expect when they were having that final conversation.

Famine
This is the hardest one to rate. I'm going with 3 stars, maybe a 3.5 rounded down? I like Famine, he's the most morally stable and least reprehensible Horseman. Lucifer though? Eh, I totally get why he is the way he is. He got royally fucked over. But it was just so hard to relate to him in any way beyond him being in love. He's vicious at times, and the up/down extreme rollercoaster is a bit tiring. But it wasn't intolerable.

The biggest issue I had: (mild spoiler about Lucifer's past involvment with the Horsemen and Heaven)

I really don't understand Famine's powers much, either. Like I get he's powerful, but it just seems like such a mixed bag? It wasn't all that distracting, but I never quite knew what to expect from him, unlike Conquest, War, and Death.

This book was saved a bit by more detailed involvement of the overarching God plot. There's one major issue I have with the series as a whole, and it starts in this book, but it primarily comes out in Death's book, so I'll save those comments for that section of this review...

Death
This was my least favorite by far. I'm not sorry I read it because it does conclude the series very nicely. But damn there's some infuriating shit in it. I really wish the author went a different direction.

First off, I generally hate most of Abaddon's personality. He bitches and moans so fucking much. It's so fucking exhausting. I started skimming Death/Abaddon only scenes around 30%. I didn't miss much. It reminded me of Uriel bitching to War, but like way more annoying and frequent, plus War wasn't there for comic relief. It was just too much.

Secondly, the sadism/masochism/blood stuff did absolutely nothing for me. The other 3 books weren't like that, so it was a very abrupt change with this book. Don't get me wrong, to each their own kinks, but that's not my kink. I don't like when one particular book in a series deviates from the general content found in the other books. It's like if an M/M series has an M/F book in the middle or end of it... uhhh I'm reading for M/M, but now I have to skim this M/F if I want to continue with the series that has an overarching plot line? Feels bad, man. I almost didn't read this final book because of it. But instead, I just literally skimmed all of the Abaddon/Death sex scenes. It wasn't hot to me at all, and I didn't miss anything.

Now! We finally get to my biggest complaint by far about this series. It's the thing I mentioned started in Famine's book... (moderate to big spoiler about Conquest/Raziel and their involvement of a third)

I generally liked Death's character, and I love how different he felt from his brothers' characters. It was just a weird pairing with Abaddon, plus a weird third-person perspective on the Conquest/Raziel/Atlas situation.

Given these issues, I have to rate Death at 2 stars. I'm going to bump it up to 2.5 for the well-done epilogue, because it really is that good. (Yet again surprised this is a debut series.) But still rounded down ultimately. I can't completely forgive the Conquest/Raziel/Atlas issue, nor the switch up to sadism/masochism at the end of the series.

---

I really loved Gaia throughout the series, and I thought the overall ending was very well-executed. It's not overbearing but also not a "wham, bam, done in 5 pages or less" conclusion.

But, it's still a great series, and I'm really glad I read it. I haven't read a series this good in quite a while. I'm really hoping the author gives us a follow-up to it with Conquest, Raziel, and Atlas.

I'll read any MM/MM+ this author writes in the future, without question. They're that good.

The way Lucifer loves Famine (& vise versa) is what dreams are made of. The dreamiest of dreams. Their story was everything I wanted for them & so much more.

“I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I hurt every second of the day because of you. You look at me, and I hurt. You leave me, and I hurt. You stay, and I hurt. It always hurts.”

My heart shriveled for the star crossed couple at several points in the previous two books, especially when it came to Lucifer & his broken heart+mind. So being this was in their POV I knew going in it would be painful & beautiful & heart wrenching. Still. I was not prepared.

The amount of tears I shed was alarming. I. Couldn’t. STOP. I smiled a lot too.

THE BACK STORY.
Oh my. God is such a prick. I can’t wait to see what book 4 has in store for God after everything he’s done & all the BS he’s rained down on the horsemen & poor Luci aka Samael.

Paul. Would die for Paul.
We finally get his back story too, the moment Famine found him alongside Lucifer when he was just the size of a normal spider, & how he refused to leave & then we’ll became… well something unusual. I love his love for Lucifer & how Lucifer always manage to think of Paul even through his brain fog & Famine addled mind.

The antics of Paul & Justice, their interactions & those with miscellaneous hellhounds & the other horsemen were so enjoyable. Paul brings a lightheartedness that was soooo needed. I am still not a spider person, but a golden retriever sized arachnid that purs & plays like a cat is apparently my kryptonite. Who knew?

Seriously. #happyfamilygoals
Paul seemed to be taking the “playing” to heart as well, jumping over tentacles and biting into one every few jumps. Justice bit a tentacle off and threw it to the ground, using her hooves to trample it. Famine’s Power circled them, keeping them safe as they worked in tandem to tear a Guardian apart.
Ah, they warmed Lucifer’s dead heart.

I won’t say anything too specific because #nospoilers but Connie & Raziel…. &…. Well #iykyk & I did NOT see that coming & I need more.

Okay end of rambling. Once I make sense of my thoughts I’ll come back and organize all of this & give my real adult review 😅 FRTC

Samael and Famine have loved each other for centuries.. and that love, the soul bond, was torn apart by god himself.

With their loyalty in question. Both were punished and Sameal became Lucifer.

I’m not usually one for established relationships. I like the emotional ride where two people form a love connection through the story. However… Sienna did a great job of giving the reader, the same anguish of a love broken. Where something pure and good was destroyed, all because of … a jealous god.

There’s enough angst and heartache to keep things interesting and some down right dirty and kinky sex scenes to get you all hot under the collar!

There are a couple of surprises that are not good…. No spoilers… the battle was won but not the war… it’s Death’s turn next….. with no clue as to who he will connect with to form the 8 that will hopefully defeat an ever increasing power needy god.

My suspicion proved wrong… so I can only wonder and speculate until hopefully the end of this year.. and not early next….

This series twist the idea of a benevolent god around. To a god that needs obedience, blind loyalty and devotion. Seeing the love that his Angels have for more than him, as a betrayal.

It’s challenging in concept, but well executed. Will god win… I’m obviously routing for the four horsemen… and I’m desperate to know who Death will allow himself to love.

This is a series I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading so far and I’m excited for the Last instalment.

As this series has gone on it has gotten better and better.

I literally wanted to cry for Famine and Lucifer, Diablo, Samael, Lord and Master, or whatever you want to call him.
Seeing the back story, why they were drawn together, defending eachother, even against the other horsemen...... I honestly had no idea how they could ever get together..... and then with Gods abuse of Deaths power... I literally felt heartbroken too. I despise spiders to he honest.... but Lucifer and Famines love of Paul and poor Pauls heartbreak, was hard to read...honestly this story made me lose a few tears.

We have some surprising characters arriving and rearriving..... and a comment made about the 4 corners and 8 of them....I have 2 different suspicions as to who Death will with be in the next book.... but I also think it wont be either of them and Sienna threw that at me to be a tease. I have sooo much more I want to say about this book, but Im afraid to give away anything.

You dont want to read this book. You NEED to read this story.

This series is fantastic and must be read in order. The events here follow the previous stories and it'd be too confusing to jump into the middle. Famine and Lucifer have a history and connection and they were forced to separate. I don't think it's quite a second chance romance since it was an outside force that caused them to part. We get a bit of back and forth in time with the beginnings of the chapters usually depicting their time before and what eventually happens and then returning back into the present. Overall, I think the first half or so was more focused on Famine and Lucifer's reunion than it was on plot movement. Most of that felt like it happened in the last few chapters. I enjoyed learning about these two and watching them fight to be with each other but I will say that I think War still may be my favorite in the series so far. Paul was an expected favorite! I also hope we get to see some of Raphael's healing as well and I wouldn't be mad if Hades and Azael get some page time.

Next up is Death, and if it's the pairing I think it'll be, this one kind of sets it up nicely. There was a slight twist at the end that I didn't see coming and I can't wait to see how everything will shake out!

***Slight spoiler*** I thought Conquest, Raziel, and Atlas' relationship was interesting though we never really got to know what was going on with those three. It would've been interesting to see how Atlas ending up coming to mean so much to them but I'm not sure how it could've been incorporated into the story**

Man, I just love these books. The twisted, heartbreaking love between Famine and Lucifer was devastating and beautiful. The way Lucifer was so devoted, so obsessed, literally insane over Famine was - dare I say it - sweet? Seems like a crazy thing to think when he is describing how he wants to cut his skin off and carry it around. I'm not much for serial killer love devotion but this one hit different, maybe because it was Lucifer, but probably because we experienced the extensive back story between him and Famine and it was impossible not to root for them, not to understand the level of trauma and devastation both characters were put through.

I am also so curious about Raziel, Conquest, and Atlas. It looks like Atlas is coming in August 2024 so I'm already counting down. Raphael breaks my heart as well, really hope we get his story at some point.

Also, still absolutely adore Paul.

This book felt like it lasted eternity and then some. Famine was interesting character but Lucifer was all over place and their chasing game was too long. Half of it didn't make sense and the book didn't do anything to catch attention. But damn, bros did nothing worth suffering they were given, what a dick move.
Paul is sweetheart and deserves all protection and love in the world.
Also not even a hint or warning, just Conquest and Raziel being threesome with a guy who was there for two scenes? Wtf?
Also they might as well make "going to see Amii" phrase for banging because they have christened his store in every book.

This series is so addictive, I’m attached to all the characters and I never get tired of reading their stories!
Unlike the previous couples, Fam and Lucy were already in love since the beginning of their relationship. They know that they will love each other till the end despite everything, despite the pain, the feeling of betrayal and the intense sorrow and the knowledge that they couldn’t be together anymore.
That means that among our couples, their relationship is my favorite. I still love all the couples but their love is so beautiful, it really affected me more than the others in my opinion. Even after all this suffering for thousands of years, they are still faithful to each other and they love each other so much.
They share a deep connection in their souls and their powers like the other pairs.

In this third book, we finally learn why God punished the Generals of Purgatory and the Archangel Samael... So, God discover one day that Sam and Fam are in love, he’s apparently afraid that their combined power will threaten him in the future. And just like that he punishes all of them (Samael, Famine, Conquest, War, Death) even though no one ever said that Samael and Famine couldn’t be together. Honestly, I was so confused by God’s actions. It didn’t make any sense; he doesn’t give any normal justification (which makes sense because he’s God); he’s not even trying to hide that his hunger for power is the only reason for this. Our poor Immortals suffered too much because of his madness.
And what he did to Famine (forcing his own brother to kill him) is pure evil.

Atlas and Michael’s fates were heartbreaking. Atlas is just amazing and wonderful, I hope he resurrect as an angel or at least as an immortal so he can be with Raz and Con, there’s no way he can die like that, he’s such an incredible character.
Honestly, I didn’t expect his relationship with Raziel and Conquest to take this turn! I knew the three of them were getting close and I literally thought one moment “Are you two planning to adopt Atlas?” but I really didn’t see their relationship coming. I hoped we could have a POV for Atlas, Raziel and Conquest in this book to learn more details about how it happened. Especially between Atlas and Conquest, because the later despised humans. But I guess that Atlas’ strong-willed and resilient personality it appealed Conquest (which is totally understandable).

I was sad for Raphael, I thought that Michael could be saved but I hope that Raphael can find a way to be happy.

I’ll get around to writing a review of the others in a bit. It’s 2AM and my brain is killing me with stress, so you’ll forgive me for being crude, here.

But just a heads up: I DNF-ed this. Kind of.

Quality rating: 3/5. It’s still pretty good, imo. But it’s just… the characters aren’t really grabbing my attention as much, you know?

Enjoyment rating: 2/5. I DNF-ed it because… well, I’ll explain in a bit.

The book is nice. Quality Angst because of Lucifer and Famine? Sign me up. I was down. I was so totally down for all of it. Even the whole fucked up morals kind of thing everyone had going on was fine with me. I’ve certainly read much worse, lol.

But.

(Major story spoilers)

And I absolutely could not STAND him. At all. I already found really irritating, especially since they kind of just let him keep shitting on for it. Like, seriously? Famine, the angst is not an excuse for letting this slide, lmao

Anyways, also just felt really pushed. I have no idea if I was supposed to end up liking him, but instead of “cool evil ally” he was just “unbearable piece of shit”, so much so that I just couldn’t keep reading more of him. An attempt was made to invoke the “lovable psychopath” or “token evil teammate” trope and it failed hard.

Legitimately, he just aggravated me, and I really don’t want to deal with characters I just absolutely loathe. So I just stopped reading when it got too much.

I say that I “kind of” DNF-ed because what I did was super skim through the rest of the book just to get a feel for what happened so I wouldn’t get blindsided by anything when the fourth book comes out. But if I have to deal with in that book too I might just skip it.

So yeah. Didn’t like this one much. The first book feels like the cleanest one, so far (the second one makes me :/ because even up until this book Uriel just kind of gets out of what he did to Raziel and Conquest with no consequences at all besides Conquest holding a totally reasonable grudge), and the ones after it have been… eh. Not bad, necessarily - the sex scenes are hot, at the bare minimum - but the characters just… don’t feel like they’re working out as well? Idk.

This book is a work of art. One of my new favorites, for sure. It's an epic love story heartbreaking drama that can surely give Romeo and Juliet a run for its money. The arc of the book is simply incredible.

You start falling in love with this story in the previous two books, but here it just catches you and never lets you go. At first, it's just so heartbreaking and unfair that it's almost difficult to read. Almost, because the way it's written is, as I said, a work of art. Lucifer's voice, his insanity, his pain, come across so clearly in the pages, in his voice. His point of view is as filled with pain, loneliness and bone-deep sorrow as it is fun and entertaining in his blood-thirstiness and the way he has found to cope as the Devil.

Famine's regret, guilt and fear also come across more than clearly in his narration, as does his love for both Samael and Lucifer.

The plot of the book is also very very very well developed, as it follows the events from the previous books and builds up to the last.

I couldn't recommend this book more. Really heartbreaking and heartwarming and then heartbreaking again, it literally made me cry at the end.

When they do get their well-deserved, heavily fought for, and millennia-late HEA (literally accomplished with tears, blood and after thousands of years of loneliness) you just want them to be happy forever and keep them safe.

TW for sorrow, betrayal from a father figure, jealousy, going insane, being imprisoned alone for a hundred years, gore, heartbreak, rejection from a loved one, grief, death of a loved one, torture, gore.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Famine is the third installment of Sienna Moreau’s The Four Horsemen series. It picks up the action very close on the heels of the end of book two (War) and there is no way to read this as a standalone and get the bigger picture. As I write this, I have actually also finished book four and would encourage fans of the series or new readers to read them in order back to back. I’ll admit, I didn’t give myself a refresher before jumping into this third book, so I had to go back and search names and skim earlier books to get a bead on some of the action. That said, there’s such a deliciously angsty (and surprisingly kinky?) romance that unfolds/rekindles between Famine and Lucifer in this story, I honestly could not put it down because I was so desperate to know what was going to happen between them.

The most emotional of the books so far, oh the pining that we only get a hint of in the first book which continues in the second and comes in to fruition in this book.

It had me ugly crying and I'm glad no one saw me.

Lucifer and Famine were separated for thousands of years, punished for something out of their control.
But as things changes around them, as each horseman starts to find their second half, the two find themselves unable to keep apart any longer.
And really, when you have a child together, aka Paul, you have to remain civil, even if your whole family wants to kill your bad seed dream guy.

I'm liking the direction the books take, the ongoing mental downfall of god, something seems strange at first then it goes off the rails. I'm excited for the next book and I feel we need several short stories to fit in all that has happened behind the scenes.

This is the fourth book in this series and must be read in order to understand the arc storyline.
Lucifer and Femine story just broke me, their pain and anguish is felt deeply. I would never have thought that my heart would break for Lucifer but it deeply ached for him. This quote perfectly describes Famine and Lucifer's journey to their HEA: " Their love has survived so much pain, and loss, and suffering. It lives on and continues to grow, no matter how broken and bruised it gets. It is the greatest gift of all, for what is life without love?"
I'm was happy when they finally reunited, healing their souls and hearts. But it was not an easy fight, there were many sacrifices and losses. And unfortunately it is not over. There's still a fourth book, Death, which I'm sure will have more heartaches but also a much deserved HEA for these group of funny, sarcastic, protective, loveable guys.

Very good but heartbreaking, too.

This book had me in tears. Lucifer is definitely a morally corrupt character, but seeing his story just made me feel so bad for him and Famine. Which led to the previously mentioned tears. I liked seeing their story in flashbacks as well as the current timeline. Famine and Lucifer's story is definitely one for the ages. They've been through so much to get where they are. I'm almost scared to read the next book because of what may happen to them, but I'm reading the next book so I know what happens. If you like darker books, this series is a great one but definitely read these as the series they are.

So, if you’ve been with me for the journey that was reading this book you’ll know that I felt a bit traumatized by it. I need the author to know something very important: blood does not work as lubricant🥹🫶🏻 like it will coagulate so fast.
This book was hard to read but I did finish it. I was unfortunately disgusted during most of the smut and I’m sorry
I dunno if it had warnings but I did not read them therefore I was very surprised

Lucifer and Famine had an interesting story but I dislike the mutual pining without real information about the why so while I do enjoy the writing as a whole and the series this just didn’t do it for me personally
Still a good read over and all

Wow. Just wow. This is book 3 in the series and you need to read the first 2 books as it is a continuing arc but with different couples. This book features Famine and Samael/Lucifer. You get to read their backstory which shows the love they have for each other and how they were forced apart. As always this series provides lots of action, steamy encounters and love that transcends time. Love these books and recommend to everyone. Cannot wait for the next book.

I received a copy of this book for my review.

This is a stunning entry in a great series. I expected a story about Famine to be dark and it was, but the depth of emotion we get to see among Famine, Lucifer, Paul (a surprise favorite for me) and other characters kept me reading hoping for those rays of hope and light. There is still plenty of mystery left for the final book in the series, and I'll be right there as soon as it's released to see how all the characters' stories end.

Famine and Lucifer

The only reason I gave this a 4 is because it look me forever to get through this book. With that said the eternal devotion these two characters has is probably one of the strongest I think I have ever read. Their passion and love for each other is so special. I did get teary during this book so be prepared.

It was fun. The first 20% were a bite repetitive than it was pretty cool apart from the last 15% of fluffy sugary sweet shit the author decided to pull.
This book is full of love-hate, making the other person hurt just to feel something which was pretty enjoyable but the writing itself felt a bit off, not like in the first two books.

This series just keeps getting better with each new book. I found myself sucked into the story completely from the start. I just couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next book.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion
