I checked the place where my inner nurturer was supposed to be, and a dusty tumbleweed rolled past.
“You’re everything. Everything I never knew I needed. Everything I ever wanted. Everything I never thought I deserved. Absolutely everything.” I dropped a kiss on his mouth.
“How long should we wait before we acknowledge that he’s running?” I asked.
He sighed. “Right about now, I guess. You bust in the door, and I’ll cover you.”
“Bust in the….” I looked at him with my mouth open. “Have you lost your mind? Do I look like SWAT to you?”
“It’s a shitty door.”
“Then you can break a foot kicking it in.”
“I think I could face anything as long as I have you. You make me strong.”
“You were already strong.”
“Maybe…..But with you I’m indestructible”
“You’re everything. Everything I never knew I needed. Everything I ever wanted. Everything I never thought I deserved. Absolutely everything.”
“You’re the reason I have to use Crest Cavity Prevention now….All of this sweetness is going right to my damn molars.”
I woke up with a tongue in my ass and a hand on my dick, and in my humble opinion, that’s the very best way to wake up.
….He pressed a kiss at the base of my neck that made me shiver. …. I opened my eyes only to find him already looking at me, something content and fond in his eyes. I swore if I ever found someone who ever looked at me that way, I’d never let him go. Because I wasn’t one to leave things up to chance, my shipment of crazy glue was on the way.
Generally, I didn’t have to chase anyone who could buy an early-bird special at Denny’s. My suspects also didn’t rabbit in heels…… I was also using the word chase rather loosely. This was more of an aggressive walk/jog.
“I think that seeing ghosts is a part of you. It might not be the part you like the most or even one you particularly enjoy. But it’s always been yours. And we both know you were given that gift for a reason.”
he was clearly trying not to jump to conclusions. I, however, was ready to BASE jump from Holy Fuck We’re onto Something mountain.
“No fat jokes here, McKenna. Not in my house of worship.” I gestured around to encompass the place where sugar and butter ran together freely like antelope on the plains. “This shit is sacred.”
“Is that your version of what went down? Because I could’ve sworn you twisted it (your ankle) running to the kitchen when she said the pie was ready. You nearly mowed us all down.”
I leaned over and kissed the top of his head because he was a very dear friend, and I was starting to understand just how rare and important those were… When I pulled back, he was blushing like a tomato as he tried to look unaffected. … I laughed because a flustered Dakota was all too adorable to miss, and he stalked off in a huff.
I’d spent the past week making amends for things I hadn’t even done. I had an easier time explaining to those I could tell the whole, unvarnished truth….. Then there were the others, people to whom I couldn’t explain the truth.
I wasn’t expecting him to tackle me. “You’re a guru,” I said breathlessly as I won our tussle with little effort. I shoved him off me where he landed on the grass with an oof. “Aren’t you supposed to be mild-mannered?”
“I was until I met you,” he managed over his own huffed breaths.
