The Ghost Army: The Top Secret WWII Unit That Fooled the Nazis

Rate this book
During the war, as the Allies pushed through Europe at the end of World War II, the Allies knew to win this war; they need a weapon, not just any weapon but a weapon to make the Germans vulnerable.
This then prompted the United States to activate the Ghost Army on January 20, 1944. The Ghost army was the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops and was the first mobile, multimedia, tactical deception unit in US Army history.
Men recruited into the Ghost army were members of the 603rd Engineer Camouflage Battalion, from the program known as the Industrial Camouflage Program, which has been in place since 1944. The Ghost army was from existing units making up of; 379 soldiers from the 603rd Engineer Camouflage Battalion; 296 from the 244th Signal Operations Company, 168 from the 293rd Engineer Combat Battalion and 145 men from the 3132nd Signal Service Company. The unit also consisted of group of artists, engineers, professional soldiers, and draftees, including famed artists, fashion designer and photographer.
Just as the name implies, the Ghost Army worked under the cloak of night fooling the Germans making use of different tricks without firing a weapon to trick the enemy while saving thousands of lives along the way. HOW?
