great stories. can’t wait for more.

This was one of the pop up suggestions that I wasn’t sure I wanted to start, but it was a well written series that was very fascinating from the beginning.

Quite literally a jaw-dropping, utterly stunning, collection and entirely unexpected!!!

So this review is for this omnibus collection of the first 8 books, not any of the individual who episodes which it entails. I bought this omnibus when it became available because it was co-authored by two writers whose work I greatly enjoy. IN SPITE of cited that fact, and I mean literal, mean-spirited and venomous spite, I had absolutely zero intentions of ever actually reading it. The combination of title and cover art had essentially convinced me that this was not a series I would ever enjoy.

To date, I have never been quite SO wrong in my life. The fact that I’ve neglected both work and personal responsibilities for the past week or so while working my way through this book attests quite nicely to that fact. Now, I’m sure you’re wondering what changed my mind. Well, you see, there is actually an entire sequel series of books which follow this series. Similarly, completely oblivious to the fact that the two series were even connected, I found myself once again turned by the combination of titles and cover art. My reactions in that case were not as strong as with this series, but I knew it was going to be a fairly chilly, if not cold, day in Hell before I read that series either. Nonetheless, once again as a fairly “committed” Anderle fan, I waited until fan-pricing Saturday and bought the books which I had little intention of actually reading. You know…. support your local authors, or some BS like that.

Eventually, the day came when I found myself between release dates on the series I was enjoying, however. Out of everything I was reading, the series had either wound to an end end or new books were not due to be published and I found myself facing almost an entire week with nothing new to read. Scanning my library, I noticed both these series but rejected them in favor of a couple of re-reads instead. Two series covered for the 2nd time only gave me a few days respite, and I quickly found myself once again at an impasse. VERY reluctantly I finally crumbled and forced myself to start that 2nd series. Much to my surprise, and yes I SHOULD. have known better, I was not only HOOKED, I was on the line being DRAGGED to that’s book’s end by one of the best Anderle collaborations I’ve encountered since the introduction of Leirha Behrens. No joke. I was flat out flummoxed and astounded at the error of my ways. And that was while I was reading it. When I hit the end of that first book and found out that this was the SECOND series, I was ecstatic. At least I was until I realized what the first series was, and that was when the magnitude of my mistake came clear. I’d been missing out on something incredible for YEARS. To say I was I mad at myself would an understatement of colossal proportions.

Do yourself a favor… if you see the name Anderle, just read the damn book. Apparently, you won’t regret it. LMAO. Trust me folks. You WILL enjoy!

Began as 3 stars and ended with 4 stars over the course of 8 books.

Really felt the authors' experience in the military come into play in the earlier books and found the routine of the SWAT members and their verbiage very entertaining to read, but was left a little disappointed with the cartoonish-like attitudes and dialogue of the villains, and even dragons, at the start. It almost felt like 2 different books when the real and fantasy parts of the novels clashed. But as the series progressed, I felt the authors really start to flesh out the world the characters live in, and the different opinions, and dialogues that could be opened up about the consequences of a world with dragons in power.

Wish there were other words that authors could use besides 'pumped' when describing the flapping of dragon wings though XD it didn't bother me much, but I couldn't help but think of all the other words / phrases that could be used everytime I came across 'Kristen pumped her wings harder' in the book, such as 'Kristen beat her wings,' 'wings snapped down,' 'wings stroked the air,' even more uses of 'glided.' Perhaps I'm nitpicking.

I'm also very interested in the world the authors have created, and love that with each book, the authors strive to get a different aspect or angle of the world, moving on from I would definitely like to see more of that as the series continues.

That's all that I can rattle out of my brain at 2 AM in the morning after finishing this ombnibus. Hope to read more of this series :)

Also can't wait to see what Amy and Kristen get up to together, and excited to see more of Constance in the future, and human team SWAT!

prepare yourself for an emotional rollercoaster!

There were moments I’d be laughing my ass off and then 5 min later be crying together with the characters. That’s THE hallmark of a good book, if it can pull you in that you feel along with the characters, no matter how, that’s when you know it’s great because you are completely invested.
I have to admit, I hadn’t originally thought this would be the case for me.

I had originally started with the dragon claw sword books, but after the first 2 chapters I got the feeling I was missing some background here, the author kept pointing too much to certain specific events in the past that clearly had meaning without explaining in detail, which usually means there is more. So I contacted Kevin McLaughlin and he kindly told me that I should first start with this then the dragon’s daughter series and then eventually the dragon claw sword series. Or skip this if I was only interested in the background of Galen, the main character of the dragon claw series.

At first the idea of SWAT and dragons and magic sounded weird to me, clearly I’ve never been into Urban fantasy. Usually it’s either in a future, the past or not earth. The fact that it was present day AND everything stayed the same except for magic is real made it really weird to me and I almost stopped reading.
I’m glad I didn’t. Both book 4 and 8 I read out in one afternoon. They were so good I couldn’t put it down.

Very much looking to the rest and eventually get back to the books that started all this for me.

Hard as steel

A fascinating story right from the beginning. The characters are wonderfully complex and evolving as is the main characters ability to pursue freedom and peace for everyone while gaining friendship and respect. I love her sense of purpose and unwavering believe to do what is right. The authors being able to bring this story, this she series to life and I became so immersed that I forgot time and surrounding and have been brought back to reality when my Kindle did shut down and I had to charge it again. A fantastic series well written and a must read for anyone in search of adventures and dragons.

Hard to put down.
Each book presents unique challenges that the main character Kristen Hall has to face, and each book requires her to grow and develop in some way. The main character was utterly believable, almost to a fault - she makes rash decisions, speaks without thinking and gets herself into a mess time and again. I got frustrated with her often, which is only a sign of just how invested I became in her journey.
These are engaging stories, with fun characters, exciting battle scenes, and the occasional humour. I shed tears more than once.... I've thoroughly enjoyed escaping into a world of magic and dragons, skillfully crafted into modern-day America. Very cool. Looking forward to the next series.

Action-packed and Magical!

An amazing mix of action, magic, cop-drama and relatable human emotions. Well written and full of humour, with characters you want to root for and others you want to punch in the face (or snout!). I thoroughly enjoyed the first 8 and can't wait to keep going.

Fantastic story!

First of all, thank you, Kevin and Michael, for creating the wonderful characters, both dragon and human! I am of an older age than most of your readers probably are, but I still like reading about adventures like the ones Kristen gets in to! I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series! On to book 9!

This series just continues to get better. Love the authors' writing style.

The book is great scifi/paranormal entertainment for all ages above 12+.
It has some cursing, no sex, and dragons.
It should entertain for a few hours, and they have other books that have the same world.

Boring

I started these at an earlier time, so when I started it again I realized the reason why I didn't read it the first place. The main character was boring and obnoxious. The reason was she was just wasn't a great character. I do love urban fantasy just not these.

High flying magical adventures

I loved this series it focuses on inter species relationships and building trust and understanding. Kristen is a magnificent person/dragon who wants peace and equality for all involved and is not scared of self sacrifice to achieve it.

Par for the course, addicting

If you like urban fantasy, dragons, mages, and kick ass heroines. This series is for you. The Dwarfs are pretty cool, too.
What I like best about these authors is there ability to create characters that you can invest in!

Interesting setup, worth a try. In the end I was disturbed by the concept of institutionalized slavery so I guess there was a bit of emotional impact to this part of the plot.

Loved it

I like these books. Always love a good against evil. Just wish there wasn't so much profanity. Would have given it a 5 if not for that.

Nope.
Too juvenile to make much sense out of Unfortunately. The premise sounds tempting, but the authors went haywire with both major plot errors (couldn't seem to agree whether the star was tested before or after graduation from Police Academy) & stuff that just wasn't believable (the Captain reminiscing about getting promoted for SETTING EVIDENCE ON FIRE) before there was even a chance of learning anything about the "dragons".
