Fun story, more action and adventure than mystery. The character development was good for protagonist however, side characters were not fully developed. The setting was an appropriate backdrop for the story. Overall, I recommend this book if you’re interested in a thriller, action story.

Agency Protocol Seven

4.25 out of 5 stars

This is one of those books that I started listening to without reading anything about it. I don't think the description would really throw you off the scent of the storyline too much - but it was also fun going into a mystery/thriller like this without knowing basically anything.

I knew that Brian Callanan was narrating it, and he absolutely nailed both Whitefish and the character of Brad Kelso. I love it when you can feel the narrator becoming the main character in a story. And Callanan really took Kelso to another level with this first book.

The story itself was exciting and really kept my attention. I can't go into too much for fear of spoiling the story but the setting of this one really set it off for me. I love Alaska and I think the combination of remote with the style of writing really took Whitefish to another level.

Overall, a really enjoyable book featuring a great main character that I definitely want to read more from. Myers did a great job creating enough mystery and intrigue that I was trying to guess throughout (and I wasn't able to figure it out til near the end). A nice combination of thriller and mystery with a few other genres thrown in for good measure.

I don’t read a lot of mystery novels, but that may soon change after devouring Russell Myers’ newest offering, Whitefish. The story chronicles the life of former government PFT (Pathfinder and Tracker) Brad Kelso, lured from retirement for one final mission—the man who killed Kelso’s best friend twelve years ago has been spotted in Kodiak, Alaska. I won’t reveal any more plot details, but Myers does a masterful job of creating likable characters, painting a vivid landscape, and keeping the reader on edge. Oh, and one more thing…I’m relatively sure this won’t be Brad Kelso’s ‘final mission’ after all!

Loved this book! Without giving spoilers… it’s an excellent mystery set in remote Alaska. If you want a captivating storyline, action, humor, and even subtle hints at romance (something that I hope will be explored further in future books in the series), this is a book for you!

It was a perfect “airplane read” because once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. An excellent way to spend my flight. Plus, there was a major plot twist at the end.

I also learned a lot about Kodiak Alaska through this book, it was well-researched while keeping me captivated. Can’t wait to read a sequel ASAP!

Wanting him hunt down an elusive criminal. Is the killer of his friend and this criminal be the same person. Brad wants revenge on this individual and he will follow him even to the wilderness of Alaska. Using his skills as a Pathfinder Tracker.

An entertaining story with excellent narration. Brad Kelso, builder, ex-agent is sent to Alaska to track down the killer of his old friend. The story is well written with well described locations, an entertaining plot and an ending I didn't see coming. Well worth reading and listening too. Narration by Brian Callanan is excellent. Highly recommended. I received a complimentary copy of the audio and an leaving a honest voluntary review.

Superb Realistic Thriller! Whitefish is filled with suspense, humor and romance that temps the reader to push on and learn more. Couldn’t put the book down! Read cover to cover on first read. Russell opens your imagination to characters, places and events. His descriptive writing style encapsulates the reader, putting him/her in the moment. I do hope Brad Kelso accepts his next mission!

I'm not always one for a detective like novel but Whitefish is definitely a exception. The story and characters where very enjoyable and the author waits no time in taking you into the plot and keeping it going. each page is fast paced and filled with great dialogue and settings. I found myself finishing it almost in one sitting unable to put it down. Will definitely be reading the sequel next!

Love it! Great idea for a hero!

I really enjoyed this book. It feels like you are picking up in the middle of a series and the characters seem very real. The mystery had a bit of a twist, which I always enjoy! Looking forward to the next book!

( Format : Audiobook )
"A snuggle of sloths, a sloth of bears."
Twelve years after the murder of his friend, Brad Keller was building a fence for his neighbour when a message arrived from the Agency. His skill as a Pathfinder Tracker was needed - to find his friend's killer believed to be in Alaska. But times have changed since he last worked for the Agency ten years ago and the help he re!did upon was simply not going to happen.

Whitefish is a cleverly constructed story, interesting and, at times, unexpected, with a very human main protagonist telling the story from his first person perspective, bringing an immediacy to the action. Brian Callahan captures this in his excellent narration, becoming Brad Keller as he pretends to be a photographer in his attempts to find his .an. A good performance with excellent pacing, modulation and character voices.

I received a freely gifted complimentary copy of Whitefish, at my request, from the rights holder, via Free Audiobook Codes. Thank you. It was a very enjoyable thriller, and one I can highly recommend.

Enjoyed this story based in Alaska that brings a semi-retired "tracker" back to work. I liked the Kodiak Island descriptions and the interplay between main characters.
