From the moment of my birth, I became Zeus's number one Most Wanted. I'm so screwed.
I'm not a bad person. In fact, I'm training to be a nurse so I can help and heal people. Not that Zeus would care about any of that if he even knew. No, all he cares about is his law- no humans are allowed to use magic. The punishment for breaking this is death- a fate I've been able to avoid by living my life in meticulous secrecy.
Until the night my magic activates on its own, releasing a gorgeous demigod from the town's statue.
I have no choice but to run, taking Nikandros with me. After days filled with terror of being caught and killed, Nik convinces me to fight for my freedom. My magic may be strong, but going up against Zeus himself? Impossible. Run or fight, it doesn't seem to matter anymore.
Thanks to this magic I've been cursed with, I will soon meet my end.

The first book in the Blessed With A Curse series. This is a new Author to me. Paige Lindsey is living among the humans and trying to stay of Zeus's radar as he killed her Mother. Nikandros a demigod who was locked in her town's fountain and Paige has just released him. Their story has suspense, drama, danger, a villains, Gods and Godesses, finding out about secrets, and romance. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a new to me author. I decided to try this ARC that I received via Booksprout because I enjoy reading stories based on Greek mythology. This book centers around Paige Lindsey who wields magic but has been hiding it for all her life because Zeus had outlawed magic and ultimately she lost her family because of that.
On her 24th birthday, following a town tradition resulted in her world turning upside down. Follow Paige and Nikandros in their fight for freedom from Zeus' decree. Will she win? Or will Zeus be the God of Gods and be undefeated?
This was a riveting read and I can't wait for the next book!
A statue, a prophecy and the gods of old, a human girl desperate to keep her Magic hidden, is a great way to start a book! Magic use is a big no no on Earth, Zeus has forbidden all use of magic by human, to the point of death. Paige keeps her magic tightly wound up inside her, fearing for her life if anyone discovers she has magic. The town statue of a gorgeous hunk of a man, is one Paige is afraid to touch but on her birthday, she does just that, by mistake but the statue comes to life. What follows is comical, Nikrandos, trapped in stone for centuries, is hysterical in trying to understand modern life. He behaves like a lovestruck teen, completely throwing Paige for a loop! Fearing for her life, Paige thinks she has no alternative but to run away. She and Nik do just, although this leads them to other gods, who want her demise. It really gets interesting from here, the decision Nik forces upon Paige, her horror and disbelief that his scheme could work, even though her magic is soaring now that she's no longer constraining it. I enjoyed seeing the various gods make their appearance, they're well described and very fickle! Loved the magical brings popping in, especially Pegasi! The battle scenes are thrilling and at times, just when I thought all hope is gone for our unwilling heroine, a new development! Enjoyed the fun this book evoked.
Blessed With A Curse( Blessed with a curse #1) by Katie Cherry I received this book through StoryOrigin and I am voluntarily reviewing. In this book humans using magic has been banned by Zeus punishable by death. On her 24th birthday Paige's magic activates on its own, releasing a demigod from the town's statue. Forced to run, taking Nikandros with her, after days of terror of the possibility of getting caught, Nik convinces Paige to fight for her freedom. Will she meet her end or will she win the battle? I really enjoyed this book and recommend. This book is available on Amazon
I love how in “Blessed With A Curse” by Katie Cherry we first get to meet our heroine Paige when she is in college studying to become a nurse. Feeling overwhelmed she decides to use just a little bit of her power to revive herself just enough to get her through her exam. But little does she know a young man sees her using her power afraid that she’s about to be turned into the Gods for being a magic user she texts her roommates who immediately comes to her rescue. Well everything for Paige should go back to normal after that but they don’t. It’s her 24th birthday and her roommates want to take her down to the local fountain so she can touch his hand to see if she is the female who is distant to free him from the statue that he has been trapped in. But little does her roommates know Paige is a magic user and she has been having dreams about touching this statue and it unlocking her full powers putting her life in even more danger. So reluctantly, Paige goes with her roommates to the fountain with a plan she will just pretend to touch the fountain while they take pictures, but all of that fails when she slips and accidentally touches the statue. Panic she usher her roommates away from the statue, saying that she forgot to lock up her place of employment and wait to see if anything happens to the statue and low and behold, she releases the man curse for centuries to reside in the statue. Paige knows that everything that she has worked so hard for has just went down the drain she must pack up and run because Zeus will be coming after her now. With no other choice she goes on the run with Nikandros who turns out to be a demigod and the son of Ares, the God of War. But with Paige and Nikandros be able to outrun Zeus? I guess that you will have to read “Blessed With A Curse” to find out what happens. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Paige is well your typical nursing student hiding a very big secret .She is magical and is hiding from Zeus . She is trying to live a normal life trying to become a nurse . She doesn't want to get on Zeus's radar because if he finds out about her magic she is dead . Everything is going along great until the night of her birthday and an ill advised trip to the town statue . She is now on the run with the man from the statue trying to not start a war with Zeus . With a lot of encouragement from the man who tells her that they are mated and its now time to take back what is theirs and destroy Zeus . Will she be able to get in touch with the magic and take down the god that wants her dead. This is such a fun book to read , the characters are well written and you will love them . Paige is a young woman that is just trying to live her life . She is hiding a big secret that none of her friends know about . She is feisty and fun to be around but when she really comes into her own is when she finally lets her magic come in . Then she is fierce and non stoppable taking no prisoners . Nick is well he is just hot and sexy . He is a demigod who has been in stone for hundreds of years . When we first meet him after Paige breaks the curse he comes off as just a little naive but man he really starts to shine when he is protecting Paige and getting ready to go to battle . We get to see some really strong characters kicking some butt. This is a book that you can sit down and read in an evening . The author takes us on such an adventure ride . The characters are very well written and I loved how they grew up through out the book . I really like how she wrote Greek mythology into the story it really kept me on the edge of my seat . i did feel at the beginning of the book there were spots that kind of were drug out a bit . Over all i really enjoyed the book and can't wait to see and read other books from this author
This fantasy romance is quick, enjoyable read that folds Greek mythology into a contemporary fantasy setting.
Paige Lindsey is a nursing student who just wants to help people. She is also a secret, illegal magic user—illegal not because of human laws, but because magic was banned by Zeus, and the punishment is death. In this setting, the Greek gods are still worshiped, though they have left the world long ago and rarely take direct action … except against magic users who are reported and caught. Paige lost her family this way, so she is careful to practice her skills in secret and not reveal her ability to anyone. But when a silly 24th-birthday ritual leads to her awakening a statue of a hot demigod, Nikandros, who thinks she’s his destined true love, she has to get out of town. Her choices: spend the rest of her life running and hiding; or confront Zeus and defeat him.
There is a lot to like here. Paige doesn’t immediately buy the soul-mates trope, but allows Nik to help her (and helps him just as much) as they get to know and like each other. It was fun to see the Greek pantheon as characters outside their own myths. And I will always cheer for the downtrodden little guy who stands up to an authoritarian ruler for the right to be who they are or die trying. I was a little sorry that I never got to see Paige try something new and fail the first time. Because the story begins when Paige has been practicing her magic for years, she is already strong and skilled. Everything she tries just works, even things she hasn’t done before. But she is pretty creative in how she uses her magic, and some of the helpers she gains are adorable.
If you like mythology-based fantasy with clean romance, give this one a try.
This is fun quick read. I like the concept of a demigod trapped for millennia and a case of fated mates freeing him. I also really enjoyed the female MC. Paige made for a fun and engaging lead character. The fact magic is outlawed added a great element to the build up of the story and how things develop.
However, there are many things that needed to be developed better for this to become a visceral read, emotional roller coaster ride and unforgettable adventure. I was particularly disappointed by Nik. He could have been an awesome character. If the author had focused on the true culture shock experiences of a character from a patriarchal era and the social conundrums he’d faced in our time, as well as allowing him to overcome those differences in worldview, the development of the relationship between Nik and Paige could have been amazing. Unfortunately, it fell flat for me.
Another thing that needed fleshing out was the dilemma of the immortal being tied to a mortal. Then the plot twist would have been brilliant and a fabulous way of really tying everything together, but because this was treated like a non-issue in the book, it didn’t seem relevant that it got resolved in unexpected ways.
Lastly, I found the outcomes of this book are predictable. I’ve read enough books of this type that I never once doubted any of the main characters could achieve what they were aiming for. Seeding very real doubt, viscerally, would have made this book unputdownable and utterly compelling. It’s fast-paced with very good high stakes. With but a few tweaks, it could be utterly brilliant.
Paige is a young woman who has been hiding her magic her entire life. The Gods are real and Zues has outlawed magic. If anyone is found practicing magic, they will be killed - just like Paige's mother. When her friends get her to touch the town statue, her magic flares to life against her will and releases Nikandros from the curse put upon him. Now she must run away and hide if she wants to survive. But how can you hide from the Gods? Paige is just an average girl even if she has magic. She's in nursing school and wants to help people. She's not a hero and she doesn't want to be. She's relatable. She has her flaws, and she knows what they are. She also doesn't just believe right away that because she release Nik from the statue that she is his prophesized love. She gains her courage as the story goes on and realizes she is stronger than she thought. Nik has been embedded in stone for centuries and has no idea what life in the modern world is like. I can see why Paige was so hesitant to be around him at first with how clingy he seemed to be. It was slightly off-putting so I am glad he figured it out quickly. This was a shorter book and very fast paced. Things were definitely moving at a fast pace and you were not left wondering anything for long! It didn't take me too long to get through this book at all. There was high stakes action and a magical battle and enough tension to make you wonder what would actually happen. If you are in the mood for something quick and easy read with Greek Mythology, this is your book!
Blessed With A Curse started well with a quirky urban fantasy lead and a humorous opening. It is certainly a quick, easy and lightly entertaining read that may appeal to those interested in clean urban fantasy romances. In a world where the Gods have banned magic, Paige has to keep her talents hidden in order to stay alive. Only this plan falls apart when she touches a statue, releases a Demi-God and finds her true love in the process. That's certainly one way to bring yourself to the attention of the Gods and Paige finds herself thrust into a conflict she could never have anticipated. It's kind of a more mature Percy Jackson but with romance, maybe?
But whilst the beginning drew me in, it quickly became apparent that this wasn't really my cup of tea. I'm a fan of quirky urban fantasies, but I'm not such a big fan of romance being a main focus and I'm really not a fan of insta-love, which this more or less fits into. Not quite maybe, but really not far off. I'm also not a huge fan of insta-powers, preferring my hero/heroine to really have to work for their gifts or at least have a darn good background story for why they come ready prepared as great at everything. This had a bit of the latter; Paige is a genuinely strong mage for decent reasons... but didn't really work for me when she acquires martial skills to boot despite being absolutely awful at physical fighting to begin with.
That said, if you are looking for a quick, clean and entertaining read where one girl takes on the Gods and finds her true love, this may well be right up your street. It is well written, fast-paced and funny. It's just not my preferred style of fantasy.
Taking on the gods? Being encased in stone must have done a number on Nikandros’ head. That’s all Paige can figure. When Paige’s magic releases the demigod from Are’s punishment (also known as Nikandros’ dad) Paige’s and Nikandros’ worlds change. They find themselves on the gods’ radar, Paige for using her magic in a world that has been banned from doing so by Zeus on pain of death and Nikandros for escaping Are’s prison and still not following in his father’s footsteps. That’s only one of the good parts of Nikandros, the reasons we quickly like him. He bears no resemblance to his father in the desire to destroy life, to have his hands seeped in blood. However, he does possess a fighting spirit, but it’s one determined to protect Paige at all costs. Even if it means giving everything of himself to this one he has come to love, even the one thing of himself that gives him that godlike spark. Because incredibly with all the time Nikandros has spent before the gods, it pales in comparison to what he sees in Paige and she amazes him more every second he spends with her. She never wanted a showdown with the gods and the thought scares her to death. She thought she had managed well enough with hiding her magic until she met Nikandros. Yet Paige transforms before us to one willing to embrace her magic fully and believe with Nikandros it’s strong enough to battle the gods, even Zeus himself and win. Together Paige and Nikandros will forge a bond, one that aims to be strong enough to bring even the gods to their knees. At least, they decide it’s worth the battle. The outcome is simple: Together win the future they want or breath their last in the attempt.
Paige Lindsey’s mom was killed because she used magic which is against Zeus’ law for a human. Paige has magic within her as well and has been hiding it from Zeus for her 24 years. She is in training to become a nurse and not out to cause any trouble.
On the night of Paige’s birthday, she joined her friends at the town statue where they want her to tempt the legend that says touching the statue will uncover your true love. She’s afraid it might actually activate her magic which would put her life at risk. As Nicole is taking her picture with the statue, she tells her to hold his hand. She pretended, but when she started to walk away, she slipped on the wet stones and her hand actually did touch his wrist. The statue grew warm but she jumped away from him immediately. Nothing seems to have changed, so maybe it will be okay. And then she notices a crack at the wrist…
Paige now has to run away with Nikandros, the man from the statue, her mate. Will they escape Zeus’ wrath? Nik is a demi-god and would be no match for Zeus. And Paige is not sure if her magic would be strong enough either. Will they survive? Will Nik convince her that it’s finally time to stand and fight for herself?
After Paige lost her mom all she wanted was to live a normal life but she is hiding a secret from her friends and as much as she wishes she could tell someone, she can't without putting her life in mortal danger. They live in world where magic is outlawed by the gods and being a magic user is a death sentence. So when her friends decide to test the long local myth about the statue in middle of town she can't refuse except for touching him, that she tries to cleverly trick her friends into thinking she did for their celebratory picture but she doesn't count on tripping and accidentally grabbing hold of the statue. Now she plans on just walking away and pretending nothing happened, until it does. Now Nik is a demigod freed from his stone cage ages after being cursed and believes Paige is his true mate. Now they must try to out run Zesus and his followers who hunt magic users while working on getting Nik up to date on the times, navigating emotions and find a way between Nik's demigod powers and Paige's magic to defeat Zesus and his cohorts. The characters are relatable and likable. This was a fun story to read and I definitely recommend it! I had a hard time putting this book down to get some sleep after becoming wrapped up in the main characters plight!
This was such a fun and exciting book. Paige and Nik and very likable characters. They are different yet end up being quite similar. I love how Nik helps Paige with her confidence. Because she believes in his belief in her she gains her confidence and can do what needs to be done.
Nik is a demigod who has been trapped in a statue for a very long time. He is under a curse. When a certain female touches the statue, the stone will crack, and Nik will be united with his true love. Paige’s friends drag her out to the statue at midnight on her birthday for the traditional touch of the stone. Paige has magical powers but must keep them hidden because the god Zues banned all magic from earth. Paige has a bad feeling that because of her magical powers she will be the one to break the curse. When she touches the stone, she feels something but none of her friends notice. It starts raining so everyone runs except for Paige. She stays and of course the stone starts to crack.
This story is written in alternating chapters by Paige and Nik from their point of view. I don’t see that done very often and I really enjoyed it here. The story flowed very well. It was entertaining, lots of action and suspense. I am very much looking forward to the next book.
Something I love about Katie's books is that they begin with action, and the action never stops. Her latest story is no exception.
In a fun take on Greek mythology, Paige Lindsey is in hiding and on the run since she can wield magic, and Zeus has absolutely forbidden magic since he and the gods left the world. Make that even more fun by adding a town statue with a handsome man and a rumor that a young woman will one day bring him to life and you have a love story waiting to happen.
Fighting against the gods can take on many forms, and what Paige learns goes beyond physical alterations as she must look inside herself and trust what others have always seen in her. And maybe with the help of some friends, she can be exactly what the world needs. Katie says her books are meant to draw us into the story, finding ourselves in the pages. This story left me wondering if maybe we all have more magic than we know.
I received a free ARC from the author and have reviewed it willingly. It also made me realize my overwhelming need to befriend a jackalope. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good magical adventure.
This was my first book that I've read by this author. I decided to try this ARC that I received via Booksprout because I enjoy reading romance stories based on Greek gods. This story is about Paige whose mother was hunted and killed by Zeus because of her powers. Paige knows she'll be hunted if her powers are known so Paige hides in the human world and is going though nursing school. On her 24th birthday, Paige with her friends go to touch the famous statue that's known to awaken if it's your true love. Accidently touching the statue as she trips her magic powers activates the statue to awaken. Nikandros awakens pleased to meet his true love, but he finds out that Paige and the world he awoken in in fraught in danger and they decide to start running. Will Zeus and his followers catch and kill them? With the chemistry and romance between them, the action and the storyline this ARC kept me turning the pages in this engaging story that I volunteer to read and review.
What It's About: This YA fantasy romance tells the story of Paige, a young woman trying to hide her forbidden magic. When she meets Nikandros, an ancient Greek demigod, she'll have to face the gods themselves. What I Thought: This is a light, pleasant, humorous fantasy read. The worldbuilding is light, but interesting--I definitely would not have minded if it was longer and went more into the magic system. I rarely like romance, and I'll admit this one didn't win me over (I always feel bad because, well, it takes a lot for me to see the appeal in a male love interest, and that's hardly the writer's fault!) Who I'd Recommend It To: This would be perfect for fans of Percy Jackson, especially those that are growing past the MG genre and lookign for slightly more grown-up stories, especially those with a hint of romance.
This book completely surprised me—in the best way possible. I originally picked it up just to complete a reading challenge, but I ended up falling in love with it. The story felt fresh and fascinating, pulling me in from the very beginning. The world Katie Cherry has created is rich and full of potential, and I truly hope she continues expanding it in future books.
The romance was sweet and heartfelt, perfectly balanced with plenty of action that kept my attention the entire time. The main female character was both relatable and inspiring—her journey from being afraid of her own abilities to courageously fighting for everything and everyone she loves was so satisfying to watch unfold.
Curse with a Gift was an unexpected gem, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into this universe.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Paige lives in a world where Zeus has outlawed magic use. Not even Paige's roommate-friends know she's a magic users. When she accidentally completes a legendary ritual on her birthday, her life changes and she goes on a journey to face the Gods! I like Paige and Nik. Paige seems pretty typical, roommates, friends etc. Nik takes her by surprised and the developments are cute. I LIKE that it's addressed that they don't know each other well but are quickly dependent. Granted, I know that the Zeus thing is far-fetched but this book too it too far too fast. A longer story development would have helped me buy in more. That said, it's a good book for young high-schoolers and fans of stories about Greek Gods, filled with fast-paced adventure and some romance.
Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. If I could rate this story with 100 stars, I would. Action packed and magical, the story starts with Paige, whose magical talent is kept hidden, as the law Zeus enacted wants magic destroyed. But on her birthday Paige and her friends act out the tradition of touching the stone statue which is said to wake at the feel of true love. Nonsense you might say, but be prepared for a magical journey when the stone starts to break. Fast paced with heartfelt emotions running high as the magic is released and the fight to return magic to the people develops
Oh this was a fantastic story. This was jammed packed with magic and the Gods. It was a wind whirl of action and drama. I loved how strong Paige is. She kind and caring but also really underestimates herself at times. We see her growing throughout the story. Nik is fantastic as well. He is strong but is extremely kind and loving. He protective and supportive. The story is extremely well written and developed. It had me glued to and unable to put it down. It doesn’t end in a cliffhanger and that ending was superb. This was most definitely a must read and doesn’t disappoint.
This was an interesting story with everything that was mixed into it. Ever since her mother was killed by Zeus for using magic, Paige has done her best to hide the fact she too can use magic. This is her story of what happened when her magic was triggered by touching a statute and bringing a demigod to life, who just happens to be Ares’ son. The mixture of humans having magic and Greek gods and goddesses and demigods all in the current time I found to be very intriguing. It was uplifting to watch Paige grow into the woman she was always meant to be.
Magic is outlawed, and Paige has to keep hers secret so the Greek Gods, especially Zeus, don’t come kill her in retribution. Hiding changes when she accidentally freed Nikandros, a demigod, from his stone prison and together they work to overthrow the gods. Everything in this book moves quickly, which I guess it should at being under 200 pages. I wasn’t a fan of how quickly the relationship between Paige and Nik progressed, but I get that Cherry had points she wanted to make and plot that had to happen. LOVED the Greek Gods. I don’t think we see enough of them in books!
This is incredible! A fantasy read told with a Greek mythological inspiration with a fantastic, no nonsense, kick ass heroine and an adventure that has you hooked and enjoying every minute of it. The author weaves their spell to give us an exciting and thrilling journey that has you laughing out loud in places and mourning in others and some incredible world building that sucks you right in as though you are right beside these incredible characters, experiencing what they experience. It’s a fantastic read with incredible scenes and I cannot wait to read more!
Brand new series from the wonderful mind of Katie Cherry, this one is off to a great start! Paige is a magic user under attack - she has it but isn't allowed to use it.... meh! Sucks to be a magical in this time right?! Nik, the statue that is now a man (again!!).... a man in serious love!
Not my usual type of read but this was a refreshing change from the norm for me. Exciting start to this new series, I'm looking forward to reading what comes next.
This book was a quick and entertaining read. However some aspects could have been handled better. Such as Nick being encased in stone for centuries (not really a spoiler) and seemingly having minimal mental and physical trauma from that. The main characters aren't quite as interesting, plus their romance doesn't seem to build up as smoothly built as Katie's other couples. The pacing is otherwise well handled, and the story pleasantly killed a couple hours of my time.
I don't know what I expected when I picked up this book to read...but it's so different from the author's previous books that I was pleasantly surprised. I love her books, but her writing has grown and matured and this book is evidence of that. The story is pretty straightforward--it's magical, it's a love story, it's a story of revenge...and so much more! Join Paige and Nikandros as they defy the Gods themselves to put the world on a new path. Can they do it? Read and find out!
What a great story - I loved the mythological and magical aspects! Paige and Nikandros were both great characters and I really enjoyed reading from both of their points of view. I thought the development of them as characters, as well as their relationship with each other, was really well written. And I also found the world-building and storyline very entertaining. I definitely hope to read more in this series.
A very clean YA Romantic fantasy with gods, magic, humor and fun! I was surprised by how fun this read was. Seeing Nik discover the world was quite the ride, and his lovestruck actions around Paige were simply adorable. I enjoyed Paige and how she tries desperately to keep her magic under wraps and hidden since it's outlawed by Zeus. The mythical creatures and battles are excellent. This is really a wonderful YA epic romantic fantasy.
