This life wasn’t the one she dreamed of, but happily ever afters don’t always come when and how we expect.
At twenty-nine, Jeanette Williams has watched each one of her four sisters marry and start families of their own. It’s hard not to believe God has forgotten the desires of her heart, especially when most people refer to her as Spinster Williams. Without the beautiful children she teaches, life would be unbearably lonely.
When the handsome widower, Theo Wallace, and his six children move into the Shenandoah Valley, every available woman is atwitter—except for Jeanette. She has no such aspirations that someone as plain as her could draw even a smattering of interest.
As life throws this unlikely couple together, Jeanette can’t help but fall in love with Theo’s children and their soul-wrenching plight. Before she knows it, her heart is far more invested than she could’ve ever imagined. And not just with the children, but with their handsome father as well. Is she headed for another heartbreak, or is it possible God had a beautiful plan in the works all along?

Jeanette’s Gift is the last book of the Five Book Series, The Shenandoah Brides. Twenty-nine year Jeanette Williams just knows God has forgotten about her when it comes to romance. All of her sisters and beautiful and happily married, and she is the plain one that no man wants. Not being married, she was hired as the school teacher, and she loved her students. This is all her life would be, and she has accepted this as her calling in life. But is it?
I love, love, love this story. Blossom Turner gives her readers another amazing book to read. I have to say I connected with Jeanette more than I have connected with any character in a very long while. She kind of reminds me of myself growing into my teenage years because I have always felt like the plain one. Still do sometimes.
I appreciate so much Blossom writing this story. As I followed Jeanette and her insecurities about her self worth, I appreciate the advice from her dad, her friend, and even Theo. And speaking of Theo, he is such a good guy. I love his sweet children, and felt so bad for them. Jeanette was truly a blessing in their lives. Blossom does such a fabulous job creating these wonderful characters, they were so realistic I felt we were old friends sitting around talking, just as friends do. I learned a lot from reading this book, especially about my insecurities, and knowing there is help, all I need to do is ask. Just as Jeanette was able to overcome her insecurities about her self worth, any of us can do the same. If this is something you deal with, start by reading “Jeanette’s Gift.” You will find this book is full of information that will help you! Not only that, you get to see first hand in Jeanette’s character how God changed her life.
Now I know this book is fiction, but the valuable lessons about self worth you read throughout the book, the scripture, the lessons and the talks about our God are the absolute truth. I highly recommend this beautiful book. I’m giving Jeanette’s Gift Five Stars and I really wish I could give it many more.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
This is one magnificent superb story that will resonate with women as they read Jeanette’s Gift. She was the youngest of 5 sisters and had built a wall around herself due to crude remarks being said throughout her life and feeling plain instead of beautiful like her sisters. However, Jeanette poured her life into teaching and felt led by God to lend a hand to a new family with six children who were motherless. Theo was not in agreement of assistance but he was struggling with saving his farm, caring for the children and suffering great pain from his past.
Blossom Turner penned a tender and heart touching story bringing a message of hope, renewed faith, discovering one’s inner worth, how actions and words of others are detrimental and so much more by the last word. I didn’t want the story to end. This was my favorite story in the Shenandoah Brides series as many women struggle with exactly what Jeanette’s characteristics were at the beginning but in time she discovered her strength, worth, and her inner beauty shined on the outside with being loved.. I would highly recommend fans of Christian historical fiction read the entire series to see the beauty of the Williams family that evolved throughout their lifetime.
I received a complimentary advance e-copy of this book from the author and publisher without any obligation to write a review. I have expressed my own sincere opinion.
Jeanette’s Gift is book five in the Shenandoah Bride series that is written by Blossom Turner. I have read the entire series, and would recommend that you do the same. Jeanette Williams has watched each one of her four sisters marry and start families of their own. She does not feel that she is beautiful like her sisters. She is 29 years old and wonders if her time has gone. She is a school teacher in a small community.
Enter Theo Wallace. He is widowed and has had some bad experience with women in his past. Jeanette feels led to care for his 6 children and she starts to deeply care for them. He has a hard time trusting anyone let alone God. Seeing his character grow throughout the story was a wonderful thing.
The book is well written - the characters are well developed. The author writes a great lesson in compassion in others and trusting in God.
This is my favorite book in the series. I have enjoyed it so much. I cannot wait to see what the author does next. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
This fifth book in the Shenandoah Brides historical fiction series features Jeanette—the sister for whom life and love seems to have passed by. Considering herself plain and homely, this 29-year-old “spinster” suffers dreadfully from low self-esteem, and can’t possibly imagine her own happily-ever-after as a married woman. Jeanette’s passion is for teaching her beloved schoolchildren, and when a handsome widower moves to town with his six darling children, she longs to step in and help the family. What she doesn’t expect is to fall in love when there’s no way it could be reciprocated… Another soul-stirring novel by Blossom Turner! (I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author without any obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts are my own.)
Another beautiful story from Blossom Turner. Turner always paces romance with story, never letting one get ahead of the other. Jeanette's struggle to believe in herself resonates with every woman who wonders if she is enough. As for romance--nobody does it better. I highly recommend this book.
I was swept into this story from the very first chapter and had trouble putting the book down. Jeanette’s Gift told the story of one young woman’s journey to break free from the walls of low self-esteem she had built for herself and to realize her value through God’s eyes. The town’s school teacher, Jeanette had inwardly compared herself to Hans Christian Andersen’s Ugly Duckling and failed to see her worth as a young woman. Like that book, it was heartening to read of Jeanette’s slow but steady transformation into a beautiful “swan” through her faith and her generosity in befriending Theo Wallace and his children. For those who have ever dealt with issues of low self-esteem or know someone who has, this is a must-read book that will inspire and encourage. I had not read any of the previous books in the Shenandoah Brides series, but believe this can be read as a standalone. This is the first book I have read by Blossom Turner and I look forward to reading more from this author. If you enjoy reading Christian historical romance, definitely pick up this inspiring book!
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher via Celebrate Lit Bloggers and Reviewers. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions expressed here are completely my own.
For all of us who don’t see ourselves the way God sees us, this book is for you. I love the main characterJeanette who is very humble, giving, and willing to help others. She loves being a teacher yet yearns for her own family some day. She thinks she will be a spinster forever since she is now twenty-nine. What she doesn’t see is how much she is loved and admired by many. Her heart is big when it comes to helping others. If only she could see herself the way God does, she would realize she is beautiful not only in looks but because she is giving and puts others before herself. Will she ever stop being negative about herself? How many of you suffer from self worth ? I have dealt with it my entire life. My parents always told me I was stupid, ugly and would never amount to anything. Many years later I can still hear their words but God is helping me see that He loves me unconditionally.
Theo is a welcome addition to the story with his six children. He is having a hard time trying to do everything on his own. After suffering several loses, he finds himself alone and over his head raising his children and farming. What a surprise it was to see Jeanette in his home one day where she had cleaned and cooked a nice supper for all. Her heart is in the right place but Theo’s pride is making an entrance. I loved how Jeanette stands up to Theo and is able to convince him that she is there to help. It is okay to accept charity when you need to, but Theo is still having a hard time admitting that he needs help. Pride will get you every time. Have you ever needed help but your pride got in the way?
The story illustrates how hard it is at times for us to trust God. Theo has been hurt and now is afraid to open his heart up to another woman. He knows that Jeanette believes God sent her to help him and the children but he seems to have a problem with trusting God. Jeanette has this idea that she is not worthy of marriage but God will open her eyes and heart as she discovers her worth.
The ending is very nice and quite a surprise. I loved how people in the community come to Jeanette’s defense as vicious rumors start out of jealousy. Through everything Theo and Jeanette face, will they find happiness? Will they surrender their hearts to God and allow Him to give them confidence? The answers to these questions await you in this beautiful story of redemption and forgiveness.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Blossom Turner has fast become a favorite author of mine. Jeanette's Gift is the fifth book, in the Shenandoah Brides series. I have read the first 4 books in the series and have been excitedly awaiting the release of this book!
Jeanette Williams is 29yrs old and hasn't found a good life suitor. She loves being a teacher and without her "children' she feels she would be extremely lonely. Jeanette has prayed for many years that God will send a suitor to her. Theo Wallace, a recent widower, who has Six Children, moves to Shenandoah Valley, The Women of Shenandoah Valley begin to swoon over Theo Wallace, except Jeanette. Jeanette feels she has been heartbroken before and doesn't want another one. Jeanette and Theo begin spending more and more time together due to life happenings. Jeanette really enjoys the children and she really gets to know about their life plight. Jeanette also begins to have feelings for their father, Theo. Will Jeanette put up a wall and not fall deeper for Theo? Will Theo and Jeanette have a relationship?
WOW, I am once again blown away by this series. I started reading and could not put the book down. I finished the book in 3hrs. Jeanette and Theo's story is one of trusting God's timing in our lives. Jeanette had prayed for many years for God to find a suitor for her. Just as she had given up, along comes Theo. Theo has been through a lot recently and is having trouble trusting God. I LOVE how life changes for the better for both Jeanette and Theo when they open their hearts to God and trust him for their future. I really LOVE how Blossom Turner really appropriately picks great titles for her books. Jeanette's Gift is soo well-titled because she finally receives the gift she has prayed about for so long. I HIGHLY recommend this book to those who enjoy Christian Romance. WONDERFUL BOOK!
“Hmm.” Oh my goodness. When Theo would say this, it was so aggravating. But when Jeanette started saying it, it would crack me up.
Theo. Oh, his history. It was so emotional. I won’t say anything, but he had a tough past with his in-laws. Not just with his in-laws but also with his late wife, which I won’t say anymore of.
Jeanette. I felt for the girl. A spinster at 29 couldn’t have been an easy thing, especially when the whole town kept looking down at her. But it didn’t bother her, or at least that’s what she said. But what I like about this story is that Jeanette was beautiful on the inside, which is the best kind of beauty.
I didn’t like that the characters wanted more than just a kiss. Although it was never expressed out loud, the character is wanting the kiss to lead somewhere else. Thankfully, it never happens because the other person always stops the kiss abruptly for things to go anywhere, even though we know that that character feels the same way.
This was a good novel though. It portrayed a positive message of knowing our own self worth. That we are beautifully made, and that we are all unique. Also, it shows that our future doesn’t have to be the way our past was. Yes, our past still exists, but it doesn’t determine our future.
I requested and received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
Rating: Language/Profanity: None Sex/Nudity: Passionate kisses. The kisses are described a bit, but it’s more the feelings that the characters are feeling. Implied sex scene. No details, just kissing that leads to it. Violence/Gore: None Drinking/Drugs/Smoking: Drunk woman
A big satisfied sigh just left my lips as I read the last page of Jeanette’s Gift. I’ve read all the sister’s stories but this one resonated with me more than any of the others. Jeanette has always had low self esteem and has always thought of herself as the ugly duckling. All four of her sisters are beautiful, poised, and married. Jeanette is twenty nine and calls herself a spinster. She loves her job as a school teacher but she loves all the children even more. She tries to instill in them that they are all special in God’s eyes and each one is a uniquely created being, “fearfully and wonderfully” made. Why can’t she believe this of herself? Theo is a struggling farmer with six children. He is trying to make a new life for himself and his family but he thinks God has abandoned him or maybe it’s the other way around? He has some hard lessons from his past that keeps cycling through his brain and causing pain and distress. When his financial situation is dire and he’s about to lose his farm with a large amount of debt he’s acquired hanging over his head he’s at a loss as to what to do. How will he ever provide for his family? A great lesson was found in this story. I have had times in my life where I was down on myself and thinking I was not good enough, not pretty enough, not lovable. Jeanette needs to look on herself as God does, with love and affection. Theo has some hard lessons to learn as well. Will these two ever let God guide their way and lead them into His plan for their lives? I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise. All opinions are strictly my own.
Jeanette’s Gift is book five in a wonderful historical fiction series called The Shenandoah Brides. You’re going to want to read them all!
I felt for Jeanette. She’s sweet and gentle and has a heart for children. I share that heart for children with her. She’s the youngest of five sisters. They weren’t exactly the nicest to her and she struggles with self-worth and self-esteem.
Jeanette gives what she’s doing her all. So when she begins to help a family with six young children who don’t have a mother she gives it her all. The father however isn’t all keen on it but he comes around. She’s basically an old maid while all of her sisters have married. She’s given up having a family of her own but what if love should happen to find her?
I loved this novel. It’s a great and strong Christian novel with God front and center. Add in that it’s historical fiction and I was hooked. I really didn’t want this book to end. I fell in love with the characters. Jeanette is such a wonderful person and I really felt like she was my best friend. I didn’t want her story to end.
The entire series is wonderful. I’ve read the entire series so I can say that! Grab the whole thing and read it through. And then do it again. The books are also suitable for teen girls if you have some like I do that enjoy reading historical fiction.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
Jeanette’s Gift, by Blossom Turner is book five of her Shenandoah Bride Series. I’ve read the previous four—Katherine’s Arrangement, Amelia’s Heartsong, Lucinda’s Defender, and Gracie’s Surrender. Five sisters, five stories. But I think Jeanette’s Gift is my favorite. Maybe it’s because, like Jeanette, I felt like the ugly duckling in my family growing up.
Historical romance is probably the favorite genre among women, but Jeanette’s Gift is more than a love story between her and Theo (the man of her dreams). It’s a reminder that God has created every one of us uniquely—each with our own special gifts—and beauty is so much more than what we see when we look in the mirror.
My mom used to tell me, “Beauty is only skin deep.” According to dictionary.com, this quote means, “Physical beauty is superficial and is not as important as a person’s intellectual, emotional, and spiritual qualities.” Jeanette learns that her beauty shines brightest when she uses her God-given gifts to bless others without regard to what she might or might not receive in return.
Ms. Turner does a wonderful job of bringing this character, and that of her love interest, to life. I’ve felt for the sensitive and caring Jeanette throughout this series as she’s had to watch her sisters fall in love and marry while she steps further and further into the background. There are so many spiritual lessons we can all learn from Jeanette’s story—as with all the other books in this series.
Five out of five stars. If you love historical romance—or romance of any kind—you won’t be disappointed reading this one.
Jeanette's Gift by author Blossom Turner is Book 5 in the Christian historical Shenandoah Brides series. Even though it is Book 5, it may easily be read as a stand alone. It was by far my favorite book in the series, and I have loved them all.
This is the story of Jeanette. She is a schoolteacher with a heart meant to help and love children. She is the youngest of five sisters and has always felt less pretty and desirable than her four sisters. It is also the story of Theo. He is a widower with six children. He has moved back to the small community and does not want help from anyone.
Author Turner has written a stunning novel that had me captivated in the lives of her characters. I love books written in the late 1800s and this one is no exception. The dialog sounded authentic. Descriptions swept me away to that time in the Shenandoah Valley, and I was mesmerized by the brilliant writing. Immediately after starting the book, I became invested in the story and characters.
This page-turning novel was filled with heartfelt moments and inspirational messages. It would make a lovely movie. Jeanette was the children’s teacher and only wanted to help them, but Theo had been through some rough things and had trouble trusting.
I love the life and spiritual messages sprinkled throughout the book. The romance was lovely, and the children delightful. I highly recommend this book. It gets a 5 star rating from me. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest words.
Jeanette is a young woman who has no confidence in herself. She lives life on the sidelines only hoping she could look and be like her married sisters. She does not see the beauty in herself or the kindness she offers others or her heart for service. This is her story.
Jeanette is twenty-nine and thought she would be married and have her own children. That has so far not worked out, so she does the next best thing. She teaches school and she has a heart for children. There is a certain family she feels especially drawn too, the Wallace family. They are a family of six children and their widower father and just moved in.
Jeanette sees their need and decides to spend her free time helping them. Theo Wallace, the father, does not want her help, after his late first wife he is very leery of women. But somehow though, unlike any other woman, Jeanette burrows into his heart. He also does not feel deserving of her, so both settle as friends, fighting their attraction all the way.
I always enjoy author Turner's stories and this courtship between Jeanette and Theo and the others that step in and complicate things, was a courtship of realizing your value and worth. And that you can be loved for who God created you to be. Their story was romantic with a bit of drama, and I enjoyed it very much. I look forward to more stories from author Turner's pen.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Jeanette's Gift is book 5 in a series. I have not read the first four, but I didn't feel like there was anything I missed, except for one reference about a redeemed sister that wasn't explained. Jeanette has grown up in the shadows of her beautiful sisters, and as a spinster at twenty-nine, she feels plain and unwanted. I think many women will relate to Jeanette's feelings. She has a heart for children, and she pours into the lives of those around, especially the children she teaches at the school. When a new family arrives with six kids and no mother, she feels led God leading her to help them by cleaning and cooking at their home.
This was almost a perfect novel to me. Jeanette's longing for a family and her feelings of being overlooked in favor of her more beautiful sisters resonate. The support of family and friends is done well as is the cattiness of some of the women in town. The only thing I felt was missing was why she was falling in love. The physical attraction was obvious, and what he sees in her is very well described. I would have liked a few more scenes of her seeing his inner beauty as well as the outer. The dialog is well done, and the emotion is tangible.
I enjoyed this enough that I intend to read the others in the series.
Highly recommend.
Completely family friendly.
Thanks to the author for a copy of the book. Opinions are mine.
This is such a beautiful story of one woman's journey into seeing her value as a person and as a woman. Jeanette has 4 sisters, and they are all beautiful. At least that's what everyone has always said. People have always said she is the plain one and she's been bullied her whole life about it. She is s spinster at 29 years old and the town schoolteacher, but she loves the children. She longs for a husband and family of her own but believes that won't happen for her. My heart ached for her as I saw what a wonderful young woman she was with so much to give. She had such low self esteem even though her family and many in her town saw the beautiful person within. Theo and his 6 children move to town after a disastrous marriage gone wrong and does he ever need help! Jeanette feels called from God to help Theo with the children. Of course, Theo doesn't want to accept the charity, but Jeanette won't let him disagree! I loved how she stood up to Theo! She was an advocate for his children. That began a beautiful friendship with Theo, and I enjoyed that part of the story. Both of them needed to see the value in trusting each other. A lovely story of an "ugly duckling" turning into a swan and a man learning to trust a woman!
Jeanette lives in the shadows of her stunningly beautiful sisters, and she doesn't feel like she measures up. She's the "ugly ducking" that just never made it into a swan. At the ripe, old age of twenty-nine, she's past all hope of a husband. Thus, "Spinster Williams" being ordinary in her own eyes, and loving kids means that her future seems to be putting herself into children. The kids adore her, and she's so good with them. When Theo winds up in her life, he's trying to take care of his six children who don't have a mom now. Is this God's plan? Is there a hope and a future for her that's beyond what she expected?
I LOVED this story! It echos deep inside of me with issues of self-esteem and other things that I have battled. I think most women can relate to these issues. Most of all, I didn't want this story to end. While it's book five in this series, it stands alone easily. Hope, faith, love and God's view of us are all woven into this beautiful story. I wish it could have more than five stars. I'm currently thinking that this is my favorite book in this series.
Thanks to Celebrate Lit for my digital copy of this book. This review is all mine and as such, talks about what I think about this book. A positive review is never required.
I initially enjoyed this book very much. The protagonist followed Jesus, choosing to do what He says in His Word at a cost. I LOVE and search for stories like this. The characters are well-drawn and believable, and a value is placed on inward beauty over outward appearances. For these reasons, I would have given the book five stars. However, because the story progressed into two areas of difficulty, one regarding writing, the other regarding conscience, I can't. The first is minor: a character's issue with self-worth is framed anachronistically as "negativity, " a term not commonly used for berating oneself until Eckhart Tolle's widely read The Power of Now came out in the late 20th century (the story is set in the 1800s). Besides this, the internal rehearsal of the subject became so repetitive that I began to flip through the pages. The matter of conscience didn't unfold until the last quarter of the story, and some readers may not object to it at all. The author began focusing on uncomfortably intimate components of the main characters' relationship, culminating in conducting the reader into the couple's bedroom on their wedding night. How much intimacy she portrayed, I cannot say. I began flipping past these pages when I grasped where it was heading.
Jeanette’s Gift, by Blossom Turner is book five in the Shenandoah Brides series. This series tales place in the Shenandoah Valley in the lake 1800’s. Jeanette is the youngest of five sisters. At 29 she is the local teacher, still living at home and doesn’t expect to marry. When the Wallace children start attending the school and she realizes they need help, she follows God’s whispers and spends her time helping the young motherless children.
This is a well written, easy to read story that is easy to get lost in. It was fun to catch up with some of the characters from earlier stories, but it also is a nice stand alone story. I enjoyed the theme of helping others that is so strong in this story. This story points out how hurtful lies, rumors and greed can be. It’s fun to see the character of Jeanette grow from a person who blends into the background to a beautiful lady when her sister helps her with her wardrobe and hair. It’s also fun to read of the style of clothing, especially swimming clothing, that was worn during this time.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.
What I think you should know: Jeanette’s Gift by Blossom Turner is a Christian Historical Fiction. This is the fifth book in the Shenandoah Brides series. This book starts in 1881 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. While this book can be read as a standalone it does give some spoilers for the previous book and you understand more of her family dynamic and self esteem if you have read the previous books.
What I think about this book: This was such a wonderful book! I have been so excited to get Jeanette 's story. She has been such a stable force in her sisters' books that I longed for her happily ever after. It was very interesting to see the sister who considered herself homely when surrounded by four sisters with above average beauty. I loved seeing her grow in her confidence and began to shine in others' eyes. After all that she had been though it was hard to see her ignore God’s voice in her life and watch the repercussions of it. Jeannette’s story was the perfect ending to this captivating series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
The plot in this historical romance unfolds a bit differently than most do. Jeanette Williams, a twenty-nine-year-old unmarried teacher loves children and longs for some of her own and for a man to love her. But she believes she is so plain no one could ever care. Her gossipy community doesn’t help. The engaging story offers a series of twists and struggles and makes one wonder if things will ever work out. We also witness the growth of the main characters in faith and self-confidence as they seek a second chance. Filled with an abundance of conflict, some portions seem repetitious and could be tightened a bit. This novel is edgier than I feel comfortable reading, although true to life. It seemed to put too much emphasis on physical appearance and contained some physical affection that could be kept off the page. I would recommend it only to married women. The author said she wants to encourage others to follow Christ, but some of the content could lead to temptation. I would rather see purity in thought and action modeled on the page. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
Jeanette’s Gift continues the Christian historical romance series set in the Shenandoah Valley. Having read the previous books in the series, I eagerly anticipated reading Jeanette’s story. Jeanette, a 29-year-old spinster loves children. But being unmarried, she has only the students she teaches to fill that hole in her life.
Enter a handsome widower Theo and his six children, and life as Jeanette knows it is about to change. With typical catty, jealous women in the background, Jeanette’s family and especially her father, set out to help Jeanette realize what a gift she is and what she has to offer.
As Theo’s story comes to light, I loved getting to know him and his children. While I refuse to spoil the ending of this book for anyone, I will say you need to read to the very last page to find out all that happens.
So if you enjoy works of Christian historical fiction that include a heavy dose of God, faith, and family, check out this book for yourself. I definitely recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
This was such a great read, I hated for it to end! I have read all five in this series, I loved them all! What great life lessons we are gifted with this book! This is the sister that has always felt inferior, that she wasn't pretty, and you are about to see her bloom! Jeanette is a teacher and loving it, she adores children and figures she will never have any of her own, and takes a special interest in some motherless students. These six children will warm your heart, and we find out some facts about their parentage, but Jeanette comes into their lives. This is a sweet romance story, Jeanette and Theo's, but oh so much more, and it quickly becomes a page turner. We meet some jealous individuals who put up roadblocks, and of course, greed does raise its ugly head, but we find so much joy being with the children! I wish there were more sisters and more books, you are in for a treat when you pick this one up! I received this book through the Author, and was not required to give a positive review.
Loved this book!! This is my favorite book of the whole series! Jeanette is sure she's never going to get married, she's accepted the fact (kind of), and is ready to move on. She knows she's not as beautiful as her sisters; in fact, she knows she's not attractive at all. Then, she meets Theo and his six children. She decides to help out as much as Theo will let her. Meanwhile, Solomon moves to start working for Colby, and Theo pushes them together. Theo is sure that he's never going to marry again, not after what his first wife put him through, and not after learning that at least a few of the six children he loves are not his. He can't trust another woman, he can't even trust God. When Jeanette starts replacing others opinions of her with God's opinion of her, she starts to see that she is beautiful, inside and out. Will Theo be able to trust God, and in turn, Jeanette, and be able to have a real family??
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
Jeanette's Gift is set in 1881, Shenandoah Valley. Jeanette is a schoolteacher in a small community and teaching is her life. Feeling plain and destined to be a spinster, she doesn't realize the beautiful person she is inside and out. The ugly words spewed by others have hindered her growth to become the person God meant for her to be. Prompted by God, she is led to take care of a widower's six children whom she soon grows very fond of. Theo Wallace, the widower, balks at the idea, his past has soured him on women.
The storyline is full of lots of Christian compassion, hope, love and is one of the most beautiful budding relationship stories I've read to date. I admired the main character's beliefs and strength in trusting God in all things.
You better keep the tissues handy. I laughed, cried, and rejoiced with the characters. Highly recommended. I received an ARC from the publisher and voluntarily choose to review it.
What a captivating conclusion to the Shenandoah Brides series! I have enjoyed getting to know the endearing Williams sisters—Katherine, Amelia, Lucinda, Gracie, and Jeanette through this wonderful series set in the late 1800s. Jeanette’s story is my favorite of the five books. Jeanette struggles with low self-esteem. Theo, even with his trust issues, is a perfect match for her. His six children are delightful. I love Helen with her insightful wisdom and advice. Rich characterization, a fast-paced and emotionally charged plot, a strong faith thread, and tender romance are skillfully woven together to fashion a heartwarming story that brings smiles and tears. This book touched my heart and soul, and I highly recommend it especially for fans of inspirational historical romance. Note: Each book in the series works well as a standalone. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have enjoyed the previous books from the Shenandoah Brides series and was excited to have the opportunity to read fifth installment, Jeanette's Gift. This one is most definitely my favorite of the series. I loved being transported back in time to the Shenandoah Valley and meeting Theo and Jeanette. I thought it was a beautiful, delightful and a wonderful story. I loved every single page and wanted to see how it would end for the duo.
I am giving Jeanette's Gift a very well deserved five plus stars. Readers who enjoy reading sweet and clean historical romance will want to pick this one and the other books from the Shenandoah Brides series. I hope to read more by Blossom Turner.
I received a paperback copy of Jeanette's Gift from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
This was a really well-written and thought out book. Jeanette doesn't see herself the way God sees her....she has heard too many remarks from people to see herself in a good light. She does somewhat feel forgotten by God after watching her sisters marry and begin their lives.
I really liked Theo. He's had a rough time of it and doesn't trust. That is understandable, but watching his character grow and change was really great. I liked the bond Jeanette grows with the kids and how caring she is. It wasn't a fast paced story or anything that would keep you pulled in because of action...it keeps you reading just because of heart.
4/5
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
A sweet romantic read that left me happier and uplifted.
This book is a grown-up, historical adaptation of The Ugly Duckling; the author made that explicit by bringing up the story--and then added a good dose of faith.
I loved how the author did not resort to crazed machinations to build in conflict. The story felt very real and I really liked both the hero and heroine and wanted to hold each and every one of his six children.
I highly recommend this book if you want to go to sleep happy--mind you, you have to finish the book because there is some heartbreak.
I received this book as part of the Celebrate Lit blog tour, but was not required to leave a positive review. The above opinions are my own.
I have really enjoyed this series by Blossom Turner and I’m glad we finally get to read Jeanette’s story. I have always felt a connection with this character and her feeling that she isn’t as pretty as those around her. I loved how God and Theo helped her to see that beauty is more than a pretty face, that true beauty comes from with in. I liked how they helped her to change her perspective. I love how loving Jeanette is and how the children adore her. I loved seeing how the Lord’s timing worked for this character. I really enjoyed this book and this series and would recommend them.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
