As one of the biggest players in the Yakuza, I do my duty and rule my syndicate with a hard but fair fist. I follow my own rules and adhere to my own sense of duty.
Until Mei.
When my mentor sends his daughter to live with me and instructs me to put her on the correct path, I try to use a strong hand to guide her. But that hand tends to gravitate to her rear end, especially when Mei runs her smart mouth. She’s young, fiery, and looking for love.
Though I follow strict rules and enforce them in my life, Mei bucks them with ease. She’s a little rebel, one I never want to break. In fact, I fall for her just the way she is. She’s the one I never saw coming, and the one I can’t live without.
When an enemy sees an opening and tries to use her against me, I’ll burn his lineage to the ground and salt the earth behind me. For Mei. For our future. For our family.
MINK's Grab a fuzzy friend and a cuppa caffeine for this story of her beast, his rebel, and their happy ending.
This was so cute! One of Mink's better ones for newer releases. The heroine was one that did NOT hesitate to throw down for her man 💅🔥🔥.
Mink changed up the setting for this book, and the hero, Kazuo, this time is a Japanese American and member of the Yakuza. Our feisty heroine is Mei, the daughter of a Yakuza boss (and Kazuo's mentor). Mei was sent by her father to Kazuo's place, so he can guard over her and "discipline" her 👀. Mei's father is at a loss for what to do with her, as he wants an obedient daughter who will eventually be married off in an arranged marriage. Mei has other ideas and frequently escapes and sneaks off. They're instantly attracted to each other, and Mei will try all sorts of tricks to get Kazuo to keep "disciplining" her 👁👄👁.
Mei, the heroine: I liked her a lot! Girl was very direct and not afraid to speak her mind 🤣. Unlike a lot of romance heroines who "feel the magnetic pull" but shy away when the hero leans in close for an almost kiss to intimidate, Mei just went for it and called his bluff and kissed him! I cackled like a maniac when Mei revealed that she snuck on board the exploding ship and almost died because she thought the hero was sneaking off to a party with strippers and she was gonna catch him in the act and throw hands at any hoes touching her man 🤣🤣😂. She even started beating down some catty woman during a fancy dinner party when that woman acted like she slept with the hero, yelling about whether they fucked. This was pretty much Mei in a nutshell, dealing with any potential love rivals: I also thought it was hilarious that this heroine shamelessly brought an entire suitcase of romance erotica with her to Kazuo's home and proceeded to decorate her room with them and prominently display them. Queen does not care what people will think when they see all the shirtless covers 💅.
Kazuo, the hero: Sexy, evil yakuza that has a soft spot for Mei. He was soooo jealous and possessive of her, it was delicious. Any time any man interacted with Mei, Kazuo would be like: Dude even got jealous over Mei baking cookies for his underlings. He was dirty talking and OTT crazed and I loved him. You might think that Mei sounds too aggressive and jealous over him, but Kazuo was no slouch in that department either. These two matched each other so perfectly with their jealousy and possessiveness 🥰.
I was a bit sad that the kitty didn't play as big a part in this book compared to other books by Mink. We need more cat tax.
As an aside, the hero definitely needed better sound proofing in his house, because everyone and their kid brother were constantly hearing what he said or did. Mei overheard him jerking off to her, his friend heard him fingering Mei, his underlings overheard him talking about Mei and tease him about it... I was like, "give this poor dude at least some semblance of privacy 🤣!"
Safety: * Heroine is a virgin, never been kissed or in relationship. * Hero is actually implied to be a virgin. * No OM drama, despite hero being ridiculously jealous over everyone. * No real OW drama, heroine beats up OW that acts like she slept with hero, only for hero to reveal he never even met that woman before. * No cheating. * No condoms or protection. * HEA with epilogue and babies, heroine pregnant again.
This was another awesome read from mink! She does steamy safe mafia romances like no other. and this time, it’s a romance with a yakuza boss in America and the daughter of a Tokyo yakuza boss.
When Kazuo’s mentor sends his daughter Mei to him, to watch her, kazuo wants to do more than just watch. He wants to touch and claim and keep her all to himself. He doesn’t want to betray one of the most powerful yakuza bosses in Japan, but what he feels for Mei can’t be controlled or stopped.
Her father sent her to him. And he’s keeping her.
Totally safe. Double virgins. No others, no cheating or abuse. On page violence between hero and his enemies. Baby making. HEA with epilogue
"Rebel Tempts the Beast" is the story of Mei and Kazuo.
The hero is a mobster, whose life changes when his boss's vivacious daughter is sent into his keeping.. with a kitty in arms. There attraction, sex, and a sweet HEA.
Plot: Kaz is in the middle of serious Yakuza business when his mafia mentor's daughter, Mei, shows up. Seems she's a bit of a handful and her dad needs Kaz to watch her for him, maybe even reform her a little. The truth is, Mei is only wild to get attention and to break out of the mold her father insists on. Kaz knows he should stay away; she's his boss's daughter. But he can't help it, and when Mei gets into trouble time and time again, he knows that she needs someone to watch over her. Not just anyone - him.
Commentary: This one was really good, and the different setting (yakuza as opposed to Russian or Italian mob) was interesting. Mei was feisty and sometimes dumb as heck; she was also young and sheltered and a little lost. Kaz didn't baby her but he also made allowances for her need to grow in a way that her father never did. His panic at her being in danger felt real and he managed to find the perfect blend between protecting her and letting her fly.
DNF @ 40%. Too sweet and just out there for me. The H was a mafia guy but wasn’t alpha at all to me. The h had more aggression then the H. Nope not for me lol.
Mei and Kazuo's story is a sweet, double virgin (if I'm not mistaken...) insta-love story!
When Mei's father has finally had enough of her rebellious ways, he sends her to one of his prized pupils to try and bring her to heel. But there's war in America right as Kazuo's doorstep and his mentor's timing of sending Mei couldn't have come at a worst time. Kuzuo doesn't need to be distracted and that's what little Mei is...a beautiful distraction. But Kazuo isn't going to let Mei get away from him. When he agrees to help Mei's father he agrees with the intent to keep Mei for himself. Now he's just got to protect her from his enemies knocking on his door as well as find a way to let Mei's father, his mentor, know that Mei is his for the keeping.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**
I love Mink! Generally they are one of my most favorite authors. I read their books as soon as their released in a quick setting and I'm nearly always left happy....
This book did not do it for me. The FMC was so immature, to the point I felt like I was reading about a 15 yo. I can get down with almost every trope, kink, and genre and enjoy it.... but I found it so hard to believe that she could be an adult and still be that immature, not even just naive, but actually an idiot.
I didn't even want to finish the book because she annoyed me so much, but I had hope she might become less annoying through the book. I'll still get the next book MINK released, but this one just wasn't for me!
✔ Japanese Mafia ✔ Mentor's Daughter/ Mob Boss ✔ Age Gap ✔ Insta-love ✔ Grumpy MMC ✔ Virgin FMC/ Celibate MMC ✔ Violence ✔ Dual POV - First Person ✔ HEA with Epilogue
I love that we get a new family with this story. We also get that typical mink possessive alpha with a super sassy heroine who knows her mind and keeps him on her toes. I loved the banter between these two and I adore the way he was basically a total teddy bear for her right away. The instalove is another Mink standard and I loved the way it was handled here.
My only complaint was the boat thing. I wasn’t really a fan of our heroine putting herself in that much danger without any real description if that makes sense. They can have a scary moment without it being that huge. But it’s just a personal preference for me.
It’s a short steamy before bed read destined to get you in the feels and possibly in the mood. I give it four stars, just under four chili peppers, and a definite recommend for a quick before bed read or palette cleanser. Enjoy!
Safety squad : h is a virgin (Don't know if He was virgin or not, although it was implied) No om drama No real ow drama No cheating/ sharing No condoms HEA
Dynamic little story with a dark hero, a rebellious heroine, and full of so much heat to blaze through bedrooms and traditions.
Surprisingly, it's set within the ranks of the Yakuza families in American soil. Expect lots of betrayal, action scenes, revenge, and over-the-top security around the damsel in distress who always jumps head on into danger.
She sasses her way into every fight and cross-fire situation because she may be sweet and soft, but she knows how to earn attention. It's actually very fun, the hero doles out naughty and protective in equal measures, and the plot has a very endearing ending with family warmth and domestic bliss. Loved that. There's a cat, yeah, but it doesn't come up enough. I missed that part :-D
Rebel Tempts the Beast is the story of Kazuo and Mei.
Tropes: Insta love Age gap Asian representation Hot feisty badass innocent heroine Protective jealous and overprotective alpha hero HEA and good epilogue
Her father sends her to Kazuo who is her fathers former student that he trained and is now a mafia boss or something. Kazuo is surprised by her sudden entrance but is more enchanted by her beauty and her ability not to stay in one place and give a fuck. There’s a war with the other bosses I’m guessing. He tries to protect her and things get heated and he claims her. She always runs away even when he locks the door and puts a guard in front of her door. Like when some rebels were trying to kill her father she showed up with cookies and Kazuo killed Ito and Rai meanwhile being mad at her personal guard for letting her out. All ends well with then getting married and her father becoming more interested in her life now that she’s a mother and married to his former student. Loved Sakura’s energy and how her father is playful with her as well.
Rebellious but sweet + powerful and grumpy = love!
I totally loved this story. It was entertaining and enjoyable even with some violence from being Yakuza lite. The characters were interesting and likable. Hideo was sneaky and smart all while acting like he was the one that needed help. Toru was a good friend to Kazuo (Kaz) as well as his second. There was a little drama and angst but it resolved well. This story had a little bit of everything with laughs, steam, and some sweet romance. Mei was amazing with her independence and rebelliousness. Kazuo wasn’t prepared for her and was definitely knocked for a loop. They were a fun couple. It was super cute that Mei wanted Kaz’s men to like her so she made them cookies. Cookies were actually quite important in the story. I loved their happily ever after. I recommend reading this book.
4.5 Stars I thought that this was a very hot yet funny book. Mei was really sweet and funny young lady that was just wanted to be loved and accepted. Kazuo has never been tempted by a female until Mei appeared in front of him. These two are instantly drawn towards each other but lack of communications and assumptions cause some bumps in the road for these two. I really enjoyed the intense connection and chemistry between these two. The scene when Mei is done with disrespect then thrown at her and Kaz was my favorite! I can't wait to see what Mink as in store for us next! I would recommend this book and Mink as a great author.
I received a free e-book copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
What a fantastic story! I was left with my heart so full, and my mind blissfully blown. That is what I call perfection! You can't get any better then a Mink book. Her stories are flawless, fun, and fierce.
Mei is one of my favorite women written by Mink. She is so sure of herself even in the midst of her naivety. She made me giggle throughout this story at her stubbornness and ferocity. She refused to settle, and I loved her for that. She is my hero! :)
Mink turned my day upside down with this precious work of heart. She never fails to delight and shine a light on a dark day. She is the hero of my heart and imagination!
I loved this being a Yakuza story instead of the Mafia! It doesn't happen a lot and there were also other little touches of Japanese culture that gave the story more depth. Kazuo is in the middle of workplace spat with another Yakuza family. He doesn't have time for women, he has his people to protect and revenge to be had. That changes when his mentor's daughter Mei shows up on his doorstep. She is not the dutiful daughter, she can pick locks and escape from just about anywhere. This was just adorable without being sticky sweet. Mei is feisty and brave, vulnerable and completely loveable. Kaz is protective of his people, determined and happily head over heels for Mei. Such fun, 6 stars!
I don’t know.. I normally love all things MINK but this book just didn’t do it for me. Mei is an over the top, boy crazy, rebel who can escape anywhere but is also the naive virgin. While Kazuo is the bigger than life Yakuza boss who goes all mushy inside the minute he sees her. Normally that’s just up my alley but this time around it just didn’t check any boxes for me. I mean don’t get me wrong the spice was still great but other than that the story wasn’t there for me. It felt like I was reading a K-Drama and while that’s nice it’s just not my thing. Even the over the top insta-love was a little too “insta” for me. Overall 2 stars ⭐️ ⭐️
I commend the author for trying to write non-white characters, but it fell short for me. I totally get that we suspend any sort of reality with these types of stories, but to me, it felt forced and not at all authentic. Also, the dirty talk is also the H calling the h a whore. Personally, that doesn’t appeal to me. Typically a fan of Mink, but this one wasn’t for me.
I usually like Mink's books and this is not my first review for this author. The character personality followed the same recipe as normal which was good. Two things bothered me about this story. 2, no physical description other than hair color and handsome or beautiful. 1, whore is not now nor will it ever be a term of endearment. Makes no sense. I hope this does not become a trend.
I absolutely adore this book. From the beginning to the end I had a smile while I read it. Kazuo and Mei are a perfect fit. I even love the secondary characters. Of course not the bad guys. The writing and flow of this book is done well. I absolutely recommend this book.
I liked the fast tempo of this book. It plunged right in without a long boring build up. The rebel, AKA Mei, was a hoot, though I must admit, I thought her punishment too light for such a dangerous and reckless stunt. Nevertheless, it's a fun short read and I enjoyed it anyway.
This was so good, the setting, the plot, the development of the story - all put together in an excellent book. There is danger, blood, fights, but you have romance and spatks, and unexpected tenderness. And above all - all the right values of a relationship and family. I hope there will be another book around this "realm".
Omg, the best culture shock romance book I’ve read this year. The Japanese/ American culture was illustrated so well. I pictured Mei as a K pop star, she was super funny, honest, but ready to fight for her family.. I pictured Kazuo like a mafioso, deadly run way model. Their chemistry was off the charts
