The Candy Capers
Fred Jones, owner of world-famous Contessa Chocolates, has been murdered while relaxing in his Barca-lounger. Stepdaughter Candace McCready is devastated by the death of the stepfather she adored. Delightful, funny, sexy, who-dun-it.
The protagonist, Candace, was a likable crazy and funny woman. The chemistry between her and Gabe was hot, and the author took full advantage of that. Her mother, Wendy, was a bit scatterbrained, but was a hoot as Candace’s partner in trying to solve who killed her ex-husband and Candace’s step-father. The rest of the characters all made sense and rounded out the ensemble for the story. The plot was intriguing and the author’s style of writing was funny, quirky, and sexy. She definitely knew how to keep the reader engaged page after page. I look forward to reading more by this author.

What a delightful romantic comedy/ murder mystery! Gabe and Candace reunite years after their teenage fling, when Gabe’s father (and Candace’s stepfather), owner of Contessa Chocolates, is murdered. In his will, he left Contessa to Gabe, who doesn’t want the business as he’s very happy with his own saltwater taffy business. Gabe’s father leaves the secret Contessa Chocolates recipe to Candace, which forces the two former lovers team up to find out who killed Gabe’s father and where the secret recipe is. Among the suspects are a plethora of ex-wives and stepsiblings. One of my favorite elements in this story was Candace’s relationship with her quirky mother. And I love who turned out to be the murderer. I was rooting for Gabe and Candace from the get-go. A sparkling debut! I look forward to reading more from this talented author.

What more could you want?
Why have I never heard of Katy Berritt before? She is a wonderful writer. I thoroughly enjoyed The Candy Capers. Candy and Gabe are trying to find out who killed Gabe's father Fred and the missing recipe . Who knew murder or rather trying to solve a murder could be so entertaining? I laughed, I felt sorrow for Gabe. Meanwhile, there are Fred's five ex-wife to contend with, Susan which is Gabe's mom and Wendy, Candy's mom. There are all kinds of suspects, hijinks, humor, and yes even romance going on in this book.
